**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It's the most comprehensive project management software and covers every use for managing people, resources and timing.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It's really complicated to learn and there are quirks that are only figured out by trial and error.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used it to verify that a project I'm proposing can be completed in the desired time frame - or alternatively, that I propose a realistic time frame for project completion.

  ### 2. Microsoft office project

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

You will need quite a considerable time of training to properly get expert and get comfortable in using this project management software to the maximum usage. Some of the feature or tools is quite hard to be understand the usage and the manual is not explaining the tools in details.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

I will suggest this software

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Gantt chart really helpful in planning the project time of completion.A great tool to build together a project schedule to help manage and control project work. It offers baseline management an budget management as well

  ### 4. Microsoft Project & Portfolio

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Pharmaceuticals | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Microsoft has evolved this product over a number of years, and it has nicely matured over time. There are several great features within the product, and the interoperability and sharing between projects is very helpful in day-to-day work for our project managers. Budget tracking is nicely done.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

While the project capabilities in the product have evolved to a mature state, the portfolio capabilities are still evolving. Microsoft needs to emphasize allowing customers to manage project portfolios in a data-driven, analytical manner: project cost, complexity, and risk for a few examples. Most of the portfolio products out there are comparable so it is not like Microsoft is behind, but that is the most difficult aspect of our deployment.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving mulitple problems: managing a large portfolio of programs and projects at the enterprise level, assessing resource collisions and constraints and ensuring projects remain on budget and on time..

  ### 5. Choice of Software for the Go To Project Management Need

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Gantt Charts - there are a lot of project management softwares out there but MS Project's ability to do large Gantt Charts while just inputting data on a screen is amazing.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Its a little clunky. Its great and filled with all teh awesome features but someone has to learn the tool inside out and take a class in order to be proficient in it.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

My recommendation si to rely on this worthy software but also get proper training before starting to use it which will not only make life easier but will provide full use of the actual software.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At Dell, we run large cross-functional project and programs that require a tremendous amount of planning and calculation, and MS Project is a our go-to software for project and portfolio planning and governance

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

This software coincides with all of the features we need to enhance our programs, allowing me to plan activities, delegate tasks, and analyze data and generate reports easily and entirely online. I appreciate the ability to assign tasks to several members and to get email notifications of upcoming work in real time.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It does not allow me to download large files, although there are much fewer opportunities for making statistics and graphics. If it is not used properly, resources and programs can be wasted. This program might also be a bit slow to start. We couldn't even afford to purchase an interim alternative for plan's kit propagation.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A fantastic software development channel centered on cloud computing tools that is best suited for any size company This is tech that will be very useful to you in your profession. I enjoy how easily we can bind many files and complete our business duties. Even then, watch a clip to understand how to use it, as it may take a bit longer to validate these functions.

To make sure we are all working within a team allows the ability to cross-check department status on projects, allows us not to double work or duplicate efforts. This allows us to work more in sync

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

I have been a long time Project user but only recently gained access to the Portfolio Management side. Portfolio management enables me to look across the full site of enterprise projects I'm managing. This allows for much better visibility in organizational resource constraints reducing risk. I can see who is working across multiple projects and have a greater ability to switch resources across projects to keep them on track.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Project still requires a lot of data entry to keep accurate tabs on projects and resources. I still struggle to integrate its use with non-Microsoft tools.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

Set up your basic project governance and templates before launching in your organization

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Management of global, enterprise wide projects that share people and company resources. Complex projects with numerous dependencies and high levels of risk. The benefits are greater awareness of critical bottlenecks & constraints before the cause project delays or overruns

  ### 12. The best software for traditional project management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fernanda M. | Specialist, Non-Profit Organization Management, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It has great integration with other Microsoft products, such as Office365 and APIs for integration with databases and other systems.
Manageable Factors in MS Project Project Scope Resources Time. These factors are interdependent and subject to changes during the process, without this implying a rupture between planning and execution.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It is not the best software for agile project management

