**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

Ethnio makes it so much easier to recruit and manage participants who represent the populations and usage patterns my clients need to understand. Once they get into it, using the tool actually helps our clients get smarter about qualitative research instead of focusing on numbers. A lot of organizations see recruiting as a barrier to "doing the research" and Ethnio helps demonstrate how recruiting, selecting, and managing participants also yields a tremendous amount of insights and information. I love how easy it is to get granular information and filter the pool to make sure the study is sufficiently inclusive, focused, or broad depending on the research question. 

The data about participant response and screener placement and engagement makes it easy to see where bottlenecks are happening in recruiting to adjust quickly when things are taking longer than expected. 

Also, everything about incentives is fantastic. 

Unlike so many other things out there, while ethnio supports scaling up an enterprise-level research practice, it isn't biased towards over-indexing on scale as a goal in and of itself, Because it's made by people who care a lot about research, it gives me a lot of confidence.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

It is a tool that requires and rewards a certain amount of expertise, which is fine. Except that other tools make it seem like just using the tool or platform is enough, and this is how the unhelpful or misleading research happens.

Primarily, it is smoother and more centralised process. 

Previously, different stages of research (recruitment, scheduling, and reimbursement) involved different tools and roles. It was hard to ensure that participants had consistent experiences across different studies and researchers.  

We really value our relationships with participants and want to ensure they have good and clear experiences when engaging in research and co-design. Ethnio enables us to do that whilst also ensuring the process is efficient.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

Ethnio is an essential part of our research operations toolkit. It has enabled me to centralize screener creation, scheduling, incentives, and panel management into a single platform. Previously, I was using numerous tools and spreadsheets to manage these tasks. The platform's clean and intuitive user experience, along with its responsive support team vis Slack, has been invaluable. I appreciate the team's dedication to ensuring a positive user experience, which saves me hours and makes participant logistics highly efficient.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

The platform is really good, but a few additional customization options would be beneficial. I've found that the dashboard data is heavily focused on quantitative stats, and I would appreciate a clearer view of trends and narratives. Addressing these points would be an excellent way to further enhance an already great product.

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ethnio eliminates the need to juggle multiple tools for research operations. We used to waste valuable time patching together screeners, calendars, and payment systems, but now it's all in one platform. This has dramatically improved the speed and quality of our research, making our process more professional and scalable for the entire team.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

I had to get a research project off the ground fast, with little time for training or setup. Ehtnio made that not only possible, but surprisingly enjoyable. As I dove in I kept discovering thoughtful touches that made me say, "Wow, they even thought of that!" It's clear it was designed by people who understand the day-to-day work of researchers. What really impressed me was how the platform didn't just support my existing approach to managing a research project, it gave me new ideas for how I might engage participants and manage studies more creatively and effectively. It's not just a research recruitment tool, it's a research partner.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

It's hard to say there is anything I truly disliked. Ethnio is packed with so many powerful features, and I haven't yet run into any limitations. That said, the platform is deep, and that depth can feel overwhelming at times. If you try to use every advanced feature all at once your first time using it, it's easy to get a little lost. It is the kind of tool that grows with you as your needs become more complex, given that you want to spend the time learning everything.

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem Ethnio solves for me is time. Before using it, I was stuck in an old-school process that consumed so much of my day, it became difficult to manage the complexity of my project. By offloading the workload of recruitment management with the features of Ethnio, I was able to reclaim my time and redirect that energy toward what matters most, doing great research. Ethnio doesn’t just make research easier, it gives me the time to be a better researcher.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

There are lots of things I like about Ethnio. I like how easy it is to send payment to recipients in various countries, and choose what type of payments they can receive, including charity donations. I like how all I have to do is upload emails, and the rest is already written (but editable if I need to customize anything). I like how easy it is to track the status of the payment, and provide reports to my finance team. On top of that, the support from Ethnio is always super fast and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

The platform does have a bit of a learning curve, and has so much functionality that it can feel like a lot to figure out in the beginning. But not that everything is configured how we want it, I'm in and out within a minute whenever I send incentives.

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an international product and company, we have to send incentives worldwide, and Ethnio has made that very easy. It's also made it easy for us to track and audit how much we're sending.

Ethnio allows us to recruit, screen, house, and pay participants easily. The processes are easy to understand/learn, and the team is always helpful when we face a problem.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

Our use case does not always require specific features, but Ethnio is very accommodating with tweaking things to fit our needs; i.e., matching the current workflow to our team's needs.

