**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Honestly, for the price I'm paying, the product is solid. I've had my gripes with their support team and some of the UI changes they've made over the past year, but overall, they're addressing a critical business function that's remained affordable even as my team has expanded. The ability to track my time and have the hours automatically populate into an invoice has been incredibly time-saving. Offering online payments while passing on fees to clients who choose that option has been a great feature as well. Overall, the templates and integrations have made the product very enjoyable to use, and it's become so essential that I actually take the time to reach out to customer support and provide feedback when things aren't working correctly.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

Customer support can be difficult to work with, whether it’s their staff not knowing how some features work, providing incorrect responses, or giving canned answers for the wrong issue. I feel like they've improved over the past year, but it’s still a challenge. The chat experience still feels like you're just a ticket in their queue, not like you’re having a real conversation with a human.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bonsai provides a single platform for managing proposals, contracts, and time tracking, all the way through to invoicing. It’s helped my team and me build a structured process for customer engagements and has streamlined everything related to time tracking and billing clients, making the entire workflow more efficient.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Professional looking easy to use and implement timer, project/client set up and  invoicing/chasing etc.  Ability to log a partial payment and email client with updates, disable routine reminders if required and to tweak/suspend accrued interest again as necessary when negotiating with clients  (without the overheads of a full accounting app if you're only operating on a micro level).    Basic CRM if payng for basic package.  Reasonably priced and does what it says on the tin.  Templates are useful and allow for limited personalisation.  Customer support is always swift to reply and action any issues.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

Less functionality for UK based accounts unfortunately re annual accounts/HMRC.  Loging in can be slow when obligatory adverts have to be loaded first in order to proceed even though Kaptcha has been 'ticked'.  Templates could have more leeway for personalisation,i.e contracts, whilst still prohibiting changing any legal necessities as dictated by country you're located in.  Integration of Excel database to Bonsai CRM was limited and would require further liaision to set up via Bonsai Customer Services, so not impossible but a bit of a faff.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a micro business basic package allows me to do several admin/accounts functions in one place with the ability to add more if required such as collaboration and project management.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

It's incredible to send contracts, proposals, invoices, and forms to clients all in the same platform. I love that Bonsai is a one-stop shop for freelancers and small businesses. I use Bonsai almost every day for my business. Their support team is very helpful and quick to respond to any issues I may have encountered.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

Some features seem messily put together and poorly thought out for the end user. I hope Bonsai will continue to improve these.

Having a platform that consolidates all my freelance admin work into one.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

A lot of softwares advertise being an all-in-one resource for freelancers, but, as a freelance designer myself, it was always missing something - until I came across Bonsai. It's minimal, affordable, and super user-friendly. It took me no time to completely set my business up for success compared to other platforms with it's contracts, invoices, taxes, and even tasks taken care of. When I had a question, Bonsai's support team was quick to respond and solve my problem. I use Bonsai every day and look forward to seeing my business grow with them!

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

I would really like for Bonsai to further develop the task section  or develop some kind of integration with Asana. The task section is helpful, but not entirely as advanced as others that I can do without a task management platform.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Becoming a freelancer in 2024, I wanted a program that I could send proposals, invoices, and contracts, keep a record of my receipts and taxes, manage my clients, and keep time for those clients. Bonsai had that in one platform for me so that I didn't have to purchase 3-4 different programs. Although I wasn't originally looking for these things, Bonsai also had banking, forms, and task management which I have utilized since subscribing.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

I like how Bonsai has enabled me to reduce my productivity/operations software spend on a monthly and yearly basis.  Since I switched to it, I don't have to have a SaaS software for Accounting/Bookkkeeping/Invoicing, Proposals, Contracts, P&Ls and scheduling because now Bonsai handles this all in one spot.  This is important because it both saves my company money and the time having to shift between multiple platforms to handle all of my operational needs.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

The "jack of all trades, master of none" figure of speech applies to Bonsai's feature sets sometimes.  It might be a thing that is missing or a feature that exsists, but doesn't quite do what I want it to do for a particular need.

Bonsai solves my:

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Bonsai is most helpful because it's got a user-friendly interface for handling some of my most pressing needs as an independent contractor, without the extra fuss of many other platforms. It's well designed and easy to look at, which makes a lot of tasks that I normally find tedious to be a little more enjoyable. Invoicing is a breeze and my clients have responded well to my proposals made with Bonsai since I switched over to using them. I find the tax extension especially useful for easily tracking business expenses and being prepared for quarterly tax payments and tax time.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

