## Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) Reviews
  ### 1. User-friendly & easy adoption for all of our data users

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Théo C. | Réserviste opérationnel 👮, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

The lineage feature has made data discovery much simpler, and connecting to different data sources is an easy process.
I also find the Search & SQL AI agent to be a highly useful tool.
Having a single, unified platform for our entire data environment has turned out to be extremely powerful.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

One limitation is that we are unable to connect other AI agents directly to the Catalog knowledge.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It addresses several needs: data search is enhanced by lineage tracking, which makes it easier to trace data origins.
The AI assists with research and helps generate SQL queries upon request. However, there is no single source of truth, which can be a drawback.
Additionally, it provides documentation for tables and columns, making it easier to understand the data structure.

  ### 2. A great tool to organize and explain your data hub

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Using CastorDoc is very simple and intuitive. It is a powerful tool for data governance in a company as it can be used to provide comprehensive information about any data objects, from the connections between database tables, to how a column is generated, to business rules used in data transformations, to reports/dashboards descriptions.

I truly like the diagram-like lineage view for tables and columns particularly, that easily show how data objects are created. These are very useful for sharing knowledge and onboard new team members / stakeholders.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

So far, I haven't found negative aspects of CastorDoc relevant enough to share.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CastorDoc is helping me find information I need regarding the database and the definitions of fields used in (un)common reports easily.
It is also very useful for onboarding new team members to let them know about the data models we use.

  ### 3. Good software to use.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Integration with slack makes it easy to use. Whenever I want info about any data I just have to mentioned castor about it and it gives me result about that particular data

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Nothing as of now. I didnot face any issue

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data of any category we can easily find via castorDoc

  ### 4. The best data library

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Whitney W. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor is very straightforward and easy to use, navigate, and search to find our data, determine what it is, and how it's all connected. It's been a vital resource in helping build out and maintain our vast data bank.
I also love that it is continuing to advance its capabilities and features. They are receptive to feedback and requests and make things happen for our use cases.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

A little more automation with copied descriptions would be helpful. There are instances where data is the same and we have to copy and paste multiple times in different areas.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have an immense amount of data coming from different pipes, at different times and Castor helps us understand what that data is, where it comes from, and how it is being utilized. It is a place that any employee, in any department at our organization can go to find what they need.

  ### 5. Great tool, great team

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aymeric D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor has all the essential features to make your data discoverable, self describing and trustworthy.

The navigation through Castor is simple and intuitive, which makes it usable and useful for the whole company (and not only for data people)

The product roadmap is very rich and brings new features to the users every month.

The team is very nice, reactive, helpful and customer-oriented.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

I'd like to have more detailed statistics on the usage of the data catalog to organise the knowledge sections for the best. But I believe that this feature is coming soon...

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Castor helps:
- data governance to promote the official sources of truth among all the data stored in our datawarehouse
- data users to understand where the data comes from, what it means and to use it
- data users to contact data owners
- all the employees to discover the different business entities of their company and get to know the relating key data assets

  ### 6. Great experience working with Castor software and team

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian A. | Director of Data Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

The entire team at Castor has been very collaborative while we worked through the process of starting data governance at our organization. I have felt a high level of communication with timely responses to any of the users' questions our team could come up with. The features promised by Castor include our Data Catalog, Lineage, Governance and Knowledge base are all top-of-the-line tools for our team.

In addition to the things listed above, the Castor team has always been willing to work with our engineers to evaluate new integrations and features that we quickly released in the software. If something is not available today, it will be soon.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Data governance is a challenging conversation to have in any organization. Castor makes this conversation easier once we have information flowing into the software. Many of us could use a playbook to motivate our organization so we can use the tools sooner.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are reducing the time our lean data engineering team spends documenting new objects in our data warehouse. Castor also enables us to use this integrated environment to onboard new analysts. The main benefit is time saved on both data delivery and consumption ends.

  ### 7. Castor: Insights from a Product Analyst's Perspective

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Logistics and Supply Chain | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Efficient and user-friendly, CastorDoc offers excellent document management and strong security features. The customer support is notably responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

For users with specific needs, the addition of more advanced customization options would enhance CastorDoc's versatility. Also, optimizing performance during peak hours could further streamline the user experience.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CastorDoc effectively simplifies accessing and managing data documentation, along with its underlying sources. Its versatility allows for easy sharing of information across teams, enhancing collaboration and efficiency. This feature greatly benefits users by streamlining document handling and communication processes.

