Looking back our trial user onboarding was a total mess before we brought Adobe Journey Optimizer on board last year. Our goal was to create a personalized onboarding journey that reacted to user behavior in real time. For example if a user tried our key "collaboration" feature for the first time we wanted to immediately send them an email with tips on how to get the most out of it. The thing I liked best was how we could connect Adobe Journey Optimizer to our product analytics events. Setting up real time event triggers was huge for us. It meant our messaging was finally relevant. The marketing team's favorite part by far was the reusable content fragments. They could create and get approval on specific text blocks or images and we could just pull those fragments into different messages. Overall it is a mixed bag and it's incredibly powerful. Initial data modeling required for Adobe Experience Platform was our biggest challenge. We had to completely rethink our existing user data structure to fit into their schema which involved a lot of meetings between my team and the data engineers. It wasn't just an import. Our biggest headache for years was keeping our messaging straight. It was messy and our customer support team felt the pain. We brought in Adobe Journey Optimizer about 18 months ago to act as the single brain for our entire loyalty program's communication. The goal was to ensure a customer's journey was consistent no matter if they interacted with us via email, app, or SMS. What I personally loved most was the rule setting. We could finally build rules that said "don't send this person more than two marketing messages in one week, across all channels". It sounds simple, but it immediately cut down on complaints about us being too spammy. The feature our marketing team really liked onto was the visual journey canvas. It let them map out entire campaigns visually so they could understand the logic without needing a technical advice from me. Not going to sugarcoat it but our first month felt like wiring a big Christmas tree. We rolled out Adobe Journey Optimizer in late 2023 to fix a messy mix of email tools and a separate SMS gateway. The visual journey canvas become the hub, let our marketers drag decisions and wait steps while I handle the technical bits like event schemas and data resources. Our team's favourite feature turn out to be the settlement builder and audience rules syncing from our CDP. Non-developers could create fair segments with profile attributes then reuse them across journeys which reduced back and forth tickets. Usability is decent once you learn the vocabulary. Screens can feel busy and you need to know where audience, segments and events live but day to day it's stable. The best experience for us was plugging into Adobe Analytics.
