## Abaqus Reviews
  ### 1. Advanced solver for implicit/explicit analysis

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mariusz K. | Senior Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

Compared to other FEA solvers, it’s easier to read the input file, and I like being able to use defined names instead of numbers (as in the Nastran family of solvers). Very helpful is the nearly full integration between explicit and implicit solvers.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

Preprocessor: Despite its capabilities, it’s very difficult to work with. Many options can’t be read from the solver input file because they aren’t supported. So, to preprocess models, you need a good preprocessor

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

If you need to run implicit and explicit analysis from one environment, this is the solver you need. That said, competitors are developing fast, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the alternatives.

  ### 2. Accurate Nonlinear Results and a Logical Debugging Experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pavankumar T. | Lead stress engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

Abaqus provides accurate results for nonlinear problems, and the debugging process is very logical, which I like the most.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

It’s a little complex for new users, and it usually comes with a high cost and requires substantial computing resources.

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Abaqus can solve linear and non-linear static problems, as well as linear dynamic analyses, for a model. This allows me to evaluate the model’s structural and modal behaviour, which helps in improving the design.

  ### 3. Easy 2D Tet & Hex Meshing, Excellent for Bolted Joint Analysis

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sunil s. | Senior Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

What i have felt is like its very easy to do 2d tet meshing and hex mesh using abaqus.
Coming to simulation its the best for bolted joint analysis and its quite easy to update the BC in .inp file.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

The UI can be made more user friendly. I will say there nothig to dislike about abaqus.

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In my research, Abaqus plays a critical role in accurately simulating real-world mechanical behavior under realistic loading and boundary conditions.
All my bolted joint and bladed disc analysis I solve in abaqus.

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

It was easy to learn the GUI. Many tutorials and documents are available to model complicated materials and physical conditions even in multiphysical and explicit dynamics problems.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

Once I modeled a stamping process of a metal blank with punch tool and I would like to see the stress distribution and deformation on the punch. However the punch had to be modeled as a rigid part.

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been solving Metal forming processes mostly such as rollforming, rollbending, flanging etc. I had chance to compare it with Ls-Dyna and Ansys Apdl. Abaqus has more user friendly interface.

I personally benefited for the prediction of the sheet metal behavior in sheet metal forming analysis.

  ### 8. A decent software with lots of functionalities

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cherian J. | Facade Structural Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

Abaqus is a multipurpose software with a very excellent capability for structural analysis, finite element modeling and analysis, and most importantly non-linear analysis. It's also the best value-for-money program considering its capabilities. Another best part about Abaqus is , it has an inbuilt python program shell. That is , if you start recording it will automatically write the equivalent python script for your model. So if you want to modified or automate your work flow, its super easy.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

The user interface is a bit boring. Also the flexibility of the output files to read in other finite element programs is poor. Another issue I found is the lack of study materials. ie, if you get stuck while modeling / analyzing, it's difficult to pull out the exact reason and rectify the issue by a google search as we do for other software.

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I did FSI problems ( Fluid structure Interaction ) . I modeled the sloshing analysis of a propellent tank with fuel in it for my project in my master of structural engineering thesis. Unlike Dytran and Nastran which require high computing power, Abaqus can run and return you an accurate results in any decent Latops.

  ### 9. It was quite good experience learning and using it for solving real problems

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sachin A. | Senior Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

Physics can be captured with provided options. It is simpler to use than other software, and we need not switch between various interfaces for a model, meshing and solving. Abundant training materials are available.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

Though the user interface is simple, it is not modern. Also, the license cost is relatively high compared to other tools. which may be one of the primary reasons why people are looking for alternatives.

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it to solve static problems. as well as I have used it for crack propagation and fatigue life determination issues. I have also used it for dynamic problems.

  ### 10. Abaqus from the perspective of a student

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Aviation & Aerospace | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2022

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

The best thing about Abaqus, from the perspective of someone like me, is that all the modules that make up the simulation are listed for you on the left side of the screen. This means that it is very simple for someone to find out where they have gone wrong, unlike other more complicated programs.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

The most annoying part about Abaqus is its limited meshing capabilities. Changing the mesh is very long and tedious, and sometimes your computer won't have enough processing power for more advanced tasks. Ansys, for example, has an entire module dedicated to customizing the mess, and it is very detailed and much easier to use/understand, at least for me. I also dislike how limited the program is in generating a 3D object. I usually designed the object in a program like SOLIDWORKS and then imported it to Abaqus. It's an unnecessary hassle that could be solved by having the tools available in SOLIDWORKS imported into Abaqus. The same company makes both after all.

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps solve FEA (Finite Element Analysis) through the raw computing power of modern-day devices. Solving these problems by hand is tedious and sometimes impossible as the matrices get so big and disgusting. The program also helps display the object before and after it's deformities have been applied. The problem can be customized to my liking as well as animated and color-coded to help deliver a more understandable answer.

  ### 11. A powerful CAE software

The workflow of Abaqus is so straightforward. The material library is enormous; there are many predefined material models. Solvers are strong and allow users to adjust many parameters.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

Error messages are long and complicated to access. Fearture (edge, surface, vertice) numbering is not consistent between versions. Sometime license server stucks.

