**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I like that I can do A/B testing emails and scheduling emails with Customer.io. The A/B testing helps us determine which email content is more attractive and can make customers sign up for our plans. We can select the best email template to increase conversions. The scheduling email feature helps me avoid maintaining manual cron jobs, which is excellent.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

So far, I haven’t found anything I dislike.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Customer.io helps me schedule emails, eliminating the need for cron jobs. I can define flows, set time intervals, call webhooks, and send transaction emails. A/B testing boosts conversions by optimizing email content, and scheduling saves me from manual maintenance.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I use Customer.io for all our transactional and lifecycle marketing communications. It handles marketing touchpoints in a way that is easy and intuitive to set up and use. I really like the level of customization such as workflow configurability, AI enablement, and having multiple workspaces. This allows us to mold Customer.io specifically to our business needs. I'm currently using Customer.io's new MCP URL to assist in reporting and other tasks. Having multiple workspaces helps us split out our business lines easily and keep things neatly organized. The initial setup was very easy, and we had help implementing the platform from start to finish.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I really wish Customer.io had a 'optimize send time' option that used previous send times and open/engagement rates to determine when to send, rather than just an AI-educated guess.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Customer.io for all our transactional and lifecycle marketing communications. It provides an intuitive platform for email and push notifications. The customization and multiple workspace features allow us to tailor it to fit our business needs perfectly, enhancing organization and ease of use.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I use Customer.io for everything email-related like marketing and transactional emails. I appreciate that Customer.io helps our company deliver emails reliably at scale while allowing for strong control over targeting, personalization, segmentation, and automation. It's also extremely valuable to communicate with users in different languages, and Customer.io makes this process easy for us. The UI is designed in a way that facilitates making adjustments, A/B testing, and improving performance constantly. When I joined the team, I found the initial setup to be straightforward and similar to other ESP tools, which made it accessible right from the start.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

One thing that can be improved would be to have a detailed analytics tab for each individual email in the automated campaigns. This tab should include not just basic KPIs, but detailed metrics, such as emails sent, delivered, bounced, etc., grouped for each individual email.

Customer.io helps our company reliably deliver emails at scale, with strong control over targeting, personalization, segmentation, and automation. It's valuable for communicating in different languages, making it easy to adjust, A/B test, and improve email performance.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I use Customer.io for internal newsletters, and I appreciate that it's more visual than other platforms. I love how it allows embedding of media, colored backgrounds, and hyperlinks, which enhances the look of my newsletters. The readability is fantastic, and being able to embed videos directly, rather than linking to YouTube, is a big plus. The initial setup of Customer.io was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I can't add Outlook mailing lists, so I have to send to myself and then forward, which means I can't use the analysis tools.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I use Customer.io for building out campaigns and sending newsletters to our consumers. I like how simple it is to drag and drop when building emails. I also enjoy how integrated it is with our platform. Plus, I enjoy the overview of dashboards to see how everything is running at once.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

The first thing I don't like is when I create an A/B test, I can't copy over the one email into a new workflow. It copies and pastes the whole test. The second thing I don't like is that I can't copy a block/row from one email into another. The third thing I don't like is that it doesn't always call out when a liquid doesn't work in the email and rather just leaves the liquid in the copy. The fourth thing I don't enjoy is that I can't set default fonts, sizes, padding, etc. I also don't like that I can't remove people from a suppressed list.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I like the way we can build workflows with Customer.io. There's a lot of flexibility in terms of how you build workflows that incorporate both event attributes and user attributes. This allows for really personalized and logical messaging. Also, with the recent addition of the LLM node, we can try to make the content of the emails more powerful.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I think the biggest is organization of campaigns. I don't think the discovery and organization of the campaigns is as organized as it can be. And as intuitive as it can be. Apart from that, broadcasts don't have similar functionality like campaigns do. I think it'd be good to have some parity there and maybe unify them a bit so that we're still able to trigger these in the right ways.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I like that I can use the drag and drop, and I like that I have both a newsletter and a campaign. I also appreciate that I can use different workspaces for different audiences.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

First of all, it's really hard to do segmentation. For example, in one workspace, I have an audience and I wanna segment them based on when they joined our list, and I can't do that, at least not easily. Secondly, drag and drop is a bit clunky. There are actions there that aren't easy to navigate, a lot of unnecessary clicks. It's not very natural. There must be an easier, simpler way to use the design part. I had to have my developer setting this app for me. So that's not great that I can't do it myself.

