**Reviewed Date:** June 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Phonic is game-changer for surveys. The use of voice responses instead of text has genuinely resulted in 3x longer and 2x descriptive feedback from respondents. Phonic greatly improved our survey experience and provided valuable insights for decision-making.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I have no dislike for Phonic. The innovative survey platform has exceeded our expectations and provided us with unique capabilities to gather feedbacks. I would highly recommended Phonic.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This benefits us by providing deeper insights, saving time in research efforts and helping us to understand user sentiments more accurately. It solves the problem of gathering more detailed feedback through voice and video survey responses.

  ### 3. phonic is amazing tool for research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Insia A. | Research Assistant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Phonic is very easy to use and store audios. Moreover it also provides with audio transcripts which is also a great help

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Phonic gets too slow at times to load audios

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used it for my undergraduate thesis. It was integrated with Qualtrics making data retrieval easier

  ### 4. Research Project on Speech and Anxiety

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Siddhanth P. | Creative Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I love Phonic's ability to hold large corpuses of voice recordings and the fact that it can automatically generate transcripts for export, which makes it easy to analyze it through another platform like the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count software. I appreciate also that it has extensive features for survey logic like other platforms while simultaneously allowing for voice recording. Phonic's platform is easy to use and intuitive, and I was easily able to jump right in to begin my research.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I dislike that sometimes Phonic glitches when I try and delete something, flipping through different voice submissions before letting me delete the one I wanted to. The transcription could also use some work to improve and capture spoken words moe accurately in text. Also, during export to a CSV file, the data sometimes changes from its original state in the website, so one needs to watch out for it.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

Use Phonic! Its platform is intuitive in its design and powerful in its range of functionality. It can automatically generate transcripts and has basic sentiment analysis.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Phonic, I am able to analyze the patterns in people's voices and connect them with people's anxiety levels. This sort of feature with a survey based on voie recording is not available on any other platform at such a high-quality, so Phonic is fulfilling a necessary void. This is helping to develop a diagnostic tool for anxiety disorders more accessible than ever. I have realized the benefits of Phonic in this research and hope to continue employing it in the future.

  ### 5. Simple yet powerful software that makes collecting information and feedback so easy.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lia B. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Love how easy it is to create reports with the results from the survey. They look good and are meaningful.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I hope that Phonic provides more flexibility in formatting surveys. For example, bolding text, changing fonts, etc. These are little things that help surveys stand out. Company brand and colors are important for consistency in communicating with clients.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

Look at the core of Phonic and the audio component. Don't worry about the formatting options as you want to make data collection easy for your target audience.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm using Phonic to get a pulse on how owners think and feel about creating community in a mid-sized building which is a cooperative. Also using Phonic for gathering insights about working remotely and to to get reviews from guests who have stayed in vacation rentals.

**Official Response from David Ferris:**

> Hey Lia, thanks for your feedback!

We've worked to make Phonic survey themes look great out of the box, but as you mentioned many users want even further customization. At the moment premium users can edit both the background color and upload custom branded images, and further customization is possible with custom HTML.

You can see how to do this using the doc linked below.

  ### 6. A great tool for user testing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gina Lynn K. | Graduate student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I was looking for a tool that would easily and quickly allow users to submit a large number of short audio files. Phonic has proven to be an excellent tool for this purpose and my test users reported being very happy with the process.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

The audio quality with submission via phone was of poor quality and I had to request users to resubmit their audio clips using a laptop or desktop. I would also like to give users the option to submit survey answers via text response OR audio, but it seems at the moment that including both requires them to make submissions through both formats.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

Phonic has many features that seem to make it an ideal tool for user testing. The instant record function can be used for authentic think-aloud user testing without having to be synchronous

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Phonic has saved my users a lot of time to submit audio clips and made it easier for me to use them on the backend because they are all consolidated in one place.

  ### 7. A great tool for collecting recorded sociolinguistic data!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Javier L. | Graduate Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I love that Phonic allows me to prepare an online survey, including pictures and customizing the design exactly as I want it in straightforward steps. It is a great user-friendly tool!

