"All-in-One Automation and Segmentation That Streamlines Our E-Learning Operations"
4/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

Honestly, what I appreciate most about Ontraport for our Bay Area e-learning studio is that it’s an all-in-one platform that lets us consolidate our student enrollment tracking, freelance instructor management, and operational automation — all without needing a dedicated IT team. As the sole tech and operations coordinator for our small team, I juggle course launches, cohort management, and vendor admin daily, and most CRMs are either too basic for e-learning workflows or way too complex to customize. Ontraport hits that perfect middle ground of powerful and self-manageable.

What stands out the most to me is its reliable automation paired with clean, organized contact segmentation. We run multiple overlapping course cohorts year-round, and each group has unique schedules, content deadlines, and communication timelines. Previously, we relied on manual spreadsheets and scheduled emails to follow up with learners and check in with instructors, which led to missed follow-ups and inconsistent student engagement.

I put this to heavy use during our summer skill-building course cycle. We had six active learner cohorts and a rotating team of freelance instructors handling different course modules. I built simple, targeted automations in Ontraport that trigger personalized check-ins for students falling behind on module completions, and automated reminder alerts for instructors with upcoming content submission deadlines. This eliminated my need to send dozens of manual check-in emails every week.

Additionally, Ontraport’s customizable record system makes vendor and cohort tracking far more structured. I’m able to tag every instructor and learner with custom parameters like contract term lengths, cohort assignment, and course progress status. When I need to pull monthly operational reports on course completion rates or instructor deliverable performance, I can filter and sort data directly in the platform instead of cross-referencing multiple tools.

Unlike rigid LMS tools that only handle course content, Ontraport ties student engagement data, vendor admin, and operational tracking together in one place. It drastically cuts down my repetitive admin work, keeps our multiple course cohorts running smoothly, and lets our small team deliver consistent, high-quality e-learning experiences without extra headcount or external tech support. What do you dislike about Ontraport?

Ontraport’s automation and contact segmentation are really helpful for our e-learning studio, but there are some frustrating limitations that create extra manual work for me, especially when managing learner cohorts and freelance instructor records. As the E-Learning Operations & Technology Coordinator, I spend a lot of time working with CSV imports and custom fields, and that’s where Ontraport can get messy.

The biggest pain point is inconsistent CSV bulk imports. When we onboard new learner cohorts or add freelance instructors, I often upload large CSV files with our custom fields for module status, cohort grouping, and contract details. A couple months ago, we imported a new batch of 130 learners for our advanced workshop. The import finished without throwing any obvious errors, but when I reviewed the records later, many of the custom cohort tags and module status fields didn’t populate correctly. I had to go line by line and fix hundreds of entries manually. It was incredibly time-consuming, and there was a real risk we could have sent wrong automated emails to learners grouped under the wrong cohort.

I also find the webhook setup overly complicated. Our team needs to connect Ontraport to our LMS to sync learner completion data. Since we don’t have an in-house IT person, I was left to configure webhooks on my own. The documentation is vague, and debugging failed data syncs took multiple days of testing. Every time a webhook trigger failed, Ontraport didn’t give clear error messages, so I couldn’t quickly tell if the issue was on our LMS side or inside Ontraport.

The reporting tools are another weak spot. I need monthly reports showing course completion rates grouped by cohort, alongside freelance instructor deliverable tracking. While I can build basic reports, combining custom learner fields and vendor data in one view is not supported. I end up exporting separate datasets and merging everything in Excel to build the full operational report for our leadership. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Ontraport has streamlined my business and helped me do more business online."
5/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

I'm a sole practitioner who manages my own website, which also includes protected membership content. Without Ontraport I would have to juggle multiple systems for email marketing, contact management, order forms, membership, and video hosting, and I have neither the time nor the technical expertise to make all these systems 'play nice' with each other. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Ontraport?

There is quite a steep learning curve for automations, and I don't find the current interface particularly intuitive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Lindsay Elswick of Ontraport

Robyn, we appreciate you taking the time to update this review after all these years. It's great to see you're doing so much with Ontraport more than a decade later.

"Ontraport Makes Building Pages and Sequences Easy for Small Businesses"
4/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

Ease of building pages and sequences. I've used other automation and CRM softwares in the past that are almost impossible to work without formal training. Ontraport is much more user-friendly for the small business owner or anyone who has used a CRM or simple email responder in the past. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Ontraport?

Not as easy to integrate as other softwares out there without using paid plugins and when connections are broken it's not as easy to reconnect - in my experience. I also don't like that it does not connect with Square, as one of the premier merchant services this is a detriment if one wants to build sales pages and connect with Square. Stripe is an inferior merchant service in my opinion and to only connect with them or Paypal has cause issues in deployment with some of my customers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Lindsay Elswick of Ontraport

Hi Leah, it's wonderful to hear pages and sequences that used to take six weeks to build can now go live in minutes, and that the CRM dashboard has been such a strong fit for your business.