We recently needed a feature to be moved from one location, locked down to a few admins, to another page that is accessible by the majority of users; this increased the efficiency of recruitment and issuing payment to participants.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

I've worked with Ethnio for over three years, and I've constantly been impressed by their ability to listen and respond to our business priorities and our rapidly changing needs.  Ethnio is always a willing partner who rolls up their sleeves to solve problems.  Nate and Shirin are amazing, and make us feel like we are their most important client even though we know they have larger clients.  We can come to them with problems, ideas, pain points and they are always willing to listen, brainstorm and problem solve!

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

There are no real flags that I have to call out about working with Ethnio.  The only thing I've experienced is an issue on my side where my internal security team struggles with working with a smaller, more adaptable external partners.

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ethnio has helped us solve problems around incentivizing our research participants around the global.  Ethnio has supported our large research panels which has hundreds of panelist around the globe in multiple languages.  Ethnio enabled us to do research with those individuals where we would have otherwise not have.

Beyond that, Ethnio has worked with us on building out our research operations infrastructure from scheduling participants, participant database, internationalization of research and more!  We started working with Ethnio due to its intercept platform but we've expanded into working with them and leveraging them for so much more!

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

Ethnio makes scheduling UX interviewees a set-it-and-forget-it experience.  I can gather information about my potential interviewees while they receive custom, professional messaging from the Ethnio system.  I especially like that Ethnio sends reminder text messages, which has really helped our show-up rate.  As someone who conducts a lot of qualitative and 1:1 UX interviews, being able to leverage Ethnio has saved me a ton of time and effort and allows me to focus on the more fun parts of my job that aren't scheduling.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

I do wish there were more advanced quotas.  For instance, I'd love to be able to set a quota for X type of users to sign up per each Ethnio calendar, and after that quota has been reached, then no more of that user type can sign up.  Right now, I achieve that functionality by creating individual calendars per each user type, but it would be great to combine it into one experience.  However, Ethnio does do a good job of using qualifying criteria to exclude users who do not meet the criteria at all.

**Recommendations to others considering Ethnio:**

Consider Ethnio if you find yourself wasting a lot of time scheduling any 1:1 or group interviews -- it's a time saver!

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am saving myself time communicating with users interested in participating in UX interviews with me.  With Ethnio, I know that users are receiving the *correct* information, and I'm not accidentally messing up a time zone or a Zoom link.  Once I verify that my Ethnio email templates are accurate when I set up the screener, I know users will receive consistent information.  What's more, since users select their own interview times, I don't have to go back and forth in real time to coordinate the schedule.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

Ethnio enables in-context remote research in your product, especially with high intent true users. It’s relatively easy to set up and can be leveraged for qual and quant data collection. Their access to help is amazing. I feel confident the team is there if I ever need support.

I’ve used Ethnio at two tech organizations (I brought the tool to one of them over four years ago) and was able to conduct studies that led to some eye opening findings. It made our team not only successful but also streamlined painful jobs like recruiting, scheduling, and paying incentives.

Ethnio has added many features over the last four years which means there is some learning curve to fully utilize them all.

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ethnio allows to recruit true, non-panel customers giving even more credibility to your findings. It saves a ton of time which is critical in typical work environment where people expect to get feedback and findings fast. It is also a very engaging tool so more stakeholders want to be part of your studies.

I like that I can quickly and easily get feedback from any customer, any brand. I like that I can quickly and easily recruit users for any study I'm running and even keep track of their information without asking them directly to enter their name and email!

Nothing, it's fantastic. Best recruiting tool by a long shot.

I am the Head of User Experience and use this tool to recruit users for all tests - across multiple products as well as get fast and large amounts of insights from our customers via surveys. It answers large questions for our business.

Ethnio keeps all our participants data secure.

It is convenient to have one central location to manage our entire recruiting process from screeners, to scheduling and paying participants. 

It is incredibly flexible to fit the needs of our small User Research team. 

Their customer experience is exceptional! They have always been available to answer our questions.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

If you want to use its more advanced features, you will likely need some training since it is a powerful tool and can be overwhelming at first. We met with the Ethnio team every week to train and help us out with our first few projects, which was very helpful. I believe that is part of our Enterprise package.

**Recommendations to others considering Ethnio:**

The Enterprise package is worth it. They have really taken the time to make sure we receive all the support we need. 

Connect your IT department with the Ethnio team to improve email delivery. We saw a big improvement in email delivery when we did this.

