What do you like best about Adobe Substance 3D Painter?

For a person who loved using Ms-Paint during childhood days, Substance Painter is a tool that vowed my mind. One of the most famous texture-painting applications in the market, this app is used by many artists for bringing a 3-D image to any projects in real-time. The tool contains a wide range of materials that are user-friendly and we can experiment all as it is a non-destructive app. The biggest feature of Substance Painter is not the image that the person expects to see, but it is what they don’t see. I love to use the tool just to paint with brushes and make objects of my own likes and all the pictures come out with so much richness in texture. It’s just beautiful to look at. What do you like best about Adobe Substance 3D Painter?

My favorite thing about this type of texture painting application is multi-channel support. So when I paint a texture or surface it not only affects the color of the surface but also glossiness or shininess. This is something I have been looking for quite some time in a 3D color painting program. Also it has material that are drag and drop but still a very sophisticated looking surface. It's practically an industry standard so there's lots of tutorial support from Gnomon and PluralSight. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adobe Substance 3D Painter?

Even though I'm not fond of the texture baking process that goes along with procedural surface painting tools, Substance Painter's implementation of the process is straightforward and clear. Quite honestly, once the basic task of getting the Baking or Baked maps done, it's a real fun process to experiment with how they can be manipulated on your objects. Even though I would recommend Substance Painter to others, it was recently bought by Adobe. It's unclear how this would affect it or how Adobe's subscription plan will affect users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Adobe Substance 3D Painter solving and how is that benefiting you?

I have used Substance Painter on projects that would have been problematic with a procedural painter tool. Specifically, I was concepting Space Helmets. Being able to drag/drop and customize several helmets made the whole process cost-effective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Substance Painter and Designer have revolutionized the world of texturing the the Game Art world! Not only can you update your materials real time on the object but you can switch to the rendering mode which gives a incredibly quick render of the object which makes even hot garbage look like a Kardashian(or vice versa).

Game engines support, especially Unreal, support the outputs from Substance making the transition from texturing to a real game asset nearly seamless! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Adobe Substance 3D Painter?

The original UI of Substance Painter 1 felt much easier to navigate. It can be difficult during every major upgrade to have the UI switched around. Perhaps a button that allows users to switch their UI to older versions? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
