As both a fractional finance director and an accountant/bookkeeper, I’ve set up Dext for a number of clients—some where the client uses it directly, and others where I use it on their behalf. Clients pick it up very easily, and it improves the quality of their work while also saving them time (often saving multiples of the subscription cost).

The new AI Assist should improve accuracy and time savings even further. I've had very limited need for support but Davide Grande has been a great help in seeing what can be achieved with both AI Assist and Dext Solo (for my Making Tax Digital for Tax clients).

Supplier rules are very easy to set up, and save a great deal of time as well as improving consistency/accuracy.

As a user, it's the best software for inputing invoices & bills that I've used, the processing is quick and I've never experienced any system downtime.

I'm an accountant so always fee focused - there are aspects that, due to the size of my clients, that I refrain from using (health scores, line-by-line splitting) that I'd love to see included. As with any software, always fearful of future price rises! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that it saves us hours of manual admin each week thanks to its seamless integration with Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage. I also like the intelligent data capture, which lets us scan, email, or snap photos of clients’ receipts and invoices through the mobile app. It automates manual data entry and saves us time, is HMRC compliant, and provides real-time insights into clients’ cash flow and spending. The mobile app feels limited and is missing several features that are available on the desktop version. Statement extraction from UK banks can be hit and miss, and the PDFs can be unreliable. Customer support response times are also too slow; it can take up to 48 hours to receive a reply, which isn’t acceptable when we have urgent bookkeeping queries. Finally, the cost of Dext can be quite high for some of our low-volume clients, and it can end up outweighing the time saved compared with other competitors. It is quick and intuitive to navigate around the software. The multiple methods of document submission suit both the client and our team, and the available automations and computer learning for coding and publishing help streamline the bookkeeping process. Dext is fast at processing documents, and the included client expense management has been a great offering. Support with Dext is consistently superb and always quick to respond. With our client bundle, the cost for both Prepare and Precision is extremely reasonable. The adoption by our team with Dext has been excellent and it has far surpassed the software we used before. Some of the new AI integrations are annoying and I think they slow the platform down. I would like to opt out of the AI if possible.

I love how Dext digitizes all paperwork, which means no more manual processing of till slips, supplier invoices and customer invoicing. Also, no more files with tonnes of paperwork. SARS acknowledges the validity of information saved on Dext in an electronic format. The ability to immediately see how much work is waiting for each client helps me prioritize my day efficiently. I appreciate the presetting of GL coding and supplier details, making the transfer of information effortless to the accounting platform. In the beginning, the app was very simple and easy to understand, but it has grown tremendously and keeps on getting new functionality. I would have liked a training program that is continuously updated as Dext grows that is split up into small, manageable increments of no more than 15 minutes each, with a little test at the end to test your knowledge. I really appreciate how Dext saves me time and increases the accuracy of my bookkeeping. The feature that ensures VAT codes are correctly used and verifies VAT numbers on suppliers has been incredibly helpful. I also love the data insights feature, which helps me ensure my bookkeeping is accurate and reliable by flagging errors and assisting with problem-solving in Xero, making it very useful and time-saving. I found the user management side a little bit more complicated. It took me a while to get a few issues resolved. To make it easier to see, on the practice side how you can make sure adding users is available, and how you can make sure to have the client list always updated. So if you're invited in or taking over a sub, it took me quite a while to resolve rather than it being a quick fix. I like that Dext is much more accurate than others I've tried, such as Apron and Hubdoc. My account manager and the support teams are very helpful and kind, which makes a big difference when I need assistance. I enjoy the way I can bring in large numbers of invoices using my ScanSnap scanner, as it makes handling a lot of documents much easier. Additionally, the one-on-one training sessions provided by my account manager were very good and helped me greatly despite the initial setup being a bit hard. I need to be able to enter quantities into most transactions for my work in agriculture, and it would be great if this could be part of the main entry screen without needing to use data extraction. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I appreciate how Dext automates the extraction of documents for our team, giving our clients more real-time insights. We use it for approval workflows and even for the back-end review of our data. I find the accuracy of the data extraction to be extremely high, much higher than if we had people doing it manually. Synchronisation of projects - when a project in QuickBooks is created it is not refreshed overnight. Also when a project is archived, I'd really love for the integration to then not make the project visible in Dext. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I use Dext for invoice OCR and processing, and it really helps with workflow to record invoices accurately in QuickBooks. I like the OCR tech; it's really good, and the new AI agent helps a lot, making it even better and smarter. Setting up Dext was easy, and no training was needed, which was a big plus.
