## TestComplete Reviews
  ### 1. Smart Automation Testing tools with Artificial intelligence features built on top of it.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** AMIT C. | Program Analyst trainee, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2022

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

-TestComplete is the most advanced testing software which can automate UI test Desktop, Web, and Mob testing(Android and iOS) .
-I like the Record and play feature, by using that I can record the test case and later modify it to enter my inputs and then play to test it.
-I also loved the Map Object from Screen and Display Object spy feature which lets you spy on any object and provides you with all possible Xpaths for that object and also related methods which can be used on that object. An amazing feature that makes testing easy and simplified.
-We don't need to know code to write scripts in TestComplte, recording the test case will present you with the script.
Also, it supports all the widely used tools like Git, Jira, Jenkins, AzureDevops, HP Alm, Selenium, and many more.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

The reusability feature lets you call one script from another using pages which makes it complex and it hopes on multiple pages if you're script is complex and requires a lot of other scripts to be reused it becomes a little difficult to maneuver to all pages.

When editing a script and executing it multiple times, it sometimes crashes and behaves differently.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

Best in Class for all types of application testing (Web, App, Mob) and it supports all the widely used tools like Git, Selenium, Jenkins, Jira, etc.
Test cases can be created and converted to scripts using the record and play feature. Must check this software for enterprise use.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

-TestComplete is helping our team to automate the cumbersome regression testing easily and also lets us experiment with new things to innovate quickly.
-It is easy to use and whenever a new team member gets added to our team, it doesn't take a lot of time for him to use and start executing scripts.

  ### 5. I thought this was to compare testcomplete with TestProject. But it is just a testcomplete review!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kim H. | Software test analyst/test automation analyst

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2021

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Object repository, combination of windows, browser and device testing

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Price is the big one. They have pretty much out priced themselves out of the market for many SME's. Some browser object recognition was difficult when I last used (may have improved since) support took a few days to respond to emails and there was no phone support even if you were prepared to pay more for it (as my employer at the time was) which meant if you got stuck on something there was a lag of several days in getting a response. Often when the response did arrive it felt like I was getting a 1st level support pre scripted response, and more than once their suggestion would be that I try something which my support request message had clearly stated I had already tried. Having said this I have not used it for a number of years so their support may be better or worse and the browser object recognition issues may also be better or worse now!
Also creating exe files to reun on other machines using the testcomplete client/runner app (can't remember exactly what it was called) wasn't always straight forward and you had to spend more time than you wanted to debugging exe files which had been built following all of the documented support instructions. Also the c#.net syntax seems to be its own proprietary syntax and if you cannot figure out how to do something syntax wise, and can't get an answer from support you can't just google for it like you can if coding in Java and other languages as it's not standard. A developer commented that it appears to be a sort of mix between c#.net and c# script with some rules that were not either.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None at the moment as I am not using it currently. When I was using it I was testing windows amd browser apps. And that is one advantage it had over most other automation as it was reasonably possible to automate a test which used a windows app and a browser app. I still havent found another tool to do that, however as more and more apps are in the cloud it's becoming less and less necessary or useful to automate windows desktop apps anyway :-). Still there are times when it is great to just do something with your local is, , and then jump into the browser and what you do in the browser is dependant on what you did in the os, so it would still be nice to have that...

  ### 6. Great when it works

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Toni S. | Sr. QA Business Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2021

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

TestComplete is a pretty robust automated testing tool. I've been using it for about 9 years. It does take some time to learn and unlike the salespeople push it to be plug and play or record and playback, there are some scripting skills needed to get your test scripts working consistently for regression testing. It's been a 9 year learning curve but I've gotten there.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Their license utility leaves little to be desired. The department in charge of licensing should take off the tin foil beanies and be a little less paranoid over their product. Believe me, it's not something worth pirating. Most anti-virus software blocks this license product and getting them to get along has been a nightmare.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

Make sure your users are technical savvy. During my first training with TestComplete 9 years ago, it was very obvious that the sales team had sold the product as record and playback and that anyone can use it. The other participants in the training class were apparent business users and were not technically minded and were completely lost in the scripting instructions.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's really beneficial for regression testing. However, the scripts have to be watched and adjusted for network fluctuations and delays added to accommodate.