I engage in sociolinguistic research, and the pandemic had a considerable impact on the ways I collect data. I could not interview participants face-to-face, and that was a huge problem. With Phonic I can do that, and what's even better, I can also avoid the observer's paradox by having participants reply to the survey in a time of their choosing, without seeing an unfamiliar face in front of them, and while they're in the comfort of their own home. It's just fantastic.

Moreover, the staff at Phonic are great at getting back to you whenever you have a question in a matter of minutes! It is a great tool, and I only wish I had come across it earlier.

For all these reasons, I strongly recommend Phonic to anybody looking to collect oral data online. I intend to continue using Phonic even after the pandemic is over.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

The only criticism I have is that it could be more convenient to have some alternative subscription plans. A 3-month, or even a 6-month, plans could be great in preparation for data collection.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main issue I'm solving is the limitations to in-person data collection imposed during by the pandemic.

  ### 8. great experience, they helped us out a lot

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mikis D. | Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

quick response, flexible towards our needs and very friendly. We had a very bad experience with another provider who claimed that they could do anything but their service turned out horrible. Phonic was always fair in what they were able to offer and even outdelivered on our expectations

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

nothing so far, it was a great experience. We always received a quick and accurate answer, even when it wasn't even their fault that there was an issue.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

as long as it's a small startup, they are able to provide tailor-made solutions. I hope this doesn't change when they scale up.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we're conducting a survey with phsyicians where they answer verbally. Phonic does sentiment analysis & provides a flatfile in our desired format

  ### 9. Phonic is something to Phone Home about

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan H. | Principal Product Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Phonic offers easy account creation (trial), easy templates to use, segmented product by use case (Product vs HR), and easy-to-navigate UI.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I want to route users to specific landing pages based on their NPS response (HubSpot does this).

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

Try the free plan and play with it, super easy.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

User feedback

  ### 10. Helps me in collecting audio data for Tiny Machine Learning purpose

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ahmad Dziaul A. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I used phonic for a survey of audio data collection, conducted for three months as part of my final year project. It can save in WAV type file, which is needed in the machine learning training process. Phonic really helps me in doing the survey.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I had to download each audio data individually from a respondent (I had 40 to 60 questions for each respondent). I wish it could download all the audio answers for each respondent for easy data management. It took me a long time to download the 40-60 responses. If I use the bulk media download, it will download all the respondents' data of the survey with random names generated in a file, which is a mess.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I asked the respondent to read selected keywords for the voice recognition application.

  ### 11. Worked swell for online think aloud study!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I needed to be able to record audio from online research participants in real-time, especially when the pandemic shut down research labs and public gatherings. Phonic.ai made it work seamlessly! The paper with the results can be found here: researchgate.net/publication/341131477

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Everything that I disliked was promptly fixed with feature updates and the like—and these fixes applied to data that I have already gathered, making them have retroactive benefits. So I can't really think of any current complaints.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

If you have a question or issue, contact the Phonic team. They were able to explain or fix things in a very timely manner.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to run audio- and video-based experiments at scale—it's been nearly impossible for years until Phonic.

Collecting audio from participants in person takes many workers with recording devices and lots and lots of time.

Recording 100 participants too most of a semester for me and my research assistants.

With Phonic, getting 100 participants' audio took one afternoon! And I didn't even have to get up from my desk!

  ### 12. Excellent customer service and ability to use videos in surveys!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hilary M. | Science Advisor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

The Phonic.ai team were very responsive to our needs & even added features that we requested. The ability to add videos to your surveys (survey content and responses) provides another angle to data that is not possible in other survey platforms.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Limits to the survey quota and pretty pricey.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to obtain qualitative data in the form of video responses is amazing. We work with children and it is hard to capture their qualitative feedback from text responses, so videos are wonderful and include transcription (with high accuracy).

  ### 13. Phonic - The best way to make an online survey

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bridget P. | Senior High Mathematics Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

The reason I decided to use Phonic was because I wanted a survey site that let me ask audio and text questions on the same survey. Phonic made this possible, but even more than that, they made it extremely convenient!

Navigability - I was able to make the exact survey I wanted in about 20 minutes using Phonic. The creation of the survey made sense and was laid-out well. I could see possible question types, add a subtitle, edit my questions, reorganize the order of questions and find the link to share the survey extremely easily. I also could clearly see the amount of survey results, where to download an excel sheet of the results, and the list of individual responses.

Variety of question-types - Phonic has a lot of options for question types, including audio, audio and text, audio and slider, upload a doc, video recording, selection, short answer, long answer, slider, and dropdown. Each question type also has more adjustable settings to go along with it, such as required or optional, timed, and add media. You can preview each question as you make it or preview the whole survey when you're done with the draft.

Layout of the responses- I really appreciated that Phonic gives metrics on the completion level of surveys, the average time spent, the dates that the majority of surveys were taken, and the device used. Another positive was being able to see the list of individual respondents at the same time as viewing one response. This made it easy to jump between responses.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

One thing I noticed is that the audio transcription can have small inaccuracies depending on if a respondent is breathing strangely. For example, one student was giggling as she spoke so instead of transcribing it as "I would like to be called [Name] " , Phonic wrote "I would like to be God [Name]", which was pretty funny. But I would assume that typically participants aren't laughing when they're being surveyed and that was about the only error I found out of 100+ respondents.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

I would say you can always make a test survey by using the free version, and then decide from there! Only remember that you can only make 3 surveys and have 50 respondents so once you've see how nice Phonic is, probably go for premium. For a research study, the price is definitely reasonable.

I have some undergraduate research experience and I would say Phonic would work extremely well for case studies especially if you aren't able to be in-person. It has an option to add a signature of consent at the start of the survey which is super convenient. Having the built-in transcription ability makes it a lot easier than trying to hand-transcribe any interviews and you won't need a separate transcription tool.

It also would work really well as an accessible way to test students, since there's an audio response option. So any professors trying to get spoken responses on tests for online classes, this is for you! If I knew any foreign language professors, I would send them the link to Phonic personally.

For other k-12 teachers, Phonic is super nice for surveys and would work well for assessments too, but I would show it to your school and ask them to pay for the account instead of doing it personally.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am currently teaching virtually and I wanted a way for students to record their names (so I could pronounce them properly) without having to video record themselves. Having a survey site that allowed them to answer some questions with text and some with audio was perfect for a simple "getting to know you" survey at the start of this semester.

In addition to hearing how students' names sound, I also used the long-text response option to ask students questions like "what is one specific thing you're going to do differently this semester?", "what are some of your interests?", and "what are two things you want your teacher to know about you?". This gave students the ability to type longer responses and put some thought into what they were saying.

The multiple section also came in handy because I wanted to get a sense of how student's technology situation was currently. This let me find out if students had a working mike, experienced internet issues, used a phone or a laptop, or had a lot of distractions at home.

Having the ability to make each question required before students could move on to the next and also showing the progress bar while taking the survey helped me. Students had to answer each question which meant I didn't have anyone just turn in a blank form, but I liked they were able to see how many more questions there were to go.

  ### 14. Perfect qualitative research tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michiel V. | Sr. Market research consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Automatic audio processing of open ended questions allows for fast and elaborate responses. High flexibility in design, interactivity and good looks greatly help UX

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Project-specific glossary (brand names) for AI transcription, as well as some more quant question type options would be appreciated

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

If you are looking to perform solid qualitative research with the ease of a quantitative survey tool

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The tool allows for providing direct qualitative feedback loops to our clients. Something we weren't able to provide before.

  ### 15. Great platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I like the flexible API as well as the easy to use interface for constructing questions. I primarily used the audio recording features. I happened upon Phonic after trying to roll my own with JATOS + JS and running into cross-platform and session state issues.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

When I used Phonic each recording uploaded through the API counted as an entire survey submission. I was able to work out lee-way on the credits but this means that the API isn't quite a first class citizen in terms of account credits. This could have been changed now, though.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cross-platform audio survey for research experiments.

