We used it for several years, despite the fact that it was never integrated with our POS system — which made it clunky and inefficient compared to competitors. We finally made the switch to a much better, integrated platform. That’s when the real headache started. Trying to cancel MarketMan was like jumping through flaming hoops. They pulled the classic move of referencing “contract terms” and a required 60-day notice — which I tried to provide. Instead of simply processing the cancellation, they responded with calendar invites and offers to “jump on a call” to show me what the software could do. After years of being a paying customer, this was insulting and incredibly tone-deaf. I made it crystal clear: just cancel my account. Charge me for the 60 days if you must. I don’t care — just cancel. Instead, they dragged things out with useless back-and-forth emails, hoops to jump through, and more pointless invitations to talk about features I’ve already used and decided weren’t worth it. It's the kind of dark-pattern nonsense that gives SAAS companies a bad name. You are not incurring costs to support me during the "notice period" — you’re just trying to trap customers into paying longer than they want to. I shouldn’t have to email a dozen people or waste time scheduling calls just to stop paying for a product I no longer want to use. MarketMan, maybe take a look at the new “click-to-cancel” law that was passed — it exists because of tactics like yours. If you want software that works with your systems and a company that treats its customers with respect — especially when they want to leave — I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. This is my first time to use the service, this is the most important reason I would like to try because I feel safe. My POS system can't integrate with Marketman. It's simple, I don't want to change my POS, so I ask them kindly to just cancel my service on May 2023. But, they stopped me from canceling service many times. Just for a $280 monthly fee. Marketman service is the only one software that stops me from canceling and keeps charging me for a whole year! **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** MarketMan does the restaurant inventory management. But be careful, You sign as a 12 month agreement which they would not tell you. ### 3. It's extremely helpful to have the ability to track costs of not only inventory items, but also menu items by building recipes to see the exact breakdown of costs and profit margins. **What do you dislike about MarketMan?** There are little inconveniences in the software that I would like to be fixed/improved. The development team is incredibly slow with implementing any of these requests, no matter how big or small. After 5 months we have yet to have anything improved that we've suggested. **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** MarketMan is simplifying all of our restaurants operations. From sending orders to vendors to logging waste and generating financial reports, I feel like MarketMan does it all for us. We especially love how we can create our menu and have all menu item costs broken down with limits set on costs. ### 5. We are now able to tell them exactly which products we are having issues with instead of giving them broad information like "your food cost is high". Now we can let the managers know which specific products are the issue. **What do you dislike about MarketMan?** There isn't a whole lot to dislike about Marketman. I would say it was tough getting the system up and running because it takes a lot of time and energy to implement everything you need into the system in order for it to give you accurate data back, but that is how it is with any inventory/cost control system. **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main problem it has solved for us is pinpointing why the food cost is high in the restaurant. Before Marketman we were only able to know that it was high and only guess what the problem was. ### 6. Great for procurement, useless for recipe management. It needs a lot of setup which is normal for anything advanced... but I question if all this effort is worthwhile for kitchens and chefs. After huge amounts of effort to set the system up, you find that the last steps do not work (This actually makes life harder for chefs because of all the bugs and the lack of support) **What do you dislike about MarketMan?** For a kitchen, restaurant or commercial kitchen, the only reason you are purchasing and managing your procurement is to cook a product for your customer (The recipe is the WHOLE reason you use the system). So while market man is great at procurement its recipe management, recipe printing,recipe accuracy and intermittent bugs are absolutely unacceptable and their support teams are not on the ball and are unwilling to help. Imagine you invest hundreds to thousands of hours and now your printed recipes are a mess up (missing sub-recipes, missing details, printing issues and intermittent bugs)... and its too technically difficult for a chef to use... This is market man... its too hard and too buggy for a chef to use, So keep using Excel for recipes, this will waste your time and frustrate your staff. You need to fix your recipe management, printing, recipe-set printing, production events are buggy, empty production event is painful, printing to PDF is buggy... its way to hard to get a recipe of the system. **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Good at procurement management ### 7. It's the best inventory solution for Commissary kitchens with multiple retail locations that we've been able to find. COGs tracking is excellent and the inventory reports it provides give you fantastic insight into where possible waste/theft/over portioning is happening in your stores. The software is straightforward to use, and if you're even a little bit tech savvy you shouldn't have too much trouble picking it up. **What do you dislike about MarketMan?** The biggest issue with Marketman is the support. They're slow to respond to urgent requests, and the system frequently breaks (about once a week). It takes about 3-7 days in our experience to get a fix to the system breaking glitch. Incredibly frustrating when you're trying to rely on it for your daily operations. Small things- The website claims "real-time" inventory data... but they only auto-sync the sales once a day. So if you're imagining software that alerts you when you're running low on an item during a shift so you can respond appropriately, you're out of luck. It won't let you know until the next day when it's usually pretty irrelevant. You can manually sync the sales to get "real-time" data but the sync isn't responsive and can take a couple of hours so it certainly doesn't feel "real-time". Having humans enter your scanned receipts is an alright idea, but it often feels like you get none of the benefits of having a computer do it and all of the downsides of having humans do it. Update: Support continues to be the worst I've experienced. I would have loved to update this review with something more positive, but we continue to experience system-breaking glitches, and support is sluggish and incompetent in their response. **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** COGs tracking is wonderful. Has a controller, you will have real-time data to allow you to make sound financial decisions, What I appreciate the most is how fast and easy it is to navigate from portal to portal and your work will always get saved, as the system will prompt you the save before exiting. When inputting Invoices using the manual option, it is extremely user-friendly to audit Inventory Items, Update Prices, Issue Credits and upload scanned Invoices. **What do you dislike about MarketMan?