I signed up for HeyGen to create a full-body avatar of myself for professional content. I provided over 20 high-quality, full-body photos, multiple videos, and clearly explained that I wanted a full-body avatar in professional attire, standing in a home-like setting, with a confident but friendly expression. Instead, I received a series of glamorized, headshot-style avatars that looked nothing like me—some even showed a completely different demographic or placed me lying in bed. I was repeatedly given responses from support that either didn’t address my concerns or gave completely contradictory information. I was told I couldn’t change outfits or hairstyles unless I created a brand new avatar and paid again. Then I was told I actually could upload different “looks” to my existing avatar slot—up to 100 of them—which is exactly what I was trying to do all along, but no one mentioned this until I had already spent hours going in circles. When I finally created an avatar using their "hyper-realistic" method, I discovered it simply cloned my original video exactly—same clothes, same posture, same movements—which defeats the entire purpose of creating dynamic, reusable, and styled content. Every time I tried to get a straight answer, I was met with either canned replies, links to irrelevant help articles, or a response that completely ignored the actual issue. After everything, I’ve come to the conclusion that HeyGen either isn’t built for professionals like me or their support system is so fundamentally broken that using the platform effectively is nearly impossible unless you know how to hack it yourself. I feel misled, exhausted, and incredibly disappointed. This has been one of the most frustrating tech experiences I’ve ever had, and I would strongly caution any serious business professional before investing their time and money here.