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ethnio has really streamlined our User Research recruiting process so we have more time to focus on the actual research. We originally selected Ethnio to keep our participant data more secure. But since using the tool we have come to realize how powerful it is, and we are using it in ways we didn’t anticipate. 

Screener Surveys
Instead of using SurveyGizmo to create our screener surveys, we now use Ethnio’s survey tool, which automatically uploads all the data into Ethnio. So now that we have all our screeners and participant data in one location, we can better keep track of things like answers to screener questions, who participated, who was paid and so much more. We can also set control over who can “view” and “edit” content, so we are never worried about accidentally changing or deleting something.

Incentives
We now manage just about all of our participant incentives through Ethnio, which saves us time. Before Ethnio, we were ordering e-gift cards using our corporate credit cards and then had to create an expense report. Now we just make one bulk payment to Ethnio and our whole team can use the tool to send out incentives. Ethnio will also handle any participant issues with the e-gift cards so that is one less thing we have to worry about. There is a small fee for paying out incentives in Ethnio but they are always transparent about costs.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

Finding qualified participants for research quickly is often a barrier to doing user research. Ethnio empowers teams to do intercept/time aware research and share sophisticated screeners so agile teams get past this blocker. As a recent example, I shared a screener on Craigslist and Twitter and in 3 days, had over 225 qualified recruits for my research and scheduled 40 of them to support standing research in our sprints and iterative design cycles. I've been using Ethnio for 8 years in professional and educational capacities and I've been super impressed with how much the product has grown to accommodate needs of the research community while maintaining a support team that is as fast, friendly and supportive as ever.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

There's a learning curve to getting the most out of all of the sophisticated features Ethnio has to offer and it can be daunting to team members new to the product.
That said, with enterprise accounts, the Ethnio support team very patiently hosts training for teams and is very speedy with responses to questions. They've also helped us optimize our screeners in advance of launch so they appear correctly on social media, etc.

**Recommendations to others considering Ethnio:**

Ethnio will teach you how to get good at creating screeners and you should read some of their help content or best practices in advance of launching your first screener.

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's an integrated recruiting tool so I'm not juggling emails, spreadsheets, calendars, payment processing and receipts across 10 different accounts and tools in order to get participants for research quickly. More importantly, it empowers my teams to fit user research into our 2-week sprint cycles because we have recruits ready and scheduled. In addition, we can share detailed participant matrices with our clients, many of whom are as committed as we are to making sure we are speaking to a diverse range of participants – again, I don't have to go to 3-4 different tools to share screening criteria and how well our studies meet the criteria – it's all there in Ethnio. Lastly, Ethnio's live-intercept screeners are incredible when you are able to use them. With just a few lines of code added to the site you're studying, you can do time-aware research and this always feels like magic and yields incredible results for iterating design.

Before using ethnio, our team took from 1.5 to 2.5 days to recruit participants for in-person or remote studies. Now we can have in-person participants with less than 2 hours of work, and can have a remote study running in about 30 to 45 minutes.

It integrates well, both visually and with our data.
Ethnio lets us intercept and recruit real users doing real activities on our website and app, in a way that feels natural to them, and well-integrated to our brand and visuals.  I cannot stress enough how much of a difference it makes to have this quality of participants over traditional recruitment methods, like panels and e-mail. It is also very easy to integrate the user and session information to minimize the number of questions we need to screen participants. E.g. phone OS, number of purchases, which we could then use to only schedule android participants with little experience in buying goods with us.

It covers all the needs for participant recruitment -even those we didn't know we had.
Since ethnio is a dedicated recruitment tool made by and for UX researchers, it embodies the knowledge of your current AND future needs. For example, at one point we needed to start scheduling users automatically –since it was taking a lot of time–, and ethnio already had that feature, even integrated with google calendar.

Their support team works close to us and is willing to incorporate our feedback.
Even though there weren't many situations in which we needed support, the few were good experiences. It felt very much like working with a teammate rather than with a vendor. Also of note, we've seen many of our suggestions for UX enhancements and features implemented shortly after.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

I wouldn't say there's something I dislike, but that investing some time learning is a "fair price" to master any power tool. I wouldn't expect to install photoshop and master it in an hour, for example.

Nonetheless, we could be up and running on the first day, and then we learned most of the features and integrations in the first month.

If you are serious about maturing your UX research practice, try ethnio.

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We take less time recruiting and more time researching.