  ### 8. Perfect tool for data lineage

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

- Being able to identify the table and column lineage, from the staging tables all the way to the BI tools such as Looker and Power BI
- The popularity index, which allows to identify the most used tables and most viewed dashboards. It has been helping with our deprecation plan.
- The search bar is very powerful because it allows you to filter by table and column names, as well as dashboards.
- The platform is being constantly updated with new features.
- The support team and very responsive and takes into consideration our feedbacks.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

- The column lineage can be helpful to identify if the column is being used downstream. However, if the column is only being used downstream to create new columns, the lineage doesn't idenfity this dependency. This makes it hard to identify any column dependencies if we want to deprecate a staging table.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping us with our deprecation plan, by allowing us to identify which tables and columns are no longer being used in an easy way. It also helps with us with data discovery, because the tool allows us to quickly find the columns that we need to for certain data operations.

  ### 9. Fantastic tool to visualise data assets, definitions and lineage

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mustafa R. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor is helping us enormously in our migration efforts from our old data infrastructure to the new. It is helping us fast-track our delivery in many ways:

1. Identifying assets that are frequently used in the old and prioritising those for migration
2. Identifying unused or minimum used assets for retirement and deprecation
3. Identifying who are the frequent users to assign owners of data assets
4. Identifying impact of changes we intend to make on downstream assets/dependencies

We now have the potential to unify our data definitions across our data assets and avoid duplicating or contradicting definitions.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Product is constantly changing, so sometimes challenging to keep up with the pace. Alongside this change, we have seen some bugs creep in, but Castor has been super efficient in resolving issues that arise.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problems we are trying to solve include:

1. simplification of our data pipelines as we transition from the old (complex and convoluted) data platform to the new
2. consistency and visibility of definitions across all areas of business
3. establishing ownership and governance of data assets

  ### 10. The ultimate data catalog

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor is my go-to tool when I have any doubts about the definition of a field, where to find it or the dependencies it may have.
It's very user friendly and they are adding more and more functionalities that adapt to our needs.
Having this connected with our visualisation tool is an amazing improvement. We can see the most viewed dashboards as well as the data sources they use and a direct link to the dashboard.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

The option to export all downstream nodes of a column or field is not as detailed as it could be (e.g. link to dashboard)

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Where to find the data I need and the definition of it. The lineage is a lifesaver when we want to change any of our core tables.

  ### 11. Fast and easy onboarding for a great documentation tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Delphine S. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Simplicity! It is a time saver to have all my documentation in one place.
The "people" tab is very insightful. Having an overview of all the documentation created by one team is so helpful and inspiring for other teams/regions.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

No complaints yet. Everything went smoothly. I look forward to diving deeper into this fantastic tool to bring my team and knowledge to the next level. I'm sure I'll get all the support needed from Castor if needed.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is very convenient to have access to all documentation from my company across the regions. I can reuse what other teams already create and align more with the global strategy. Starting from scratch is always a pain, and Castor is a reliable tool to avoid move forward faster.

  ### 12. Fantastic tool for data discovery and documentation

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michał P. | Head of Product and Data, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 02, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

The easy to use interface and the speed of finding the relevant assets that you're looking for in your database.
I also really enjoy the score given to each table, lets you prioritize the results of your queries by how often ceratain data is used.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Integration with Snowflake was pretty quick, but we had some issues with syncing our data for a while.
The support was pretty quick and everything works, but sometimes it still shows that the company is new and they have to iron out some details.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's primarily a data exploration tool for people writing SQL in the company - where to find data and which tables to use + a unique feature of Castor: some query inspiration from other users.

  ### 13. Castor is a life saver

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marc A. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor is saving me a lot of time and money. It's like adding another team to your company that is responsible for one of the most important task when growing your database: documentation. This is a life saver, especially for team with a high turnover, its very easy to pick up the database knowledge for new joiners and person not familiar with what another team is doing. It increase a lot the efficiency of going over data. I recommend and the Castor team is amazing!

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Nothing! Castor is really working great so I dont have a negative comment so far. I hope they continue to deliver the same way!