While I like the ease of use each of the features around proposal-sending, contracting, invoicing, and questionnaire sending, I wish there was a bit more automated connection between these 4 aspects of the onboarding flow. I can't quite have each of those steps all be completed by a client at the same time- doing certain steps requires completion and back-and-forth communication with me before I can approve/send the next piece, and this slows me down sometimes in terms of responsiveness with sales leads/potential clients.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bonsai helps me solve for how to send proposal and invoice clients electronically, how to send and have them review & sign contracts electronically, and how to easily track business expense and income transactions for tax purposes. The electronic-based services benefits me because clients are much more likely to respond and respond more quickly than through traditional paper/mail methods, and this helps me meet my bottom line more efficiently. The expense tracking and bank integration really helps me with saving time with tax prep, which is much appreciated.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Ever since I started using Bonsai, I've had the three best consecutive months in my business to date. The proposals I'm creating are just next level in comparison to the platform I was using before. The designs are beautiful and on-brand, and the ability to create templates using saved services is such a massive time-saver. Bookkeeping is a breast. I also love the overall design aesthetic of the platform.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

I really wish Bonsai had a better built-in calendar/task-tracking integration that is more like Asana. That is the main thing I feel like would improve this platform.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm using Bonsai for proposals, invoicing, and bookkeeping for my business.

I love the platform and how user friendly it is. I've been using Bonsai for over 2 years.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

I typically reserve my reviews for when I have nice things to say, but I feel compelled to express my disappointment with the customer service at Bonsai. Support sucks and ia basiaclly non existant. I've been waiting for support to get back to me for 9 days now and still nothing. If you don't care about good customer support go with bonsai but if that's inportant to you stay far far away from bonsai becuase they have NO SUPPORT.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Bonsai to manage my entire business, from start to finish. However, I'm not impressed with their support—it's practically non-existent.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Very user-friendly while still robust software for small businesses. It makes my business look more professional towards my clients. I love the fact that I can send a proposal, contract and invoice from within one platform. Automatic invoice reminders and their management are a great feature as well.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

I think there is still room for improvement. If it could integrate with QuickBooks Self-Employed version it would be a massive bonus going forward. 
Also, being constantly logged out from the portal on my desktop or mobile app is a little bit annoying.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a self-employed person I have a need for a business management tool that does it all for me. From managing clients, proposals, contracts and billing, all under one roof. Brilliant. Room for improvement though.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Bonsai has helped me launch my small educational consulting business (I am the only employee). The contract and invoicing are the most helpful features, especially since I can easily have clients e-sign contracts. Also, I love that there are auto reminders for invoices, so I never have to remember to ping clients if an invoice is coming due or overdue. Lastly, the scheduling feature has been great and allowed me to avoid paying for Calendly.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

There are lots of aspects of Bonsai that I either do not use or do not know if they make sense for me to use. I wish you could select features and pay a discounted amount if you do not need to use the additional features. Also, I had issues with using Google Meet through the scheduling feature, but since I've purchased an annual Zoom subscription I haven't had any issues and it works seamlessly with the scheduling feature in Bonsai.

It allows me to invoice and send contracts to clients (and have them e-sign) with ease! It saves me lots of back and forth and keeps everything organized.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

I like it in its entirety. It's full service a covers a broad range of needs, but does so in a very intuitive manner. I moved my business over from Fbooks, and the data transfer was quick and easy and didn't lose a step. If I've had issues the support has been super helpful and quick, it's seriously impressive.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

I don't think they're charging in CDN dollars yet. As a Canadian I would like to pay in my own dollars not USA funny money as the exchange is brutal.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It covers a wide range a areas in one service. Previously I had about 3 software to do so.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

great for scheduling, CRM, invoicing, quotes/proposals, collecting payments and handling bookkeeping. It is my one-stop-sho for my small project management business. Highly recommended. High ease of use, easier implementation, fast and timely customer support as I use the app every day for my business needs.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

They really need to improve the tasks and workflow of project such that the cliet portal becomes a dashboard for clients to see progress and the over timeline like in Notion. I really am at the end of my rope with asking for this essential update.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is my CRM, client intake tool, time tracker, invoicing tool, scheduler too, proposal creator - all in one. 
I am captivated by user-friendly interface, it literally calms me while  i am working to see the vegetative leaves. 
I dont have the time, energy or budget to get anything fancier. I tried 17Hats, but the interface was so problematic, I left.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Bonsai has helped me organize my bussiness and speed up my workflows for every step of client and project management. The biggest benefit so far, is the time that has freed up for me to  focus on designing.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

There are few downsides to this software. But with that said, I think the one thing that needs improving is Bonsai's time tracking features. It's a little clunky on desktop and I think there could be more features around it online as well.

It's speeding up all of my CRM duties that help bring in work as a freelancer. It's saved me countless hours on proposals and invoicing.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Bonsai's time tracking features, invoicing, and contracts are all set up in mostly user-friendly ways that make it easy for me -- a freelance copywriter -- to manage my hectic work schedule and invoicing. I can toggle between multiple projects at once with the platform, which is great.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

There have been some glitches while using - for instance, my hours once stopped showing up past a certain date, which - had I not noticed - would have lost me money during invoicing. The good news is that I reached out to customer service and they had the glitch fixed promptly. 