Quasi-static mechanical simulation for durability analysis, Explicit dynamics for metal cutting simulation...
Abaqus helps me obtain calculation results that are close to the experiment.

**Reviewed by:** Engr. Ibrahim O. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2020

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

I mostly like the simulation capability and the speed of creating very difficult elements in meshing while performing Finite Element Analysis. I have used this software in my bachelors program of engineering. It is very fast while creating geometry and running the simulations. I have also worked with Solidworks, which generally crashes as the file gets bigger. So it is best for simulations.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

Well, it is the best software but sometimes Graphical User Interface. I am sure they are working on it. I have also seen a trend tha mostly ABAQUS is used or academic purpose while software's like Solidworks, Ansys, CATIA they are used in the industry.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

The overall procedure of defining a problem is superb. Like what we do in ansys it's too Messy.
Here in abaqus we can edit everything in a single window which is not possible in ansys. I have tried simulation of wire drawing process and found that the difficulty level is more in ansys as compare to abaqus.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

Modeling software should be more powerful, and sometimes software didn't accept my .sldprt model while sometimes I'm not able to apply constraints on a sketch.

**Recommendations to others considering Abaqus:**

We can go for this simulation package, it has so many advantages over other softwares and also it's easier than other available packages.

  ### 39. Abaqus the best software for structure non-linear analysis

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carmine C. | Matlab: a very simple way to get an easier life, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

What I like most is the fact that with Abaqus you can really visualize digitally what in the real world happen from a point of view of structural analysis, so translating it in more powerful words, you can obtain results very similar to reality but with just simple commands

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

What I dislike most is the interface of the program, it is not very handy. Moreover the creation of the mesh is not so easy as it is for other software, in fact you have to cut the surface in a proper way in order to obtain a fine mesh with high quality elements

**Recommendations to others considering Abaqus:**

Before using Abaqus please give a read to the manuel at least for the most common commands, in order to understand well also the bulk file you create with the graphic interface. The knowledge is not essential but sometimes when you have to do some changes in your model, it is easier to use the bulk file and so the editor softare (block note, notepad...)

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving non-linear structur analys for several type of structure such as composite, sandwich panels, beams, plates and so on. It is possible to analyse also more complex structure such as the aeronautical ones which are the main field I work in.
It is very useful also for the studying of vibration modes, which are used also for understading if the model has been created well ( if coincident nodes, elements, curves...are merged)

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

FEMs are generally great on problems with built-in variational principles. For some fully non-linear and non-divergence form problems, FEMs are still improving. On the other hand, FEMs heavily relied on numerical integration, where quadrature rules some times cause headaches.
From programming point of view, FEMs are usually harder to program. The handling of mesh and the numerical integrations usually require extra work.

**Recommendations to others considering Abaqus:**

Abaqus/Explicit is the general-purpose finite element program that employs explicit integration scheme to solve highly nonlinear systems with many complex contacts under transient loads.

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Linear and nonlinear analysis

  ### 44. Great software for nonlinear an linear analyses

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hesam M. | Lecturer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

Meshing features is very user friendly
Offer different options for setting up the problem as well as boundary conditions
You can have user-defined material models implemented in the software.
Gives you the ability to perform fluid-solid interaction
I used the software o model the shear stresses on a heart valve for BHV replacement. It was very effective in solving problems where you face large deformations

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

Boundary conditions might be confusing
I sometimes had problems for visualization of the results. It was sometimes hard to define a plane or point to see the results.
It is hard to learn compared to some other FEA software so need you to send more time at first.
The errors can be confusing and I sometimes got lost when i looked for issues in online forums.

**Recommendations to others considering Abaqus:**

If you are interested in implementing user defined materials, it is a great software.
It might look a bit hard to learn in the beginning, but when you are familiar with that, it brings lots of fantastic features to the table.
The good thing is that you can fluid-solid interaction with Abaqus which is a great addition on top of nonlinear FEA

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

nonlinear FEA problems such as crash and blast simulations
Biomechanics problems such as cardiovascular analyses on aneurysms or heart valves.
I found that especially in the case of cardiovascular problems, it is really necessary to be able to use user-defined materials and Abaqus is strong in that.

  ### 45. Great CAE software with a steep learning curve

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Abaqus?**

Abaqus is great in terms of the options available for computer-aided finite element analysis and the various modules (mechanical, thermal, vibration, fluid, acoustic etc.). The new topology optimization tool TOSCA is great. The level of control available in setting up a model and analyzing is much better than other commercial softwares.

**What do you dislike about Abaqus?**

The learning curve is steep! It’ll take a while to figure out the various options and setup a model for analysis. The manual is helpful but new users will still have to do their own Google / YouTube search to learn the software. The options for 3D modeling are minimal and makes the process tedious!

**Recommendations to others considering Abaqus:**

Do not look to ABAQUS for your 3D modeling needs - you’d be better off getting an interface module to import geometry from another software like Solidworks. It’s a great software for finite element analysis and has a number of customization options for that. If you’d rather have quick results, it’s better to go with another commercial CAE software but if you have the time to play around with various options, the results you get out of Abaqus will be unmatched.

**What problems is Abaqus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Non-linear finite element analysis and simulation of interaction between multiple bodies

  ### 46. One Solution for all your FEA Needs!!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars