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping to sove documentation and ease of accessing the right information as fast as possible.

  ### 14. Castor: a young data catalogue with a lot of potential

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benjamin M. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Young company with a lot of spirit
People stand behind the product
Good lineage, promising approaches in the area of documentation
Very easy to use
Fast support

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Some areas not yet 100% ready
Problems with very very large queries to display them completely.
Looker lineage if all new Looker features (project import
(project import, refinement, constants etc.) are used

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Documentation of our data and processes
Overview of all existing data
Use of data (who needs the data and how)

  ### 15. What I love about Castor

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor is an amazing solution for sharing information about data, relationships, and business logic with my whole team and beyond. It provides clarity and insights into a lot of our different data processes and keeps them all in one place.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

A current struggle we're facing with Castor is that it is almost entirely self-contained, so we don't have a good way to sync information out to other places where we store documentation. This leads to some level of fragmentation of information sharing across teams.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Castor primarily as a tool for documenting information about our data, its lineage, and then sharing that out to the company. Castor provides that last-mile visibility that we otherwise wouldn't have.

  ### 16. Castor makes my job easier

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor makes data much more accessible and efficient to use. The search allows you to find your data wherever it might live, from source tables to data models to dashboards and reports across various data tools.

As an analyst, I commonly search for fields and tables, using the results to build queries more quickly.

Additionally, Castor offers a robust table and field lineage, allowing quick visual access to data from the source to use in specific data tools, e.g., Looker, and Metabase. These lineage features enable easy evaluation of the downstream impact of data changes.

While I have not done much work with documentation yet, the robust features allowing documentation syncs will make managing field descriptions and other documentation accessible to more users.

Lastly, the team at Castor is a pleasure to work with and is always responsive to feedback and feature requests.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

So far, I have not encountered much not to like. The team at Castor is constantly releasing new and useful features.

It would be helpful to allow the copying of field names in a query format in bulk from the table result pages e.g.
, field_1
, field_2

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Castor makes it possible to search all data assets in one place. The primary benefit for me is the efficiency this brings.

  ### 17. Solid data discovery & catalog tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Levon G. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

The tool provided us a single source of truth for our metrics and created a culture of documentation in our team. On top of that, we get an holistic overview of the dependencies between the tables/dashboards and know how each change could impact downstream/upstream models.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Nothing so far. The only thing I could mention is that we don't have visibility on our data quality processes. The number of tests that failed/succeded over time for example?

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Giving visbility on our data model, what our metrics mean, what dependencies do we have in our dashboards, what are the upstream/downstream data models in our DAG

  ### 18. Business users love castor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

The UI is very smooth and friendly. We thought that we would have trouble with adoption, but everyone keeps coming back to castor because it is very simple and intuitive. They have already incorporated Ai in the product which makes it much better for business users to understand SQL queries

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

At first, Castor did not have all the integrations that we were looking for, but they have built these incredibly quickly

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- misalignment around metrics and KPIs
- Having all our documentation in one centralized place instead of it being scattered across different tools
- Productivity of the data team who receives much less requests since we have incorporated Castor

  ### 19. Castor is a great data cataloging tool for the modern data tech stack. esp for SMBs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Easy integration with the tools I use like Snowflake, Sigma Computing and DBT. Simple and clean user interface

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Many of the integrations are still in their early stages, like Sigma Computing, so there is limited functionality right now.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've built a modern data tech stack from scratch at Strategus over the last 8 months and Castor is an awesome tool to capture knowledge about that tech stack.

  ### 20. Castor is a permanent tab in my browser

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Suzette P. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

- Customer Service: The Castor team is incredibly responsive to feedback and gives us quality attention to better understand use cases.

- Its search yields much more relevant results than the search within any of the individual BI tools I've used.

- Cross-tool lineage is a game changer and enables efficient impact analysis of rapid back-end data changes as well as deprecation of unused data assets with confidence.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Hard to come up with one. More of a feature request, but an item on my wish list would be the ability to filter lineage by BI tool.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Impact analysis of data changes and table documentation.

  ### 21. A great data catalog

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Madeleine J. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

It's really easy to use Castor for data documentation or find informations about our data.
I like the Lineage feature, which allows us to easily see where the data in the dashboards comes from.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

In the past we have had some synchronization problme but the support is always very reactive to fix it. Sometime we need to contact them to perform some actions that are not yet developed in the product.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Castor allows us to have a single source of truth about our data. Employees of teams other than the data team can become more autonomous in understanding and using the data.