Another downside is that there is not an easy way (that I've found) to keep track of retainer payments. Several of my clients pay me monthly and then it's helpful for me to track time spent, without having to input a dollar amount on the invoice. I've found a way to make it work, but it's not intuitive on the platform. There are a few features of Bonsai that require personal workarounds like these.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Manages my invoices; allows me to track time easily; keeps track of my hours across multiple projects; keeps track of expenses; allows clients to pay me through the portal if they choose; sends auto reminders to clients on my behalf.

I love so many things about Bonsai: the well-written contracts, the ability to add custom branding, the bank account, and bookkeeping features.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

When starting a new project, you have to backtrack to create a new client first. Sometimes I want to simply make an invoice for a new client - I wish whatever info I input on the invoice would automatically create a new client rather than having to do that first.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Streamlined system for invoicing, contracts, and proposals. Business bank account to keep all my money in one place - and envelopes to separate out the funds for tax savings and payroll.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Quick and easy interface to create a customer profile or send out a contract for signature. Allows sample customer to get experience with how the contracts or invoicing works. Customer support is always quick to repsond. Either same day or the next.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

Does not have semi annual taxes. Takes a couple weeks for first couple of payouts which is a long time compared to other processors i've used.

This has time tracking, invoicing works well and able to set different types of contracts is really benenficial.

Bonsai makes my work so much easier. It really helps you from start to finish with getting clients. I have never felt the need to consider another invoicing tool because I love this one. I highly recommend!

With the update the time tracking insights changed and I miss the old version. Other than that I have no compaints!

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Bonsai has helped me streamline my business with contracts, proposals, time tracking and invoicing all in one spot. Automated invoice reminders are also super helpful. The user interface is very clean and easy to use, and the customisation options for branding are great.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

I wish Bonsai had support for Australian banks as I need to add all my expenses manually, which is very time-consuming. Also, every time I download my invoice reports it downloads all instead of a date range. The pricing is quite expensive for Australian users due to the exchange rate.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Contracts, proposals and invoices all in the same spot. It has streamlined my process and made everything easy to access. Time tracking would be helpful if there was an option to track towards a project that has already been paid (ie. to see the hourly rate of the project), in addition to billable ones.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

The ability to create clients, projects within those, attaching contracts/invoices/timetracking to it. Ability to automate invoicing, reminders. Transparency with invoicing fees for clients. And track invoicing payment - auto and manually.

How the features are tired in membership models. I really needed one feature from the "pro" and now paying $$$ with a suite of features I dont use

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

Organization and that is it.  I can get that with Design Files and other platforms and do not have to go through this inconvenient process of my funds being on hold.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

Bonsai customer support is HORRIBLE and I honestly feel that it may even be AI generated because the responses does not resolve issues at hand or even the attempts to make customer happy are a fail.  I also am disappointed with how payments are not processed  in a timely manner even after showing proof of customer business to business relationship.  I do not like not being able to talk to a live human to get the support that is needed.  It is now October 9, 2023 and my funds have been on hold since October 5, 2023.  This has caused a GRAVE inconvenience for me and my business and the issue is still not resovled even with my client attached to the emails.

Update:  After submitting all legal documents such as signed contract, floor plans and even the rules and covenant from the property of the projects I was hired to do, Bonsai wanted my clients facebook page to confirm my business with her even though she was attached on the emails, this is the response I recieve:

• Images on mobile devices are cut off, stretched, or contorted.
• Issues with image stretching and formatting in proposals, affecting visual quality.
• Images often appear pixelated or of low quality when uploaded to the platform.
2. Customer Service and Support:
• Slow response times (1-3 days) from customer service.
• Partial or inadequate addressing of issues raised.
• Unresponsive telephone support; calls go unanswered.
3. Billing and Pricing Transparency:
• Double charged within a 30-day period.

- Subcontractor functionality does not make any sense, you can't review before your subs bill you how much they have been working
- I am a credible agency but they blocked over $20k from client payments going to my bank account for ~2 weeks. Extremely frustrating and the team there doesn't seem to care at all.
- Cannot be used for project management or be integrated with Monday.com.

Time tracking is nice with Bonsai because it syncs directly to the invoice to offer transparent billing to clients.

Nothing. I liked nothing. They have the worst customer service, and I never received my funds.