  ### 16. Phonic was very helpful as a method of a virtual survey. The interface is accessible to all ages.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Haley T. | Graduate Fellow, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I liked that there was the option for multiple medias when asking a question to participants.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

The download process was a little bit confusing. The audio transcript also was not that accurate.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed a way to virtually survey 2nd grade students. Phonic allowed me to do this (even with the pandemic). What was key about this format of a survey was that the students could vocally respond. There are limitations with second graders and responses (not all can read/write at the same level) but this helped solve that issue because everything was formatted via audio.

  ### 17. Great online survey tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Akiri S. | Doctoral Candidate, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I used phonic for a survey I conducted last year as part of my research work. Originally, we were meant to carry out interviews but due to COVID-19 research restrictions we could not. However, with Phonic we were able to achieve something similar to an interview using their voice feature. Users could choose voice or text input! Significant to me was the team's commitment to helping their users. They were very hands-on in tailoring some features to meet our needs( someone will always get back to you!). Also, because we were able to share the link broadly and got more feedback than we anticipated, the dataset was huge. But phonic made data analysis very easy, they provided some automated data analysis features and charts. Last, the NL recognition is near good. Data cleaning was not hell.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Sentiment Analysis. Though, not so much of a problem if you are not reliant on it. It is subject to the challenges of sentiment analysis, difficulty of interpretation of context, sarcasm in text and so on.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

Definitely a step up from Qualtrics! Worth every dim!

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped me deploy a survey that was meant to be an interview. While I could not deliver the interview as initially designed, I was able to deploy something similar to a structured interview to my participants (I believe around 180 something)

  ### 18. Phonic is a cool audio feature for surveys and can be added to Qualtrics surveys.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Albin R. | Graduate Research Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

That it allows me to incorporate audio into university qualtrics surveys.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

That the phonic responses are not recorded if the user forgets to click the submit button in the qualtrics survey.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing users to expand on what they have to say via audio without necessarily having to type it all out.

  ### 19. Audio messages with a loud noise

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathalia S. | Onboarding Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

We subscribed to Phonic because of the possible audio answers. We are using it in our recruitment process so we can check the candidates' communication skills from the very beginning. It saves us a lot of time.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

The customer service support. I've sent an email about 2 different issues we are experiencing, I never hear back, and the issues are still happening.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are saving a lot of time on our recruitment process checking the candidate communication skills from the very beginning.

  ### 20. An order of magnitude better insights into customer feedback by using voice and video

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Easy to setup and create customized surveys using traditional, voice and video input. Users shared significantly more information when they spoke than with traditional typed/slider responses. Voice and video made it easy to gain significant insights and sentiments - something that typed responses couldn't provide. Phonic replaced the need to conduct time consuming and costly user interviews. This is a really great way to gain market and product insights without using traditional market survey approaches.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Some higher order features still not built out but the response to my requests have been quick. Phonic is continually updating and improving the UI and report outputs so I see this as a short term issue.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Customers are tired of traditional surveys. I am not sure if I am getting a valid answer. Phinic solves this by adding voice and vieo. I can now listen and identify how this person really feeels and they tell me 2 t o3 times more than if I asked for a text response. We have been able to gain insights into customer preferfences and choices that we could never have gained without costly and time consuming user groups and face-to-face interviews. During the current pandemic situation Phonic has allowed us to continue to get high quality user and customer input.

  ### 21. Great for academic research & great customer service!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shannon R. | Graduate Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I love how versatile Phonic is. I have been able to embed Phonic surveys and recorders into a Qualtrics survey for my research. It’s very easy to use and the Phonic documents lay everything out for you. The customer service is unparalleled! They respond to email so quickly, fix problems and troubleshoot code, and take suggestions seriously.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I wish there were more question types and options to customize question formats so that I didn’t need to embed Phonic into Qualtrics.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I’m able to record audio responses for sociophonetic research remotely, which allows me to reach a larger research participant base in less time!

  ### 22. Excellent evaluative method

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Salli W. | Evaluation Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Great to give people the option to speak their answers - feel more natural.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Can be confusing - a few respondents weren't sure what to do.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

Go for it.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Getting feedback from participants in a new scheme. Benefits are encouraging respondents reluctant to give information in a more traditional format.

