**What do you like best about BigCommerce?**

Freedom to build/develop custom solutions. It's one of two reasons we left Shopify.

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

It's been a mixed bag. We came over from Shopify and I feel Shopify is much more user friendly. We were promised a universal store that would allow us to operate globally through a single domain and the delivery of that product has been pushed out several times. Instead of having a single .com site we currently manage and operate 5 instances (.com, .co.uk, .ca, .eu & .au)

**What problems is BigCommerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Freedom to build custom solutions. We have a custom built report site we built to create data sets unique to our needs. We couldn't do this on Shopify.

Customer support always available in different ways (phone, e mail, chat).

Some performance issues have been unsolved for several months.

Expand our customer base to places that we don't currenlty serve.
Facilitate our internal odering processing by keeping our sales reps out of the phone lines.
Show all the products we offer without the need of having them in stock.

**What do you like best about BigCommerce?**

The SEO capabilities over Shopify and the lack of fees

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

Everything else but mainly the deception, rudeness, and lack of care for their clients.

Halfway through our first year's contract, Big Commerce decided to tell us via email that the next year's annual renewal would need to be paid up front. That's over 100k up front. When we paid monthly.

It took multiple calls, to get to the point of speaking to a finance director. A Mr Washington who had a melt down when confronted with his horror show of a plan. Long story short, he was extremely rude and had to be removed from the call but not before he stated on behalf on Big Commerce that our money was worthless to them.

He also stated a bonus of paying 100+k up front was better invoicing..... so weak it's pitiful. 

The thing any merchant looking at using Big commerce needs to think about is this bit, someone being rude etc is not a good look but it's not the end of the world.

Being told our money and by transference our time, effort blood and sweat is worthless is galling to say the least

but taken alongside the fact they tried to pull a number on us in the most devious of ways says it all

1. They waited until halfway through the contract, knowing we had spent at leat 20k to move to Big commerce
2. they leveraged the fact that having spent the 20k most merchants would be stuck between a rock and a hard place and therefore would not leave
3. They leveraged the timescale in moving meaning a merchant or in this case us , would have limited time to decide how to move forward.

it was calculated and done with real intent to harm us and benefit them


The end result is Big Commerce can not be trusted, their platform is not exactly perfect by any means and the sales pitch is just that and not a reality.

I warn anyone thinking of using Big commerce to think again, it's a clear and present danger to your business, and it will harm and not help it grow. 

As a merchant you're busy trying to grow your business and as platform they are figuring ways to extract more money in underhand ways from you.

**What do you like best about BigCommerce?**

I had a Big Commerce site in 2012 that I absolutely loved. We left the platform for a while and came back in the end of 2017. For a while things were pretty smooth. However, Big Commerce recommended me to a developer to build our site. They charged me $40,000and built a fully custom site that only they could work on so that they could earn another $3000 to $4000 a month. This is actually a good part of my experience with Big Commerce .

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

It was impossible to find anyone who knew how to work on the platform and all of the “preferred partners “did not know a number less than $40,000. Such a racket and a total scam.
 In 2020, I had all of the customizations removed and began to take care of the site myself. I was an enterprise client with dedicated level to support which was generally quite helpful. However, due to slower business from the pandemic, I really negotiated my rate in early 2023 to $1000 per month . apparently, that's not enough money to get decent support. They dropped me back to level one Support and often times the people I got new less than I did. I do not have the patience for that especially not paying that kind of money. I reached out to the CEO and was told by him personally that they weren’t going to do anything to help me. So I moved my Store to Shopify Plus. By the way, I was able to fully build the Shopify plus store all on my own have never built a site before. The tools made it quite easy to make a site that was far superior to my Big Commerce site in each and every way. I cannot even begin to tell you how much better the features are on Shopify. 
I contacted Big Commerce three times  to put my site on hold so that we would have access to historical data. It took 3 emails for them to finally respond . When attempting to migrate the store, the format that their export tools put things in is impossible to format correctly for any other platform with regard to  orders. When I finally heard back from Big Commerce about putting my sites on hold , these people actually had the audacity to try to even raise my rate to not even have the stores on their platform anymore but just have access to historical data. Did I wake up on another planet? WTF? Do yourself a favor and run to Shopify or Shopify plus. Superior support, incredibly superior platform.