  ### 7. Test Complete- The Gamechanger

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2021

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

The best part is the Keyword Test option, where a beginner can directly record steps without scripting. Anyone can use this product to start their automation test journey.
The methods provided are very convenient and user-friendly, which can be remembered easily.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Sometimes it takes time to detect the fields in the keyword test. The UI is a little congested.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

Highly Recommended who want to automate faster.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am automating UI and validating databases. Its much faster and convenient.

  ### 8. Director - Program management

  ### 9. It has been very useful for us to perform performance tests as well as performance and interface

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mikki M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2020

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

It has a fairly complete, powerful and intuitive interface so you don't need to be a programming expert to be able to use it without any problem, the fact that it allows me to perform different tests on my programs and developments is something of great help When I want to verify the proper functioning of my entire program in a much safer, more accurate, faster and more reliable way, the quality of the reports generated after performing the software analysis is quite complete and objective, which helps me make decisions. in a much faster way regarding how we are going to solve the problems detected in the best possible way without generating long delays in the final delivery of the software.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

It has some errors that can affect the performance of this application during its use, especially slowing it down or even leaving the program frozen, which happens very frequently, the solution? As there is no other option than to restart the entire application and start the tests from scratch.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has been very useful for us to carry out different tests both of operation and performance and interface for users in a fairly fast and simple way, so that we can be able to identify and correct existing errors in our applications in one much simpler and faster way instead of carrying out manual tests of our systems by members of our work team.

  ### 10. TestComplete

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vineeth V. | Assistant Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2021

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Easy to learn and use compared to Selenium or QTP. Optical Character Recognition .

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Difficult to automate mainframe applications

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to automate desktop, web and mainframe applications with test complete. We were also able to automate database connections and was able to subsequently reduce the time taken for testing

  ### 11. 5 Month Bug

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2020

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Overall, TestComplete is a good tool, although name mapping has issues.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

This review relates to how SmartBear account management handled a significant name mapping bug introduced in a release that was not resolved for 5 months and prevented my company from using the tool. Initially, technical support was very responsive and over 2 weeks, they were able to replicate the name mapping issue and determine that they had released a bug. Over the next 4 months our test backlog grew and our inability to use TestComplet damaged our ability to release stable software. After the bug was finally fixed, I asked account management to extend our license by 5 months, the amount of time we were unable to use their software. Seems reasonable to me! SmartBear refused and essentially flipped us off. SmartBear seems to know that once you start using their product, the effort it would take to retool with different software is probably not cost effective.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are starting to leverage our API to run tests and avoid the name mapping issues.

  ### 12. Buyer Beware

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2020

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

It was an inexpensive automated testing tool that worked decent.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

I was working with the support team to resolve a long-standing issue we had that we had just never taken the time to figure out. The support team told me I had to upgrade to the latest version. I had recently renewed my license so upgrading was not a big deal, or so I thought... Smart bear had changed my licensing so that it would no longer work on virtual machines. We had to purchase the more expensive floating user licenses in order to use virtual machines. They wanted over $12,000 to purchase floating user licenses. I was promised they would help me to find a resolution that worked for everyone, but in the end their solution was for me to spend the extra money. I wasn't willing to pay the extra $12,000 for a piece of software that wasn't working for me. I requested a refund on my last renewal. I can't use the licenses because they won't work on virtual machines and all of our testing is done on virtual machines, they denied my refund request. When I asked for an explanation as to why the refund was denied they said: "It is our responsibility to provide the software when purchased, not to ensure usage." Essentially, they don't care if I can use the softwawre or not, they just care that I paid for it.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was being used to do automated webtesting. I still have it running for web testing, but the results are unreliable.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oleg K. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Ability to quickly record GUI interactions is one of my favorite features. The tool is very intuitive and easy to adapt and use. I was able to fully automate a critical GUI flow in less than a week!

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

It's very likely the tool support this but I was unable to setup test looping for groups. E.g. Test A, Test B, Test C. Now loop 3 times --> Test A, Test A, Test A, Test B, Test B, Test B, Test C, Test C, Test C... this works but want I need is to execute A, B, C than A, B, C and A, B, C. Currently, with grouping I'm unable to achieve the last example.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

If you are doing any front end (GUI/Web) development, this is a must-have tool!

