I’ve had an excellent experience with Insightful (formerly known as Workpuls). Their platform is incredibly convenient for remote workers, offering accurate tracking of hours worked and productivity monitoring. It’s trustworthy and ensures that you have clear visibility into your weekly work hours, which is invaluable for staying organized and efficient.

What truly stands out is their exceptional customer support. Whenever I encountered a technical issue, their team was quick to assist and resolve it. They’re also highly receptive to feedback, demonstrating a genuine commitment to continuously improving their product and services.

The only drawback for me is that the platform is currently only available for use on a desktop. I would love to see a mobile-friendly option in the future, allowing users to clock in and manage their work from a cell phone as sometimes our work is on the road and we don't have access to our computers. Expanding this feature would make it even more versatile and accessible for different avenues of work. The way we nagivate around this currently is with a manual clock-in to our administator.

I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Insightful (formerly Workpuls) demands a public warning to every business owner who is considering this app for employee time tracking.

❗ The Problem: You Will Overpay Employees for Time They Didn't Work

The biggest and most dangerous issue with Insightful is how it treats scheduled shifts. If you assign a scheduled shift (say, 8am to 4pm), and your employee clocks out for lunch, Insightful doesn't end the shift or subtract the time they were off the clock.

Instead, the system continues counting that time as “idle” — but still within the shift, meaning it is included as work time in reports. In other words, your employee could be completely clocked out, and you could still be paying them as if they were working, based on Insightful's reports.

This is not just a bug — this is a system design choice that can quietly cheat you out of hundreds or thousands of dollars over time.

🧩 Customer Support's Explanation Makes It Worse

When I contacted customer support about this obvious flaw, they told me my employee should use the “break” button in the app rather than clock out.

But here's the catch:

That option wasn’t even visible or available in my employee's app.

The default behavior — what any normal person would expect — is that clocking out stops the work timer. Not with Insightful.

Instead of acknowledging the issue or fixing it, support said they’d “pass it along to the development team” and defended the system’s current behavior.

💰 They Refused a Refund

When I pointed out that the software misrepresented work hours and caused potential financial losses, I asked for a refund of the fees I paid. Their answer? No. No apology. No accountability. Just a polite brush-off.

🐛 Oh, and It’s Buggy Too

In addition to the core issue of misleading time tracking, the app itself is buggy. The interface can be inconsistent across devices, and expected features don’t always show up (like the missing break button). This leads to a poor user experience, both for admins and employees.

⚠️ Final Verdict: Avoid at All Costs

If you’re a business owner trying to track time accurately, Insightful is not just ineffective — it’s dangerous. It misrepresents work time, inflates hours, and exposes you to unnecessary payroll liability.

The very foundation of a time tracking app should be accuracy and trust. Insightful fails miserably on both counts.

I have canceled my account and am actively exploring alternatives with accurate time reporting and transparent break handling.
