If I could give SMTP.com negative stars, I would. This is, without question, the most disastrous, incompetent, and downright infuriating company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Their entire operation is a joke, and it’s astounding that they are still in business.

First, let’s talk about their servers—or lack thereof. Imagine paying for a service where emails are supposed to be sent promptly and reliably, only to find out that this company can't even get that basic function right. Sending delays are the norm, and when I say delays, I’m talking about emails that are crucial for business being held up for hours, sometimes even longer. For a service whose sole purpose is to send emails, this is absolutely unacceptable.

The website and portal? An utter disaster. Buggy, slow, and constantly glitching, it’s as if their developers decided to stop working on it halfway through. I’ve been locked out of my account multiple times—once for several months!—with absolutely no help from their so-called support team. Their website is a minefield of errors, and navigating it feels like a punishment rather than a service you're paying for.

But the real kicker? They upgraded my account without my consent and began charging me over $600 a month. That’s right, this company decided to play with my hard-earned money without so much as a confirmation or notice. When I tried to cancel in March 2024, it took them an entire month to respond—after I had to chase them down with seven follow-up emails. When they finally replied, they hit me with the most absurd, condescending excuse of needing a 30-day notice. Let’s get this straight: it took them more than 30 days to even respond to me, yet they still refused to cancel my account immediately and pushed it back another month. Even worse, they continued to charge me beyond that point, and here I am in August, still being billed for a service I canceled months ago.

SMTP.com is the epitome of incompetence, greed, and customer neglect. They have zero respect for their customers, and their business practices are shady at best. This company is not just terrible; it’s a liability to any business that relies on timely and effective email communication.

There are countless better alternatives out there that actually value their customers and provide the services they advertise. Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from SMTP.com as humanly possible. This company is a nightmare, and your business deserves better.

It was functional when we needed it. Nothing fancy, just did the job.

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

So the renewal kicks in automatically. No email is sent that renewal will kick in. You are expected to remember that there is 30 days notification required.

So the payment is taken, I then cancel, realise I do not use this service. SMPT says because you did not give us 30 days notice we will charge you for a whole year. I have canceled as not using it! SMPT enjoy 11 months of my money when I'm not even using it!

The service was fine but there's plenty that was not ok.

So for whatever reason, mand I've never run into this with a service driven company.  They required 30 days notice for you to cancel. So if one day you realize you don't need the service anymore and cancel you would expect maybe not to get a prorated refund for that month but you would NOT expect to get charged for an additoinal 30 days for the next month, for what?  Basically they are stealing an extra month from you.  I cancelled on October 2nd so not only did I not get a prorated refund for October (fine) but they wanted to charge me for the entire month of NOvember. Again for what?  So I cancelled my credit card so they couldn't charge me.  Beware. YOu will always have to pay an extra 30 days no matter when you cancel. 100% theft and very underhanded practice.

What I like best about SMTP.com is that I don't have to worry about junky and spammy websites causing the shared IP address to get penalized. That was the most critical factor for me when it came to me choosing SMTP.com over a competitor.

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

The two main dislikes I have at the moment are that SMTP.com doesn't have a more affordable plan, and it does go down for a few minutes every few months or so, which could equate to lost leads. 

I don't expect it to have a free version, but a plan for light use would be nice, as I don't think I will ever generate more than 1,000 emails in a month.

Overall I don't think anyone can go wrong with signing up and incorporating SMTP.com into their website's tech stack.

Nothing. Their service was terrible. The email delivery simply did not work. Some emails were delivered in 15 minutes, some were delivered in 6 hours, and some were never delivered at all.

Their billing policy has tricks in it. It is difficult to cancel and they keep charging you even after you've canceled.

Josiah was helpful when I could chat with him by phone while trying to set up my account and add the extra domains.

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

I signed up for an SMTP.com account 14 March 2023. I was able to add my first domain without issue but quickly learned that to add more domains, you have to contact support for each domain to have them activate it on their end. Ticket requests to add domains went unanswered, so I called and got help by phone. It was very tedious, but I stayed with it for a couple of days to get everything set up.

One of the domains had a sending error for some reason. I still don't know why, and could never get resolved.

I'm on Pacific time, and they are on Eastern time, so support is touch and go. Chat is never available... it goes to an email form. Phone support is available, but only during daytime hours EST. I'm not okay with no support available on weekends regarding email delivery -- if there are issues, I need to know I can reach someone.

But by far, the WORST part about SMTP.com is trying to cancel! I have been trying to cancel my account since the 20th of March. I quickly determined that SMTP.com would not work for me for the reasons I have already mentioned. I moved all my domains to another service, got everything up and running on the 20th and requested cancellation via email with SMTP.com.

I even paid the $30 invoice for the entire month, even though I only used the service for a few days.

So far, the only responses I have received are, "Why are you cancelling?" And, "We will offer you a discount to stay." They are completely ignoring my requests to cancel my account! I have asked SIX times now to cancel. Ridiculous.

They have quite an aggressive sales team but the level of support and expertise they have is amazing.
We had deliverability issues with sparkpost before and they just shut down our account and with smtp folks we were able to quickly setup everything and have good results so far.

Nothing, I thought they were a reliable service but was sorely disappointed.

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

We signed up with SMTP.COM to improve the reliability of email delivery for our customers,  but without any notice whatsoever we found our account cancelled on a friday night, severely impacting the experience for our customers.

If there were any issues with the emails being sent they should have contacted us, they did not, they simply cancelled our subscription on a friday night without any notification to us.

To make matters worse we had just paid them for a month's worth of service, i'm so thankful that we did not pre-pay for any further service than this with these clowns.

