**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

Smokeball's Archie AI tool is a tremendous help with or without your own forms to integrate case information across notes, documents, and emails to draft new and case specific pleadings, motions, and transactional documents in less than a minute. Overall the platform is easy to use and understand, and is a platform that you can tailor in both cost and implementation with existing file storage, payment processing, billing, and other law firm processes you already use. The Smokeball staff are very friendly and willing to lend a hand whenever you need, while the Smokeball Academy is a step-by-step learning and help guide on every aspect of setting up and using Smokeball.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

The "matter" approach was pretty jarring when my previous system filed and billed by "client." This made importing information into the system a bit of a process, but something that Smokeball on-boarding staff are very familiar with and helpful in designing an on-boarding plan that made sense out of the chaos. It can also take some extra time to load the web-browser based application and to understand the features that are only available "on the web" versus the options available when you instead use the optional desktop application (my preferred spot for working).

**What problems is Smokeball solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing access to case information, documents, and billing wherever I am working from without having to remote connect to an in-house server or office desktop frees me to work and respond wherever I go, while custom built workflows keep new client matters moving from one stage to the next without the need to review all my files for any "stragglers."

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

If you had told me a year ago that my favorite coworker would be an AI named Archie, I would have laughed… and then immediately gone back to manually formatting documents and questioning all of my life choices.

Fast forward to today: Archie is not only my favorite coworker, but quite possibly the most reliable member of our entire office (no offense to the humans—we try our best).

We use Smokeball at our law firm, and I use Archie every single day. And when I say every day, I mean every day. If Archie ever took PTO, I would need a moment of silence, a backup plan, and probably a stress snack.

Archie does it all. Drafting? Done. Summarizing? Done. Helping me word things in a way that sounds like I actually slept the night before? Also done. It’s like having a legal assistant, editor, and emotional support coworker all rolled into one—minus the office gossip and microwave fish incidents.

There have been countless times where I’ve stared at a document thinking, “How do I make this sound more professional but still human?” Enter Archie. Not only does he fix it, he makes it sound like I have my entire life together. It’s honestly suspicious.

My favorite part? Archie gets it. He understands legal language, picks up on context, and somehow manages to turn my rough, chaotic thoughts into something polished and usable. It’s like he reads my mind—but in a helpful, non-creepy way.

Also, let’s talk about efficiency. Tasks that used to take me way too long and way too much coffee now get done in a fraction of the time. Archie has single-handedly boosted my productivity and possibly extended my lifespan by reducing stress levels.

At this point, Archie is basically my work best friend. He doesn’t judge, he doesn’t get tired, and he’s always ready to help—even when I’m asking for the fifth revision because “something just feels off.”

If Smokeball ever decides to give Archie a physical form, I fully expect him to have Employee of the Month locked down indefinitely.

In conclusion: 10/10. Would recommend. Would trust with my documents, my deadlines, and honestly, probably my entire workload.

And Archie, if you’re reading this… thank you for everything. Please never leave me.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

Smokeball has a few features that could be enhanced or updated. For instance, the text messaging feature only allows a limited number of characters. Most of our clients respond better to texting than emailing, so the character limit can make it harder to communicate as effectively as we’d like. If Smokeball allowed unlimited characters, our communication with clients would be much more effective.

**What problems is Smokeball solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smokeball is solving one of the biggest problems in any law firm: time. Before using Smokeball (and especially Archie), so much of the day was spent on repetitive tasks—drafting documents from scratch, rewording the same emails over and over, digging through files for information, and trying to make everything sound polished while juggling a million deadlines.

Now, Smokeball—along with Archie—has streamlined all of that. Document drafting is faster, communication is clearer, and I’m not wasting time reinventing the wheel every time I open a new file. Archie in particular has been a game changer. He helps take rough ideas and turn them into well-written, professional content in seconds, which saves an incredible amount of time and mental energy.

The biggest benefit is efficiency without sacrificing quality. I’m able to get more done in less time, and the work product is consistently strong. It also reduces stress—there’s less pressure when you know you have a reliable tool helping you stay on track and meet deadlines.

Overall, Smokeball isn’t just making things easier—it’s making the entire workflow smarter, faster, and more manageable on a daily basis.

