We migrated to MyCase in 2016. Now, in 2024, we still use their system to run our firm. We can really see how far the product has come. I really like the document management features like full-text searching capabilities, PDF conversion and electronic signatures right in the app, version control, and the now-seamless integration with MS Word. I appreciate their trust accounting features more than I can say - they were the first to offer true IOLTA accounting, and they keep getting better. I love that my virtual receptionist can log calls right into MyCase - an integration that really works well! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Their integrations with MS Office and Quickbooks can best be described as "messy" - they work, but they are hardly elegant. They eliminated their internal email client, but I still have to associate every single email with the case it goes to - there should be some automation, and the plug-in with the Outlook desktop app is painful to use. They STILL do not take advantage of MS365. They finally have more robust ToDo lists and docketing systems, but they are ineffecient and difficult to use, and that has made it nearly impossible to get staff buy-in. They still make it difficult to associate a contact with multiple cases. MyCase is over-dependent on integrations with other systems, many of which are just not that useful.
My personal pet peeve is that the Bar says that my business entity clients are THE client, not the individual owners, and MyCase staunchly refuses to regard the company as the client. It's a literal rule of professional conduct in every U.S. Jurisdiction, and it is inexcusable that after all this time I still can't run a proper conflict check on my CLIENTS because MyCase does not regard them as "clients." (they also refuse to acknowledge that transactional work is a thing, but I can live with that.)
Finally, we recently split up the firm, and we had tremendous difficulty with migrating from one instance of MyCase to a new instance of MyCase. Their support for this process was non-existent. We had to do a full backup, restore to the new instance, and then go through client-by-client and download their documents, then upload the documents to the new instance of MyCase. It was a nightmare. The case information did not all transfer correctly, and all connections between individual contacts and companies to their cases was lost. While their system allows you to do a "Download All" documents for a case, that feature does not work consistently. Not being able to backup EVERYTHING - documents and all - is a big damn deal, and when I find another system to replace MyCase, this will be why. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
