What is DERDACK Enterprise Alert?

DERDACK Enterprise Alert® is enterprise-class alert notification and mobile response software. Unique in the market, it is designed for on-premises and private cloud installation. It increases agility and responsiveness of operations teams in manufacturing, utilities, IT services, transport and logistics. Enterprise Alert fully automates targeted alerting processes and provides for a faster, more reliable and effective response to incidents threatening the continuity of services and operations. This is in particular importance for 24/7 operated mission-critical systems and IT. Enterprise Alert provides automated, and persistent alert notifications by voice, text, push, email and IM. It tracks the delivery of notifications, acknowledgements and replies and reacts automatically on non-delivery or non-reply by utilizing escalation chains, on-call schedules and presence information. Enterprise Alert enables convenient scheduling of on-call duties by drag & drop in any browser. Based on scheduling information it can then alert the right engineers at the right time. Backup engineers and stand-ins are also available. IT service staff or engineers who are alerted often need to communicate with managers, on-call staff of other teams or subject-matter experts. Derdack´s Enterprise Notification Software provides perfect toolset for a real-time, anywhere collaboration experience. Handling critical incidents shouldn’t stop with acknowledging an alert. With our mobile app you can comfortably manage alerts, troubleshoot problems and even resolve them by triggering parameter-based IT automation tasks. The mobile app mobilizes incident management and makes you independent from your monitoring or service desk console. Enterprise Alert has been specifically designed for large and global enterprises and organizations with the highest demands in reliability, productivity, integrations and security. That is why our product is one of the very few, if not the only one, that fully addresses the needs that come with running business-critical operations such as enterprise IT, manufacturing lines, energy & utility creation and distribution.

What do you like best?

It is very easy to connect different sources (IT, technical, fire,...) using different interfaces. For almost all systems we found a way to connect them to Enterprise Alert. I also like the application toolkit we gives us a lot of power to analyze, enriche,..incoming messages before processing it. The application tookit also helps us in some cases to work around some of the limitations Enterprise Alert has for some customer scenario's. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Some of our customers would like to have some more reporting possibilities directly from the webinterface. They also would like to have the possibility to adapt the layout of some screens in the webinterface manually. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are installing Enterprise Alert in different verticals for different type of applications.

We have hospitals where we are using Enterprise Alert to send the fire alerts.

We use Enterprise Alert to send production alerts and notifications for a globalmaterial solution Company.

In a lot of cases our users were missing multiple communication channels (they only had SMS or e-mail), or an easy way to adapt the message flow if somebody was sick or left the Company,... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

• Very reliable and robust system – have been using it for more than 15 years

• A large number of different interfaces for integrating with all kinds of monitoring systems (SCOM, WhatsUp, CheckMH, Nagio.....) and even production tools and machines (Enamiling line, PLCs Process Control software, MES...) / Events from these sources are then forwarded to the responsible people on-call so, they are informed and can act accordingly. If not available there are esclation processes that allow to define backups, making sure nothing gets lost

• The vendor listens to Feature Requests and prioritizes and delivers the same in direct cooperation with the customer, which is very unique Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Each line of business within our org that uses Enterprise Alert have employed the feature set in different ways -- and those business users continue to challenge us in new ways we can utilize the application in our org.

Effective handling of dispatching, escalating, and tracking responses on alert notifications allows better coordination of critical incidents inside and outside of IT. With recent modifications in our environment we are able to utilize additional features provided by Enterprise Alert not previously available, particularly in collaboration.

We truly appreciate the support we receive from the vendor. The team at Derdack has always been very responsive, and handles each of our issues with a sense of urgency. The support team has been able to assist us with challenges that help us meet solutions with our business users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Not dislikes per se, but areas of the application that could be improved: Policy design - especially on complex policies that need to be edited; search capability in more screens; the ability to add groups as owners would simplify callout management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

A business group recently added to Enterprise Alert are now contacted about overtime work opportunities which used to be done manually; this saves that business team on average 2-10 hours each time a callout is required -- that team can now focus on higher priority work. The automation of that callout work has increased the number of callouts made and caught the eye of other teams who also want to use that functionality. The business team is also able to receive results on each callout, an essential requirement for audit and record-keeping.

And some of our IT teams are also experimenting with callouts to individuals and teams on non-critical incidents, and utilizing features inside the mobile app for conferencing and collaboration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

EA allows users to set the way they want to be notified; no more update requests. Also allows centralized OnCall calendar for every OnCall resources and its publication to every interested managers.

Furthermore, we set it in a "service" manner, where we only need to insert the right TAGS in the alert payload (scom or email) to leverage the "service-Policies" to taerget the right user. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

As the Title suggested :

1. the Scripting Host Engine.

In Combination with the numerous Alert Policy Options almost every case (incoming source Event, Data Enrichment, Outgoing Alert Message) can be handled by Derdack without requesting an Expansion of the base Product.

This gives us a lot of Options for now in and in Future.

2. Notification Channels:

Apart from the great App, we can still use classic SMS and even Voice over IP with TTS Engine in our native Language. Derdack development even expanded the acknowledge Options/Menu with the Voice Channel on our Request.

3. Stability & fast Operation.

Derdack can handle a lot of incoming Events & triggered Policies/scripts. Derdack Software is tested a lot before Release causing very few Bugs in the base Product.

4. Support and Contact with Derdack.

Short Communication and handling of Problems/New Features. Developers are "Open" for Improvements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

1. Reporting & trace log Options from the Derdack's Server website.

Only on some pages Search Filters are available. When available Filter Options are limited (for ex. no search after certain Text in an incoming event).

