**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kapil S. | Project manager, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The Microsoft Project and portfolio management software has a very clean and structured user interface, which makes planning timelines easy, we can also manage dependencies and also track the progress. The integration with MS 365 tools like teams, excel, power bi and sharepoint works very smoothly and also reduce duplicate work. I would say that the performance of it is very reliable even if the project is large or portfolio has multiple projects and programs inside it. The pricing is good as it provides whole solution in package replacing different reporting tools in just one solution.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The support experience and onboarding can feel slow and complex, especially for new users without proper project management tool exposure. Some features has to be learned and guidance is necessary and documentation is also required. The platform is powerful, but the AI capabilities are limited and very basic as compared to other tools available.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me solving multiple challenges in planning, tracking and prioritizing multiple projects in a structured way. It bene fits me by giving clear visibility into timelines, dependencies as well as resource allocation to the task and their availability and helps me to reduce delay and last minute rush.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikesh K. | Principal Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It's easy to use, can be tempalitized, easy to export and maintain the critical paths. Also it's integration with Microsoft and few Non Microsoft products. Its better product for sml to mid size organisations to manage the project and monitor it's progress.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Installation and lots of updates are killer to this product. Another issue is it's financials which is integrated with MS office hence organisations are hesitant to buy.
I suggest it should be a web based product and available for users freely within limits.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The bigger issue is it's not a strong Web based tool not the components getting installed on system. The desktop application is faster and has good performance however it's not ideal across non windows Platforms.

**Reviewed by:** Laurie P. | Strategic Account Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Among the best things about Microsoft Project is its seamless integration with Office 365. Not only can I access it from my web or mobile device, but because it has a dedicated section within this suite of products, highly complex tasks such as creating projects from scratch and generating visually appealing reports such as burndown charts and Gantt timelines are now easier than ever. In addition, MS Project's advanced portfolio management tools allow me to have complete visibility of all current proposals while tracking their progress.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Microsoft Project is not the best choice when a project's timeline has numerous changes and lacks fixed dates and durations. Since most people don't have access to Excel, exporting data to Excel is inconvenient, making it difficult to share the data. Before entering any information, users should fully understand the scope of their project before setting it up.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Though the tool is packed with a lot of features, it is not easy for a layman to use it. We need proper training to be able to use this tool. Since MPP isn't restricted to just Project/Program Managers, it's difficult for folks out of this domain to be able to make the best use of this tool

Unless you know them all it's difficult to make the best use of this.

**Reviewed by:** Ryan D. | Scheduling Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Microsoft project is a good planning tool at the baseline timeframe of the schedule. It helps with planning at the beginning stages of a contract. Effective baseline tool

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

I do not like the lack of intuitive progress updates on schedules. It is not an easy tool when doing schedule delay analysis. It is not a good software to use after the initial project schedule is made

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

I would recommend this software to anyone who is required to make planning schedules. However, I would not recommend this software to someone who does multiple progress schedule and schedule delay analysis

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do not solve many issues using Microsoft project, it is more of a check the box submission requirement for some of the owners we deal with on multiple contracts.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Microsoft Project is great for tracking every detail about a project and the resources needed to complete it. We use it in a number of different ways but it's great for keeping everybody on the same page and ensuring status is visible across the company.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It's a very complex product, you get out of it what you put into it and it takes a lot of time to build out a good template. Once you've put in the time you get some great results.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

Make the setup and deployment process easier and less resource intensive.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jack C. | Staff Physical Design Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management offers a central home page view for all project tasks, and it supports multi-project management. There are many different workflow approaches to choose from and there is a very special feature that allows team members to fill time cards. This is a good project management tool for complicated projects or large organizations.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It has a steep learning curve, especially for users new to project management. It doesn't work well with most third-party softwares, and there is no good communication tool bundled inside.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were trying to find software that can handle multiple projects with very different workflow, and Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management is the one that does the job. However, the learning curve makes it a little hard if you plan to let more than one person engage in managing the projects.

  ### 50. Comprehensive and complicated tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David K. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It's the most comprehensive project management software and covers every use for managing people, resources and timing.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It's really complicated to learn and there are quirks that are only figured out by trial and error.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it to verify that a project I'm proposing can be completed in the desired time frame - or alternatively, that I propose a realistic time frame for project completion.
