Upgrades on CCv2 are painful, and deployment times are consistently slow. The Backoffice UI also feels clunky for business users, which makes everyday tasks harder than they should be. On top of that, resolving search indexing issues in Solr requires heavy reliance on developers, which ends up inflating costs.

The freedom to build exactly what the business needs, no rigid constraints, clean composable extensibility, genuine B2B and B2C flexibility in one platform. Nothing else comes close at enterprise scale.

What I dislike about SAP Commerce Cloud is its monolithic database architecture and the lack of true microservices capability. That is something I would have really loved to see built into the platform.
Because of this architecture, components like the promotion engine, OMS, and other non-core commerce capabilities often introduce significant performance and scalability challenges when implemented within the same core engine.
I would have preferred these capabilities to be designed using a sidecar or composable pattern, where services could independently scale, evolve, and operate outside the core commerce runtime instead of being tightly coupled into the monolithic platform.

SAP Commerce Cloud solves the problem of managing complex enterprise digital commerce scenarios, especially for large B2B organizations that require highly customized customer experiences, large product catalogs, complex pricing models, account hierarchies, procurement integrations, and multi-region commerce operations.
What makes the platform powerful is its ability to combine strong out-of-the-box commerce capabilities with deep extensibility, allowing enterprises to adapt the platform to their unique business processes instead of changing their processes to fit the platform.
In my experience, I have primarily used SAP Commerce Cloud for building large-scale B2B commerce ecosystems integrated with ERP systems, procurement platforms, CMS solutions, search engines, and middleware platforms. I have used it to enable capabilities such as punch-out commerce, personalized catalogs, contract pricing, account-based purchasing flows, headless storefront implementations, API-led commerce, and enterprise integrations with SAP and non-SAP systems.

From a UI/UX perspective, the most useful aspect is the ability to build personalized shopping experiences that are consistent with the brand's needs. Integrations are certainly one of the main strengths. SAP Commerce Cloud integrates well with ERP systems, CRM, order management, logistics, customer care, and marketing automation tools. Before implementing SAP, we used to create purchase orders manually, which led to several challenges. The process of creating POs was time-consuming, and it was difficult to manage multiple POs at the same time. After SAP was implemented, these issues were resolved. Now, we can upload multiple POs at once instead of handling them individually, which has improved data accuracy and control.

The benefits we have experienced since adopting SAP include saving a significant amount of time in our daily operations and making the PO processing much faster and more reliable.

Sap Commerce cloud tends to be very complicated and technical, so it’s not as user-friendly as one might expect. If you can use it out of the box, then it’s great, but many clients need customisation, which can make things more difficult.

**What do you like best about SAP Commerce Cloud?**

After working on multiple B2B and B2C implementations, the biggest strength I’ve seen is how extensible the platform is. The accelerator-based architecture, layered extensions, and strong service layer make it possible to customize almost anything without breaking the core. For complex business requirements — especially in B2B (custom pricing, approval workflows, contract-based catalogs) — it handles them really well out of the box.

Another big advantage is its integration capability within the SAP ecosystem. When integrated with SAP S/4HANA, SAP Customer Experience, or other SAP products, the data flow becomes very structured and reliable. For clients already invested in SAP, this reduces a lot of integration overhead.

I also appreciate the cloud-native direction (especially with CCv2). CI/CD pipelines, managed infrastructure, and environment consistency have improved deployment stability compared to older on-prem setups.

From a developer perspective, the strong type system, flexible data modeling (items.xml), and powerful search with Solr make it a very capable platform for building scalable commerce solutions.

Overall, it’s a solid enterprise-grade platform that can support very complex commerce scenarios if architected correctly.

**What do you dislike about SAP Commerce Cloud?**

First, the learning curve is steep. For new developers, the platform can feel overwhelming. The extension structure, Spring configuration layers, items.xml modeling, impex, cronjobs — there are many moving parts. If the project isn’t architected properly from the beginning, technical debt builds up quickly.

Second, performance tuning can be challenging. Out of the box, it’s powerful, but not always lightweight. You really need experienced architects to design caching, indexing (Solr), and database queries correctly. Otherwise, scaling becomes expensive.

Deployment and environment management — even though CCv2 improved things — can still feel restrictive. Debugging production issues is not as straightforward as traditional self-managed environments. You depend heavily on logs and cloud pipelines.

Another area is upgrade effort. Major version upgrades are rarely “plug and play.” Customizations, deprecated APIs, and accelerator changes can require significant rework, especially in long-running projects.

Lastly, licensing and infrastructure cost can be high compared to some modern headless or SaaS-native commerce platforms. For mid-sized businesses, it can sometimes feel like overkill.

