## About Dovetail
It’s never been easier to build a product or service. The barriers to entry (ideas, talent, and tooling) are quickly becoming commoditized by AI. The faster your teams align behind and solve the most critical customer problems, the more revenue and market share you unlock. The only way to win is to identify what customers need and deliver it before the competition. But this is difficult to do. Data is scattered across teams and tools using various methods and it is difficult to understand, and align on, at speed. Even in the world of AI, the unique challenges associated with gathering, analyzing, and understanding complex customer feedback lead to teams wasting millions of dollars in failed products, slower development cycles, and duplicated efforts. As a result, they are continually risking decreases in customer satisfaction, and ultimately revenue. Dovetail provides always-on customer understanding. Our AI-native customer intelligence platform automatically turn sales calls, user feedback, support tickets, and voice of customer data into actionable insights that grow your business. Dovetail integrates with dozens of tools like Gong, Intercom, Zoom, Salesforce, Slack, Teams, and Google Play to analyze video, audio, documents, and text. Auto-generate reports and requirements documents; configure dashboards to visualize trends; and set up agents to ensure insights are acted on. Enable your team to track feature requests, identify pain points, reduce churn, and increase customer satisfaction through high-quality, accurate, and real-time customer intelligence that’s accessible to everyone. Deploy the industry-standard, enterprise-grade system of record for all of your customer intelligence. Put your customer first and grow your business. We’re for teams who care about solving real customer problems. Join the likes of Meta, Volvo, AWS, Dyson, Deloitte, and thousands more as they put their customer first with Dovetail.

 ### 2. Great for Organizing Research and Transcripts, but Frequent Changes Disrupt Workflow

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gonzalo M. G. | UX Researcher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I can bring all my research and my user base into one place, which makes it much easier to keep everything organized. It also lets me transcribe audio interviews—something I can’t do with my other research tools.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

The prices keep going up steadily. They’ve made so many changes to the features and UI that the way I originally set up my repository has become difficult to use. On top of that, they’re pushing AI features that, in my experience, don’t work very well.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to keep a repository of research from different sources. I can store interviews and contextual inquiries here, which I haven’t been able to do in other software. It also lets me create insights by bringing together multiple data sources.

 ### 3. Intuitive and Accurate, but Pricing Changes Consideration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ayzit D. | Senior UX Researcher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I use Dovetail for qualitative user research, particularly for transcribing and analyzing user interviews. I appreciate that Dovetail provides accurate transcripts and allows me to tag parts of the transcript to categorize and organize my data. The AI chat is pretty helpful for quickly querying my projects and pulling up quotes for synthesized themes. It's straightforward to use, with little learning curve if you're familiar with other qualitative research tools. I like being able to upload any type of file, including transcripts or audio files. The transcription for the audio and video files I've uploaded is very accurate. I also find the interface intuitive and easy to navigate.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

One negative is that you have to record your interviews in other software and upload it into Dovetail. Additionally, there are integrations I could have used, but it wasn't too troublesome for me to do it manually. I also heard from my fellow researchers that the AI chat wasn't very accurate, though I didn't encounter that problem myself. One negative is that they have changed their pricing model recently, so cost is also a factor I'd consider when deciding whether to recommend or not.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Dovetail for accurate transcripts and organizing my data by tagging parts of the transcript. The AI chat helps me quickly query projects and pull up quotes for themes.

 ### 4. Quick access to insights across thousands of data points

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

The channels feature has improved significantly, effectively powering our VOC which used to be an entirely manual process. Also the ability to connect with MCP and via Claude directly are huge in enabling us to bring the customer voice directly to where we work.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Costs have absolutely ballooned and the interface continues to get more confusing and convoluted. Meanwhile the way our team works has changed and we are starting to see more value out of working directly with LLMs than using Dovetail for research analysis.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Centralizing our research data and empowering non-researchers to carry out analysis, speeding up product development times and empathy.

 ### 5. I couldn't do my work without dovetail

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nils A. | Product Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Without Dovetail, I wouldn't be able to conduct as many user interviews or extract actionable insights as effectively as I do now. Having access to a complete transcript, automated highlights, and the ability to edit everything allows me to relax and concentrate fully on each interview. I use Dovetail several times a week. Recently, I've started integrating Intercom and am also working on connecting Slack to bring in insights from the customer support team.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I'm still learning how to structure the work for the highest impact. The available templates sometimes feel at bit too opinionated, while a blank project obviously leaves me with all the power to mess it up on my own. A bit more guidance would be appreciated.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The transcription and automated highlights and summaries are taking hand on work off my plate which is great. I like that I can organize nuggets into insights, but I'd like more help with that structure. I highly appreciate that I can share highlights with the team via a public link, that way I can build empathy with our users across the whole team.

 ### 6. Streamlined UX Research, But Setup Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Milos D. | Product Design Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I find Dovetail incredibly valuable for its ability to streamline the process from customer interviews to extracting insights and saving both time and money. The use of AI to quickly summarize and extract common themes from customer feedback is immensely helpful. I also appreciate how it integrates seamlessly with tools like Zoom and Google Suite, making the workflow efficient.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I found the initial setup of Dovetail quite difficult and time-consuming. The early version of the product required a substantial amount of effort to establish a tagging system, template, and other necessary configurations. I also struggle with organizing files and projects when multiple teams are using Dovetail, as it becomes challenging to manage and sort through the various documents and initiatives efficiently.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Dovetail to streamline the process of extracting insights from customer interviews, saving time and money with quick analysis and AI-generated summaries.

