I love using SolarWinds PaperTrail as a cloud-native, all-in-one log management and real-time monitoring solution. It acts as my central tool for managing log data from my entire tech stack, including cloud and on-prem servers, applications, network devices, databases, and third-party cloud services like Heroku and AWS. PaperTrail unifies all log types into a single, searchable interface, making it much easier to troubleshoot and monitor system health compared to fragmented tools. I appreciate its blazing-fast, intuitive search and live tail logging, which I consider the ultimate troubleshooting superpower. The search functionality is instant, even with weeks of log data, and doesn't require complex query languages. I enjoy the zero infrastructure overhead and effortless cross-stack log aggregation. The initial setup is another big strength, designed for speed and simplicity with no need for DevOps expertise or complex configurations. I also value how quickly PaperTrail provides solutions for quick bug fixes and complex incident investigations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I get frustrated with the lack of custom dashboards in PaperTrail. I can't combine log metrics with other operational data into a single view, which is really important for tracking overall system health. I also feel limited because there's no native aggregate analysis. I have to export data to Excel or a BI tool for trend analysis. Another issue is that PaperTrail doesn't natively parse structured log data, so I have to rely on keyword searches or external parsers. These areas could really use improvement.
