This is a Network engineer, We have experienced different types of motoring tools. For my current organization, we used Nagios XI to monitor our Fiber ring and all SNMP servers.

Basically our company is a category "B" ISP and offers different types of services like lease lined, Bulk Bandwidth, MPLS-VPN, P2p, etc.for all over Maharashtra, Goa state. All our network core locations connected via fiber cable so it's a very important task to maintain our fiber connectivity stable and maintain reliability in our network.

Nagios XI provides all critical infrastructure components including services, operating systems, different network protocols, network infrastructure, etc. and end to end monitoring with proactive monitoring.

In our network, we put all our core fiber point in SNMP protocol and Run Nagios XI tools.

If any link goes down this application generates alert and our monitoring team checking these alerts and accordingly arrange our fiber team for restoration purposes.

Nagios is open source and it has great benefits received to users like providing a large amount of configuration capability and the best thing is support community.after installation did in our network reliability has greatly increased.

Pros:

1)Simple to use interface

2)Its free tools so it's a good solution if you are on a minimum budget.

3)We can easily add and remove any type of link with minimal configuration.

Cons:

1) need to have experience in configuration checks.

*We used Nagios XI for Fiber ring monitoring for the last 4 years. Basically we have large fiber network which is deployed on different cities in Maharashtra, India and our overall traffic is manipulate over this fiber only so Its very important to maintain our fiber with minimum downtime.

*For using Nagios XI we are monitor and maintained this fiber ring topology with end to end monitoring server performance and highly effective with limitless scalability.

*And also we can plan for proactive monitoring and awareness.its give automated and integrated capacity planning graphs, as per our observation we can easily change or replace our circuit without taking downtimes. Nagios priorly provides all this important information to us so we can easily maintain changes in network.

*Some other features provided like great GUI interfaces, easy to use, highly customize, Advanced graph monitoring, etc.

A product perhaps too complex for those who need it quickly. It will take beginners a lot of time to understand and get used to the structure and configurations of the application. The GUI interface becomes a bit slow at times if there are many users simultaneously on the network, despite being configured on NIC ports up to 10 Gigabits per second.