 ### 7. A key resource for insights-driven decision-making

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hector M. | Design Director - Virtual Simulation & Learning / DesignOps, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Laerdal Medical is a sales-led, B2B, global healthcare education organization that collects knowledge about customers, users (learners), and markets from several different sources. Sources that are sometimes behind organizational siloes. Dovetail, with its ease of use and AI-powered enterprise intelligence, is helping create an Insights library that aims to facilitate insights-led decision-making for product development.

Functionalities like Ask Dovetail allow us to tap into years of documented design research covering multiple markets, segments, and customers.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Project folders and organisation could improve. Not being able to have a personalized view of the workspace can make finding projects and general administration more complicated than needed.

Admin channels' resources could also improve, allowing admins to assign channels to specific users or projects could make the administration of resources and cost control way mroe effective.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Access to years of design research and konwledge to foster a culture of insights-informed decision-making.

 ### 8. Dovetail research repository

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

The AI analysis is improving. I still use the same tagging and transcribing as core.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Constant change, and not always for the better, makes it hard to make Dovetail useful

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All of our research is all over the place. Dovetail helps us keep things all together.

 ### 9. Centralized Research Hub with Powerful AI Features

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prachi G.

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I use Dovetail for research synthesis and consumption. I like that it has become a centralized location for all our research data. The AI features are quite impressive, especially the ability to chat with the data, which is really helpful. I also appreciate the highlights, particularly those that are auto-generated.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I think there is a lot that can be done with the canvas. If I want to add data onto the canvas view, that should be allowed.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail has become a centralized location for all our research data, aiding research synthesis and consumption.

 ### 10. Dovetail makes research easy, collaborative, and impactful

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail is incredibly easy to use and has helped us build a stronger research culture at my company. All of our studies now live in one place, making past work discoverable and ensuring insights don’t get lost. I first used Dovetail at a previous company and loved it so much that I championed for us to adopt it here. The analysis features make it easy to collaborate, tag, and discuss findings across teams, and having everything traceable back to data has elevated the quality of our decision-making.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Overall, I don’t have many complaints. Occasionally the analysis interface can feel a little heavy when working with very large data sets, but that’s a minor tradeoff given how powerful the collaboration and repository features are.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail solves the challenge of storing, organizing, and accessing research in a centralized place. Before, insights were scattered across decks, docs, or people’s heads, which made it hard to build on past work. Now, everything is searchable and connected, so our team can quickly find relevant research and avoid duplicating efforts. It also solves the problem of connecting insights to the raw data and every decision we make is traceable back to notes, transcripts, or recordings. This has increased trust in research across the company and made it easier to collaborate, align on findings, and build a shared understanding that influences real decisions.

 ### 11. Dovetail Has Transformed How We Share Insights

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I’ve been using Dovetail as the research repository for my organization, and it’s honestly transformed how we share and access insights. As an admin, I’ve set up a process for research sharing through it, and it has made information not only more accessible but also more meaningful.

What I love most is how easy it is to navigate and actually use the platform. The interface is clean and intuitive, which makes digging into research feel seamless instead of overwhelming. The contextual chat is a standout feature for me—it allows me to surface insights in a way that feels conversational and connected, rather than just searching through static documents. This has really changed how I find and re-use research across projects. It centralizes knowledge, makes sharing effortless, and keeps valuable insights alive instead of buried in folders. It’s been a huge help in not just storing research, but in truly using it.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

If I had to point out a downside, it would be that the AI chat—while super helpful—still has room to grow in terms of credibility and accuracy. It’s already useful, but if that improves, it’ll be an absolute game-changer.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem Dovetail solves for me is making research accessible and usable across the organization. Before, insights were scattered—living in documents, decks, or people’s heads—making it hard to find and reuse them later. With Dovetail, everything is centralized in one place, which means no more wasted time digging around or reinventing the wheel.

It also solves the problem of sharing research effectively. Instead of sending out static files, I can set up a process where research is organized, searchable, and easy for anyone to engage with. This has made collaboration smoother and helped insights actually influence decisions.

 ### 12. Auto-Transcripts and AI Summaries That Save Time

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Auto-transcription of videos and an AI-generated summary.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I can’t import contacts from Mailchimp to merge user profiles.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It keeps research data and insights analyzed and stored in one place. I can easily transcribe, tag, and cluster the most relevant insights, which makes it much simpler to stay organized and find what I need later.

 ### 13. Great product!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

We originally purchased Dovetail to help support consolidation of our User Research knowledge base. Over the past year, we've leaned into their other products (e.g., Channels) and have really expanded on the different use cases across our business leveraging Dovetail beyond Product Design.

We've seamlessly integrated their products into our flow of work and the tools are easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Dovetail should focus on their Professional Services at launch. There wasn't a ton of support to get the program up and running initially which caused a lot of work on us to figure out how to use the tool and how best to launch this for our team. Additional support there would've helped with early buy-in and adoption.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail has helped us with consolidation of our user research, plus more recently assimilation of data sources across our business through our use of their Channels product.

 ### 14. Life Saver

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

It just makes my job so much easier. It’s intuitive to use, the generated insights are genuinely helpful, and finding verbatims is effortless. It’s such a no-brainer self-service tool. Its my ride or die when it comes to my research work- I use it everyday!