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our GUI's consist of hundreds of views with endless amounts of buttons, input fields, etc... TestComplete opened the door to coverage that was not possible before.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marthinus P. | QA Team Leader, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Not having real coding background, TestComplete click and record was an immediate hit with my team. Setup is quick and painless and the interface is easy to use. Each tester could get the basics up and running within an hour of playing around with the system. Price wise, at least compared to local options (South Africa) TestComplete is priced very well.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

There are Artificial Intelligence auto update of specific test intput which I'm not seeing but I'm writing that off due to being new to TestComplete and our inexperience and will definitely make use of the Community and help desk if I still experience this in the future

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

There is a Free Trial which will quickly show if it will work for you, but also read through various Community topics and numerous Youtube videos for quick overview and how to

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Regression Testing and testing processes which you won't regularly test. Already our basic tests picked up issues caused by errant code, but an unexpected bonus is that a new member or one not familiar with a process can simply watch the automation run, and use that as training or clue on how to test a specific process.

  ### 19. create Customized plugins and extensions easily with test complete

  ### 20. TestComplete is a must have tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bernhard R. | Software QA/QC Specialist, Computer Software, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

If you need to put something together fairly quickly TestComplete allows you to do that. Using the recording feature saves a ton of time. If you are looking to get more complex with your tests there are a lot of advanced features available.

The support is wonderful and the documentation that they have is insane (in a good way).

The reports generated are very helpful and it's great that I can implement TestComplete right into our workflow.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Wish there was the ability to see what objects I have created checks (assertions) for. Also, it would be great if there was somewhere on the support site with a list of scripts that have been made for different situations. More examples and scenarios would be nice as well.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

Have a plan of what you want to do so the sales team and their engineers know if they will be a good fit. Also, ask a lot of questions!

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the major problems we have is saving time when it comes to testing. Manual testing takes way too long and especially when it comes to doing a sanity test. TestComplete will allow us to run our automated sanity tests which will allow us to focus on newer features that were implemented and/or major bugs that were fixed. So, the benefit of using TestComplete is it will save you time and let you focus on other things.

  ### 21. Very good tool to perform software automation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Renato Vicente S. | Analista de Automação de software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

The OCR option is very useful for reading GRID.
Can create python scripts.
The performance of automated testing is very good with version 12 of TestComplete.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Using python's external libraries is very complicated, for example I need to use the lxml library with etree and interpreter error occurs on second use.
There are some moments that the TestComplete hangs and we have to restart the machine.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

Use the OCR option to map the hard elements to get the attributes

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Today we are able to automate our system that is in vb6 and with this improving the validations.
The quality of automated testing has increased significantly.
We improved the performance of the automated tests by 30% with TestComplete and many screen elements that could not be automated, today thanks to the option to map with OCR.

  ### 22. Reliable test automation tool that works

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Subbu V. | Senior Automation Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

We have been using TestComplete as our test automation tool for a number of years now. The tool has a good spread of features (not bundled up with everything that you possibly don't need) and has proven to be reliable in our environment. We only use the desktop module as most of our products-in-test are desktop or standalone applications so I really can't comment on the web and mobile modules. We also have found TestComplete to integrate well with other tools especially TFS and Jenkins which is a bonus for us - key enabler in our continuous integration process.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

In terms of the product, not much - navigation and options could be better but this is a minor point. Object recognition is patchy at places but this is a general issue with all the test automation tools out there. One final thing - the pricing has been gradually going up over the last few years but I would prefer this not to be too high until we are priced out from renewing our licences!

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use TestComplete/TestExecute to develop test automation and also to run the tests automatically by integrating to our build process system. This gives us the advantage of continuous integration - identifying issues early and providing feedback to development team. We are also reducing the manual testing effort by having tests automated early in the development lifecycle - this frees up resources to work on other critical tasks/projects.

**Official Response from Prashant Mohan:**

> Hi Subbu,

Thank you for your review. My name is Prashant, and I am the Product Manager for TestComplete.

In v12.6, we made a few enhancements to our namemapping feature that allows you to solve for object not found errors quickly and help you maintain your repository efficiently. Have a look here: https://support.smartbear.com/testcomplete/docs/general-info/version-history/features-added-to-ver-12-60.html#improved-name-mapping. Here are a few other ways to solve object not found errors: https://support.smartbear.com/testcomplete/docs/testing-with/running/handling-errors/object-not-found/index.html.

Additionally, in v14.0 we streamlined the namemapping algorithm to help find objects faster and more reliably.

Once again, thank you for your review and we're glad you find value in TestComplete.