**What problems is SAP Commerce Cloud solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem it solves is managing complex B2B and B2C commerce scenarios in one scalable platform. Things like:

Multi-country, multi-currency setups

Complex pricing models (customer-specific pricing, contracts, tier pricing)

Large product catalogs with advanced search

Approval workflows and organizational hierarchies (especially in B2B)

Integration with ERP, CRM, OMS systems

For companies already running SAP S/4HANA or other SAP systems, it acts as a strong digital commerce layer on top of their ERP backbone. The tight integration helps synchronize pricing, inventory, customer data, and orders reliably. That reduces manual work and data inconsistencies.

From my personal perspective as a developer/architect, it benefits me because:

It allows me to design structured, enterprise-grade solutions rather than quick fixes.

It gives flexibility to customize almost any business requirement.

It supports headless and composable architecture (via OCC APIs), which makes frontend modernization easier.

The build process in SAP Commerce Cloud takes a very long time, even an empty base project requires a lot of time for setup. Deployment in CCv2 is also cumbersome and involves many manual steps that each implementation partner must automate individually. Furthermore, a real customer project requires a lot of preliminary work to provide a clean development environment, which makes getting started difficult.

With SAP Commerce Cloud, I felt like we had a robust partner. The platform behaves like a high-performance engine that seamlessly manages an immense amount of products, orders, and traffic. For the end user (the purchasing customer), the experience is seamless and frictionless, which is the most favorable and universally accessible feature. What I like most, and which is extremely beneficial for anyone who works with websites (without being a programmer), is the ability to personalize the customer experience through AI. The platform has built-in tools that allow: AI-powered Product Recommendations: Show customers the products they really want to see, based on their purchasing history and patterns. Personalized Content: I can change entire banners and promotions on the homepage or in specific categories for different customer segments. The user interface for making these changes is intuitive. You don't need to be a developer to improve conversion rates. For a marketing or product manager, this ease of use for delivering hyper-personalized experiences is pure gold.

**What do you dislike about SAP Commerce Cloud?**

Well, the software is incredibly powerful, but precisely because of its complexity and its origins in the enterprise world, it requires highly specialized developers and consultants. It's not that easy to find talent outside the SAP/Hybris niche, and if you do find it, it's usually expensive. In short: implementation and major modifications require a significant investment of time and money, and if you don't have an experienced in-house team, you're heavily reliant on SAP partners. It's not a "plug and play" solution for getting to market quickly.

The main problem we solved was the dispersion of data and complex processes (especially in the B2B environment). We had the product catalog on one side (in a giant Excel spreadsheet), pricing in another system (ERP), warehouse management in another, and the e-commerce website was a silo. This meant descriptions were outdated, prices were incorrect, and managing complex orders (for example, with variants or B2B configurations) was a manual nightmare.

being in retail and working with world's top knotch brands I can say this is one of the best products larger enterprise can use, its feature rich, and out of the box, supports omnichannel and good handling of global catalogues, great with SAP ecosystem integration, great with performance and stable product. supports almost all business use cases, how complex it may be and offers great level of personalization and excellent user experience. customer support is good in many cases

again everything boils down to the cost of implementation and managing it, sadly just like other sap products its very costly, it not that easy to implement and use so we can say end users will have to spend a lot of time to learn the system, its you endup using as is good for you else it has too much of customization overhead, again just like other sap products it has upgrades or you can say maintainence burden, you don't have options to run it on any cloud providers you have to stick to azure in many cases, small businesses can't run it due to heavy cost, so meant for bigger cash rich businesses, if comparison to its competitors, its take more time for a store front to go live, unless you have sap in your ecosystem heavy embedded, I will not suggest sap, but again its a real deal if you choose to go with this

**What do you like best about SAP Commerce Cloud?**

I started working with SAP pretty recently, around 6m ago when I, as a consultant started on a project for a telco company in the Czech republic. I have been using SAP and communicating with people using SAP almost daily. 
Here are my thoughts:
Ease of Use: SAP Commerce Cloud is powerful but not very intuitive or easy to use at first. The learning curve is steep, especially for new developers or business users. Once configured and customized, day-to-day management is fairly smooth, but it’s definitely not “plug and play.”
Implementation is complex and very time-consuming. You need an experienced team to get it right, and going live did require a significant effort. Prebuilt templates help, but (in my experience helping coworkers) customization is almost always required.
Support from SAP is in my experience reliable and professional, I contacted support a couple of times during configuration and to understand some best practices.
Our company was already in the SAP ecosystem, so integrations (in our case ERP, S/4HANA) are straightforward and smooth. Connecting to non-SAP systems, however, can require more effort and custom work.

**What do you dislike about SAP Commerce Cloud?**

The only downside i can think of is pretty High cost. I guess you can also say that the learning curve is very steep and the complexity of the software is high. When jumping versions or incorporating new modules, migrations or architectural changes can become challenging, especially if many customizations are in play. In certain scenarios (especially with big data or complex problems), response times can lag.