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

The only thing I’d change about Dovetail is being able to search keywords within a specific project. Right now, I can only search site-wide, and since I have multiple research projects running at once, I’d love to be able to narrow searches to a single project.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love having a complete archive of my customer interviews, with all videos transcribed and key insights generated automatically. It saves so much time and helps me get to insights faster.

 ### 15. Dovetail - the best partner for UX researcher

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I use Dovetail both at my full-time job as a UX researcher in a big product company and for smaller freelance projects, and it’s been a game changer in both settings.

The automatic transcription is probably my favorite feature — I don’t have to waste time typing things out, and I can jump straight into tagging and organizing insights. I really like how easy it is to set up tags, group them into folders, and gradually build an analysis as I go through interviews. Pulling highlights into reels and then exporting them is another feature I lean on a lot. Stakeholders love seeing direct clips, and it makes the research feel more tangible.

Lately, I’ve been using the built-in AI more and more. It’s great that I can ask it questions at different levels — within one user, a project, or even a whole folder — and get quick summaries or answers to research questions. It definitely speeds up the process of turning raw conversations into insights.

And honestly, I appreciate that the most important features — transcription, tagging, highlights — are included in the lower-cost plan. That’s what makes it realistic for me to use Dovetail as a freelancer as well, not just in a corporate setting.

Overall, it’s become one of those tools I can’t really imagine doing research without anymore.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

One area where Dovetail still falls short for me is reporting. I find it much easier to build research reports in Miro — creating documents or boards directly in Dovetail feels clunky. For example, I can’t freely resize images, and the formatting options are pretty limited, which makes it harder to design something visually clear and engaging.

Another challenge is integrating quantitative research. I don’t expect Dovetail to analyze survey data for me, but I haven’t yet found a smooth way to bring quant data into the same repository alongside qual studies. Right now we still keep these two streams of research separate.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail makes it easier for me to turn messy interview data into clear insights I can actually use and share with my team — without spending endless hours on manual work.

 ### 16. An essential UX tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Owen D. | Design Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

The ability to quickly tag up videos and create clips of multiple users talking about a specific topic is enormously helpful and compelling when sharing findings with stakeholders.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Honestly there is nothing I dislike about Dovetail. It is a pleasure to use as they have considered the user experience so thorougly

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Dovetail to make user research reports and the video creation is very helpful when dealing with execs and other senior stakeholders.

 ### 17. Leveraging Customer Intelligence to Drive Strategic Product Development

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Patrick M. | Licensed Realtor, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I’ve been utilizing Dovetail to examine historical customer data, and the insights generated have proven instrumental in refining our future product offerings.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

It takes time to fully understand and leverage all its features effectively. The depth of functionality can feel overwhelming. I’m not a researcher, but once I got it figured out, it was awesome.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Buyers are ultimately liars. But, when you can extrapolate data and truly see the behavior in front of us so I don’t spin in a circle.

 ### 18. Makes user research so much easier

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hans H. | Senior Enablement Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

The transcriptions are great and combining that with the AI functionality and tracking of themes across multiple entries makes everything so much easier.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I felt there was a little bit of a learning curve into the platform.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before watching all recordings back and in separate platforms have transcritions and insights/themes was very manual and resource intensive - we can be far more efficient but also more insightful.

 ### 19. A great tool that uncovers insights quickly

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I really like the magic AI features. It really speeds up analysis and uncovers insights. It is very powerful and has a good degree of accuracy

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I do find the tagging quite tedious but I find it valuable when I have done it. I like the automatic tagging but find that it lacks some accuracy. The tagging of open-ended data from surveys is lacking and is a feature that is required (at the moment it is a mix of using a workaround and manual tagging)

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speeds up analysis. Everything stored in one place. Removes need for note-taking during online interviews.

 ### 20. My team uses Dovetail as our research operations platform.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

It's built to help us handle large datasets and easily share insights as well as letting our stakeholders search for nuggets of information via magic search feature.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I'd like a more robust people database to store information about folks we've engaged with.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Makes us more effecient synthisizing large datasets into sharable insights. Saves time creating the sharable insights and gives our stakeholders the ability to find their own insights.

 ### 21. Love it

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Very powerful tool, I love the AI features, the ability to add different components into the project overview. I use it weekly, it is simple enough to use

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

It can be difficult to get consistency within the team because Dovetail offers so many ways of doing different things

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ability to keep everything in one place, being able to add different components in write ups, searching between different projects

 ### 22. A good tool for managing feedback

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

A good organization tool to manage feedback

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Lacking advanced AI tools to automatically understand the conversations based on context.
Lacking the actionable piece - I have the feedback now, then what

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

User research and understanding customer pain points and feedback

 ### 23. The Best Research Repository I've Ever Used!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel C. | Director of Product Design and UX Research, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail is an amazing tool that has transformed my research workflow. Its intuitive interface and powerful features make organizing and analyzing qualitative data incredibly efficient. The ability to tag insights, easily share findings, and access a centralized research repository has significantly improved my team's productivity. I particularly appreciate the seamless integration with other tools and the user-friendly design that encourages collaboration among team members.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

The only downside I've encountered is related to the Team pricing structure. I wish there were more features available at this level, as many advanced functionalities seem to be locked behind the Enterprise edition. It would be great to access a wider range of tools without needing to upgrade, which could enhance our team's capabilities even further.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Centralized Research Repository: Dovetail consolidates all user research, feedback, and insights into a single platform. This eliminates the chaos of having data scattered across multiple tools and locations, making it easier for teams to access and utilize information efficiently.
Streamlined Analysis: The software simplifies qualitative data analysis by providing intuitive tagging and organization features. Users can quickly categorize insights, making it easier to analyze findings and share them with stakeholders, thus accelerating decision-making processes.
Time Efficiency: By automating tasks such as transcription from interviews and providing AI-driven summaries, Dovetail significantly reduces the time required to gather and analyze data. Users report drastic reductions in workload, enabling them to focus on strategic initiatives rather than manual data handling.
Improved Insight Accessibility: The platform’s powerful search functionality allows users to quickly find relevant information across different projects, enhancing the ability to derive actionable insights from past research. This accessibility helps teams stay informed about customer needs and pain points.

