## About MarginEdge
MarginEdge is a restaurant management software that uses the power of both POS and invoice data to show you your food and labor costs in real-time - enabling you to make impactful decisions in the moment. MarginEdge radically streamlines key activities like invoice entry and approval, inventory, ordering, recipe costing and bill payment, while providing powerful tools to run your BOH like live budget and cost-tracking, recipe analysis and sales reporting. Made for both the operator and their bookkeeper, MarginEdge currently integrates with 50+ POS systems and 15 accounting systems. As a team built by former (and current!) restaurant operators, part of our mission is to bring operators the same energy, attention to detail, and passion that they bring to their guests. Our culture is deeply rooted in service, partially because that’s where so many of our team came from, but also because we believe it is just the right way to run a business. We design our software with profound empathy for the complexity of running a restaurant, and the goal of making the magic just a little easier for operators by taking the complex (read: very annoying) back office tasks off their plate, while empowering them with real-time data. **What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

I love that MarginEdge does all the heavy lifting for us with recipe costing and up-to-date ingredient prices. We can see real-time costs, track over 180 recipes, and catch price changes instantly. Shared access between locations is a huge time saver, and having everything in one place lets us focus on cooking and creativity rather than spreadsheets.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

There were a couple of errors during initial setup, like incorrect flour and olive oil entries that inflated recipe costs. However, these were easy to catch and fix with the new item review feature, and it hasn’t been a recurring issue since then.

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MarginEdge saves us time on paperwork every day. Before MarginEdge, we had to cost out our recipes and update prices by hand, which left us with less time in the kitchen and often made for even longer days. Now that we have that time back, we can spend more time creating dishes, training staff, and helping with prep.

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

I love how MarginEdge gives us daily visibility into our budgets and finances, making it easy to spot problems before they get out of hand. The budgeting feature is incredibly easy to set up and use, even across multiple restaurants. Bill pay has saved me countless hours each week, and the onboarding team was supportive and flexible to our needs.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

Initially, I felt some anxiety about onboarding due to the complexity of our recipes and multi-unit setup, but the MarginEdge team made the process smooth and were very accommodating, so my concerns were quickly addressed.

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MarginEdge gives my management team in both the HOH and FOH the tools they need to track spending daily against the budgets we’ve set. This has significantly reduced spending and encourages ongoing conversations when there’s a need to go beyond the budget.

I love the real-time P&L reporting, which lets us make immediate decisions and share data with owners instantly. The recipe costing tool is invaluable for our chefs, and the Spanish-language feature empowered our kitchen managers to fully own their processes. The automated inventory, especially for our bar program, has made tracking precise and seamless.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

Changing processes across 11 locations was tricky at first, but MarginEdge made the transition simple. I really don't have any major complaints about the software itself—just the usual challenges of getting a large team to adapt to something new.

Invoice tracking and processing, seamless data connection to accounting, and real-time budgeting and cost reporting, along with many other features such as streamlining bill pay and inventory management.

I love how MarginEdge lets me handle invoices from anywhere—just snap a picture and it's uploaded, which saves tons of time. The recipe tool is a game changer, showing me real-time ingredient costs and helping me adjust menu pricing on the fly. The support team really understands restaurants and is always ready to help analyze my numbers.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

It took a bit of time at first to realize just how much data was available in the system. There was a bit of a learning curve getting into the rhythm of using all the features, but once I got used to it, it made everything easier.

I love that MarginEdge gives me a single place to view every business transaction in real time across all my units. The just-in-time data is incredibly valuable, and the budget tool helps our accounting team stay on track with financial goals. It’s clear the platform was built by people who understand the restaurant industry, and it’s deeply integrated into our workflow, making us more efficient and improving recipe execution.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

Honestly, there are no cons to the system from my perspective. The immediacy and efficiency it brings have only benefited my operations, and I haven't found any downsides after years of use.