I emailed them requesting a reason why the account was cancelled and requesting a refund, they declined to answer my questions and also declined to refund despite us paying for a month only 3 days ago.

They integrate with a lot of stuff. For a monthly service it's reasonably priced.

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

They make it very hard to cancel.
You cannot cancel in the portal, and you cannot cancel by email, you need to call them and hope for the best. There are many reviewers online who have been scammed and been unable to stop continuous charges.
They never respond to emails.
Amazon SES is far superior and much cheaper.
I can't see a single reason to use these guys and don't recommend them unless you need to urgently raise your blood pressure.

Amazon SES is great but quite techy.

I would read reviews carefully before even doing a trial for any SMTP relay service now.

**What do you like best about SMTP.com?**

The cost wasn't bad but all of our emails using this service had delivery issues. Perhaps too many people spamming with smtp.com? Not sure... but we didn't have much luck.

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

Emails seemed to go to spam a lot. We used several different services including Amazon SES and Send Grid and smtp.com seems to generate the worst delivery results of the bunch. When we tried to cancel, they took it upon themselves to keep an extra payment - nice of them. I would recommend you skip this service and find something with better deliverability. We've tried for years to improve the results on this platform and it's just not worth the hassle.

**Recommendations to others considering SMTP.com:**

I would look at options like Send Grid and Amazon SES before using SMTP.com. For us, it was a last resort.

SMTP.com was allowing us to avoid using our own email when bulk emailing. This keeps your own email off the blacklists. Unfortunately, the deliverability and reliability of SMTP.com made it difficult for even our optin lists to get the emails in their inbox. While we have been using SMTP.com for years, it was always our last resort.

Nothing. They took forever to approve my account so I never used them.

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

They won't refund me my money. I signed up for Free trial but never used it because they took forever approving my account. Then they charge me... Now they won't refund me? So slimy and sketchy. Impossible to get a hold of. I call them and they won't transfer me to someone that knows how to deal with the problem.

It did deliver on what it stated it would.

For the price of what you pay for, you can get a much better deal using Amazon's SES. 

Also, the cancelation policy is not good because you must give a 30 days prior notice to cancellation, meaning that they manage to squeeze an extra month of subscription out of you unless you cancel 30 days ahead.

**What do you like best about SMTP.com?**

It has actually served us well and created us a minimum of 50% of our brand-new company. I send out just 5000 e-mails every 2 weeks, usually without mistake. With every SMTP provider there will be some concerns, it's how you solve them, the support was spot on every time

The only cons I would point out is that the UI has to include some little functions, like password reset for extra accounts

when using SMTP, you will get everything you need to set up a mailing system to your employees. the product is so easy to use and it has benefited our company by letting us email their pay stubs instead of having to print 100's of paper stubs.

It is easy to set up, secure and gives me analytics that helps me keep my lists up to date. In the years I've been using these guys to relay mass emails, I've never had any difficulty with their service. It just works. Also, their servers seem to consistently stay off the blacklists.

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

The reporting features are pretty broad, but they could be broader. I would like to download a list of all hard-bounces and all complaints over a given time period in one report, but right now it requires two reports to get all that data.

Follow best practices for emails and list management, and these guys will make sure your emails are delivered.

They make sure the bulk email I send for my clients gets delivered. The high deliverability rates are the first step in achieving good ROI on email marketing campaigns. The reports they give me make sure I keep lists up to date and neer spam anyone.

**What do you like best about SMTP.com?**

Customer service has been quick to respond and helpful. Set up has been relatively simple and online guides are helpful. We are only testing the system at the moment so have not used the system widespread just yet. We are planning to test the dedicated IP service next.

SMTP.com worked smoothly with Filemaker scripts to send emails via SMTP.

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

Have to pay extra for a dedicated IP address in order to send to @qq.com addresses, because the domain limits the number of emails in a certain time-frame that it will accept from any single IP address. Being in a shared pool of IP addresses meant my single email to a @qq.com address was rejected. If you're planning to do business with China or have any Chinese contacts this will be a concern for you. We have not encountered this issues with other domains as of yet - we are still testing the shared IP address pool at the moment. 

Online set up guides were out of date, need to be kept current. 

**Recommendations to others considering SMTP.com:**

The price point is such that there is limited risk to conducting a test. Their customer service was prompt and very supportive. 

**What problems is SMTP.com solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our email provider has a 70 email per address per half hour limit. We have hundreds of clients that we need to notify of payments on a single day. We needed a way to bypass that limit. 

Our database system was also experiencing errors when trying to send via our standard SMTP server, we needed a separate SMTP server to test the issue.

Good email marketing product, good deliverability, with good tracking and reporting for users to understand the email marketing performance. The service performance is reliable and the product is easy to use. 

Good product recommend to email marketing solution seekers. Worth to give it a try.

Customer support waiting time for oversea users is a bit long, but fair enough and the service is quite reliable, the performance doesn't go down. 

The only thing not like it now is the pricing is less competitive on the market now. It will be better if the price can go down and provide some free trial services for start users.

The email marketing product is easy to use, provide good deliverability and analysis, meet all email marketing requirements. However, the support for overseas is not fast enough, but fair enough. A good solution provider.

Very good infrastructure with white-listing, dedicated sending IPs and in-depth reporting. 

**What do you dislike about SMTP.com?**

We've had a few challenges on sufficient leadtime and notifications on maintenance work by SMTP.com. However, our account manager is in close contact with us to ensure this is not happening again in the future.
As SMTP.com is only hosted at one provider, we've had routing issues once. It would be beneficial if SMTP.com would have a second provider in a different country/location.