 ### 24. The best tool to compilate interviews

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luciana G. | Product Designer, E-Learning, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

It's a perfect tool for studying and compiling interviews. It's easy to use, and it creates a data bank with many insights that facilitate the analyses. So, I frequently use it, at minimum every month. It's helped me link a lot of interviews that I realized, with various themes, to connect them all and search. Perfect!

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

The transcript in portuguese brazil could be better, its takes a lot of work to rewrite everything. ,
Also to give some courses with how to use, best practices in research and compilate interview data, tagging.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps me to organized and analyse customer feedback, users interviews, by centralizing everything. Its perfect to analyse all the recordings , building one huge data base , that I can search everything and tag. Helps me to create insights with evidences, to link contexts and easy to share with the team

 ### 25. The place to be for user insights

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alessandro C. | Sr. Product Designer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Organizing research projects and integrating the research pipeline into a single tool is simple.
Using the data fields, I can organize and connect projects, and view filtering is helpful for showing research activities by themes or preferences.
The AI summaries feature for interviews is a game changer for us, as we wear different hats in the organization and are in a short time, accelerating the time to the insights.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I do not dislike it properly, but I struggle more with the Insight Report format because we prefer using slides as a company, and the copy-paste process is not straightforward.
The list of users we research is challenging for me if it is not carefully managed.
I want to use templates more, but I didn't find it useful to use a template without having a proper preview and implementing it in the project.
I appreciate the concept of automating clustering, but I found it didn't provide significant assistance.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps in organizing a complex research projects by connecting different research activities.
It helps in planning research interviews in the kanban view, so we can track them.
We can extract instantly ready-made insights by keywords when needed, without searching and copy pasting from different pages.
Autmatic summaries is time saving. I can analyze quickly an interview.

 ### 26. Dovetail has made a huge impact to Design Research for our team

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail saves our teams so much time on synthesising user insights. Mainly with their transcription and AI insights powered by Antropic. Being able to create insights for research means we can segment and single out special interest research that we can then present rapidly to the client and thus accelerating our product design process. Having the ability to live-collaborate with the design members on a single client means we can build out tags and insights much faster than sticky-notes on a screen. We also hand over the repo to the client who can continue to build out the insights as more product testing happens in the future.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Sometimes it's careful to be mindful of the AI insights, make sure you check it thoughoughly. This is on the human-in-the-loops responsibility, not so much Dovetail though. I'd like to see more in-app quick tutorials and embedded help but i'm sure Dovetail have this planned.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail saves us time with user research and insight collation. Less time is spent synthesising research and more time spent on improving product flows from the insights. This has drammatically increased our workflow and clients have noticed how much deeper our user insights have become.

 ### 27. Great research repository tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephanie W. | Market Research Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I like that there is a site-wide search where I can type keywords and find anything that is related. I also love the direct import from Zoom so I can link up and transcribe my interviews, which saves me a TON of time. Of course the tagging is great, it's important for our organization to quantify the qualitative research we get.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I don't love that only insights get prioritized for viewing, I wish some of the ReadMe parts of projects did too. I am also struggling a bit with some of the new AI features, and how they are applied (I'd like to turn them off for certain parts of the product and I don't figure out how)

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem we had before Dovetail was research results and insights in multiple places. We were storing market research projects on SharePoint (which is a pain on its own to build), user research (some on SharePoint), and somewelsewhere. Dovetail helped us get EVERYTHING in one place, so we can direct our co workers who are looking for research to ONE PLACE. It's also extremely easy to create an insight or project page. Once we have everything done, you click a template, copy and paste the info you probably already have from your PPT into the format and share. It's amazingly easy and so helpful to link out for our teams.

 ### 28. Store, analyze, and showcase your research data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Faidon L. | Senior UX Researcher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail is an incredibly versatile research repository. It is the tool we use to store, analyze, and present our qualitative UX research data. It is very quick and easy to analyse multiple interviews and identify patterns. It can help a power use to cut through the data in different ways and create compelling reports whilst linking to the evidence.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Dovetail can be overwhelming for less experienced users who join an organization that is already using it in specific ways. Also, depending on how well organized the information is, it can also be a challenge to find the right thing for a stakeholder who is not using it regularly.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows us to store all research data in a single accessible space and ensures accountability. It also gives powerful tools to the researchers to analyze their data and find patterns. It also allows researchers to create reports with videos and quotes, linked to the original source and keeping the evidence chain unbroken. The new AI Magic features are also big time savers as they can summarize and highlight interesting points in interviews.