  ### 23. Test complete catches breaking changes

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

My favourite feature of test complete is the automatic recording of tests as you are navigating around an application. These can easily be edited and changed when making changes to an application

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Test complete is great for winforms apps, but it can struggle with ASP.net applications using DevExpress controls. We have found a lot of manual scripting is required for these types of apps whereas Winforms is quite easy.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

If you are doing winforms testing this is a great product, its quite expensive but could potentially replace employing a dedicated tester once enough test coverage has been implemented

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are running automated testing on products after changes have been made to do end to end testing for each new release

  ### 24. Current user of the Test Complete Desktop application

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew P. | Software Test Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

I liked the flexibility of recording of the test and then converting it into a script. Lots of ready out-of-the-box functionality

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Delphi grid support could be better, as well as having better solutions for running in headless mode

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

When evaluating this product - get a demo, build a prototype against some of the problem areas that you face. If that works out - maybe this is for you :)

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Converting tests from WinRunner into something more modern

  ### 25. Review Test Complete Application

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

The simplicity of the product and that is offer recording as well as allowing a user to progress and actually as you gain experience then you can become a scripting and coding QA person. This allows for flexibility and expansion of individual skills sets.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

The hardest hurdle we have to overcome is working with out non-window application such as dll once a exe file has been converted. You can not simply record over the application but rather you need to be more of an expert in coding to get Test Complete to achieve the tests needed for non-web applications.

We also wish that for Mobile IOS prod version or provisioning files we could use these but each time we do they say they are not permitted. Production testing using IOS is a huge component to our needs and we cannot fulfill this now with Test Complete.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My company has never has any QA so we are resolving a huge gap in be able to build automation's that can run daily regression tests as well as smoke tests on staging and production arena's. We are also using this for API testing as well.

  ### 26. TestComplete Review at Financial FIrm

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Capital Markets | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

1. Their support model is fantastic. I get a response within 24 hours with over a 90% success rate in solving the problem.

2. TestComplete enabled and empowered us to develop an organization wide framework for Desktop and Web Automation. Especially for .NET applications that are hard to recognize with other tools like UFT or Tosca, TestComplete outshines them in terms of object recognition.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

1. It can be a tad bit slow in object recognition and on some machines it gets stuck when drilling down to certain objects.

2. It needs to evolve to be more dev friendly.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

Inexpensive in comparison to other firms, quality support, ability to scale is quite high.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

TestComplete has solved the problem of standardizing automation within my organization. Everyone is on a standard product, talking the same framework. The organization has over 35k tests automated within 4 years.

  ### 28. Easy to use and powerful

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

I love how easy and simple it is to pick up as well as how versatile it is for me to use with different applications. I was able to make it interact with custom tools as well as standard tools. I was also about to to get other team members trained on the tool and have multiple people work on tests.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

I dislike very little about TestComplete, for the most part I have no complaints.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

If you are looking for an easy system to implement for regression or devops testing this tool works well.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to automate more on the devops side of our business, which has saved a lot more time. By doing testing as we go with this tool we are able to save more time on bugs later on.

  ### 29. Easy, simple and most important, useful.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonata L. | Devops Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

The possibility to map all the delphi components and call it by script.
Easy to understand and start creating tests.
The documentation to start learning is good too.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Don't know yet! Didn't find a problem at all.
We are still trying to make developers start using it.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are trying to achieve a continous integration in our Delphi 6 application.

  ### 30. Products are indispensable and self service support is effective.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

I am an account admin and do the purchasing for my company. I am easily able to select what I need and make the purchase. I also like the fact that as users churn I am able to self service license activation from the licensing portal.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

I am not a fan of the assisted support or my particular account manager. Support was ineffective for my needs until after a challenging discussion with my account manager.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

From an administration standpoint this is fairly straight forward. Make sure you understand the difference in functionality, cost and requirements between node locked & floating licenses.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefit for us using TestComplete is the fact that all our automated testing can be run after hours and the test results/logs are waiting for the team once they arrive the next day.

  ### 31. Use for Automation and Mobile Approved

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

The QA team in my company uses this as their main-go when developing tests and manually testing projects. Its easy and efficient to use. It allows you to use 3 different programming languages when you write your scripts. If you are having trouble coding, you can use different features that guide you to a correct code line etc..