  ### 23. Nice tool for audio analysis

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

1. Ease of use
2. Technical support
3. Accuracy

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Not dislike, but there is room for improvement for the dashboard design. Some buttons are difficult to find, and the design is not intuitive enough. I also wish that there could be ways to let users customize the analysis. It would also be good if Phonic can show the robustness of the analysis for citation purposes.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

Just try it.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm using it for academic research.

  ### 24. An Amazing Survey App

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James N. | Sales Rep, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I have used Phonic for sometime now and it is amazing in many ways. First, the tool is easy to use and comes with many survey features. It is effective in handling different types of data and survey

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

With Phonic, it is all about convenience and great survey features and I have had no issues with the tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

Phonic Has been working well and I cannot complain and thereby I recommend this amazing tool.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use the tool when it comes to collecting customer data and other general online surveys. The tool is very effective.

  ### 25. Great way to get more extensive survey responses

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Phonic makes it easy for people to give feedback (who wants to type?) and for me to see that feedback via transcription that is super accurate.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

No downside but the Qualtrics connection could be a little more intuitive for end users (where to click and what to do)

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am getting better data from a more diverse respondent group. This works much better than open items where people have to type responses.

  ### 26. The platform has lots of promise, but did not live up to expectations

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I love the premise of audio/video capture of responses, especially when I pilot remote surveys. The free transcription is a nice touch. I really appreciated the personal touch of the founding team.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I selected conditionality in programming my questionairre that would not save, and was ignored on execution.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Phonic's value prop seems to reflect the best understanding of my needs as a researcher who is remotely piloting a survey; to test the wording/order/structure of questions at scale.

  ### 27. Great for language research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I like how easy the user interface is and the question options offered to users. It is also great that it allows integration to other survey platforms such as Qualtrics.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I had to manually add JavaScript code in addition to the Qualtrics integration code to each of my Qualtrics question to be able to integrate Phonic.ai audio items to my existing Qualtrics. It was a bit time consuming and tedious.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

I definitely recommend Phonic.ai to fellow researchers who are looking for ways to collect audio responses. It makes it easy to gather such data without having to code.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am an applied linguist and for my research, I needed to elicit audio recordings from speakers, and Phonic.ai made it possible to do this via Qualtrics integration.

  ### 28. Software solution for language researcher

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I really like how easy it is to use. As a researcher, I can integrate it to Qualtrics.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I had to manually integrate each question to Qualtrics--Took a long time.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm collecting speech data from language learners

  ### 29. The Best Audio Survey Tool Out There

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Phonic is easy to set up and get started - it's very straightforward and simple. Within 10-15 minutes, you can have a full-blown survey ready to go. At our company, we used Phonic to elicit authentic language-use across several different languages to build mini corpora to ultimately help us develop a task-based curriculum.

Another notable plus: No login required to take a survey!

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

There was nothing that we particularly disliked other than my team never figured out how to utilize "Groups" and/or group surveys by category or ownership. However, this ended up not causing us any trouble since the interface in Phonic is smooth and easily navigable.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working for a company that specializes in delivering language instruction, we are always in need of eliciting samples of authentic languages and Phonic allows us to do this easily.

  ### 30. Potential Platform for Usability Testing

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

The design of the platform is simple and intuitive. I've used some other survey platforms like Quatrics and SurveyMonkey. I found similarities between Phonics and other survey platforms. This helps me to be able to set up a survey quickly. What attracted me to try Phonic is of course its ability to collect audio recordings, which is great for a usability study that usually requires the participants to think aloud. I was also aware of that there are some other formats of responses that Phonic supports. In my opinion, this increase the possibility for a wider variety of survey design. Unfortunately, I did not use Phonic to distribute my survey because I was limited by the 10 question quota of free account. But I was certainly impressed by Phonic and would love to give it try next time.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Should give free account users more question quotas.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

If you have the need of collecting audio and video data for a study, give Phonic a try. It supports audio transcription which can save you a lot of time.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was trying to set up a usability study using Phonic. The biggest benefits of using Phonic is that I can make the study completely self-completed. I don't need to schedule a time with a subject and moderate a session. Also, the auto-generated report will be super helpful. It will save me a lot time to transcribe the audio recordings as well.