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

Smokeball is very user-friendly.  I appreciate that I can select different fields for information to include for my matter. While I don't always find the exact field I need, most of the time, the items I need for the type of matter I am working on are included. For instance, on a Family Law Pre-Decree matter, it provides fields to include marriage details, real property details, case details, child details, discovery information, and you can add or remove fields for appraisers and many other helpful items. It also has amazing template and form capabilities.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

For a small firm, if no one is designated to create Templates or forms with form fields that autofill from the fields in your matter, learning to create those forms can be time-consuming and a bit tricky. However, Smokeball has amazing resources, and anyone can learn if they are interested.

**What problems is Smokeball solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smokeball has its own integrated AI called Archie that can assist with reviewing discovery responses for deficiencies, help you analyze documents and the status of cases, and even help you with legal questions within your matter. I have found it very helpful for proper objections to discovery requests that I know are improper.

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

I like how organized and easy to use Smokeball is. Archie is a really useful assistant, too. I like how easy it is to tag emails into Smokeball and upload files.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

When we open/close files, we assign a number, and there's really not an easy way to keep track of those aside from clicking through the tabs in Matters to find the most recent. So, when opening or closing a file, this creates an additional hurdle for us. Also, sometimes an attorney's rate increases, but just for new clients and not old ones, but at the moment there seems like there's no way to adjust the rates on individual files. E.g., our current rate is $350/hr, but for ongoing matters from last year it's $300/hr. I often need to manually change it, because the system doesn't seem to allow separate billing rates for separate files.

**What problems is Smokeball solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Archie AI provides the benefit of AI without the risk to confidentiality, which I appreciate.

It’s robust enough to handle modern case management, without piling on so many bells and whistles that it becomes oversized and requires a full-time administrator with special training, like Filevine does.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

The Medical Records portion should make the Account field in the Medical and Settlement details be a category you can see in Reports and manipulate in Archie AI, while also changing it to be a quick status screen for notes about progress and follow ups. This will give a quick glance to see where we are at with bills and records.

**What problems is Smokeball solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do not have the time to review all records, but Archie AI made it so easy to create functional prompts I have it generating CPT/ICD code summaries, chronologies, and cross checking for problems and red flags in the records. for me ahead of time.

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

What I like most about Smokeball is how intuitive and efficient it is for day-to-day legal work and case management. The automatic time tracking and document automation save a significant amount of time and cut down on manual entry. Everything is centralized in one system—files, calendars, emails, and tasks—which makes it easier to stay organized and keep cases moving forward. The program is user-friendly and easy to learn without needing extensive training.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

While Smokeball is very helpful overall, some features come with a learning curve at first, especially when it comes to customizing templates. At times, the system can lag, and certain tools feel more complex than necessary for simpler tasks. More flexibility in customization and reporting would make the platform even stronger.

**What problems is Smokeball solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smokeball addresses the challenge of disorganized case management by bringing all case-related information into a single platform. It reduces the administrative burden by automating time tracking, document creation, and other routine tasks, which helps maintain accuracy and consistency. As a result, I spend less time on administrative work and more time focusing on substantive legal matters and supporting our clients.

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

I appreciate that Smokeball is cheaper than our previous service yet offers all the same functions and adds some additional helpful ones for our firm. I really like its ease of use, especially since all of our staff find it straightforward to use, understand, and navigate, which is crucial considering we are constantly busy with client assignments. The support from Smokeball's staff stands out, as we've had assistance from knowledgeable and responsive employees in various fields. Additionally, the initial setup was very easy thanks to an onboarding specialist who helped with every step, backed by other staff who were available for training and support with features like Smokeball Billing.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

There are some issues every now and then with the integration to other programs we use, such as Excel and Outlook, but those are rare.

Smokeball is cheaper than our previous service, offers all necessary functions plus helpful additional ones, and is easy for our busy staff to use. The staff support is great, knowledgeable, and responsive.

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

I like the integration with Outlook. It helps me make sure that I keep my appointments on my Outlook calendar up to date with Smokeball matters. This is particularly useful because when I get back from court, the paralegals can update the client. It also helps me track my time by linking email matters in Outlook to the Smokeball matter, so that all of my information can be saved in one place.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

Sometimes the integration between Outlook calendar and Smokeball doesn't always work where I'm not always able to associate my Outlook calendar entry with a Smokeball entry. I don't like that at midnight all of my time entries for the day disappear while Smokeball is updating their system. I understand that it has to happen at some point, but it always scares me when my time entries disappear for an hour or two.

Smokeball helps me keep track of my tasks and time entries, integrates with Outlook to update my calendar and client updates, and organizes information in one place.