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Sometimes the smallest things can throw off the test. Such that the resolution of the screen, if the background of the screen move, if the wifi is too slow so your delays are too shor, if the app you are testing on mobile loads too slow.
It can be frustrating

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to test all our web and mobile applications

  ### 32. Of the best automation software

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francisco S. | title in c++ programation, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

TestComplete allows access to the entire view model of WPF programs, enabling complex test scripting.

TestComplete has a feature called Object Spy, which makes scripting new tests quite fast, as users can quickly see the attribute names of application elements simply by clicking on parts of the application's user interface.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

The text editor in TestComplete is extremely slow for debugging (especially for loading local variables, which can take minutes to load for each step of the debugging process).

During the use of TestComplete, we found that it would regularly hang during test runs, requiring a manual restart of the test.

The version of JavaScript used by TestComplete is rather bare bones and could be much better with the common features in modern libraries.

TestComplete seemed to have difficulties working with complex WPF programs, as we found it necessary to frequently script and update our automated tests to ensure that TestComplete had an accurate version of the view model.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

TestComplete is ideal for small teams that automate Web application testing. It works best with tests involving simple actions. It does not work well with complex WPF applications and tests that involve more advanced user actions like drag and drop or scrolling. Debugging WPF applications in particular is a slow and frustrating process.

  ### 33. All in one automated Functional Testing solution

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

This tool is ideal for the lazy testers as it is flexible with windows, web and mobile-iOS and Android-applications in one package. Record and playback test creation allows it to be played back and maintained over and over again. It supports different programming languages. Robust UI tests across native or hybrid mobile apps can be created.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Smallest things can throw off the test. Like if the internet connection is weak or if the applications take time to load or resolution of the screen varies then this can be frustrating to handle.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is compatible with windows, mobile and web based applications. It can be used to reduce the manual efforts.

  ### 34. A lot of bang for your buck

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jesse H. | IT Specialist III, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Our QA team is not very versed in writing scripts, but TestComplete allows you to use keyword tests that are very robust unlike others that are click XY locations. We are able to seamlessly use the same keyword tests across multiple browsers, desktop, and mobile screens. We are able to test the UI and API at the same time (even without SoapUI integration). TestComplete is very easy to learn, and you can quickly get up and running and see results.

Also, the smartbear community is a fantastic resource to have when I come across issues or questions. Support has always been friendly, and always give detailed responses to help.

I was able to be a beta tester for the new OCR feature, and at first I was struggling with its use. But just like anything else I was able to reach out to the community and documentation and soon I was using it to help validate PDF's, which is something that was still a manual step. The other new feature that I personally liked was the ability to see items in name mapping that are not being used. When personally my biggest headache is managing that repository, the ability to confidently clean it up is a huge help and relief.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Name mapping is somewhat confusing. I have been using TestComplete for over 2 years and at times I still struggle with managing this correctly. I am not sure what the best practices are, and being able to see what others do would be amazing to see.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

The cost alone for the amount of features you get is unlike anything we have trialed. Smartbear is a great company to work with, and they are always listening to the community for new features (that you can vote on).

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are testing desktop applications, web sites, and the connections in between. We have an enormous amount of regression test cases, so being able to automate those test cases saves us 40+ hours of testing each regression cycle. We are also able to complete smoke testing on some 1 off releases quickly and effortlessly.

  ### 35. UI Automation tool that works as promised

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike V. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 03, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Not everyone in our testteam has a developer background, so keywordtests in combination with scripts are the perfect solution for us. If needed, next to recording and updating tests, we used the possibility to write our own scripts.
We also like the dataloop and browserloop functionality, since most of our cases have a lot of possible combinations, which can be validated with UI tests.
The learning curve for Testcomplete is low, there is a quick result once the first basic tests are setup.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

We've been struggling a bit with the integration with Visual Studio (TFS), but thanks to the help from the support team, these issues were solved correctly, if needed with patches.
Disadvantage of all UI automation is the fact that tests are "bound" to namemapping. Of course Namemapping is needed to identify objects correctly, but when working with grids, it is sometimes hard to identify the right cell in the right row. At this moment, we are not able to select or delete rows in a grid correctly, woraround is working with "sendkeys" to navigate through the grid.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

In our evaluation of different products, we've noticed quickly that Testcomplete is a "readable" tool, as said : it is a tool that can be used by non-technical testers also. Price/Quality is ok.
And thumbs up for the support team, they really helped us out with the incidents we've logged.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using the desktop edition most of the time, only a few tests exist for our web applications, which form the minority of our applications to test. We mainly use Testcomplete for automated smoketests and regressions tests.