I use Customer.io to send bulk emails and campaigns, addressing the need to communicate regularly with all our users.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I really like how easy it is to create components and reuse them across emails in such an intuitive way. I also appreciate how simple it is to switch between designing the desktop and mobile versions of an email.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I think a few features are still missing. For example, it would be really helpful to have the option to add an image slider or carousel. A countdown timer would also be a great addition, especially for e-commerce platforms using customer.io that want to send emails with time-sensitive offers. We usually end up coding these into components ourselves, but it’s a hassle, and sometimes it doesn’t work properly, so we abandon the idea and go with something simpler.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s a great tool for saving time when creating an email flow. You can preset the segments you want to send the email to, and you can also copy older emails and make a few basic changes to create an entirely new one. Overall, it’s a really effective way to streamline the process and save time.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I really like how Customer.io allows us to segment users based on events, user attributes, and behavioral data, enabling us to create both simple and very complex, targeted journeys. It works great for lifecycle campaigns, like onboarding, retention, upselling. It's convenient to have email, in-app, and push notifications all from the same platform, ensuring that we reach customers without jumping between tools. The design studio has been really helpful for us to design emails, and it's great that they listen to our feedback to build new features and options. It's been improving really fast over the last few months.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I think analytics is the key area where the platform feels a bit limited. We do have key data like opens and clicks, but I would like more complete reports. It's been hard to integrate Customer.io data with custom reports or external analytics tools without additional technical information or support. I'm trying to integrate it with Looker Studio to build custom dashboards, but it's been really hard to configure that integration without help. In particular, the in-app messaging could be improved to be able to configure more complex rules to avoid users to get multiple messages within the same session.

I find Customer.io quite beneficial primarily for In-App Messaging campaigns. The campaign setup and configuration are pretty straightforward, which makes it operationally critical for how we engage our customers. Accessing some of the APIs is both convenient and useful, particularly for reporting and analysis outside of Customer.io dashboards and reports. Additionally, the initial setup was easy enough.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

The A/B testing setup was a bit confusing when I looked at it a while back. So maybe that could be simplified. I would love it if I could more easily associate an internal campaign ID to a Customer.io campaign, so that when I call the API, the relationship could exist. For example, a campaign user space that allowed campaign level data entry / capture that could then be retrieved through the API.

I use Customer.io for lifecycle management, user re-engagement, and new user offers. The setup and configuration are operationally critical, and the APIs are useful for reporting and analysis beyond Customer.io's dashboards.

Sure, the best part is the ease of the user interface. I also love that it's based on experiments, which makes it really easy to measure what works best and move towards that. What I also find very good is the AI agent, which also works well.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

Perhaps Customer.io can be more integrated into guides and sanity checks. Also, it seems that more templates and proposals for similar campaigns are needed.

I like Customer.io's clean UI and AI agent. The AI agent allows me to debug things easily and handle a lot of repetitive manual work without making mistakes. I also enjoy the flexibility to run campaigns the way I want to.

The AI agent and the entire system lag a lot. The UI/UX can be misleading sometimes, like how API broadcasts can't be scheduled and have to be manually triggered if not done through an API itself.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I appreciate Customer.io's very rich feature set. There's just a lot of things you can do, like emailing users, potential users, managing newsletters, and implementing system messages. I think the segmenting features have potential to increase the power of my messaging. Additionally, the setup was pretty straightforward, and it's integrated with PostgreSQL, allowing us to flow in our website data. I've already recommended Customer.io to another company where I'm a fractional employee.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

The segmenting is hard to understand. It might be because I'm unfamiliar with this type of segmenting, but it is difficult to understand how to assign traits to people in my database so that I could segment them.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

CIO makes syncing Salesforce data into your customer.io instance straightforward. I appreciated being able to use advanced filtering during the sync process, which allowed us to exclude data we didn't want to import into customer.io. This was especially helpful for keeping us within our contact limit. 
When we needed assistance with setting up this filtering, we contacted customer support and were very pleased with both the promptness of their response and the effectiveness of their solutions. 
While we primarily use customer.io for its email sending and reporting features, I can also see the value in leveraging it to integrate data from multiple sources.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

We are currently using Customer.io as our email sending platform for a business that manages multiple customer types within the same workspace. Each audience requires its own subscription center; however, Customer.io only supports one subscription center per workspace, so we’ve had to build an external solution to handle that need.

Another limitation we encountered was the lack of reply-based message management (RMM). Unlike our previous ESPs, Customer.io does not automatically unsubscribe contacts who reply with “STOP” or “Unsubscribe.” We had to develop a custom workaround for this as well.

