What I like most about Smokeball is how intuitive and efficient it is for day-to-day legal work and case management. The automatic time tracking and document automation save a significant amount of time and cut down on manual entry. I like the cloud-based functionality of Smokeball, which allows me to access all my files from anywhere, whether I'm at home or on the go using my Microsoft Surface. I can easily get on Smokeball and find all my files there, making it convenient to edit documents. I also appreciate its collaboration features, which let me share documents with my staff and collaborate on important tasks. The email tagging feature is pretty helpful; it lets me tag emails as they come into my inbox and associate them with specific matters. My biggest complaint about Smokeball is the billing functionality. There's no ability to run some basic reports that we need as a firm, like seeing how many hours have been billed to a specific client or matter in a given day. This lack of functionality is a big problem for us, and it feels like something that should be easy to implement, and I do not feel like Smokeball has been sufficiently responsive to our needs in this regard. Another issue is the mobile app. Its limited functionality is disappointing, especially because litigators are often on the move. The app feels clunky and your ability to search for, access and/or edit files is very limited compared to the desktop client. My partner reports that he is even unable to draft/edit documents on his iPad Pro. I like the tasking ability of Smokeball as it allows any attorney to send me tasks that need to be completed, which is super helpful since I work for multiple attorneys. The AI time feature is a great addition because it stops me from losing track of my billable time if I forget to save a manual time entry. I also like that I have the messaging feature to communicate back and forth with my clients. Plus, I feel it's pretty user-friendly. When I generate an email inside of Smokeball, it doesn't always put my signature line in my email. So I have to copy and paste that, and it's kind of annoying. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I wish that the Calendar had a little more customization, organization, and viewing settings. Would like to have an option the change the view where the names I have checked on are displayed along the top and across. Would like to be able to "pin" Memos so that certain memos stay at the top of Memos and don't get lost. Would like to see some sort of group/folder setting within the memos, like creating a "folder" labeled "Attorneys" where I can find only memos left by Attorneys. When sending Phone Messages, I would like to be able to select a group rather than checking individual names. I am also not fond of the Web version of the program. I use Smokeball for all our firm documents, saving, and creating activities. It's very easy to work with and makes saving documents and copying them to other files a breeze. I like how everything is organized in the file - when we save a document, we can easily put it in or create a folder, making it much easier to find later. Sometimes the PDFs take very long to load, and sometimes the documents don't close when you hit the close button. I would like to easily open a PDF and not have it load for 20 seconds before I can scroll or access it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like the ability to easily organize documents and emails into each client's file. I also like its search capabilities. I can easily create a folder in a file and place relevant documents in those folders. I can also search for specific documents or terms in a specific file, or search for a name of a document in my entire company's files combined to find an example to work off of. Smokeball has been one of the best tools we’ve implemented in our firm. The platform is intuitive, streamlines tasks that used to take a lot of time, and makes managing files, documents, and calendars incredibly efficient.

The document automation and templates are excellent, helping us work with more accuracy and speed. The automatic time tracking feature is also extremely helpful and gives us a clear, effortless record of our work.

I appreciate the integrations with other software, like Outlook and Word. My Outlook calendar syncs with my Smokeball calendar, and emails in Outlook can be easily tagged to a matter. Some clients don't use email and prefer text messages. Even a few don't have email addresses. I wish Smokeball's message tool functioned with just a phone number and was consistent in its reliability. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Smokeball has been a very helpful tool for our practice. It does an excellent job of collecting all the necessary information for each matter in one place, which helps cases organized and easy to manage. The reporting features are especially useful, with the ability to split and filter information by attorney, making oversight and tracking much more efficient. The reporting functionality is somewhat limited, as there is no option to create fully custom reports. Additionally, the system does not currently offer a dedicated option for healthcare related matters, which would be beneficial for practices in that area. It is loosing its pricing competitiveness which was a big reason for our transition to Smokeball in the first place. I am at the end of my first 36 month contract and the renewal fees have nearly DOUBLED which is hard pill to swallow. There is no real way to reduce fees without substantial loss in features which made Smokeball attractive in the first place. While they offer different pricing/feature levels, if you want the features of automated precedents and autotime there is virtually no saving compared to their top-tier pricing due to how expensive they've made addons. Their second tier product has options to include $107 worth of addons when their first tier product includes them all for an additional $50. Even if you just choose 1 addon, the savings are negligible compared to the top tier product.