For our Alarm Alerts itself, we can use the linked SQL server where Derdack stores it's data. From their End Users can build their own Reports (with some browsing in the SQL Tables :-) )

Also a Audit Trace Report would be nice : see which user changed what Setting or Option. (ex. alarming ON/OFF in App).

2. Use of Tags and Custom Text Fields could be better for filtering/searching/grouping. I already made a couple of improvement Requests at their Yammer support Site.

For example adding tags (for ex. Team Name Description or Tags) to the Tiles (on Website and on App).

3. No Option to customize App / Website. Like missing custom Texts (ex. Team Description Field).

4. Maybe more Role Detail Options in User Roles. Some Role Rights are not detailed causing OR ALL Rights OR Nothing (not used). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Try it Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Fully Automated Alerting of 15xx Wastewater Treatment Plants & Pumping Installations.

Depending on Alarm Priority & Working/On -Call Plan Alarms are delayed on Derdack and escalated to Operations on the right Moment with a lot of Detail. (in comparison with old manned alarm Calling Center)

Delayed alarms (next Working day hours) are send at the same Time without Delays. (fast Performance in comparison to manned Calling Center) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Derdack Enterprise Alert is a fast and flexible notification system.

The alarms are sent directly and automatically to the responsible persons or groups of people.

In the event of disruptions from all IT areas, the messages can be quickly and without detours reaching specialists in troubleshooting. The system handles the shipping, escalation and tracking of messages.

Derdack Enterprise Alert supports all common media such as e-mail, text messaging, voice, pager and push notifications.

Through parallel connections, several same notification channels, the failure and notification security is increased.

Should the system itself have a malfunction or need new functionalities, the company supports Derdack quickly and easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The software give the possibility to alert on really many different channels and also to receive the events on different ways. So it's possible to configure a connection between different tools and Derdack.

Also the software works really fast and directly process the incoming events. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There are currently just two things, that I dislike. First one, is that when you redirect an call with the on-call feature, you can't see, which person called you. But I requested the feature and they are going to implement a solution for that. The second thing is, that there is no real "Update Portal" for downloading patches and hotfixes. They deliver it via yammer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Really quick alerting, when a IT system fails. Also Alerting via SMS or voice call, when a production machine fails in our company. Realising a fully automated on-call system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I really like the flexibility of the tool and the possibility to connect different IT systems (e.g. monitoring tools). That helps us to implement a kind of alerting standard over different teams and units.

As well multiple notifications channels and user based profiles arrive very well with my customers.

Also great and one of the highlights is the availability of a mobile app.

Not software related but especially to emphasize: Cooperation with Derdack support and development teams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Handling of permissions are difficult in a enterprise environment. I some cases only user based security available and no groups/teams can be used.

The configuration of on call duty calendars can be improved with some feature like copy paste weeks/months. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Consolidation of monitoring system into a central alerting platform and therefore provisioning of alerts from different source in same a single process/way.

Further expansion of our automated IT landscape (e.g. ticket bridge) and "operation on the go" by using the mobile app (in future ;-). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Public visibility of on-call schedules for many teams. Team members can self manage on-call calendars and swap schedules without having to involve us, keeping the on-call page up to date. Integrates with Active Directory for easy import of user profiles (work phone, mobile phone, email address) and we are able to keep our alert data on-premise. Integrates with Exchange, Lync and our Avaya Voice system. Ability to track alerts and see if they were successfully delivered, auto-escalation to the backup person or team manager if an alert is not acknowledge within a time interval. Gives us the ability to centralize alerts and view alerts from multiple monitoring systems into one view. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

We don't have any particular complaints other than issues that may arise from an update that removes a feature we utilized pre-update. We open a support call with the vendor and they are able to address the issue within a reasonable amount of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Enterprise Alert gives you the ability to keep your data on-premise, single sign on, synchronization with Active Directory user profiles, can enhance your on-call process and create a foundation for better communication and quicker response times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Teams use to manage on-call schedules locally and were not publically known. A tool that we used prior to Enterprise Alert was very error prone for editing schedules and required an admin to update. We benefit from auto-escalation to ensure an alert is addressed asap, and have the ability to Voice Call a user in the middle of the night when emails or text messages can easily be missed while sleeping. What do you like best?

Enterprise Alert makes it really easy to manage on-call teams and alerts. We purchased this product because SCOM didn't provide the functionality we needed. Now, on-call management for teams is simple and straightforward, and more importantly, automatic (no need for users to go in and change who's on-call or forward the team on-call number to someone else). Once other teams found out about Enterprise Alert, they wanted to use it too!

I agree with Keith R., vendor support is excellent. They also listen to feature requests and try to understand your needs to make the product top notch. Many of the features I've requested have been included in releases and the product continues to get better every year (it's very solid now though). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

We've been using this product for several years now. Most, if not all, of my "big" complaints have been resolved as new features. Some things that would be nice to see would be a little more control over permissions and features in the mobile app that actually allowed you to manage your on-call schedule. One other nice to have would be a way to backup/restore the on-call schedule for a team (or an "undo" button), because sometimes users accidentally change on-call schedules and don't know/remember how to fix them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

We looked at several different solutions to better manage alerts with SCOM and this one was by far the best when it came to out-of-the-box support for SCOM and customization of alerts. I highly recommend Enterprise Alert. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We solved a manual, error prone on-call scheduling issue and also now have much finer control over the alerts that are generated from SCOM. We can now also track alerts and who acknowledged them and how long it took for them to respond (or not respond). SCOM can't even come close in it's ability to provide fine grained alert tuning, it's so much easier to manage in Enterprise Alert. Users of Enterprise Alert are much happier about on-call management (you really don't have to do much once it's configured), and we have much faster acknowledgement times due to having multiple channels to be able to acknowledge alerts (i.e. SMS, Voice, Email, Mobile App, etc.).
