The designers and support team clearly immerse themselves in ResLife and work hard to ensure the software meets the needs of our field. The pricing can be overwhelming, especially for budget-strapped and smaller institutions, but it's worth every penny. Additionally, what they offer at the base level cost is still a service and operational game-changer. As a user for about 8 years, the interface is intuitive & logical for administrators and simple for end-users. The integrations I've been a part of are mostly seamless and allows data-sharing across campus, which ultimately leads to a better student experience. Most of my years using StarRez have shown fast and reliable performance, but I have had some experiences where performance is slow due to heavy use of the software. I would recommend StarRez to any housing professional looking to improve their operations and/or the student experience! **What do you dislike about StarRez?** The learning curve is steep. Most "ResLifers" have little to no technical experience, and while I do think StarRez does what's possible to make it less overwhelming, to unlock all the features and benefits of the platform requires dedicated time and staff, which ResLife is often short on to begin with. Additionally, the cost is sometimes prohibitive, but that's more a reflection of budgets than the fairness in pricing. **What problems is StarRez solving and how is that benefiting you?** Departmental brand-building, fast & consistent messaging, revenue generation, data analysis, workflow efficiency...you name the housing problem, StarRez is consistent in addressing it. ### 2. The support team is always on standby and ready to help, and I love the community of other users. There is a massive facebook group where you can post any problem and within hours have ideas and things to try from other users who are in the software daily. **What do you dislike about StarRez?** Some of the accounting tools are not really where we need them to be as a P3; while we have found ways to make it work, we've definitely had to find unique workarounds for things that you can tell the system wasn't originally built to do. **What problems is StarRez solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are able to have all of our resident information in one place instead of spread out over various systems, spreadsheets, etc. The system supports pretty much every facet of our housing operation from pre-arrival all the way through checkout, whether the student is here for the entire academic year or just staying for a week over the Summer. Best of all, it integrates with our dining system, access system, and pretty much every other system we could think of. The support team is always listening and working on improving the software and it genuinely has made my life so much easier as a housing professional. ### 7. The team takes feedback and genuinely works to implement solutions to help their users get the most of their experiences. If technical help is needed, they are friendly and eager to help find a solution. We use this software basically all day during the week to manage our housing program and all of our large staff is very comfortable and proficient with little training needed. We have been able to easily integrate our use of StarRez with other aspects of our operation including building access and providing information to campus partners. Every new product integration has been easy and done with wonderful staff involvement. This is my favorite business partnership. **What do you dislike about StarRez?** Sometimes it takes a bit of time for feedback or suggestions to get researched or implemented, but they are careful to be sure they are releasing a good and well tested product first. **What problems is StarRez solving and how is that benefiting you?** We manage about 5000 beds and StarRez helps us not only manage those beds, but also help to work with our students/guests in a way that makes their experience easier. ### 8. When purchasing a new feature or add-on sometimes the setup can be a bit daunting. We use it to process packages and then use it for distribution as well. It makes the process very seamless, except when we can’t find people in the database, but it is rare and might just be an issue on our end. **What do you dislike about StarRez?** I dislike having to delete inputs manually. The web platform is great for on the go usage and is easily integrated with your organizations internal security. Report building is the most difficult on the platform but fairly intuitive the more you are able to practice. There are a number of additional features that can be purchased for additional costs so you really need to focus on your goals before allocation of additional funds for features. **What do you dislike about StarRez?** Star Rez has 2 user facing portals which have very different features. Really, they should be phasing one out and just focusing energy on the other vs having a more difficult one for low costs, forcing users to pay for the one that has better features and is easier to use. Their web help could also use improvement. They have great videos on building reports and I have asked repeatedly for the html codes to be available below the video for easy copy paste but to no avail so far. **Recommendations to others considering StarRez:** Do your homework. Make sure it works well (has APIs) for software you are already using. I like the sorting and stacking options. Our IT department has made it easy to use and is always coming up with new ways to improve upon the software. **What do you dislike about StarRez?** We've had issues with the licensing server multiple times. StarRez will crash and take forever to restart. My job requires me to have the program up and running from clock-in to clock-out; waiting 5 minutes for the software to reboot and be often inconvenient **Recommendations to others considering StarRez:** If you're looking for software that will give you an easy to use, easy on the eyes interface to keep track of your students on-campus, then StarRez is the way to go. The software is customizable to any departments needs and it just keeps getting better with age. **What problems is StarRez solving and how is that benefiting you?** StarRez has helped our department go paperless in many aspects. No longer do we have to have a large binder full of resident profiles and building rosters. Everything is accessible with the click of a mouse. It will make it much easier! Having all student communications aggregated and searchable is also convenient, especially when managing large-scale communication. **What do you dislike about StarRez?** Many people using the program have roles that are performed outside of the office - resident directions, resident assistants, etc. A more mobile-friendly interface (other than the limited-feature apps) would be extremely helpful for those of us who don’t sit at a desk all day. **What problems is StarRez solving and how is that benefiting you?** AutoAllocate is a godsend. It matches students with campus housing assignments automatically, where we were doing it by hand previously. A huge time-saver and much more thorough! ### 22.
