It's a free and open source tool with plenty of documentation, so it's easy to get started. If you don't have experience in MySQL, it has a user-friendly interface that will perform basic statements for you. If you do have MySQL expertise, it's still useful to review the structure of your databases in a straightforward GUI. You can also input MySQL statements manually, so experts won't feel limited. Compared to MySQL workbench, which can be used offline, phpMyAdmin is web-based. This is a disadvantage for me; it could also be considered an advantage, though, as it renders the tool easily accessible from multiple computers. I have also found that MySQL workbench is better for data modeling, as the GUI is reminiscent of handwritten data models. However, this is a matter of personal preference and may not be an issue for others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