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

Always compare other products before purchasing your project management tool. Our company had other tools before that were not as effective - and that costs time, money, and staff dedication. The use of tools, reading the opinion of other professionals in the same area of expertise of your company is also very important and I recommend it. Some features of MS Project are very important to us - such as Frame View where you can visually track project tasks for better workflow and status using built-in or custom task panes. We also use the Timeline View (Gantt) a lot to track and understand dates, tasks, and project task relationships in a visual timeline view.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MS Project is a project management tool capable of optimizing processes and projects. The software provides project leaders with facilities for follow-up and monitoring, such as detailed calendars, automatic task distributors and multiple-angle data visualization, among others. It is very popular for its ease of use and application versatility.
It has a lot of training material for users. Excellent technical support.

I have used it for over 15 years and I love it when I manage the projects, big or small. It shows the delays easily and I can adjust the schedule before it is too late.
I can predict and manage cost and resources activities and the workload.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laura R. | RRHH with Webex, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The best thing about Microsoft Project is that it allows you to disaggregate any project, large, medium, or minor, into multiple tasks that can be carried out sequentially or in parallel.
It is also possible to assign resources to each task and thus have a complete vision to avoid overlapping jobs with the same resource. It greatly optimizes the management of projects.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The only point to mention is the license cost that has to be acquired outside of Office 365.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Definitely, what I solved with Microsoft Project is the management of the projects. I have a complete vision, and it helps me know the degree of progress I have; I use it to put together executive reports.

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Microsoft Project has a great UI and easy-to-understand tools.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The software cannot be used for making real-time updates. It isn't intelligent enough to show auto-correction on the CPM.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've used it to define Critical Path, identify key milestones and create Gantt charts.

  ### 16. Great tool for managing large complex projects not so good at collaboration

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Javier S. | Senior Manager Manufacturing and Supply Chain IT, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

An incredible amount of detail about every project task and resource can be managed and controlled using this tool, the number of configuration changes is very large and it can be adopted to different types of projects.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Mainly designed for enterprise project managers the learning curve is very steep, if you do not have a server and multiple licenses is not a good collaboration platform

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Microsoft Project lets teams forecast resource needs, predict bottlenecks early, manage utilization, and ensure timely project delivery. Users can define the project team, know when to request resources for the project, and assign tasks to resources. It is invaluable for a project manager to keep a large project environment up to date, but it also requires high maintenance

  ### 19. Seamless Efficiency

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christina D. | Segment Producer/Client Coordinator Your Life Arizona on 3TV-KTVK Arizona's Family, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

I enjoyed the ease of use, and the edit team members made was clear. It's good at keeping moving parts organized. What I found to be most helpful was that when working on a project with various contributors, the parts of input were clear. I needed confirmation of details on a particular section of a document. As the details evolved the comments were in the same place so I always knew where to look for updates.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

There are a lot of moving parts and options to choose from when creating a project. However, some of the user interfaces weren't as clear, and it took a bit of time to learn how to do something that I thought was obvious but was perhaps not as easy as it should have been.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have letting multiple people from different departments, and even businesses work on the same thing. This particular project was a script for youtube. I worked with a marketing agency working with their client, and we all were on the project. They had details to iron out, and the script was constantly changing. I have realized that using the project and portfolio management allowed for everyone's work to be precise. I no longer had to go back into past emails to look at the input of others. Instead, the comments about a single project were visible.