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Margin Edge benefits us in so many ways - my favorite is the historical data and time it reduces in investigating old issues.  I also enjoy being able to see things instantaneously and to get a real sense of COGS purchases in real time

Its a very good toll for daily operations!~

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

I absolutely love how easy MarginEdge made building our back end inventory system, even for someone like me who isn't super tech-savvy. The Smart Scale for the bar is a game changer—it’s so simple to use, just scan and weigh, and it gives us gram-level accuracy. I finally have full confidence in our inventory numbers and can tie every dollar spent by guests directly to our stock. The smooth transition and ease of use across all locations has been incredible.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

Honestly, there isn’t much I dislike. Setting up a new inventory system for a four-year-old restaurant is never easy, but MarginEdge made it as smooth as possible. If I had to mention anything, it would just be the initial challenge of transitioning from old processes, but that’s more about our situation than the product itself.

Seeing real numbers in real time is essential. In this day and age, if you don’t have standard operating procedures and you can’t look at all your numbers laid out clearly—so you know what needs to be fixed—you won’t survive.

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

I love how MarginEdge lets us upload invoices and use bill pay, which saves a ton of time. Instead of hunting down paper invoices, entering them into spreadsheets, and manually paying bills, we just take pictures and everything is processed. It gives us real-time visibility into costs, helps us make smarter decisions, and lets my managers spend more time with our team and guests.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

We were initially skeptical about outsourcing bill pay, especially because margins are so thin in the restaurant industry. Trusting an outside company with this part of the business was a big leap, but so far it's worked out well. No other significant downsides have stood out to me.

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps with bill pay, tracking invoices, and viewing P&L almost in real time. I also use it for liquor and wine inventory, and for quickly searching product pricing when I need it.

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

I love how MarginEdge has completely streamlined our accounting and bill pay processes. The integration with our POS and QuickBooks saves me hours every week, cuts down on manual entry errors, and makes sharing financial data with our management team much easier. The onboarding was simple, customer support is phenomenal, and we've seen a 4-5% reduction in our cost of goods. It's user-friendly and accurate, and the support team is always responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

Honestly, I haven't encountered any major issues with MarginEdge so far. The transition from our previous software was smooth, and the support team helps with any unique issues quickly. There isn't really anything I dislike at this point.

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MarginEdge helps us stay on top of fluctuations in product costs, like crabmeat. It lets us adjust our menu pricing and ordering as needed, so we can avoid cutting into our profit.

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

The most helpful for me is pricing information and food cost. Taking in inventory is a breeze so easy to go back in correct and find the problems. It attracts the usage of each item in the menu costing cards.
Handling of the invoices super easy it’s pretty seamless from receiving it all the way to being paid through my accountant. I can go back and find invoices with so much ease.
It doesn’t matter what system you’re on whether you’re on the 13 period or a monthly basis you can pretty much pull up whatever kind of report you want to see as far as product sales
I’ve tried some of the other software‘s nothing compares to MarginEdge . I am a customer for life.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

the difficult part for me was learning the terminology that they use and how they break Products down for costing cards

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With all the different products and food items that come in the back door, it tracks the price of each one of them and gives me the effect that items price has on my food cost
I’m able to separate and run reports for all the different categories on my PL food cost and non alcoholic beverages,  janitorial supplies, paper product, it does it all for me with easy.

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

Having the invoices being ingested then being able to do inventory, receipes and other functions with the items that are available. There is a lot of very nice features but they take time to setup and understand. Looking forward to future updates.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

The mobile application lacks a lot so it requires you to log into the web site for most of the functionality. A few of the features are complex and take a little time to get used to.

We are using it for item (food / liquor) pricing, inventory, recipies and accountable of items (food / liquor) that were not rang into the POS and are missing.

I love that I can contact someone directly and MarginEdge is always very efficient to respond and help me out. All the help articles are detailed but still digestible and easy to understand.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

I wish there were more features available in the mobile app. Specifically in editing invoices that are Pending approval. It can be a pain to have to locate a computer just to make those quick changes.