The reason this has proved game-changing is that accelerating recruitment also accelerated ALL of the other research processes, which in turn resulted in:
* The mitigation of the "we don't have time to research" frictions.
* An increase in our ability to get buy-in from teams and senior management.
* A vast enhancement in the quality of our research, thanks to the time we _didn't_ spend in recruiting

I love how they know what the research process is like. Their features are tailored towards User Researchers, so I find that to be extremely helpful. I also really like how you can easily manually confirm users, reinvite users, etc.

I HATE how unreliable it is. I feel like there's always bugs. Additionally, there's many small, hidden settings that are critical to set correctly in order to have the screener work appropriately.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

At a large financial tech company, Ethnio provided us with compliance and security customization like crazy, which was hugely important. Aside from Qualtrics, Ethnio was the only other product that got through security. Ethnio is created specifically for UX Research, and it shows. There are a bunch of tools out there, but none with Ethnio's functionality. You can tell Ethnio was built with real research projects in mind. Every research project is different, needs specific participants, screeners, etc., and Ethnio really understands that and has tons of tools that help you really customize and templatize projects. We leaned heavily on Ethnio's "Pool" feature to house our participant database, where we could filter for specific criteria, and set up "Pool Rules" so we weren't emailing people too often or having the same people in our research projects back to back. The difference between using Ethnio and using tools that were not designed for participant management was like night and day. Lastly, customer service was incredible. Very friendly, quick response time, always available to jump on a call or demo, and just a great team to work with all around. 

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

There's a bit of a learning curve at first, with a lot of new settings to keep track of, but once you learn the workflow and get more familiar with the tool, it’s not an issue. Having many ways to customize your project is such a huge plus!

**Recommendations to others considering Ethnio:**

Do it! I always recommend Ethnio to anyone in this field. Again, there really just isn't anything else out there with the capabilities that Ethnio has.

Screening - with logic!
Recruitment management and scheduling - the 'picky' scheduling tool is my favorite!
Incentive payments - so easy and lots of options!
Participant database - there's nothing like the 'Pool' tool out there that I've found. Super helpful to track and manage.

It does what we need it to do. It's a little overwhelming to use at first but it is a useful product.

The WORST customer service. I signed up and got an email to schedule a walkthrough demo. I was excited because I thought it would be really helpful and I was looking forward to using their product. I scheduled a time and no one showed up. I sent an email, no response. I sent another email and I got a nasty response with no apology, no offer to reschedule, just a 'ask me questions and I'll answer' response. I said I wanted a walkthrough and she basically said no.I asked why they even offered walkthrough if I wasn't going to get one and no response. I told her that this interaction was not great customer service and she was like, 'there should have been a cancellation notice to you, thanks for your feedback'. I was so mad. I would NEVER imagine treating a customer this way. Unfortunately this is the only product that does what I need so I have to use it. I would have went with someone else if I could

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

I've been working with Ethnio for five years at three different companies. At Facebook and Airbnb, I used Ethnio to manage research operations (specifically intercepts and participant management) across teams of 60+ researchers. Now that I work as a team of two, I use Ethnio to carry the burden of research operations for my own studies. I've found Ethnio to be extremely adept to a variety of situations, and the customer service at Ethnio is second-to-none. Any question I have I get an answer to often within an hour, sometimes I notice they just fix the issue on my behalf and send a quick notification about it. I like that with Ethnio I can do everything from source participants on my own site, to run brand surveys, to create email templates, to manage my pool of participants. I love the incentive features, too and have used them since the days of just Amazon gift cards. It's such an easy tool and my go-to starting place for almost every project I start. I can't recommend it enough for budding research operations teams trying to handle multiple streams of work across researchers, all the way down to scrappy startups of one or two researchers. 

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

Ethnio, like most small research tool companies, has bugs occasionally. To get around issues with this I try to test my projects with Ethnio before I launch to avoid unexpected errors. The Ethnio team is always learning, so I've found that being honest and proactive with my feedback has helped resolve any issues I have. 

**Recommendations to others considering Ethnio:**

Be sure to email info@ethn.io if you have any questions at all. I've saved a ton of time by just asking! Further, be sure to use tagging whenever possible. Ethnio is feature rich, so it's important to use tags and naming conventions that will pay dividends later as you utilize more features or start more studies. 