** I think the one thing that is missing from Market Man is the ability to make payments directly from Market Man. Having ACH or other payment methods built into Market Man's SaaS would be ideal for operators. **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Time and increasing margins. By using Market Man we have saved invaluable time by not having to outsource and use another third-party system. We are able to track our food stocks in a better manner and with the forecast we were able to reduce food waste. You can also insert the recipies to see with which you make the most profit. **What do you dislike about MarketMan?** I wish the COGS report would contain more information, also a more detailed breakdown was good. Otherwise it is a good programme which has improved our processes a lot. **Recommendations to others considering MarketMan:** Before we introduced Marketman to our business, we used the trial version to get an idea of the programme. This is recommended so you know what you are getting into. **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Filing of our products, entry of orders and sales. By entering recipes and estimated consumption, we can better plan orders and minimise waste of perishable goods in particular. Our ordering processes have become more objective, which is also reflected in the average stock levels, which have now been reduced. ### 31. I was part of the team who implemented this software within the company and although it took weeks of hard work, the structure you get after it runs is just great and easy to understand. I believe MM is very on point about what an inventory system should be. Every aspect (weight, price, providers, UOM, etc) is perfectly integrated for each item. Going from a bought item to a full recipe is perfect so you'll know exactly where you're losing profit and the items that perform best. **What do you dislike about MarketMan?** I seriously think this software has no major flaws at all. We've had it running for less than .6 months, but everything (the inventory counts, deductions and purchases) are flowing with our POS Lavu. Perhaps different reports could be available to see more about selling items and profitability **Recommendations to others considering MarketMan:** Make sure you have a team while implementing so you can all be on the same page and work through issues together, it makes it easier, TRUST ME!! **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Missing physical items have been reduced IMMENSELY with the implementation of this software. It is easier to make our weekly and EOM inventories as you can make the count directly on your smartphone and it is synced immediately with any back office for MM. The items we have configured on our POS are automatically synced to MM so any changes can easily be tracked and corrected if need be. Reporting is being made easier when different requests are given to us by Head of Country F&B. ### 32. Most day to day functions run seamlessly and accurately once the system is correctly set up. A lot of the clients we would introduce this to require a high level or reporting. the stock take feature could use a bit of fine tuning. It is sometime difficult to check at a glance what the variances are, as you have to use specific stock take dates to get an accurate picture. **Recommendations to others considering MarketMan:** Give it try. It is certainly worth it. **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Stock management time and accuracy has definitely improved. Time is money. I find it tracks prices well and invoice entry is for the most part (see below) intuitive. I can also access it from anywhere with the app! I think that installed-software is beneficial for speed (I'm totally at the whim of internet speed), but the ability to access this information from anywhere is a huge bonus. **What do you dislike about MarketMan?** There are a few areas where things could be improved or streamlined. I personally didn't have a great experience with photographing the invoices and having MarketMan enter then, which was such an exciting thing to hear about when I first heard about this system! I ended up having to fall back on manual entry for the sake of accuracy and preventing multiple entries of the same items. Also, though I find invoice entry to be fairly intuitive, I wish there were some tweaks to make it more fluid. When you have a stack of invoices to enter, you need to be able to move fast. Currently, the program requires you to back-out of every finished invoice, click actions, "receive with new invoice," THEN finally starting a new invoice. It would be so much faster if you could just click "save", and then a "new invoice" button right there. **Recommendations to others considering MarketMan:** Recommended for someone who will benefit from a modern, portable software. There is a lot this product can do, and definitely act as an all-in-one solution for a lot of the restaurant accounting I am responsible for! I personally have not found the most value in having MM enter invoices for me, so that would be something I have (so far) not been able to recommend, so if that is the biggest draw then perhaps reconsider. **What problems is MarketMan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Communicating between the POS and MM is very helpful and generally very accurate. A lot of this information gets used by me (the Chef), our accountant, office assistant, and FOH management. This system has allowed for all of us to understand what is going on very easily, while also interacting with our Toast POS software. ### 36. Then the way to keep costs with each of the recipes and updates on them as the price per product added on each. The taxes when you update all the information is amazing the accuracy. Then if you have daily changes on recipes or new daily meals is amazing on how in 5 minutes you will have a proper information to decide if is a good decision or not, so even for promotions on your daily way to do strategy will help you so you can have full control. The waste is exact and is easy to create, plus it does includes the way to put mermas, so the exactitud is really reliable.