  ### 22. Best tool for data democratization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Venture Capital & Private Equity | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Since getting Castor, we've been able to streamline and standardize our data documentation, resulting in improved data discovery and usage. We've also seen a significant reduction in data-related inquiries, which I would estimate at 50% decrease over the past year. This has freed up so much time for our data team!

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

There is nothing that I dislike about Castor

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As we scaled, we were dealing with greater data volumes, and a lot of people could not find their way in the data anymore. The tables were not documented enough, resulting in many recurring questions to the data team. castor completely solved this data discovery problem.

  ### 23. A very good data catalog for our daily life data management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor help me a lot on several administrative task on tables and dash.
It help me to maintain my database as clean as possible, identify dash that are used not accurate data and communicate accross my company regarding documentation.
In addition, they have a very good support and always open to any feedbacks.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

I would like to have more control on data user can see.
Sometime I feel that some process are still very manual, but things are improving a lot.
Also, we're using a lot of markdown in our description. Sometime, the way it is displayed is not that clear.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Castor help me a lot to identify
- unused models
- models that are not fed anymore but still queried
- lineage with Looker

It helps me to win a lot of time for those "administrative" task.

  ### 24. Awesome data dictionary tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clare M. | Manager, Business and Clinical Analytics, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor is super easy to use! We love that it auto-populates definitions for commonly used tables (zendesk, salesforce, etc.). We also love that it tells us which tables are most popular - super helpful when we were just starting to populate our data dictionary, and that it syncs with tools like dbt and looker. Our #1 most favorite part is the lineage tool - it has been incredibly timesaving for us when making logic updates and changes to understand the downstream impact of said changes.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

It took us a little longer than anticipated to get our database synced with castor and automatically refreshing daily. Other than that, no complaints!

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowed us to create and easily maintain a robust data dictionary with table and field level descriptions, lineage, etc. This allows new analyst to onboard more easily and helps existing analysts and data minded folks answer their own questions without having to slack the SME.

  ### 25. Our team loves Castor!

Castor has a very smooth UX and the team is always coming out with great new features like sync back and AI. The company also has a really responsive customer success team as well which has been a huge help!

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

We didn't start with all the integrations we needed, but the team has been adding these quickly - very pleased with how they've addressed

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our organization uses a lot of data and much of it is decentralized. Castor helps us centralize our documentation and improve our data discovery. It has reduced a lot of manual work on our team.

  ### 26. Data Gouvernance

Castor's table and column lineage options are impressive, but a more comprehensive view of data and streamlined metadata export functionality would elevate the platform to a perfect data catalog.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Castor enables easy metadata managment and documentation

  ### 33. Lovely Data Catalog

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jimmy P. | Business Intelligence Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor is a visual appealing "buy" solution for Data Caralog. It comes with vital features like lineage, column level document and also owners etc. these are critical for self service analytics

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

A bit pricy now haha, would also be great if Castor incorporate the elements of data quality and data profiling, which are valuable

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automatically update the schema of tables, ownership, documentation etc

  ### 34. Does what it says, says what it does : Find & Understand your Data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2022

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

With Castor, I can find the relevant data for my analysis in a few clicks. Before that, I had to ask the data engineering team. It was bothering them & it often took 2/3 days before they answered. I am working remotely in another timezone which makes it even harder to get the right information.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Nothing. Castor team is really responsive & worked to add the missing features to the product within weeks.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before Castor my data warehouse was really hard to navigate. People were asking a lot of questions on Slack. When a dashboard broke, I had no idea what happened. Castor helped me with all the problems above. Now, I have a powerful search engine to search based on popularity & filter based on owners, tags etc.

I can identify broken pipelines with the data lineage.

I can reduce the number of Slack messages because people can consult the data documentation that was generated automatically by Castor.

  ### 35. Gives us confidence in data pipeline changes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor has been a game-changer for my team's effectiveness. When our source data changes, we can easily determine which dashboards are affected and which ETL code needs to change.

Castor's velocity in releasing new and improved functionality is impressive; we delight in seeing the new feature announcements.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

This isn't a dislike, more of a feature request. I would like to be able to download the lineage diagrams in a diagram format so I can include them in documents (instead of a screenshot).