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With a lack of user data to pull from, Ethnio allows me to easily get access to real customers through their intercept tool. Additionally, our team is scrappy and not ready to buy into a managed brand survey platform so I use Ethnio has a quick way to get feedback about our tool and experience for our brand team. Finally, Ethnio makes it easy to manage participants across a variety of projects and easily keep tabs on where they came from, when and what interaction they've had with our research team.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

The best part of Ethnio is how much time my research team saves recruiting participants. Prior to using Ethnio, our team would spend days trying to track down and screen people for user testing. With Ethnio, I'm able to target specific types of users and contact respondents almost instantly! Such a game changer not only in saving tons of time, but its enabled my team to advocate more the value of UX research to stakeholders. Now stakeholders are beginning to understand UX from our perspective. 

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

It's such a powerful tool with lots of features. At first, the experience might feel a bit overwhelming, but once I got past the learning curve I feel so much more in control of managing all the logistics that go into UX research. They're support team is solid at getting feedback and they're constantly working on improving their UX. 

**Recommendations to others considering Ethnio:**

Give it a try. There's so many features within the product that you'll find solutions to a LOT of UX research needs. Also, their customer support is fantastic and super responsive. If you're not using Ethnio, you're behind in the game.

Ethnio allows my team to intercept real users in real time. This has proven extremely beneficial because of the amount of qualitative data we are receiving. Our business as a whole is able to empathize holistically with our customers which strengthens our relationship with them and ultimately gives us a competitive edge.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

There are so many steps involved in finding, recruiting, scheduling, and paying participants for a study, and Ethnio makes the process so much easier. This isn't just because they have intercepts that pop up on our website; they also make recruiting through email much smoother. I have so much more time to focus on my actual research, thanks to Ethnio. Additionally, having the possibility to intercept customers has opened up the possibilities of what kinds of research my team can do, and the kinds of users we can talk to. We've gotten more creative with our projects as a result, which yielded great insights. 

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

I wish it was easier to add people that we recruited outside of Ethnio. For example, from time to time, we use different recruiting services to find people who are outside of my company's customer base. It's a little tricky to add them. Additionally, there is a learning curve, and I'm still having the most trouble, admittedly, with the Pool feature (which helps you keep track of participants and potential participants). It's still more confusing than I would like it to be, considering it's supposed to make it easy for me to keep track of people who responded to my emails or screeners, and people who participated in research. I know the Ethnio team is still working hard at it though and I look forward to seeing more improvements. 

**Recommendations to others considering Ethnio:**

Schedule several calls with Ethnio's time to go over everything you need. They have SO many useful features but you may need help discovering them. Also, they have lots of creative ideas/solutions that they're happy to share.

Ethnio's good quality is that it screens/recruits AND schedules. Otherwise, there's not much else to like, unfortunately.

Ethnio is the bane of my team's existence. But it is a necessary evil because it's really the only tool out there that does what we need. The interface is not great- it's very limited. When creating screener surveys, we are also limited in the types of questions we can ask and how we can order them. For example, we can't have branching question tracks. This can be incredibly frustrating. 

**Recommendations to others considering Ethnio:**

Really consider if this does everything you need it to do, or not. If recruiting participants is already a quick and easy process for you, you may not need anything like this. If this would actually help your team, despite its shortcomings, then sure, consider it seriously. Just keep in mind that you will most like not be able to create anything more than simple screeners- AKA you will still have a fair amount of manual work to do regarding recruiting.

With Ethnio, we aim to solve the problem of complicated recruiting processes. The purpose is to streamline recruiting, screening, and scheduling research participants. While it basically does what it strives to do, the overall experience of using Ethnio hasn't been great, and really doesn't allow UX researchers to do everything we need to do with a tool like this.

**What do you like best about Ethnio?**

I use Ethnio every day - my team does a pretty high volume of qual UX research, and this gets us direct access to our users through intercepts, and lets us schedule and pay them pretty easily. Did it take me a while to learn? Yes. But most of our studies aren't that simple either, and we do mostly international remote testing, so I need tools that accommodate a lot of different scenarios.

**What do you dislike about Ethnio?**

The learning curve. There are so many settings it's easy to lose track of things, but once you do a few projects, it's not an issue.

**Recommendations to others considering Ethnio:**

Take them up on their phone call demo things. Without that it can definitely be tricky.

**What problems is Ethnio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was wasting 10x more time working with agencies or panels that yielded the wrong participants. Now I can get direct access to my users in a few seconds, and more importantly get them in the moment as they use our products. Scheduling and paying them all in one place is just a huge time-saver. Big fan of Ethnio!