  ### 36. Simple yet Robust and the right Integrations

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Integration with Jenkins, ability to function on desktop applications, ability to iterate variables, and the logging/source control functionality and Git compatibility.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Would like more support and direct assistance with integration and standing up virtual license manager. Had to utilize ticket system to get those supported. Which worked and in the end was fine...but would be better and faster if part of the process was supporting that piece or at least offering it.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For now testing - we have not moved all to production yet but this resolves the issue of time consuming manual tests that span across multiple applications.

  ### 37. New to TestComplete but I like what I see so far

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric S. | Technical Specifications Writer, Pharmaceuticals, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

I am still fairly new to using the software but from what I've seen so far I like how many different ways it will let you know if a test failed. I don't feel like I have to spend hours figuring out what is going wrong with my test. It will give me a screenshot and tell me what line in my code is causing the issues so it makes my work a lot easier and with being new, it makes it easier to concentrate on learning my job instead of spending too much time on blankly staring at my screen.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

So far i don't have much to dislike. We do have occasional problems with getting an error message when opening TestComplete but who knows what could be causing that. It could be on our end or any number of problems.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to use TestComplete to create several automated tests to greatly increase our testing efforts. This cuts down on the amount of time other departments have to spend testing when they could be doing other work. We have been able to cut hours and days of testing down to get software releases out in a timely manner

  ### 38. I am managing an R&D center that uses TestComplete for QA automation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

The fact that you don't need developers in order to build QA automation.
We managed with relatively small group to cover a lot of functionality with TestComplete and to run it daily.
These daily runs found regressions bugs and saved us a lot of time.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

We had issues with falls positives around running our daily tests and as I recall it was all about the timing issues.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to cover a lot of apps functionality with relatively small group of 3 people and to be bale to maintain the daily regression tests.

  ### 39. A lot of untapped potential

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

That it works (better than other automated recording tools) with WPF applications

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

There are always errors with object recognition. The errors thrown during playback are usually too vague as well.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

Lower Level Procedures, when shared between machines that have different resolutions and scaling, will not work together!

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automating the functional testing for our products.

  ### 40. Great experience with TestComplete

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

A great automated testing tool that is very intelligent and easy to use

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Hope to find it can integrate with TestRail

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We develop software that deals with engineering drawings - given the diversity of architectures drawing styles, testing our software requires trying it on thousands of drawings to ensure it is really working - which is a VERY time consuming exercise if it is to be done manually, especially when any changes are done on our software, that we have to kinda repeat these tests

  ### 41. Automation of testing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Industrial Automation | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

We were able to get this to integrate into our TFS build system fairly easily. Tech support was very knowledgeable and helpful.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Have to redirect test agents back to console session as an RDP session doesn't work with automation. But this can be worked around by running a command at end of session.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

TestComplete is a great tool and part of a good suite of tools SmartBear creates.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

automated regression testing - still investing before it counts as a benefit.

  ### 42. Easy to Learn, Use and Implement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John Jay S. | Information Technology Quality Assurance Manager, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

I like the keyword testing feature with record. I can build my scripts quickly.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

There is nothing that I dislike. The name mapping is a little tough for me.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are automating our basic regression testing smoke tests.

  ### 43. Automated testing made easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samantha H. | Test and Quality Engineer, Medical Devices, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Simple user interface with extensive functionalities for testing GUIs. The software is easy to learn to use and there are a lot of online resources available as well as technical support from SmartBear.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

TestComplete uses a lot of memory when it is running so sometimes causes errors with CPU usage.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

TestComplete is an amazing resource for someone who is not an expert coder looking to implement automated testing.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We automated our software testing to cut down test time dramatically and allow us to identify more bugs in a quicker timeframe.