  ### 31. Awesome for research!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Alternative Medicine | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I have been using Phonic for academic research and it has made my life much easier. Having a platform that includes audio, text and video is a game changer. It is also very aesthetically pleasing, and I love that I can customize the surveys to meet my survey needs, as well as the themes.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

My only complaint is that in the beginning I was a little confused because of all the features, but after playing around with it it got much easier!

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to use one platform for all my research surveys, since it does it all (video, audio, text). I also find that I am receiving more authentic data, and the analytics are very well done.

  ### 32. A good choice for researchers if you're in a pinch

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

The feature of including audio files and collecting audio files.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

No randomization feature. It is specially designed for marketing research and my aims were academic.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed to deploy a series of 10 20-question tasks in which participants transcribed speech samples. I was able to do so easily and to collect data safely.

  ### 33. Great for Research!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mary Kate S. | Work Study Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

The convenience and ease to collect participant data while conducting research and knowing that phonic is IRB approved! It makes research a lot easier!

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Besides the ability to easily download specific respondent files into mp3s, I have nothing negative to say.

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

I would highly recommend this program to anyone in the research community. Although it allows me to work specifically in my field of speech production, I would also recommend it for studies across many research fields as it is versatile!

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Without phonic, I would not have been able to conduct my research in dialectal variations due to the inability to collect speech samples in person

  ### 34. Elegant, reliable survey with survey video collection

**Reviewed by:** Mark L. | Volunteer Leader, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I was using the very small scale version and the billing management was a bit complex.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed to collect video responses from individuals during COVID isolation. Normally these individuals would gather in person and this gave a way to do it.

  ### 35. Powerful and intuitive platform to collect valuable asynchronous data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neel S. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

One thing that can be improved is the upload times for the audio/video responses

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used Phonic to gather data for projects surrounding the human-centered design process. The screen recording feature is helpful to study how participants interact with my prototype

  ### 36. Great way to evaluate candidates

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Phonic is as easy to set up as a Typeform. It's highly customizable, so allows you to update your surveys / tests as you receive user feedback.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Phonic is great; it's still an early company so doesn't have all the features I'd like (e.g. automatic email notifications), but it certainly solves my use case well.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're able to quickly evaluate candidates by having them take our voice tests, rather than spending 30 min with them on an interview first.

  ### 37. An excellent service capable of delivering exceptional results

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Nothing, I found that in terms of market research the Phonic platform is capable of solving many problems the user might have

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

One comparison I made was you can use it as a survey platform, but in reality Phonic provides many features that make it much more than that.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Only used it for testing purposes, have not used Phonic to solve real life problems as of today

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Easy to use. Capturing audio was simple.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

The documentation could be more clear. Some of my participants could not get Phonic to capture their audio. But it was a reduced set of participants

**Recommendations to others considering Phonic:**

My participants reported having issues completing the Qualtrics task that included the Phonic question. Not clear what caused the issue. I have both IPhone and Android users experiencing difficulties. Most participants could do the tasks.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used Phonic to capture the speech I need to complete a phonetics experiment.

  ### 40. Excellent software with great value

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

Love the flexibility - can do text OR audio OR video. Unlimited configurability. I also love the prettiness - I used to use another survey software who had terrible looking themes and very few customizations. I feel like the attractiveness of the surveys gets more people excited about participating in my studies.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

I wish I could upload a list of contacts to send my participants follow-up surveys.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm collecting more detailed open-ended responses.

I've found it very useful for qualitative research!

**What do you like best about Phonic?**

I appreciated that the team was willing to accommodate requests from users and that they were very easy to get in contact with.

**What do you dislike about Phonic?**

Understanding that I was using a free-trial, the 10 question limit for a survey was a bit limiting.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Phonic, rather than another system, allows me to have convenient access to participant results, and it is very much less confusing than other systems.

Try it - you might be delighted.

**What problems is Phonic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was able to collect data using spoken responses.
