For our use case, Legatics was. despite its promise, very little upside and quite a lot of downside. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We used the platform for a year and, on the general side, we simply did not see the time savings that we’d have expected based on the sales ptich and demo we were given. In fact, using Legatics only added work on both our part and that of our counterparties, to the extent that our counterparties avoided using it in favor of simply sending documents back abd ===nd forth by email.
As a smaller transactional practice with a more diverse client and counterparty base, we don't have the luxury of having our own dedicated Legatics paralegals running deals on the platform, who then interact with other larger firms with similar capabilities.
We turned to Legatics as a way to compensate for not having that capacity in the belief that it would allow deal-level lawyers to manage their own projects. This never came to fruition. We ended up abandoning Legatics on each transaction as its use greatly increased, rather than reduced, the time and effort required to run our deals.
Some of the specific issues we experienced included:
- cumbersome and time-consuming management process for permission settings for larger volume deals
- notifications for users were not frequent enough as a default setting and were only controllable by the users themselves after navigation of various menus. In the midst of a busy transaction, you can’t wait until the next day to hope that someone will download your latest document version and review it.
- creating the all-important checklist was cumbersome and they were not customizable enough. This was made worse by glitches we discovered that weren't satisfactorily solved despite significant interaction with Legatics support
- repetitive sign-ins were frustrating for both us and third-party users; access required having to sign in EVERY SINGLE TIME, with regular time-outs.
On the whole, the platform just never made our lives easier and we just didn’t see it being useful to deploy for the kinds of transactions we do, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