When migrating our suppression list from our previous ESP, we were informed by support that we could not upload it as a true suppression list. Instead, we had to import it as a list of contacts marked as Unsubscribed. This approach caused those contacts—who should not be emailed—to count toward our total contact volume. It was also confusing to see conflicting information between the support team and the online documentation, which suggested that suppression lists could be imported by contacting support. Ultimately, we imported the list as unsubscribed contacts and repeated the process for each workspace.

Additionally, the help documentation can be sparse, particularly when troubleshooting specific issues. The AI chatbot doesn’t always provide accurate or complete guidance and could benefit from further development. On a positive note, when we’ve reached out directly, the Customer.io support team has been responsive and helpful.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are now able to combine Salesforce CRM data with many other data sources. In the past, we had a hard time reconciling contacts into unified profiles.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

Customer.io has been an awesome marketing tool and it has always served us right. From customization to ease of using and understanding Customer.io, everything is right about the tool.
It allows personalization marketing and this increases the success rate of our marketing efforts. In addition, it comes with smooth SMS Marketing features and also handles mobile marketing really well.
With Customer.io, we get to enjoy best marketing automation capabilities and I must admit all of its features works perfectly.

For smooth marketing, Customer.io has been awesome and no complaints whatsoever.

I like the A/B test feature and being able to connect custom product data to trigger different events. It helps me test different CTAs and see what drives the biggest conversion. The initial setup was pretty easy.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

The autosaving can be better and the email builder has pretty specific requirements on spacing and fonts. It should save every time I edit, and the email builder would be cool if I could prompt it and it autoadjusts for me.

I like that Customer.io has very powerful automation options and allows creating many types of content based on the user's interaction with the tool.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

The UX/UI of content writing is complicated. I have tried many other tools (Mailchimp, Brevo) and the design when creating content is hardly intuitive. Simplify options, basically, and perhaps review the naming of the sections. The initial setup was laborious. It was not easy.

I use Customer.io for onboarding campaigns and sending newsletters. It helps reach many users and send personalized messages according to their needs.

The ease of use to get started and and the scalability of the tool are impressive. It is very straightforward to integrate your data and get started or slowly improve your capabilities as you get more comfortable.

The single grievance I have with the tool is around how date operators work. There is quite a bit of "over-engineering" required to target customers whether it be in a segment or in a campaign to date/time-based activities

That day was Christmas Eve.

This felt dishonest.
No flexibility. No good-faith resolution.

There are plenty of other solutions out there. 

Avoid this dishonest platform.

Once I got the hang of Customer.io, the design process wasn't too tedious even though it's not the most user-friendly. I handle design and content, and I've managed to work within its limitations.

It's not the most user-friendly, and the design process can be limiting. We've had issues with Customer.io emails hurting our email reputation, which put us in a terrible spot. The solutions provided were difficult and took months to implement. It's an overly complex tool at times. The initial setup was very difficult due to the large database of customer emails we had to import.

Customer.io helps me send messages to large groups, but issues with email reputation required complex workarounds. Design can be limiting, and setup was tough with a large database. I persist with Customer.io to avoid switching headaches.

I appreciate that they are continually improving the product, especially with their investment in the Design Studio. I love the ability to make custom templates and the no-code builder, which makes it easy for all our designers to jump in and contribute when needed. The Design Studio also allows us to curate brand-relevant designs and update them easily. Additionally, the initial setup was easy for me, likely due to my prior Mailchimp experience.

When creating campaigns or broadcasts, segments are not visible, and I have to go to the segment tab and check again. It would be helpful to have the ability to preview the segment details in the campaign or newsletter itself, as a quick preview to do a cross-check, especially in the review stage.

This platform is very powerful and has robust features allowing us to have a lot of options in how we want to build campaigns, workflows, and segments. For the majority of projects, as long as we can think of setting something up, customer.io allows us to do so.

Often times it can get laggy and slow, especially for larger campaigns. Every few weeks I encounter issues with 1-2 hours where the entire platform is slow in loading screens which can be frustrating.

Automating communication reminders for our members is the main problem it's solving. This allows us to scale more efficiently and not rely on manual outreach, saving time for our team. I think when I do a broadcast to send out an email, the four-step setup can be confusing, especially the last step where you decide to send now or schedule. It makes you feel like if you don't change something, your email will go out scheduled without you knowing. I'd like that last page to make it more clear that you can leave it for later, and it won't automatically schedule your email.

