I describe the structure I want and it builds the database, the properties, the select options, then sets up the project views. No manual clicking through schema setup. Global search is the other thing I'd miss: one shortcut and I'm in any doc across any team space without remembering where it lives. What I didn't expect is how well Notion works as a write target for AI systems built outside it. We run agents through the Notion MCP server and they publish results straight into databases as rows. A row is both something a person can act on and something an agent can write, which is a rare combination. One routine scans customer calls hourly and creates a follow-up row with a recap and a ready-to-send draft attached. The person's experience is just "there's a new row," which is the point. The net effect is a single system of record rather than four tools each holding part of the picture. **What do you dislike about Notion?** Honestly the main thing is that I can't keep up. Features ship faster than we can evaluate them, and the release notes tell me what's new rather than what's relevant to us. Custom Agents is a good example. I read the changelog entry, couldn't work out which of our use cases it would actually solve. It would help if we could get recommendations on what features are relevant to us and how we can use them. The other one is the credit model for Custom Agents. I'd much rather bring my own model key and pay the provider directly. We already run agents on our own keys outside Notion, so if BYOK existed for Custom Agents I'd probably have built them inside Notion instead. **What problems is Notion solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Notion to solve context fragmentation by aggregating meeting notes and project details. I’ll dump the raw notes during the call, then keep a short summary at the top so I can quickly find the decision again three weeks later without rereading everything. The other thing it does really well is documentation. Instead of scattered files, I can nest pages inside pages and keep an entire area of the business in one place that’s actually navigable. Linked databases also help a lot, since the same info can show up wherever I need it without me duplicating it. When I use Notion, I feel like someone got into my brain and designed this software specifically for me. It just works the way I expect it to and it still finds a way to exceed my expectations. I have a list of like 5 enhancement requests. That's not many at all after using it heavily for a year. **What do you dislike about Notion?** I wish the data could be shared in more restrictive ways so you could control the amount of properties or details a viewer could see. 1) I wish you cold hide the main page's property column in a database view. This would allow you to share the view of the database with someone without the risk of them digging deeper into data you don't want them to see. 2) I wish you could create an exact clone of another database and just eliminate columns from it while the rest of the columns/rows continued to stay synced. That would be another way to share data while restricting it. 3) You could also assign permissions to properties/columns. By specifying permissions on a column-by-column basis, you could ensure your shared data isn't revealing proprietary information. The other thing that bugs me is the inability to create a rollup of a rollup. If a research page has long blocks of text, a few images, and two or three linked database views, editing becomes noticeably slow and the initial load may take several seconds on a slower network. The upshot is that I have had to break single logical documents (e.g. one paper’s draft, figure list and revision checklist) over three or four pages just to keep them responsive, which fragments context and makes cross-referencing harder. Lazy-loading content below the fold and lighter rendering for embedded database views would be a big help here. 2. Some offline features Offline access is patchy so I often can't open pages I know I will need if I am commuting or on dodgy campus Wi-Fi. That makes Notion less reliable as a primary note taking tool when traveling or doing field work and I end up duplicating notes elsewhere. This could be solved by letting users explicitly pin selected pages or teamspaces for guaranteed offline read/write with sync on reconnect. 3. Academic and mathematical typesetting. inline equations work fine, but there is no equation numbering, cross-referencing or citation/bibliography management. I write papers in LaTeX. That means Notion can only ever be my drafting and organisation layer the final manuscript always has to be rebuilt elsewhere, which introduces duplicated effort and risk of version-drift. It works as a single, connected workspace for docs, wikis, and project tracking instead of juggling separate tools. The database and template system lets you build custom workflows that fit how you actually work, and everything stays linked and easy to reference across pages. **What do you dislike about Notion?** The learning curve can feel steep at first. With so much flexibility, it takes time to figure out the “right” way to structure a workspace. Performance can also lag on pages with lots of nested databases or other heavy content, and offline mode still isn’t as reliable as I’d like. **What problems is Notion solving and how is that benefiting you?** Notion helps solve the problem of fragmented information. Instead of scattering docs, project trackers, and internal wikis across five different tools, everything can live in one connected system. That’s made it much easier for me to keep multiple projects organized in one place and quickly find what I need, without constantly switching context between apps. ### 50. It’s fast and accurate, and it can even handle heavy tasks that other AIs struggle with. The onboarding was pretty easy as well. I initially thought the pricing was a bit high, but over time I realized it was worth it. **What do you dislike about Notion?** It’s not very fast. It takes a while to complete some of the tasks I ask it to do, but it does eventually get them done—it just might take time. Another issue is that it isn’t very beginner-friendly. Even though I’m fairly tech-savvy, I only figured out about 50% of how to use it, and I still couldn’t work out how to assign agents to automate specific tasks for me. I mostly ended up just prompting it and getting answers. **What problems is Notion solving and how is that benefiting you?** Notion integrates workspace which allows multiple users to work at the same time on the same platform. ## Notion Discussions -
