All technology can be buggy at times but Rocket Matter goes out of their way to resolve issues. **What do you dislike about Rocket Matter?** I had an issue with a third party provider of a feature that we purchased through Rocket Matter and our office uses it within the Rocket Matter platform. I kept getting bounced back and forth with both Rocket Matter's support team and the third party's support team each saying the issue is on the other side and saying I needed to contact the other support team. Eventually, the two got together to find an explanation (not a resolution) to the issue I was having which happened to be a sensitive one involving our calendar and dates that had been calendared but then wouldn't show up on the calendar sometmes. It would have been nice for Rocket Matter support to contact the third party on their end to get the issue resolved instead of telling me to contact the other vendor. **What problems is Rocket Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have noticed that Rocket Matter is listening to customers because Rocket Matter is slowly becoming more effective and useful for a personal injury firm to use. For example, billing for the same client on multiple matters makes it easier when we are representing a client for more than one date of injury. Running invoices individually or in a batch is simple and straightforward, and while doing so it correctly adjusts individual matter/client ledgers correctly - which hasn't been the case with certain other practice management software I have used. The contact fields are easy to modify and format, even for someone with no experience doing so. The software does correctly handle payments and IOLTAs, pulling fees from operating while crediting the entire amount paid to the client's ledger. The integration with Propay (which they also own) is relatively seamless. while not really useful in my practice, they do allow you to create matter types with associated workflows and set progress points. The price is decent for a solo or small firm, though you don't get the volume discount as your seat number gets large that you do with other programs. **What do you dislike about Rocket Matter?** The invoicing setup, while adequate, lacks simple functions that I found useful in other software I have used before. The recurring billing options are limited and only the payment plan for an existing balance is really customizable. That said, the payment plan is a "dumb" plan - once it calculates the payment amounts and dates, it just steams along ignoring all other parts of the software. If you set up a payment plan and then a client pays his or her balance in a lump sum after the plan starts, the software will continue to charge the client even after the system shows a balance of $0. This seems minor until you realize you're still paying processing fees on refunds, the software should be easy to fix, and Rocket Matter is the one who benefits from leaving the poor process in place - most of the time they are the payment processor. I have also had somewhat regular issues with payment links. On multiple occasions had to resend an invoice or retainer request because a payment link did work and returned an error. Not a bank error, a programming error, which seems to happen more often when the link is used on a mobile device. Not only is this a concern given how many people only use a mobile device, but when it is a retainer request and you have to attempt 3 times for the software to work, it doesn't give a great first impression. when the link returns an error, you can't simply resend the invoice, because that link will be dead, so to send another link you have to have the system generate a new invoice with a new invoice number which is sloppy account management. In other systems I have used, after a charge was invoiced, you were able to, with sufficient system permissions, go and unfinalize an invoice to make changes to previously invoiced items. There are times when doing so is simpler and preferred over simply adding an adjustment to the client ledger. Also, as best I can tell after using Rocket Matter for about 2 years, you can only make an adjustment to the client's ledger, not a specific matter of a client which is pretty annoying. The Rocket Matter mobile app is a disgrace in 2022 and frankly works so poorly and inconsistently that it's not worth the effort to even try to use it. On top of that, the site doesn't work well at all from a mobile browser. The site doesn't scale or alter its layout when accessed from a mobile device, so you are constantly dragging the screen around to get any small task done. I am not thrilled they keep adding new features before making the current ones work correctly and/or better. **What problems is Rocket Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** It does a good job of time tracking, billing, and invoicing as well as trust account bookkeeping. The side project for which I was using Rocket Matter ended, and I unfortunately had to cancel the service. That call went as well as the signup call, which is to say, exceptional. Their folks are responsive, helpful, and get you to the solutions you need, fast. **What do you dislike about Rocket Matter?** I suppose I didn't love the initial data import process. It took a little longer than expected and many of the records produced duplicates or the fields were wrong. The RM team did, however, remedy the situation, and we got everything squared away. **What problems is Rocket Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Rocket Matter is vaporizing the stress of managing data in numerous portals. It's all there when you log in. When unable to either find a workaround or solution the Chat Support goes above and beyond in their depth of knowledge and willingness to research solutions on your behalf. **What do you dislike about Rocket Matter?