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Complete visibility into data usage patterns and dependencies - this allows us to focus on the most crucial work with confidence.

  ### 36. Fantastic Data Catalog Solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2023

Would highly recommend for
1 - automated cross-tool column-level lineage; after a detailed benchmark, best solution on the market
2- documentation automation and push back to the data ecosystem

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Product is changing so fast it's hard to catch-up with updates; although they strived to communicate more on updates

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data catalogue / data governance / data lineage / data discovery / data democratization

  ### 37. Castor has been a game-changer for our team!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor has been instrumental in our migration, deprecation and documentation efforts. The data lineage feature is beloved by our data scientists, analysts and data engineers, and is used practically every day. We love being able to choose common definitions to define fields and assign owners to tables.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

There have been a few bugs and some downtime with the software, but they are also really fast to fix! You should expect a few growing pains, but it means the software is improving quickly!

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our data team was having a really hard time finding tables, understanding their purpose and what fields meant within those tables. It made onboarding slow and we had an exceptional amount of institutional knowledge. Castor allows us to showcase definitions to new employees quickly, and also aids them in understanding how our data is modeled and connected together. Additionally, we have been doing a lot of deprecation work and Castor helps us bad dependencies or deprecate concepts.

  ### 38. Castor Has Been A Game Changer!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carson W. | Sr. Analytics Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Easy to use platform that facilitates self-service for our organization and helps us on our documentation journey. The integrations to our data stack and Data Viz layer have been fantastic. The lineage even assisted in a data recovery effort. Very happy with the solution.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

We have worked with Castor on a few items that can be improved, and their product team has been receptive and responsive. Their releases are more timely and frequent than most. Any dislikes turn into 'likes' quickly.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Documentation for our technical analysts and also bridging over to our business functions for self-service. We have a long journey to get there, but Castor will be along for the ride!

  ### 39. The perfect Data Catalog

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pierre C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

With castor, all the teams using the data platform are completely autonomous. Everything is automated, and we had build a self-service BI tool.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

No real downside, it was easy to setup and everything is automated

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before Castor, we had manual documentation created that was obsolete as soon as it was published. Now, we no more lose time, but we gain it instead.

  ### 40. An amazing time saving tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** William B. | Sr Business Intelligence Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor is an excellent source for schema/table/column definitions to live and is a necessary tool for any company looking to have self-service data for those outside the data team. It saves constant pings to Sr Data members about columns since users can understand the data on their own.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Castor is still young and working on integrations with business intelligence tools. This has delayed us in documentation around some important dashboards. That being said, they are actively working on this, and I expect great things

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before castor, people would make assumptions about columns (awful), or Sr Data members would receive nonstop pings/questions about data. This would sometime lead to just pulling the data for user vs. self-service happening.

  ### 41. Super cool Data Catalog, cool UI, very useful for newcomers

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

It's yet a very recent product and I kind of miss some feature either for filling in the documentation or sharing knowledge to other company members. But I'm sure it's come soon !

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Castor help us in reading through the data and have a visual representation of the data lineage. It also helps in fulfilling this documentation and sharing it across the company.

  ### 42. Castor is spot on

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Navigating data is very complex, and one mistake can cost a lot (time, wrong decision, etc.), not to mention onboarding time or efficiency gains. Castor is exactly solving those issues.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

Not a dislike per se, but there are maybe some opportunities with LLMs (like GPT) to help people document in a more automated manner. Querying data directly into Castor would be amazing too.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Knowing what data is what, where does it come from, how people use it - basically making data live within the organisation can be very tricky and this is exactly what Castor aims to solve.

It doesn't show the entity relationship diagram of our databases, but it seems to be in Castor's development pipeline.

Document terminology for our applications. Seeing data lineage. Assigning data stewards.

They did not want to connect to our on-premise database. I understand that they have a focus on cloud solutions

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is hard to know what the business means by certain KPI & metrics.

**What do you dislike about Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc)?**

After seeing the power and benefit of using Castor on our core data stack we quickly wanted to expand the Castor to other areas and across other tools, so excited for more integrations down the line.

**What problems is Coalesce Catalog (formerly CastorDoc) solving and how is that benefiting you?**