On integrations, while Square isn't a native payment gateway in Ontraport, it can be connected through Zapier. We'll also share your feedback with our product team.

Thanks for the feedback!

"Ontraport Delivers: Flexible Custom Objects and Powerful, Scalable Automation"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

Forms are one of the most underrated parts of Ontraport. You can build one and it just works, without fighting CSS or worrying about third-party plugin conflicts the way you often do with a lot of WordPress form tools.

Custom objects have been a game-changer for client work as well; they give me the flexibility to model a business’s real data structure instead of forcing everything into a generic contact/deal schema. That matters a lot when clients have unusual sales processes or need to track things beyond standard CRM fields.

The automation builder is also powerful enough to handle genuinely complex workflows—multi-step campaigns, conditional logic, lead scoring—without needing custom code. That lets me build sophisticated systems for clients quickly, and then maintain them without relying on a large dev team.

Cost-effectiveness as clients scale is another major advantage. Rather than clients outgrowing the platform and facing a painful migration once they hit a certain size, Ontraport tends to grow with them, which saves everyone the cost and disruption of switching systems later.

Support has been genuinely helpful too. When I’ve needed to escalate something technical, I’ve gotten real answers instead of being bounced around a ticket queue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Ontraport?

One area I’d like to see improved is the lack of a true decision diamond (branching) element in the automation builder. It’s definitely workable to recreate branching logic with conditions, but it ends up requiring more steps than a native decision point would. For smaller automations this isn’t a big deal, but as automations get larger and more complex, those extra steps add up, and navigating or troubleshooting a big workflow can become unwieldy compared to platforms that offer cleaner visual branching.

Also, as the number of tags grows across an account, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep everything organised. Stronger tools for searching, grouping, and cleaning up unused tags would make a noticeable difference. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Lindsay Elswick of Ontraport

Hi Ben, this is an incredibly thorough review, thank you for taking the time to lay out exactly how you're using Ontraport across client work. It's great to hear forms, custom objects, and the automation builder have given you the flexibility to build real, sophisticated systems without needing a dev team behind you, and that scalability and support have held up as your clients grow.

On the decision diamond and tag organization, those are exactly the kind of detail that's useful for our product team to have. We've passed it along to them.

Thanks again for sharing.

"Ontraport: A True One-Stop Business Partner for Clients, Classes, Payments, and Web Updates"
5/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

I am able to easily track my clients, set up classes, take payments, and change my website on my own. I have an ontraport specialist who helps me when I need deeper design/capabilities and he understands the intricacies and capabilities of Ontraport. It is my one-stop business partner Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Ontraport?

The one thing I wish were a bit more robust or easy to use would be the "email" or newsletter function. Since my CMS is here, I would love to be able to design intricate emails like in Constant Contact without having to use an outside design tool and then import as an html file. I am not able t use some of the fun gamification plug-ins that come with the Stripo tool I use as they do not work with Ontraport Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Lindsay Elswick of Ontraport

Hi Amy, thank you for such a detailed review. Saving 8 to 10 hours a month on your astrology reports is incredible, and it's great to hear Ontraport's been able to support that alongside tracking clients, running classes, and managing payments all in one place.

On email design, that's great timing to bring up. We've got new AI features in the works that will let you build things like emails just by chatting, which should make that kind of intricate design feel a lot more doable without needing an outside tool. Stay tuned for that.

"Transformative Power, Innovation and Support from Ontraport"
5/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

I find Ontraport to be a life-changer for both us and our clients. It does everything we need, from building what we envision to cutting down manual work significantly. I love how easy it is to create beautiful webpages and collect information through forms. The powerful automation features elevate our productivity, and the dynamic CMS offers a whole new layer of power for creating portals, web apps, and dynamic websites. The Ontraport support team is incredible, always happy to help with even the most complex questions and scenarios. I also appreciate that the platform is easy to use while continually innovating and releasing new functionalities. Their commitment to improvement is a strong point, with innovations like Dynamic CMS and the AI MCP layer changing how we work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Ontraport?

I'd love native show/hide conditions on pages for custom object form data. Right now we hard code, or find other workarounds. But honestly, it's such a minor thing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Lindsay Elswick of Ontraport

Hi Rebecca, this is such a thoughtful review, thank you for taking the time to write it all out. It's great to hear Dynamic CMS and the AI MCP layer have made such a difference in how you work, and that our support team has been able to help with even your most complex questions.