** I dislike not being able to modify the reports that are built into Rocket Matter to tailor search results. When upgraded, you are able to create your own reports but without being able to duplicate and modify a pre-existing report that is one or two data points off you are left experimenting with ways to manipulate datasets to achieve the desired results. **Recommendations to others considering Rocket Matter:** Work from the beginning to develop templates for Users. Once in place, it will run itself! **What problems is Rocket Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Rocket Matter is allowing tracking of average Attorney and Staff billable units, non-billable units, and no charge units to create analytics-based reports to determine business needs while assisting in standardizing templates for repeatable results. I am looking forward to future product releases and discovering ways our firm isn't already currently utilizing this CRM to its potential. ### 11. When we run invoices, it automatically credits available trust funds and invoices the client for the different (if any). The save a lot of time compared to Quickbooks which requires manual transfers and multiple accounting entries. **What do you dislike about Rocket Matter?** We really wish that Rocket Matter featured a client number and a matter number which would be automatically iterated and assigned. We use a four digit number for clients (e.g. 3123 for John Smith) and then another four digit number per matter (e.g. .0001 for their first matter with us) for a client/matter # on a given case (e.g. 3123.0001 for the first John Smith matter). That number is used for physical files, reference # in letters, etc. However, we haven't found a way for Rocket Matter to automatically assign these, leading us to use a separate tracking Google spreadsheet instead, which is klunky. **Recommendations to others considering Rocket Matter:** Rocket Matter is a great system for handling your billing and trust accounting! **What problems is Rocket Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Rocket Matter helps our law firm solve the problem of automatically sending out invoices and collecting card or ACH payments from clients, seamlessly and without requiring us to do anything other than instruct the system to send out the invoices. When you're in a month, you can only click on the days in that actual month shown in the small calendar on the side. Customer service is absolutely amazing! We are a fully paperless firm and Rocket Matter is one of the key pieces that allow that to be in place. **What do you dislike about Rocket Matter?** The only downside we have experienced relates to any cloud-based software - sometimes the response times are slower than desired. This is sometimes due to our internet connection and other times due to the servers on the Rocket Matter side. But overall it is perfectly acceptable. **Recommendations to others considering Rocket Matter:** We explored multiple practice management solutions when we decided to go paperless in our firm. **What problems is Rocket Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are a paperless firm and utilize almost all of the tools Rocket Matter has to offer that allow us to work efficiently from merging documents to billing. As we always say, paper comes in, paper goes out, but it doesn't live within the firm. It is useful to be able to easily bill my time and send invoice to clients. **What do you dislike about Rocket Matter?** The system still requires a lot of manual processes. No integration with Quickbooks for Mac. Billing means making invoices, manually downloading, and then emailing them individually. Payments happen entirely offline due to limited integration and the high cost of payment processing through Lawpay. Too much for small/solo practitioners to cover. There is still limited communications available through the platform so the document portal has not been super useful and generally, my customer service requests weren't handled great. Overall it is relatively low cost but I will not be sticking around as a customer due to the number of ongoing issues. **What problems is Rocket Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Invoicing and time tracking. ### 25. The software does a default trust account attached to the person's name instead of the matter title. It gets really confusing when you have multiple matters for one contact and multiple people creating the matters and not remembering to create a new trust account each time. Since the Trust is connected to the person it also gets complicated when the Client passes and an Heir continues on with the matter. Once you change the Client's name then the Trust that was with it comes off the matter as well. **Recommendations to others considering Rocket Matter:** Don't be afraid to reach out to support for anything. The only reason we haven't changed is because the managing partner is, like most attorneys, reluctant to change. His manta, the enemy you know versus the enemy you don't. Rocket matter helps calendar easier. **What do you dislike about Rocket Matter?** You have to re-type events and time entries over and over instead of being able to easily duplicate or enter multiple things at once. It takes 10+ more minutes than usual to put in multiple calendar events or time entries. The calendar interface is ugly but functional.