  ### 20. Microsoft Project is the bests software for Project Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aldo Y. | Civil Enginnering and Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

For me, the best character of the Microsoft Project is the multiple options to develop projects within complications. I love those reports and analysis of time, resources, costs, and team. Another issue that I find very useful is to be able to create baselines, from which one can modify the project without losing the initial information. It should be noted that project is fully compatible with the processes and standards of the Project Management Institute and the International Organization for Standardization.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The principal problem whit this software that it is more expensive in comparison with other softwares like Project Libre, but too it is an essential fact that Microsoft Project is significantly better than others. The other thing that could be improved is to be able to work with yields, instead of hours, since in civil works, yields are the main source of information available in the different manuals and in the bibliography.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

Have the option to work with yields instead of working hours, as this will allow a direct link between the methodology in the construction industry and the use of the program, without having to make additional calculations first.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I solve cost and time about construction management, employed whit the software knowledge of Program Evaluation and Review Techniques or similars. In addition, the application is beneficial to elaborate network diagrams, to be able to follow up works, and, above all, to compare performance at the time of project closure.

I use office 365 for work and school, so having everything in one place is the best feature. The insights tool is one of the best features.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The main dislike is that Projects is not part of the Office 365 suite. The monthly pricing is comparatively expensive for a project management tool. The basic plan does not even include the Desktop client.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

Cloud-based solutions are the one you need.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having to use multiple vendor products. Syncing documents with projects is no longer an issue.

I like the Gantt charts and if you need very specific functions, this is the program to use. Plus everyone pretty much has it already.

It can be clunky and can look outdated. Other software is more collaborative and user-friendly.

**Reviewed by:** Forrest K. | Master Scheduler / Senior Programs Analyst , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2017

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

A very nimble product with many great reporting features.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Tries to enable all users. So many people think they know CPM planning tools when they do not. Bugs constantly come up with the tool. It is so easy to lock up all calculations with a perceived circular logic. The highlight filter disables the record filter. The subproject feature has failed me on several occasions. Very troublesome to not have the subproject UIDs when viewing the mast project.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

The server side of MS Project is still a poor product,

Oracle P6 still rules in quality.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Resource load, level and cost out IMS for management visibility and earned value tracking. Create extensive Schedule Risk Assessments (SRA) on key programmatic deliverables. ### 39. Functionality gets iffy when using as both a planner and a tracker

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Pharmaceuticals | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

This is the industry standard for project planning software but arguably, market dominance has not encouraged MS to improve Project. However, knowledge of this tool is very useful as it is used across industries and I've been able to enter into a client space and work from their .mpp files and share those that I've created. It's good for getting a general, predictive look at timelines and for mapping contingencies between tasks.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

When tracking multiple projects in the same file, it's not likely that the critical path will always accurately be identified, you have you use your own judgement. There are also limitations in using this software to both plan and track project progress. For example, adding progress to a plan (by marking % complete or updating 'Actual Start' or 'Actual Finish') will influence downstream dates even if there are dates that shouldn't be changed like planned meetings or deadlines, these necessitate manual restrictions to be put in place which can also interfere with detecting critical path.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

compound level drug development portfolio management, preventing overallocation of resources and shifting timing of deliverables to align with team availability

  ### 40. It saves us a lot of time

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dannielle P. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

We already have many predefined templates that we can use, reuse, and perfect as needed. It's as easy as picking a Gantt chart and filling in the dates, resources working on the project, and creating or deleting new tasks as needed. I can do this in Project in around 20 minutes for any project and compared to excel that takes at least 3 times as much it's a great time-saver, especially when editing the dates and updating the expectations as the projects mature.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It is really expensive. I'm happy using it as my company pays for it but I would never buy it giving there are some good free or cheap alternatives and unless you are a project manager like me there is a chance you don't really need the advanced functions anyway.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

If you work at a big company this software will be your friend when managing projects but as a startup maybe use something else, this is not cheap at all

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping resource allocation and time tracking of the projects I oversee.

  ### 41. Great for Offline Non-Collaborative Planning

  ### 44. A great alternative to online project management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emma S. | Engagement Transition and Transformation Integration Manager at IBM, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

This is not difficult to utilize, but the resources are in fact limited. I like the conventional 8-hour week and the possibility of assigning resources and functions, although I would choose more integrated features, such as easier cost sharing when viewing responsibilities or maybe easier creation of Pareto charts directly from the program.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The number of tools is very important, although it can be really heavy. It takes a lot of effort and time to learn a product to be used to the full.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

When you're going to use MS Project, I suggest an internship with an experienced Microsoft teacher who will introduce you to the system's outputs and inputs to make sure you know all the resources offered.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Usually, I don't solve almost any work at Project and I don't do portfolio management either, so I have almost no accounting or accounting projects, and the advantage is that I usually save a lot of my time.