  ### 44. Not easy to implement but powerfull features

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Flexibility creating testing cases. Additionally the provider located a reseller in Spain to help us during the implementation

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Learning curve. We've needed a dedicated person during weeks to implement all test we need.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Regresions during development

  ### 45. My loved automation tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex G. | Senior QA Engineer / Scrum Master, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

TestComplete its a perfect tool for automation. It allows you to develop automated tests for all kind of webs and a lot of applications. It have a user-friendly interface which allows you to work hours and hours. Also it supports now native Javascript. The object spy is the best point in my opinion because its quite fast and you can perform a direct search or a search when you press some special keys (usefull when you have dynamic elements on clicked items)

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Maybe the pricing its a bad point because the licenses are quite expensive and the Source Control Management plugin. This plugin does not work correct at all when you have a lot of files because it tries to refresh all the elements when you perform a checkout and the applications maybe its frozen for 10-20 seconds.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

If you want to perform a good and stable automation tests, you need to use this application. Jenkins have plugins to launch this tests easily and you dont need to have a big knownledge on development bases in order to perform the tests scripts. You also con use the Script Recorder to perform all the actions easily and without a big effort. I really recommend it.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used TestComplete to perform Front-End tests and some performance tests. The invested time at first its a lot because you need to create structures and elements but after that, its so easy to create Keywords and create a lot of automated tests without a high level of programming knownledge.

  ### 46. Great generoc test tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

The fact that Testcomplete can be used for so many applications and so many test scenarios is what is most valuable about this test software. We have many technologies in use and Testcomplete handles them all.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

It is a rather expensive tool. So quite expensive to start with.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Setting up automated testing really helps us on efficiency. We can save 2-3 testers in our daily work once fully implemented.

  ### 47. TestComplete helps you get where you need to be

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joe G. | Technical Analyst II, Utilities, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

We are a small group, so when SmartBear hosts a free training webinar, we are all over it. It is the small, bonus added things like this that make TestComplete what it is. TestComplete makes it easy for those with programming knowledge to write scripting tests, but at the same time allows users with no programming knowledge to use the on-screen recording. TestComplete is one of the best automated testing options on the market today and versatile yet easy enough to use right out of the box.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Being a small group, learning the tool is not particularly easy. Watching the video tutorials and going through the practice exercises doesn't always carryover into the production side of things.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

I would highly recommend TestComplete to anyone who is looking for automated testing. In my opinion, TestComplete is one of the best automated testing options on the market today and versatile yet easy enough to use right out of the box.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Trying to implement more and better testing practices in our company is what we are trying to solve with TestComplete.

  ### 48. I have been working with automation tools since 2012 and TestComplete is the best tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

I love the new feature called Intelligent fix, and the fact that it very easy to reuse testscripts.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

Its still a little bit slow when it cant find the right attribute. Edit a name mapping take also sometimes several minutes before I get the edit properties page.

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

Try it out!

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick verification of new changes. Faster failure detection. Less manually repetitive work on humans :)

**Official Response from Prashant Mohan:**

> Hi, I'm Prashant Mohan from the TestComplete product management team. In TestComplete v14, we've significantly improved our identification algorithms to find object properties quickly. Could you please give the latest version a try?

  ### 49. The documentation is very scattered, so it is difficult to find specific examples

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

Automated testing and integration with Jira.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

I have not been able to generate an executive report

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have detected errors in web developments, before they go into production

  ### 50. Test Complete - Easy to Use and Feature Rich

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex G. | Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, Restaurants, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2018

**What do you like best about TestComplete?**

I love how you can screen capture to create scripts but then simply modify the commands that are created for these screen captures to customize your scripts. I love how easy it is to debug scripts that fail in the Keyword Test Log by matching the expected and Actual images, and by clicking on an error in the log and having it take you to the line in the script where the error occurred.

I also like how TestComplete organizes your scripts and makes it easy to run test suites of scripts. This has been in invaluable tool and reducing the amount of manual time I have to spend on regression testing and freeing up time to do new development testing.

**What do you dislike about TestComplete?**

So far, there isn't anything about Test Complete that I don't like. The handful of issues I've encountered have been quickly and effectively remedied by their knowledgeable support staff. The only real issue is that the free training sessions they provide could be a little more low level and detailed

**Recommendations to others considering TestComplete:**

We evaluated a lot of Automation software packages, but Test Complete is the one that made sense from the beginning. Each time we spoke to representatives from other automation companies, we kept going asking the same question. Is this as good as TestComplete? The answer was always a resounding 'No'
TestComplete was the standard we used to judge other Automation software, so it only made sense that this was the package we chose. Each day I use it, I'm reminded how we made the right choice.

**What problems is TestComplete solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been primarily focused on testing a POS using TestComplete and have been able to reduce the amount of time I have to run hands on regression testing. The automation tool is so robust that it even exposed a flaw in the amount of load the POS can handle.