If I could leave a ZERO star, I would. This is the absolute worst company I've ever stumbled across. I am a freelance social media manager and I was attempting to make invoices for my clients through Hello Bonsai. The invoice sending was successful, and my clients were able to easily pay. At that point, Hello Bonsai decided not to release the funds to me. Instead they continued to ask extremely vague questions about my business that led to them saying I couldn't provide them with enough information to validate my business. Vague questions where it was impossible for me to provide a suitable answer. So my belief is that this was intentional to keep the funds for themselves. I even went to the trouble of having an executive, from the company that hired me, write and sign a letter stating they hired me to do their social media management. That still wasn't good enough for them to release my funds. I also provided website addresses, Instagram handles, marketing strategies from private meetings within my company, and much much more. None of it was "apparently" sufficient. Additionally, multiple people were responding to the support messages from Bonsai, and none of them were in the loop with each other on what I had already provided. So I went in circles and provided duplicate information to Bonsai at least 5 separate times. All of which was never "enough info". I cannot stress enough that no one should ever ever use this company. They are FRAUD and they intentionally make it impossible to get your funds. I'm hoping that my client gets refunded, but who knows if that will happen. I opened an online investigation of their website and services, so maybe soon they will be shut down for good. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bonsai is the best app I have seen for creating tasks with notes and descriptions, collaborating with other users regarding those tasks, tracking time spent on each task, and then billing the company for said tasks in a hundred different ways.

The only downside is that, depending on what you do, the premium packages can be a bit expensive, and the subscriptions don't let you pick 1 or 2 aspects of the program to use.

Front end seemed great, was so pleased to set everything up and get rolling. Then the wheels started to come off.

My first transfer of funds from my client was held by Bonsai for 7 biz days. (ok I guess...it's in their policy) Then my next TWO client transfers were held up for an additional 7  BUSINESS DAYS before being deposited to me. (I do not as of writing this have access to the $$. I have set everything up correctly in my account, set up biz banking, been verified, etc. This is fraud and equivalent to what the large banks have done. Floating in $$ and collecting interest. I tried to bring this up with customer service twice and was given a generic, unhelpful response. Each response took almost a full day. In addition, my banking card never arrived and I was never able to set up my external account with micro deposits. I finally connected it today via a diff method. All in all I've had a TERRIBLE experience and my funds are still held hostage by Bonsai. Just awful. Buyer beware.

I love their contracts. They are super easy to set up, flexible to edit, and quite a joy to work with. It's very nice to get a contract sent to a client in such a streamlined fashion, and not have to spend a bunch of time writing the entire contract from scratch (or copy pasting and editing from elsewhere) and then figuring out a service to use to upload and send it just for signature. Kudos to Bonsai for that part of the software.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

Recently, I encountered what I would call a pretty critical bug with a contract. The support was very helpful in trying to resolve the issue for me. However, they couldn't resolve the issue. The uploaded SoW on the contract is, when you click the link, completely inaccessible to myself and the client. As a result, I do not trust the software at this point.

They also have very aggressive auto reminder and auto invoicing settings, and sometimes I don't want that because invoicing and/or payments are already handled outside Bonsai. It seems like they're really trying to push you to doing everything inside of Bonsai.

There have also been numerous bugs and frustrations that have taken a lot more time than I would've desired, such as:
1. My profile picture is still not correct and I can't edit it on one page.
2. It felt like a ridiculous process to change my email address (required me to submit sensitive personal life information documents).
3. It was very difficult to add a partner account for someone that had previously had a Bonsai account.

Anyways, I can't recommend them at this point. The bug with the SoW not being accessible on an already signed contract is critical, and the fact that they couldn't fix it is even more concerning. If you're doing legally binding contracting software and a SoW isn't accessible then that's a serious issue.

Bonsai streamlines the creation of contracts for our company and getting those contracts signed. We occasionally use the invoicing features as well.

It benefits us by speeding up the contract process and streamlining, in some cases, parts of the invoicing feature.

Bonsai makes it incredibly difficult to issue payment. It held 10 figures worth of money in limbo from me for about a month before I decided to issue a refund to my client, cancel the account, and look for a different option to receive payment.

**What do you like best about Bonsai?**

As a designer and small business owner, I have tried SO MANY invoicing and payment platforms. All of them claim to be the best for a variety of reasons. After switching to Bonsai I can safely say I finally found the best. Not only is their platform easy to use and user-friendly, but they automate helpful pieces of the payment process and my favorite part is you can charge your customer the CC processing fees. The money I save on processing fees alone MORE than covers my Bonsai subscription cost. It's a no-brainer.

**What do you dislike about Bonsai?**

I'm not sure there is anything worth noting that I don't like at this point honestly.

**What problems is Bonsai solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reminding customers of their pending invoices is super helpful. But I think the main problem they solve for me is allowing me to charge my customers for the credit card fees. This allows me to get paid faster and the savings MORE than cover the cost of my Bonsai subscription so it's a win-win.
