Having little prior experience with survey creation, I was unfamiliar with tools to do so. From the moment I signed up for a free Sogolytics trial account, the entire experience flowed with ease. I quickly found the survey builder, and the transition from tire-kicking to building out my envisioned survey was so straightforward that I had a first draft of my entire survey before I realized that I wasn’t tire-kicking any more! My demands of the survey builder for my survey were modest, needing to tap only a fraction of Sogolytics’ facilities. Beyond what I used I could see a vast construction kit of rich flexible primitives that could easily build a wide variety of survey types. I felt a bit like a kid in a candy store, starting to wonder what other surveys I could create! The facilities to cover and distribute surveys were equally rich and flexible, and I was able to easily preview the draft survey with a few reviewers and tweak the survey in response to their feedback. I’ve now fielded my survey and, with responses coming in, utilizing the tracking and analytic side of the Sogolytics platform which unsurprisingly are also robust and powerful. Needless to say I am totally sold on Sogolytics and have recommended to my organization Momentum for Men (www.momentumformen.org) that we adopt Sogolytics as our platform for all future surveys. To further burnish their halo, Sogolytics even offers a free account to non-profits like us to make it easy on our slim pocketbook! I can unhesitatingly recommend Sogolytics to any organization, small or large, rich or penny-pinching. We have been using it for years. On the few occasions when we've had to contact support, we have always received prompt responses. We switched to Sogolytics after using a competitor for a short period of time. When we contacted the competitor for support, we just never received a response. I appreciate Sogolytics responsiveness. They also offer a nonprofit license, which is very helpful to us. **What do you dislike about Sogolytics?** It can be frustrating when the nonprofit license expires each year without any notification. We usually only know when it has expired if we try to send out a survey and receive an error message. Having to reach out to Sogolytics to extend the license when we really need to send out a survey can be frustrating. We continue to be impressed by the ability to produce our surveys in a variety of formats whether it be a targeted mailshot or embedding into our website along with other options. We currently supply our participants with a direct hyperlink to our various forms and questionnaires along with using the embedded feature for when we want to capture information from people visiting our website or for when we run a conference. We also really like the way the system is being constantly updated with new features and support is excellent with them replying to any emails we have sent them within the hour if not within minutes of being sent. Gives us great confidence in this platform! I was using Google Forms for my pilot and am appreciating all of the design features available in SoGoSurvey. The only thing I was missing with the free version was the matrix-type questions. I was able to solve this by using something they call a multiple drop down. I actually like this format better because sometimes with a matrix question, you can’t see the scale options when you get to the last question in the matrix. The multiple drop down format ensures that the survey taker can always see all of the choices easily. Set up was very intuitive. I appreciated all of the embedded help text. I only needed to Google one thing, how to change the character limits on the text boxes for the open-ended responses. **What do you dislike about Sogolytics?** I would like to use the branching/logic options, but this currently isn’t available with the free version. I’m hoping it will be available with the free student account, which I am hoping to be able to upgrade to with this review. I will keep everyone posted! Once I get everything set up, I hope to start collecting data soon! Then I will be able to comment on the data analysis features. I am mainly looking to use descriptive statistics in my analysis. **What problems is Sogolytics solving and how is that benefiting you?** So far, I haven't run into any major problems. I definitely recommend checking SoGoSurvey out if you are a student looking to conduct survey research. Even though I was not able to use branching/logic, there were quite a lot of features available on the free version that you would need to pay for with other tools. For example, it allows you to have more than 10 questions (currently the limit on SurveyMonkey). It also seems you can export your data to Word (no .csv or spreadsheet), but most other survey tools don’t allow you to export your data at all. ### 25. That really gives you great flexibility in survey designing. You can save any question into a "bank" and then easily recall and insert it any survey. We had to add the logo to our school's webpage and write a comment on social media referring the software to get a 1 year license. I introduced SoGo Survey to a few of my students and they all quickly learned how to use it and send a questionnaire out to all 600+ students from our school. We used Google Forms before, but this is professional and the most important thing for us was that we can add e-mail addresses of recipients and that every recipient has only one vote.