Customer.io is very powerful and intuitive for designing email campaigns for users from a beginning welcome series to sending out one off transactional emails based on various conditions. Customer.io definitely excels in making it easy to track and use attributes assigned to customers. In addition any time I've had any issues their customer support is top notch.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

It can be somewhat expensive for a smaller company that doesn't send out a large volume of emails. The pricing is determined by the number of customers you have, which I find less than ideal, since it feels like you're penalized for having more users, even if you aren't emailing all of them. They do recommend removing inactive or unresponsive users from customer.io, but managing this process is inconvenient, and you never know when you might want to contact those users again. While there are certainly ways to work around this, it still feels like a significant frustration and a kind of penalty for small, growing companies. It would make more sense to focus on the number of emails or notifications sent, rather than the size of your user base.

CIO has been evolving quickly and intuitively, effectively becoming the forcing function at our end to catch up. The visual workflow builders, AI automations and the granular control the platform has been giving over complex journeys and campaigns is unmatched. I've been using the tool for 2+ years now and I’ve never had any complaints. Beyond everything, as a marketer, I think the company as a brand does amazing work - it applies B2C principles of communication seamlessly to an otherwise boring B2B category. It's been a pleasure.

If the platform help with data hygiene and there was more control over segmenting beyond the two set identifiers, it would make a world of difference.

As an organization, we've moved from Pardot into Customer.io so I have been able to better tailor our messaging and automate more of our processes. It's made a huge difference in how we engage with our audience as we can create more personalized campaigns, track customer behavior, and really dive deep into segmentation. The flexibility and ease of use have made my job much easier, and it's helping us connect with our users in a more meaningful way, which has led to better engagement and results. The fact that it isn't as tedious-seeming as SalesForce makes the overall experience quite pleasant.

In-product features are not as robust. For example, when building campaigns, it's difficult to branch off paths from different behaviors. And when building segments, sometimes I have to create multiple segments and combine in a master segment instead of building in one. Lastly, our support level was downgraded from having a team of CSMs to only support.

I have been using Customer.io for a year and a half in two different jobs. I find it to be a super intuitive tool for managing multichannel communications like email, in-app notifications, push notifications, SMS, and webhook. I love that it allows you to create communication flows that integrate well with user actions and our communications. This helps to be more precise in contacting leads and customers. Additionally, it offers detailed metrics of the sends. Its user-friendly interface makes the complex seem easy and quick to understand, and the communication flows work quite well, greatly helping to automate sends.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

The design studio still has room for improvement, especially because it does not allow for quick replication of content blocks, like copying and pasting between different emails. Currently, the same block must be manually constructed in each email. Additionally, I would like the uploaded images to be compressed and the preheader setup in campaigns to be improved. Also, the initial setup took time and a full-time developer, which still causes some issues, especially in the setup of push notifications.

Sometimes it's slow
Don't like that much the many agents and AI features
Some custom events don't have that much information in segementation
User data dissapearing every 30 days

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Desgin studio - really helpful and a better way of working
Changes in triggers and updates in campaigns - being able to change your mind amist building a campaign
Copying between workspaces - a really time saving feature

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I like how powerful and flexible the automation system in Customer.io is. The workflow builder makes designing customer journeys incredibly easy, whether they are simple drip sequences or complex, multi-step flows. Everything is visual, logical, and easy to adjust. Once a workflow is created, the system handles everything automatically, so I don't have to manually send anything or track who needs what. The initial setup was fairly smooth and straightforward, with clear documentation that guides you through the basics like connecting your data source and setting up events. After mapping the events and attributes correctly, building the first workflow and sending test messages was simple.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

The learning curve can be steep. Because the platform is so flexible, it can take time for new users to understand all the features, especially advanced workflow logic and segmentation rules. Reporting could be deeper. The analytics are good for basic insights, but more detailed reporting—like journey-level analytics, funnel views, and cross-campaign comparisons—would make optimization easier. Visual builder sometimes feels crowded. When a workflow becomes large with many branches, the visual layout can get cluttered and harder to navigate. Testing complex flows is challenging. Testing multi-branch journeys or event-triggered steps can require extra effort, and sometimes the test results aren’t as clear as they could be. One area that could further enhance the platform is more real-time validation and previews inside the workflow builder.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Customer.io for automating communication, reducing manual follow-ups, sending personalized messages, and managing all messaging in one place. It's improved customer engagement, increased conversion rates, and the automation handles everything once a workflow is created, freeing me from manual tasks.