MarginEdge has made invoicing and accounting SO much more efficient for me and my team. Being able to show each of our restaurant managers how the low of invoices moves through our departments has connected us all.

It's a strong tool to help us with our restaurant business. We can go to marginedge for pricing out menu items as well as for price alerts, menu analysis, inventory, bill pay and inventory among other things!

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

There are a few bugs in the system particularly with their recipe builder.

I use marginedge weekly for ordering, pricing, and analysis. It's great to have this all under one roof, and that MarginEdge integrates with Toast, our POS.

I like that you can centralize all concepts within one platform. You can order directly from the site if the purveyor you use will accept those orders via email.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

Mapping. If you ring a sales item and you have the recipe in the system it should automatically map it. I also dislike there are so many issues with invoice transcriptions.

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm not aware that they are currently working on anything but integration. I wish they would focus on making the whole process more streamlined. Also that they would have a program that piggy backs to keep their staff from spelling items wrong or abbreviating them in a way that makes looking for products impossible.

1. the Best thing about ME is the quality of the bills with Lineitem they process
2. Export Funcitility
3. Easy Integration with Accounting Software
4. Bills pay, Recipe, and Inventory management are add-on things
5. Purchase History report and Budget

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

1. They took 48 hours and sometimes more than that to process a bill. this needs improvement. when bills do not have lien items they should be processed earlier. right now we are not able to set up Vendor.
2. More elaborative details of the export error or issue 
3. in QBO, if the classes are set up. there should be an option to process bills in class or update/change the class.
4. Labot module is missing

ME solving mostly for all restaurant industry needs except the Labor module. would like to appreciate for bill processing process.

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

It helps track all of our sales and invoices. It provides a mean of organization while also having other features that may benefit us from a business and utilization aspec.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

The app can be buggy at times. As we continue to add MarginEdge into our everyday use, there's times where  I personally see things like invoices not always going through or the app glitching out on me and preventing me from using certain uses.

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping us keep track of invoices and eventually we want to keep track of our inventory when it comes to beer, wine, and liquor. It also gives us a good measure on how we are budgeting as a business.

User friendly system. Great to manage inventory, specially with more than one store and transferring products from one another.

Inventory ease of use. And figuring out cost of menu items is simplified.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

A lot of mistakes on order input. I.e., 2 different orders of the same vinegar get labelled two different names. And quite a few misspellings from the folks typing in inputs. Would prefer to be able to edit the recipe cards to my liking, and I wish that I could print a "tuesday order guide." Could be that I'm used to creating my own programs and that your product is just fine for what it is.

Helps create an easy to use inventory sheet that is fairly easy to edit.

The automatic upload of invoices is a great time saver. If you have enough time to upload all your recipes the variance tracking is great. You should bring on consultants you can refer to help upload recipes for clients.

Customer service team is not great. Condisending and lack humility. Also the product upload can be wrong fairly often.

I can quickly view sales, product, inventory, and cost data all in one place.

Some of the features require some time to learn and at times I need to contact support/help desk to figure things out.  They have always answered the questions.

All data on hand quickly and in one place.  Saves me a lot of time.   Also saves me time when I am entering invoices.

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

Where to start?  From the very beginning, our overall experience with Margin Edge has been outstanding. The sales team allowed us to proceed with product evaluation at our own pace, without ever being rushed. The implementation team was extraordinary -- they did most all of the "hard work" and then just trained us on use of the software and relevant features.  Oh, and the technology/platform is extraordinary and continues to evolve/improve with the addition of more robust features - it has literally changed our company, and we're just scratching the surface of ME functionality.  Finally, and perhaps most important, the ME team is an incredible group of people:  smart; easy to work with; responsive; and as dedicated to customer service as they are technological enhancement.  Wish I'd found them 3 years before I did!

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

At some point ME customer support will have to expand beyond "bankers hours" (weekdays 9-5) given significance of weekend restaurant activity.  But for now they more than make up for it with their service during the week.