 ### 29. Great product if you're willing to commit to the user research discipline

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mathieu D. | Président - Associé, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail is a great tool to centralize, analyze and leverage customer insights. It helps us be intentional with the information we're trying to collect from our customers and share insights to colleagues. I use it monthly basis and even though I didnt have any formal training on it, I can easily find my way around in most cases. They just released a bunch of new features, such as Channel, which I am really excited to experiment with and integrate with our various customer insights sources.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

The tagging system can become a bit complex to leverage in an optimal way. The folder/project/tag relation could be made simpler as we find ourselves often ending up with multiple tags that are very similar but act independent. This skews the weight of insights when running analysis.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Identify patterns in customer's problems, unmet needs or aspirations

 ### 30. Changed the way I analyze user interviews

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Damian L. | UX Desginer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I love the way Dovetail offers auto-transcribing videos (to my surprise it worked really well with Polish language), and jumping through that video by selecting the right parts from transcription. With highlighter and tagging I can quickly find the most interesting parts of the video.
Before, my team rarely watched the recordings from usability testing, but it changed with relevant clips made in Dovetail. And it really changed their attitude to feedback when they were able to see participants reactions, instead of just summary.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

When I started to use Dovetail I felt that there should be more guidance on how to organise my work in that tool so it would be most helpful. I had to spent a lot of time to figure it out, and re-iterate on my initial ideas.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me to find new insights and present them in a format that is more convincing for the stakeholders.

 ### 31. Dovetail has been a game changer for our product team

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marlana C. | Lead UX Researcher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail has opened up customer feedback to our entire product team. I use this product daily, and we have hundreds of hours in our repository that allow our product team to get a temperature gauge on our customers on any subject we've collected feedback on.
The AI summaries are amazing and allow users to quickly understand the customer problem by summarizing across all mentions. Overall the product is incredibly easy to get up and running and sharing out feedback outside of Dovetail. We are so happy to have a repository to organize product feedback.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

It can be a bit tricky navigating around the product sometimes and I wish we were able to timebox search results. For example, it would be helpful to know feedback about a particular feature since its redesign 6 months ago. Any feedback before them would not be as relevant and we would want to exclude those from the summary.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail brings all of our user research feedback into one place and allows any user to easily find information about what customers are looking for. It is also makes doing qualitative research analysis a breeze.
I can easily organize my notes and analyze the findings super fast, moving projects along faster.

 ### 32. Why Dovetail is my go-to tool for qualitative data analysis

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anna B. | Research Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I’ve been using Dovetail for qualitative data analysis since 2021, and it has significantly improved my workflow and efficiency as a qualitative researcher. Before switching to Dovetail, I used Google Docs with a makeshift plugin to export insights to Google Sheets. I’ve also experimented with Miro, but nothing compares to Dovetail’s ease of analysis. I’m especially excited about the upcoming 3.0 release, with its new AI features that I hope will further accelerate my work.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I'm really excited about what’s to come with Dovetail 3.0. I’m hoping that manual tagging of every interview becomes a thing of the past, with the AI able to identify patterns based on just 2-3 interviews and auto-code the rest according to themes predefined by the researcher. The "human in the loop" principle is crucial to me, and I’m hopeful that Dovetail 3.0 will make this leap.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faster Qualitative Data Analysis with Dovetail
Dovetail enables faster qualitative data analysis by identifying patterns and themes across different research studies. The ability to reuse research data across multiple projects and search specific fragments or keywords makes the platform incredibly efficient. With these features, Dovetail helps streamline research workflows and accelerates insights.

 ### 33. Dovetail saves me hours doing research — and looks beautiful!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Federico J. | SaaS LeadGen Copywriter, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail simplifies the way we compile, organize, and share research and insights with internal and external stakeholders. From all the apps I tested, it was the only one flexible enough to match our process. It helps us get done with research faster and with the added bonus of working with their beautiful interface.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

The transcription editor could use some work. If you have to edit your transcripts heavily or do many interviews, you'll want a more powerful editor that helps you work faster.

Lots of little details could be improved, like seeing inline comments all in one place, creating your own shortcuts to move faster through the data, or being able to add an image to each project icon.

I'd like to get more users for the money I'm paying. 5 users can be filled in really fast if you work with a team. Also, providing access to certain projects to different users can be cumbersome. This should be simplified.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gathering data can be a tedious, boring process. Dovetail's beautiful and easy to use interface makes it a fun experience that also saves me time.

**Official Response from Dovetail Research:**

> Thank you for taking the time to review Dovetail Federico, we appreciate it!

 ### 34. I recommend this tool to every company I work with

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anne B. | Senior UX Researcher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

The Dovetail team understand their audience. Every new feature they release makes my job as UX Researcher easier. I can collaborate effortlessly with stakeholders across all depeartments, that's how easy it is to work with. After I set up a project and create a tag board literally anyone can analyse and synthesise interviews and user tests. This is sooo helpful for scaling research. Also, nothing gets lost. With the global tags we can collect insights across all projects and over time build an extensive opportunity backlog. Every customer need or pain point is stored and can easily be prioritized.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

For data privacy reasons I can't make research reports public. This means every stakeholder needs to log into Dovetail to view the report and watch the interview snippets. This is tricky when you're dealing with busy execs who have no patience to sign up for a new tool, even with SSO.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

More impactful research. Streamlined proccesses. Seamless cross-functional collaboration.

 ### 35. A worthwhile tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian R. | UX Lead / Product Designer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail has made it easy for our team to collect, organize, bundle, and review user research data all in one place. I really appreciate the ability to tag key insights and keep everything structured. It helps me revisit information quickly, even if I haven’t touched it for weeks or months.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

When I first took over as the main user, I found there was a bit of a learning curve. Our researcher had everything set up well, but as a product designer who doesn’t spend every day in research tools, it took some time to feel comfortable navigating and making the most of its features.