  ### 45. Microsoft Project and Portfolio Management Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

MS Project is the best way to articulate the details of any project throughout the SDLC. The Gant charts is a great way to present the whole project to management/executives. It is also very easy to update and add notes at each milestone date or task. You can also integrate min-type plans into the overall very easily, and the dates and progress will be automatically updated.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

When importing a plan from excel, expect to meet with some challenges when copying and pasting.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefits are the scalability of the software application and the usability. I was able to create and save an mpp plan to share point and share amongst several members in the organization.

  ### 46. Very easy and clear mention of the tasks while managing projects

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Task tracking & timelines with schedule overlap.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It cannot open into any other format unless MS project s/w is installed.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Task tracking for projects is an excellent feature. Benefits include time-saving and managing the delays.

  ### 47. Works for detailed project planning!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rachel H. | Project Coordinator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

You can create a schedule that's as detailed as you want it, or as simple as you want it. Easily customizable. Can use templates, as well. It allows you to make sure that you do not miss any small tasks within even the largest projects. I like that there are so many different options and you can really make the tool your own. It's a great tool!

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It is a little complicated to learn. If you make a mistake on certain things, it takes a long time to fix that mistake. A lot of training is necessary to get the hang of the tool. I also don't like that there isn't an option right now for auto save. But, once you get the hang of it it's a great tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

If you want a tool that can be customized to what you need and will help you successfully manage projects down to the smallest details then Microsoft Project is your tool! I love it -- just be prepared to go through a good amount of training to get comfortable with the tool.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am managing 3 very large projects within Microsoft Project currently. It has allowed me to track down to the tiniest task level when needed to make sure the smallest tasks don't get forgotten. It helps feed into beautiful milestone charts and I can use the data within the schedule to create reports for upper management.

  ### 48. A Simplest tool to plan & montier any project

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rohan M. | Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Best thing I see whenever I used it was, its interface is very similar to the excel spreadsheet, and amazing customizable UI. Along with trust of Microsoft & runs on a lighter rigs. Gantt Chart/ Progress graphs or multi handle user at site is very simple as it goes.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

It does not support the customization of budget flow.. or thresholds, like primavera.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

read the PPM concepts before jumping deeper.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps to keep an eye on the project and foresee any labor or material issues and helps in delivering the project on time.

  ### 49. Efficient & Useful!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Liz R. | Ms. , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

This is very helpful for project management and saves us a lot of time overall. The pre-built templates are very helpful and this system allows us to easily view work projects and monitor the progress we are making.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

The biggest dislike is the price and it is not as user friendly as it could be. There are alternatives to this product that are more cost efficient and a bit easier to learn on the front end. I do like using this, but it is hard to justify the cost at times.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management:**

I would advise to look at all the features offered and the price point to make sure you will use it enough to justify the cost.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We save a lot of working hours with this tool. I like being able to see each stage as we progress through our work projects and have everything saved in one place for easy access. I can easily track and view everything and save a ton of time doing it.

  ### 50. Very good tool for managing any type of project

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jose T. | Start up branch office, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2020

**What do you like best about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

Microsoft Project is an excellent tool to correlate tasks, phases and milestones in any type of project. Even define resources that are required in each of them. It is quite intuitive and relatively easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?**

What I dislike about this application is that it requires an additional license to the Office 365 package. It should be an optional within the same package.

**What problems is Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Microsoft Project we were able to organize our projects much better. Observe how resources overlap, analyze progress and critical paths. This helps us to optimize time and resources and to be more effective.