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In a matter of days following implementation, Margin Edge increased our accounting and financial reporting efficiencies by a literal order of magnitude; it has also reduced human error associated with prior data-entry activities and enhanced our reporting processes.  The software is also sufficiently nimble to accommodate changes in our own systems, like the new online platform we are in the process of launching.

We now run inventories and can identify issues leading to higher food costs.  We don't need to worry about over portioning or other loss as the software can help us identify the problems so we can solve them.  We have our recipes in and they are compared to our sales to make sure we our costs are hitting our target

Nothing I can think of.  We don't have any issues.

It is super easy to set up.  Your staff only needs to scan invoices.  You will need your recipes for everything you sell.

We know our actual food costs by comparing recipes of products to the purchases of product and sales of menu.

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

I own accounting service that had sworn off doing restaurant work because of the vast amount of paper involved. Most of my time was spent tracking down Sales and COGS info and could never do any real analysis. A couple years ago I discovered Orderly and used that service for a year or so until they eliminated the integration with QuickBooks Online. I went searching and found MarginEdge. It. Changed. Everything.

There are so many great features it's hard to list them all... MarginEdge eliminates so much data entry, tracking down invoices, tracking down item prices, integrates with so many POS systems, integrates with QuickBooks Online and the Bill Pay service is AMAZING!! I also love that after scanning the invoices I can toss the paper, everything is in one place!

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

Hard to list any dislikes here. The software is so helpful.

**Recommendations to others considering MarginEdge:**

My only advise is to get started a soon a possible. The set up take a little time, but once it's set up, it runs itself. You'll be amazed.

Not only does it help me take care of the avalanche of paper I used to have to deal with on a daily basis, but now we can get real Food cost, ingredient pricing alerts, etc. And I can deliver financials fast! My clients think I'm a genius.

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

At the end of the day, most of the systems in this line are pretty much the same. It really come down to ease of use and service. 
Can I use the product effectively and if I can't can I get help to use it. 
Margin Edge is really on top of the game here, especially when it comes to service. Usually any issues are resolved within 24 hours.

**What do you dislike about MarginEdge?**

Sometimes the OCR does not pick up on the super complicated invoices. Especially when it comes to 1 item with multiple colors and sizes but to be fair, I also have problem reading those invoices.

**Recommendations to others considering MarginEdge:**

Make sure that you understand your part in setting up the product. If you are not dedicated to write out the recipes or uploading the invoices or do inventory, then it won't work.

**What problems is MarginEdge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Polling daily sales numbers from POS is a great tool and save time on manual entry. 
Using inventory to track what button is being push or being typed in to track requests flowing through the bar/kitchen - How many time did James write in "Extra Chicken" over a week of time and why did James continued to do it? 
Theoretical to see what was suppose to use and what is being used and use that information to push back to inventory corrections, invoice corrections, recipe corrections, plate build corrections...etc...

**What do you like best about MarginEdge?**

MarginEdge is easy to use and is a great tool for keeping a close eye on all aspects of my business. I look at it every day to track cost of goods, labor cost and the price of products that come in. It's very useful in pinpointing loss. MarginEdge is also a great tool on the bookkeeping and accounting side of things - we have been able to manage additional venues with the same office staff because much of the heavy work has been taken off their plates.

Not much that I don't like. The set up is a lot of work, but ME helped us get up and running. We looked at similar software and all of them had a lot of set up work that had to be done.

Tracking cost of goods, and P&L on an almost daily basis has been a huge help. The invoice upload function allows us to handle more venues with less office staff. Pinpointing loss quickly .

They input your invoices for you, so our managers are spending more time on the floor and less time in the office. The Recipe data base is used for kitchen reference AND Target costs, so we don't have to maintain two separate recipe databases any longer. The integration with our accounting software is best in class - literally.

Their reporting functionality is sufficient, but could definitely be enhanced.

Target vs. Actual costs, lowering admin time, lowering COGS, quicker time to close periods, quicker (instant) performance numbers.
