Whenever I need to refresh connection to the server (it is time limited), I have to shut down the Developer completely and restart it.

What problems is SQL Developer solving and how is that benefiting you?

Creating and maintaining a database of clinical and research database for a department in a large hospital system.

Migration of legacy data from old databases (Access, Excel, etc.)

Legacy data validation.

Data export scripts to a 3rd party.

What do you like best about SQL Developer?

Its free! It provides interface for all PL SQL modules, Java procedures, HTML, XML etc. It supports all developer operations like create tables, triggers, packages etc and also DBA features like snapshots, RMAN etc. Oracle SQL developer can be integrated with Oracle APEX! Its very useful for PL SQL Unit testing. The other nice feature is we can see multiple datagrids at a time for multiple queries ran in a query window.

The main advantage with SQL Developer from Toad is its free.

What do you dislike about SQL Developer?

Debugging and exception handling features are better handled in toad for PL SQL packages. Sometimes GUI gets slower and not responding. Some of the other databases integration may be painful! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering SQL Developer:

This is a better software in the market and as it is free do not compare with some robust licensed software. Its free and its great! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