Now that we no longer have a full-time researcher, the cost feels a bit steep for how much use I get out of it. It’s definitely worth it for larger teams, but for someone like me who dips in and out, it feels like I’m not getting full value from the subscription.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Usability testing and user interviews are a fountain of insights but without Dovetail those insights, if not immediately applied, would, over time, get lost in the wind. Dovetail helps us manage and draw connections that we can refer back to.

 ### 36. An insight is worth a million dollars

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rashina B. | Director of research and strategy, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail’s continuous desire to improve is honestly its most attractive feature. I first made the case to use it at our company over two years ago. Today, as the head of research and strategy, I’ve turned into a key part of our researcher onboarding for every engagement for our Fortune 300 enterprise clients.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I wish our use case as a consultancy was more of a primary experience. When it comes to easily creating hierarchy and strict permissioning for separate teams and client teams

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Streamlines process of uploading user video sessions and analyzing transcriptions

 ### 37. Enables beautiful reports, video clips, and roll-ups of information

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Olivia H. | Principal User Researcher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail has well thought-out flexibility and functionality. I like that I can tag information and then see it together, and that they're always making intuitive updates to the functionality (for example, the Canvas format has come strides since it was first released).

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Taxonomizing and tagging the information is a challenge that Dovetail does not provide a lot of support for. They suggest leading workshops across teams, but at a company of 100k+ employees and low UX maturity, this is not realistic. I also get nervous about the focus they're putting on AI. I'm all for adopting new technology, but the AI features are annoying, unreliable, inaccurate, and now I can't easily search for simple information like in what Notes the word "bulk" appeared. It doesn't always make sense to semantic search for insights across products when I'm looking for very specific information.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides a central place to track and keep qualitative user data. It makes it easier to grab clips and quotes and use them to convince product teams to make good decisions.

 ### 38. Vital Research Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Seth ✊🏻 T. | Senior User Experience Designer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail is by fair my favorite and most important research tool we use at Geoforce, I use it all the time. My favorite feature is probably the ability to highlight with specific tags and then use those tags to surface trends accross multiple interviews. We've also set up our users with personas, which allow us to filter quotes based on their role or internal employee vs external customer. Dovetail has done an amazing job at being flexible so that I can customize and set it up the way that works best for our customer and four each project.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

The transcripts aren't always perfect. Sometimes I have to edit. When voices are similar, sometimes it gets confused on who was talking.
We also have some calls where two languages are spoken on the same call (English and Portugeuse). So the ability to translate both for tagging and timing purposes would be really helpful. At the moment the transcript just gets super lost when someone talks in Portugeuse.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail gives me direct quotes from customers that I can use to show leadership why particular features are important outside of pure quantitative data.
Putting a company and name to the quote adds a lot of power. Dovetail helps me keep all of my interviews organized. And I love how dovetail allows me to synthesize accross multiple interviews or projects to see the big picture.

 ### 39. Great tool for processing user interviews

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erica F. | Senior Product Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

My team and I have been using Dovetail for three years now, and it’s our go-to platform for processing user interviews. It's incredibly easy to upload a recording and start tagging insights. The UI is simple and beautiful, and we love it!

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

The navigation within the app can sometimes be confusing, and we've struggled to expand its use cases. While we use it extensively for processing user interviews, other types of feedback are kept separate, which creates some friction that we haven't been able to resolve yet.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail helps us keep all recordings and insights from interviews in one place. The major benefit is the ability to use tags to classify insights and quotes from customers, making knowledge easily accessible when needed. We often take screenshots from Dovetail and paste them into our work boards to help set the context for meetings or to advocate for a user pain point we believe should be addressed.

 ### 40. best tool in a researcher's toolbox

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zohreh G. | Senior product researcher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I like the fact that with dovetail we have consolidated all of our research projects including the recorsings, analysis and reports into a single platform.
Also for international companies, the transcriptions in multiple languages and using AI for analysis in a valuable time saving feature.
I also love the AI's help with directly extracting the answers to the initial research questions from the transcripts which streamlines the analysis process.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

I've witnessed that navigating through Dovetail (notes, insights, highlights, etc) is a bit challenging for non researchers. As a researcher, I appreciate the flexiblity but it might not work for other roles. and also it can lead to inconsistent documentation styles across different research projects conducted by different researchers, making it yet more dificult for others to navigate.
on the other hand, I also find dovetail not an ideal tool for managing analysing survey data.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves for documenting, analysing and reporting findings in a smooth way.

 ### 41. The Ultimate Solution for Data-Driven Research Teams!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel M. | UX Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I'm excited to share my experience with Dovetail! This user research data repository is constantly evolving, and the enhancements—especially with the addition of AI—truly elevate the experience! It’s clear that the team genuinely cares about making data manipulation easier with every update.

Importing data from CSV files and video recordings is incredibly straightforward, making our workflow so much smoother.

My team and I are absolutely loving our journey with Dovetail, and we can't wait to explore all the amazing features it has to offer!

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

For those storing research data in places like Figma the migration of old insights is slow and manual.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail has truly changed the game for my team! Before, we were juggling research data in local files and emails, which made it tough to find past insights or follow up with users. Now, with Dovetail, we can upload everything in one place, and the search feature is a lifesaver! We can quickly find what we need without the hassle. It’s made our workflow so much smoother and helps us make better decisions. I can’t imagine going back to the old way!

 ### 42. My favorite product research tool, best on the market for repos

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maegan P. | Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I’ve been using Dovetail for years; I first became a user when I acquired and implemented it at a Series C startup as their first and only UXR. I’m continually impressed with their dedication to iterating on its features and functionalities. I really appreciate their community channel where we can ask questions, give feedback, and make feature requests. Dovetail has done taxonomy right from the start, which is the most important aspect of a repository tool. The maturity of the analysis features has grown a ton in the last year alone, especially with their introduction of advanced AI—even now expanding it to auto-tagging and tagging suggestions. I was recently on a contract with a company that had extremely outdated tooling… it was painful to go from doing work that previously took me a few hours with Dovetail to then taking many days. Thankfully I still use Dovetail for my volunteer and side projects, but yea I gained a new level of appreciation for Dovetail this year. It’s the best on the market and certainly worth the investment if you have the budget.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Initially, it was difficult to use it for survey research but I found a good workaround for how they designed it at the time. For me, one of the most exciting things in the pipeline for Dovetail 3.0 is better support for survey data. It’s a good starting point, and I look forward to how they scale it to support large surveys.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Discoverability of research data, independent / self-serve review or synthesis of insights, dissemination of research work, and general reduction of duplicative efforts.

 ### 43. An Invaluable Tool for Structuring User Feedback

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thiago M. | Product and Design Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

We’ve been using Dovetail at Catarse during a critical redesign of our crowdfunding platform, and it’s been an invaluable tool. With a large, active user base, gathering and making sense of feedback could have easily become overwhelming. Dovetail streamlined the process, helping us structure input efficiently and focus on the most impactful improvements. It’s played a crucial role in shaping the direction of our platform’s evolution.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Honestly, we don’t have anything we dislike about Dovetail. If we had to complain about something, it’s that we wish we had discovered it sooner! It’s made such a positive impact on our workflow that imagining how we managed without it feels like a distant memory.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We’ve been using Dovetail to collect, organize, and analyze all our user interviews. Previously, managing interviews and feedback was time-consuming, but now we just upload the video, and Dovetail handles the transcription. Its AI-powered features help us quickly understand key feedback points. Recently, we connected Dovetail directly to our Zendesk, giving us real-time insights and streamlining the process even further.

 ### 44. Better than similar premium tools for automatic transcription

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nino R. | Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail is the best platform for transcribing audio files. I used it to transcribe five audio files totaling 450 minutes while evaluating audio and Zoom videos for my bachelor’s thesis. The audios were in German. In my search for the fastest and most helpful transcription tool, I tried multiple paid platforms. However, I found that Dovetail, which is free, offered much better quality and was easier to work with than any of the premium tools. I transcribed and revised all my transcriptions using Dovetail.
Not only was its automatic transcription superior to others, but it was also the best tool to work with due to its simple and comfortable design. I am more than thankful! I love this tool and will recommend it to everyone.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Of course, it would be great if the tool didn’t need any revision of the transcription. However, even I found it hard to understand some speakers, so it’s probably unrealistic to expect a tool to transcribe with 100% accuracy. So I found nothing to dislike about Dovetail. It’s a tool you can count on.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped me to transcribe audio files.

 ### 45. A 3D way to collect, organize, and analyze your customer research!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vesna M. | Conversion Copywriter & Messaging Strategist, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I don't even know where to start — there's so much to love. But the biggest a-ha moment for me was that with each project, I don't have to have my "system" or SOP all figured out at the beginning.

Here's what I mean by that:

As the project evolves and patterns start to emerge, you can make Dovetail morph to your needs!

In contrast to spreadsheets — which are so tedious to manipulate after the fact — Dovetail lets you adjust your entire framework as you go along.

This is AWESOME.

Why?

Because with every research project, you simply can't predict the patterns you're going to see. Duh! And Dovetail helps you adapt and tweak things along the way (e.g., merging tags and tag categories, adding new cateogores, moving tags between categores, you name it).

It allows my process to be both organic and extremely organized.

The second thing I love about Dovetail is that it's not limited to just video content. So you can really pool all kinds of channels, sources, mediums, files into your project and tag things the same way across the board.

The third, and arguably, the best thing about Dovetail is you have countless ways of "viewing" your research. The ability to see things as a board, a canvas, or a table is awesome. The flexibility allows you to view your research in the most meaningful way at that point in time. And that's always going to be different for each project or phase of the project!

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Right now the only place I'd love to see some improvement is in the AI capabilities.

There are some "Magic" features, as Dovetail calls them, but the outputs are usable maybe 50% of the time. I would love to see more of a ChatGPT-style capability where I could ask AI to give me richer, more accurate, more comprehensive outputs based on content I ask it to include.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When it comes to qualitative customer research, if you're using spreadsheets, even the most methodical research can feel messy and tedious. Dovetail makes it fun, intuitive, and meaningful. It makes interacting with the research less daunting and more energizing.

Research used to feel like it had a dead end — in the sense that I had to organize it from the get-go with a specific deliverable in mind. Going back to that research later, to look for a different set of insights, meant reorganizing the whole thing, because it was so 2D!

But with Dovetail, I can come back to the same data from multiple angles. Basically, it allows me to easily repurpose and reuse existing research because it gives me so many ways of looking at it.

 ### 46. More time to use my research than just analysing it!!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jess K. | Senior Product Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail feels like my research superpower. I easily raved about Dovetail pre-magic AI features because it was still so easy and powerful for helping me take my interviews through documentation and analysing for key insights + sharing and empowering my team with that information. And now, with new magic (AI) capabilities and where I think they are going next with the product, I am not only raving, but I am full fan-girl!!! It's hard to summarise in a few sentences! Now I can import an interview recording, click a few buttons and have summaries, highlights (using my custom tags) and shareable insights. What took me days now takes me minutes and I have more time to focus on using my research than analysing it. Getting started is also a piece of cake because they have templates you can use straight out the box and I use the google integration to quickly pull in my interviews after a google meet recording. I use Dovetail daily and it's become a staple resource from our Founders to our software engineers.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Sometimes the transcribing works really well and other times it's a bit off and combines phrases from multiple speakers together in a single block. It's never been a deal breaker though because the rest of the product is so good.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail helps me quickly document, analyse, synthesise and share customer research. With Dovetail, we have a esy to manage research repository that is a core and central resource for our entire business. With Dovetail, my whole business is leading with customer insight and making decisions based on research.

 ### 47. Dovetail is a game changer for field research!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail saves me a TON of time & energy daily, by offering AI/NLP powered transcriptions of all my research interviews. It allows our enterprise organization to maintain a "central brain" for research data - democratizing information and making insights accessible across a global organization. It's incredibly easy to get started - and free for securely publishing + collaborating on feedback, internally. Their customer support is prompt and effective. And it seamlessly integrates with services we use like Google for effective collaboration.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

One challenge we've experienced is that the AI/NLP can be "too good" - and the automation of ML generated summarization can lead to laziness on the part of interviewers, when it comes to tagging content. You've got to stay on top of your users to prevent "garbage in, garbage out"!

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail is enabling me to conduct research - online via Zoom and Google Meet, or using a GoPro in the field – hands free. It's the ultimate note-taking co-pilot, allowing em to focus on engaging with my subjects rather that trying to constantly hand write-or-type notes.

 ### 48. A Force Multiplier that Saves Costs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Using Dovetail was simple to get started with as the onboarding workflow is very well documented and transparent. The platform was extremely easy to get integrated into your research operations process and we quickly began using it on all projects that needed analysis work. Dovetail allowed us to move our UX Research war room style approach into the cloud while remaining highly collaborative amongst the team. When the platform added its AI feature set, we were able to better utitlize our most senior resources thanks to the offloading of the more tactical tasks of research analysis and allowing our researchers to focus much more on the interpretation of the results that were highlighted by the tool. The platform allows us to multiple the effect of each researcher we have by providing them with the toolset that allows them to focus on the most impactful and important parts of their skillset.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

One of the challenges that we have had with Dovetail is in finding a reusable configuration of the platform for an organization like ours. We have often desired deeper controls on a client experience layer. The platform feels as if it has a few hurdles that stand in the way of being a great experience for organizations that do research work on behalf of many different clients instead of a select few.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem Dovetail solves for us is the analysis of research work. We reap two prime benefits from using the platform, transparency and force multiplication. The machine assisted analysis allows our researchers to dedicate more time to intrepreting insights instead of cataloguing for later interpretation. Another problem the platform solves for us is having a referencable repositiory of user data for our clients, we are then able to extract more value out of each round of research by making the data available in perpituity for later emergent questions it may answer.

 ### 49. Wonderful functionality and updates

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

I like the automatic transcriptions of user interview videos. The transcripts are usually highly accurate to what the user is saying. Even if they are not, you have the ability to easily change what the transcript says.

I also like their Tagging feature - the way you're easily able to use Tags you already created or create a new one right there on the spot. The Tags also keep a running count of how many times they have been used which is helpful for determining where there might be issues in your interface or what problems users are facing. Having the ability to apply more than one Tag to any content is helful too.

Customer support is fantastic too!! The Slack Community (if your org lets you access Slack) is a great resource.

Lastly, the fact that they are continually updating the platform is great!! Always using the newest designs and technology to make the platform even easier to use.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

There's really not much to dislike about Dovetail.

If I had to pick one thing, I would say that because the system is so flexible and you're able to use it for anything, there is almost a lack of ... guard rails or guideance for how to set up your proejcts, etc. Like with MS Word, you know what to put in a table or into a paragraph. But with Dovetail, since it is SO open and flexible, it is almost too open. If that makes sense.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Dovetail as both an insights engine (to help identify issues with our website) and as a research repository (to have one central location where all of our data and insights are stored). Dovetail is great at both of these tasks/purposes/solutions.

 ### 50. A powerful tool for streamlining user research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Danielle L. | Product Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Dovetail?**

Dovetail simplifies the process of organising and analysing user research. Whether you're running usability tests, interviews, or surveys, you can configure projects to suit your specific research needs. The transcription, tagging, and automatic summarisation, saves researchers an immense amount of time by speeding up data processing. While the automated highlight grouping feature makes it fast to pull out key insights and identify patterns across projects.

The platform is great for sharing research with the wider business, in particular the highlight reels are easy to put together and share, bringing user feedback to everyone, not just the research team.

**What do you dislike about Dovetail?**

Having more customisable ways to present insights could be useful to enhance the overall experience and allow researchers to better tailor findings for different audiences and business needs.

**What problems is Dovetail solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dovetail helps us speed up our research and distribute findings across the business, saving time for both researchers and stakeholders.