On the show/hide conditions for custom object form data, we'd love to dig into the specifics of what you're working on, there may be more flexibility here than expected depending on how the relationships between your objects are set up. Feel free to reach out to our support team directly so we can take a closer look together.

Thanks again for sharing all of this, it truly means a lot.

"Ontraport’s Robust CRM Automation with the API Flexibility I Needed"
5/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

It's a pretty robust contacts database and automation system, with solid features to adapt to any needs. While they moved on to full UX features, I scaled back to the basic features as I code my own systems and integrate via API. I actually tried replacing Ontraport with some of their competitors. The others looked good on paper but lacked critical features, lacked decent API support, or where overly fragmented. After looking all around, I I decided Ontraport was best. I re-created a clean account with cheaper plan and cleaned up all my systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Ontraport?

For many years, I had a grand-father pricing which ended up costing me a lot more than I should; but since migrated into a new cheaper account scaled for my needs. API had some weird quirks but I developed Ontraport.NET library to access the API which hides all those quirks. Other than that, it's mostly minor issues that got solved over time. Ontraport grew into a pretty robust platform. Certain things require slight work-around but I never stay stuck. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Lindsay Elswick of Ontraport

Hi Etienne, thank you for such honest and thoughtful feedback, this genuinely helps us. Really glad Ontraport held up as you explored other options, and that the API flexibility has let you build things exactly the way you need them. The Ontraport.NET library you built sounds like a fantastic solution, that's impressive work.

We also appreciate you sharing the pricing experience. Glad the move to a new plan worked out well for your setup. Thanks again for taking the time to share all of this.

"Ontraport is a solid choice for pretty much any business!"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

Ontraport is an incredibly powerful and flexible platform that brings CRM, marketing automation, and customer management together in one place. The automation capabilities are especially impressive and have helped streamline processes, save time, and keep everything organized. The platform offers a tremendous amount of customization while still being easy to adapt to your organization’s needs. Overall, Ontraport is an excellent solution for anyone looking to simplify their workflows and get more out of their customer data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Ontraport?

One small downside to Ontraport is probably the learning curve. There are so many features and customization options that it can sometimes be difficult to find exactly what you're looking for or figure out the best way to accomplish a task. That said, once you become familiar with the platform, its flexibility and capabilities make those shortcomings quite easy to overlook. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Integrated Solution with Stellar Customer Support"
4/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

I love Ontraport's customer service, especially their chat, which is available often and always gives me what I need. I'm really grateful for how everything is integrated, allowing me to send newsletters, build web pages, lead pages, and shopping carts. Everything interacts with lots of automation. The customer service has great hours, and whenever I get stuck, I can reach out for immediate help that's easy to follow. It's really helpful in keeping my business moving. I've been a grateful user for over thirteen years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Ontraport?

I think building the pages, the web pages, could be a little bit more intuitive. And a little bit more user friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Lindsay Elswick of Ontraport

Hi Christina, thirteen years is incredible, thank you for your continued trust in Ontraport all this time. So glad our chat support has been quick and easy to lean on, and that having newsletters, pages, shopping carts, and automation all under one roof has kept things running smoothly for your business.

On page building, that's great feedback. We've actually got a new modern interface coming soon, plus new AI features in the works that will let you build pages just by chatting, which should make that process feel a lot more intuitive. Stay tuned for that.

Thanks again for taking the time to share this.

"Powerful for Automation, but Steep Learning Curve"
4/5
What do you like best about Ontraport?

I really value Ontraport’s flexible custom-object data models and visual automation builder. They allow us to map complex lead journeys and set up subscription billing without needing another payment tool. I find that affiliate tracking streamlines our partner campaigns, which is very helpful. The custom-object data models are especially useful for storing unique candidate and partner data alongside regular contacts, letting us track referral agreements and service contract details without maintaining messy external spreadsheets. I appreciate that our automation workflows can pull this custom data to personalize follow-up sequences. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Ontraport?

Ontraport comes with a steep learning curve for our junior marketing-ops staff, making onboarding challenging. Bulk contact imports sometimes fail without providing clear error logs, leading to tedious duplicate-contact cleanup. Custom-object reporting is limited, which forces us to export datasets externally for analyzing our leads. Additionally, automation triggers can occasionally misfire on high-volume campaigns. When syncing large contact batches, some custom-object fields drop out, requiring manual cross-checks to ensure compliance. Getting Ontraport up and running involved troubleshooting automation rules and payment workflows, demanding hands-on walkthroughs for junior teammates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Lindsay Elswick of Ontraport

Thank you for the detailed review, Stacy! It's great to hear the automation builder and custom objects are helping you consolidate billing, lead tracking and affiliate management into one platform.

We also appreciate you flagging the friction points you ran into, and we've shared that feedback with our product team.
