Review Summary

Generated using AI from real user reviews

"Mass migration of all on-site code to a few hundred Git Repositories hosted in BitBucket"
What do you like best about Git?

The local caching of remote repositories on a developer's machine Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Git?

Differences are recorded on a repository level, not folder level, meaning you have to try to keep repo size small. Also git doesnt work well with binaries, and our many hundred of components each use a different version of build tools which means we now have to do a huge exercise to update build tools for components that have no need to be changed. "Version Control to the square power"

"A whole new world of source control"
What do you like best about Git?

Diffing, git logs, group work, all this and more is now not only easy but enjoyable. Resolution of merge conflicts is trivial and still meaningful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Git?

My biggest gripe with git is how poorly it manages workspaces like the IPython Notebook. I am hoping Github's incorporation & display of IPython notebooks mitigates some of this in the future. Also it gets complex at times with cherry picking, rebasing, and other more complex moves I'm not thinking of. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Extremely useful and liberating"
What do you like best about Git?

Power, performance. It is a swiss-army knife in the version control world. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Git?

May not work very well in very large projects and lot of binary files. 'Submodule' functionality, as far as I knew, didn't work very well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Source/Version Control"
What do you like best about Git?

Gits version control system is fairly robust. When used in conjunction with Github, it surpasses most VCSs Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Git?

The learning curve is steep when it is used via the command line. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Git is a must have for any modern team (and not just developers!!)"
What do you like best about Git?

Ease of use (even for a novice), integration with most/all IDE's (of course), vendor implementations such as Atlassian Stash. There are bash profiles out there which modify your command line prompt to automatically detect if you are in a repo, and it shows the status of your local repo compared to the remote repo which is awesome! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Git?

There is not much to dislike about git. Perhaps when you are branching/merging things can get complicated easily; but it is up to you to keep your branches simple. No need for 20 branches! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"I am very happy to move to git from SVN"
What do you like best about Git?

The ability to create multiple branches within the same local repo and work on them simulatenously. Switching from one branch to another is really easy.

Because git generates snapshots on versions as opposed to delta of changes on files, it is blazingly fast compared to other legacy version control systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Git?

Integration with review board. It is a little more confusing compared to SVN. Every git-review command generates a new RB. Sometimes, I intend to only update an existing RB and I run git-review which ends up generating a new RB. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A complex but great versioning tool"
What do you like best about Git?

Branches, branches, branches ! Gives more possibility and more dimension to the versioning than a classic tool like SVN Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Git?

So complex that it's hard to handle from the beginning. It needs time and practice to fully understand the concept. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"been using Git for well over 5 years. Best source control management ever."
What do you like best about Git?

It is distributed.

Branching is super easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Git?

Submodule support could be improved. They are no ways to remove them once added. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
