What do you like best about AWS Glue?

AWS Glue simplifies ETL with its serverless architecture and tight integration with the AWS ecosystem. The built-in Data Catalog, schema discovery, and job automation features reduce operational overhead. It is highly scalable, cost-effective, and suitable for both batch and streaming workloads. What do you dislike about AWS Glue?

One downside of AWS Glue is the job startup time, which can be slow for small workloads. Debugging Spark jobs is sometimes difficult, especially when logs are not very clear. Cost can increase if jobs are not optimized properly. Also, the UI can feel limited for complex transformations compared to full-scale Spark development Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is AWS Glue solving and how is that benefiting you?

AWS Glue is solving the problem of managing and transforming large amounts of data from multiple sources. Earlier, setting up ETL infrastructure required servers and manual maintenance. With AWS Glue, we can automate data ingestion, transformation, and cataloging without managing infrastructure. This benefits us by reducing operational effort, improving data reliability, and enabling faster analytics through services like Athena and Redshift

In our DevOps workflow, we manage AWS Glue resources entirely through Terraform. We’ve deployed several Glue Jobs (Spark-based) to handle partitioned data in our S3 data lake. Using Glue's serverless nature helps us avoid the overhead of managing a dedicated EMR cluster while maintaining high scalability for our monthly batch processing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