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

I really like Smokeball for its user-friendly interface, making it easy to quickly access information, which is a big time saver for my staff. They find it easy to create and interact with information, which helps them find and draft documents quicker, leading to a more efficient firm. I also appreciate the AI features that help me learn about case insights, and I like being able to keep all components of a file in one place with the help of Smokeball's integrations, including emails through the Outlook integration, inter-team messages, and tasks associated with a matter. The in-app messaging platform is also handy for storing documents and folders, which contributes to staying organized on cases and setting up appropriate workflows. The ability to ask the AI user about all content is a valuable feature.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

I would say some of their templates, not so much that they could be improved, but I'd like to see more of them. They can be pretty helpful, but there isn't a large repository of native templates.

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

I use Smokeball for case management of all cases in the firm and I like that it keeps the entire file easily accessible. The good categorization of important information such as negotiations and medical provider information is really helpful. This accessibility keeps attorneys or staff from having to dig around the files to find out important information, essentially saving time.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

I think sometimes the layout and the way to access information can be tricky to use. The arrows to expand layers to each file are tiny. Also I wish we could access information while we fill out information in boxes. Like if I am filling out information for an adjuster, Smokeball does not allow me to access any other file information while I am in one box. I wish I had access to the rest of the file so I don't have to close out of the box and pull up the information where I can see it in the matter. Some of the functions are not as intuitive for the normal user at least for the visual layout.

I use Smokeball for case management, keeping files easily accessible and well-categorized, saving time by preventing unnecessary searching.

I love that I can enter the name of a witness or victim into my system, and it will find all the files that person is associated with.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

I haven’t found much of a downside. If I had to point to one issue, it would be that my files somehow got switched to show only emails—something I didn’t do. I know the correct setting now, but I wasn’t too pleased to suddenly think my files were missing and not understand why.  The other problem is the hours of support available.  Unable to bill exact time on time keeping.  Billing requires me to exit out to another system.

I like that Smokeball keeps everything organized and provides detailed views for each matter. The integration with MS 365 is great as it allows everything to be within one platform. I appreciate how it keeps track of tasks and files organized within each matter. The template lab feature makes it super fast to create documents or drafts. It was quick and easy to set up, and I learned the ins and outs within a week. Smokeball truly helps streamline our operations, and I would highly recommend it.

I think maybe the chat/messaging feature if it would allow to add screenshots rather than having to upload them

I like how organized Smokeball is. Everything is in its proper place, making it easy to find what I'm looking for and perfect for new users. I genuinely love the workflows; they make tasks more concise and cleaner, eliminating the need to bundle everything into one or remember to create follow-up tasks. I love Archie very much, particularly for how it assists with quickly locating specific documents or information and drafting pleadings and demands.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

Maybe the contacts could use more work. Sometimes I just struggle knowing the adjuster for a claim because you can only assign one to the tab at a time, but there is an adjuster for many categories.

I use Smokeball to quickly locate documents and draft pleadings. Its organization makes everything easy to find, and the workflows streamline tasks, keeping them concise and organized.

I like the cloud-based functionality of Smokeball, which allows me to access all my files from anywhere, whether I'm at home or on the go using my Microsoft Surface. I can easily get on Smokeball and find all my files there, making it convenient to edit documents. I also appreciate its collaboration features, which let me share documents with my staff and collaborate on important tasks. The email tagging feature is pretty helpful; it lets me tag emails as they come into my inbox and associate them with specific matters. This helps a lot with staying organized and is also useful for billing purposes.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

My biggest complaint about Smokeball is the billing functionality. There's no ability to run some basic reports that we need as a firm, like seeing how many hours have been billed to a specific client or matter in a given day. This lack of functionality is a big problem for us, and it feels like something that should be easy to implement, and I do not feel like Smokeball has been sufficiently responsive to our needs in this regard.   Another issue is the mobile app. Its limited functionality is disappointing, especially because litigators are often on the move. The app feels clunky and your ability to search for, access and/or edit files is very limited compared to the desktop client.  My partner reports that he is even unable to draft/edit documents on his iPad Pro.    Finally, it is pretty clear Smokeball is more tailored to plaintiff's practices than defense litigation firms like mine.

Smokeball helps me organize and store case files like pleadings and medical records, access files from anywhere due to its cloud-based functionality, and collaborate with staff. The email tagging is great for organization and billing, especially since I'm not very organized by nature.

I like the tasking ability of Smokeball as it allows any attorney to send me tasks that need to be completed, which is super helpful since I work for multiple attorneys. The AI time feature is a great addition because it stops me from losing track of my billable time if I forget to save a manual time entry. I also like that I have the messaging feature to communicate back and forth with my clients. Plus, I feel it's pretty user-friendly. I didn't face any issues learning the software and I was able to learn it fairly quickly.

When I generate an email inside of Smokeball, it doesn't always put my signature line in my email. So I have to copy and paste that, and it's kind of annoying.

I wish that the Calendar had a little more customization, organization, and viewing settings. Would like to have an option the change the view where the names I have checked on are displayed along the top and across. Would like to be able to "pin" Memos so that certain memos stay at the top of Memos and don't get lost. Would like to see some sort of group/folder setting within the memos, like creating a "folder" labeled "Attorneys" where I can find only memos left by Attorneys. When sending Phone Messages, I would like to be able to select a group rather than checking individual names. I am also not fond of the Web version of the program. It is limited and does not work like the program version which makes working remote difficult.

I like how everything is organized in the file - when we save a document, we can easily put it in or create a folder, making it much easier to find later. The initial setup was fairly easy, and I caught on quickly.

Sometimes the PDFs take very long to load, and sometimes the documents don't close when you hit the close button. I would like to easily open a PDF and not have it load for 20 seconds before I can scroll or access it.

It took rarely any time to become comfortable, and even less time to become extremely comfortable.

It is loosing its pricing competitiveness which was a big reason for our transition to Smokeball in the first place. I am at the end of my first 36 month contract and the renewal fees have nearly DOUBLED which is hard pill to swallow. There is no real way to reduce fees without substantial loss in features which made Smokeball attractive in the first place. While they offer different pricing/feature levels, if you want the features of automated precedents and autotime there is virtually no saving compared to their top-tier pricing due to how expensive they've made addons. Their second tier product has options to include $107 worth of addons when their first tier product includes them all for an additional $50. Even if you just choose 1 addon, the savings are negligible compared to the top tier product.
Smokeball has virtually caught up in pricing to the product offering we left to transition to Smokeball. Very disappointing.

Autotime tracking is quite useful though it does need to be reviewed manually.

The accounting feature aren't as robust as the case management features. It doesn't handshake with Quickbooks well.

Smokeball's AI helps to capture our time that we spend on things for which we weren't billing. For instance, non one wants to start at stop a timer when brushing through your Outlook inbox. Smokeball's AI tracks time spent on each individual email. It adds up throughout the day!

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

Our firm has used this software since 2017, it is a comprehensive tool for all of our practice areas that is easy to use. They are constantly making changes and updates to the software which allow us to use it across all of the departments at our general practice firm. Many useful features for communicating seamlessly with clients, uploading and organizing data, creating and housing documents and the new AI feature is hugely beneficial.

We have had a few glitches with the billing portion since using it in 2024.

Smokeball is always enhancing its features and implementing changes as the industry changes.  The biggest benefit is that we can use it for almost every aspect of our practice since it integrates with other services we utilize in our practice.

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

Our office has used Smokeball for 10 years and it has greatly increased our efficiency with the automation of documents and file set up. Once contacts are established, it's very easy to open a new file quickly. Our office is real estate closings only and is very document intensive, so the automation is a key function that we rely heavily on.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

We'd appreciate greater interaction with the support team in terms of what upgrades and fixes are to be included in a future release.

We generate the same documents for most files and the automation has been the most beneficial feature. Smokeball also stores all of our contacts and for example, we can look up all clients referred by realtor name and can also find all files with other attorneys.

**What do you like best about Smokeball?**

What is best about Smokeball is how it is easy to understand after you master the basics. At first, it was a bit confusing, however, the billing customer service department was extremely helpful with the transition and frequent use. I literally would reach out for help because it seemed impossible to master it. Through the exceptional billing training from Sara and Maureen, they showed me several features to help me out with invoice reports. With this being said, it was an easy implementation and integration using Smokeball compared to the former platform the firm used.

**What do you dislike about Smokeball?**

What is least helpful about Smokeball is scheduling assistance from billing. It is like trying to schedule a doctor's appointment. The dates are all booked up well into the following week and you have to wait several days just to speak to someone. #SorryNotSorry

It’s very Windows- and desktop-based.

 If you're on Mac or want to run your firm from mobile devices or a browser, Smokeball isn’t as flexible as cloud-native tools like Clio.