None whatsoever ! So done with their awful service

**What do you like best about BigCommerce?**

BigCommerce has allowed our business to expand nationally with ease.  The plug and play implementation - without coding knowledge is a huge plus.  BC immediately changed the shopping experience for our customers.  On top of that, excellent customer support is there for us during times of need, and they never leave us hanging!  Overall, we very happy we chose BigCommerce - and have not looked back!

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

There are many features that we wish we could tailor to our specific needs, but understand BC has built a platform that works for such a wide audience.  Some apps help the issues we run into, but not all.

**What problems is BigCommerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prior to BigCommerce, we did not have an online shopping presence.  BC has solved that problem and we continue to use the platform to expand / reach new goals.

**What do you like best about BigCommerce?**

As a long standing partner of BigCommerce, we've been impressed with the ease of use of the product as well are the ease of integration. We continiously work closely with the BigCommerce team to ensure our connector always up-to-date. The customer support team it top notch and resposnive.

The Partner Manager, Kyle, is an absolute pleasure to work with. He's a doer and knows how to get projects done.

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

There are no downsides about the BigCommerce platform. If there are any negatives, it would from a partner persecptive, it can be difficult to get co-marketing initiatives off the ground.

**What problems is BigCommerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BigCommerce helps our customers sell their catalog online. We also use BigCommerce internally as an extension of Pimberly. Our customers and their vendors/suppliers have the ability to view their products within Pimberly as if they were in a BigCommerce instance.

Overall I love the support that BigCommerce offers. They are swift to reply to issues that we cannot solve in-house. Another big advantage is the platform itself is very easy to use and allows people with little web development experience to get a site up and running in no time.

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

One of the biggest downsides that we have experienced is the stability. Sometimes when rolling out bigger changes there can be lasting effects that impact the website's accessibility and functionality.

It integrates well with our ERP and allows us to consistently sell and deliver products to our customers.

**What do you like best about BigCommerce?**

I like that it's a fully managed platform with a range of third party plugins that can easily be added, though the plugins don't come close to those available on Shopify.

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

Their customer service used to be a strength, now it's a real problem. The agents used to be Americans highly trained on the platform. They've since switched to outsourcing their service and it's rare to get a representative with strong English who has a strong education on the platform. On my last ticket, it took me a three weeks to get an answer to a basic question. The first response came a week after my ticket was submitted and asked for my website and support code, both of which were in the initial ticket.
The ticket was about a pricing error. On their website it clearly states their pricing. They charge a flat monthly fee for a certain amount of sales per year. Then they charge additional amounts based on "Online sales per year Calculated on a trailing 12-month basis." My plan allowed for $400,000 a year in sales plus $150/month for each additional $200,000 in sales. When my sales went up, my pricing went up. But then my sales went down, and my pricing didn't go back down. I submitted a ticket and when I finally got their response three weeks later, it said that they only automatically raise prices. It's apparently up to me to track when I'm being over billed and submit a ticket asking them to lower the bill to their pricing requirements. Of course, in the three weeks it took them to respond to my ticket, they had already billed me another time. And they will give me no refunds for being over billed. Nothing on their pricing page mentions this and I think it's completely misleading.

They give me a fully hosted ecommerce platform. I like that it's someone else's job to make sure my website is up and running 24/7. When I first started with them, they offered excellend service as well. Unfortunately, that has not remained constant.

Have been using BigCommerce (BC) since 2009.  It has spent a lot of long days and nights and is the reason I was able to get my business to 8 figures.  Thank you.

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

Finding the right team that matches something like BigCommerce is essential.  Sometimes, it is a challening to align with a team that is passionate about the product (BC) as well as your business.  So maybe a little hard to find good parallel skills.

Scaling a growing business and helping me find solutions to scale further.

Some essential functions and features are typically available through a third party (there's an app for that) instead of being an important feature created by Big Commerce out of the box to keep your enterprise moving forward.

The look and feel of BC is easier to control. Do you want to change the way an address field looks? You can do that. 
You want a 1-step checkout, which can happen with a few changes without going to a developer.

The Seo seems decent in that I am top ranked with not much effort on my part other that doing the basics you read on SEO guides by wiritng good copy and using the right keywords.

Site seems to be up most of the time.

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

Support is useless, They either point the finger at someone else orcompletely misread what you are asking for. I can't tell if this is deliberate or not but it sure feels like it. You will ask them to fix X and they will respond with 35 different ways to say that Y is working just fine. No matter how many time you say "but I am talking about X not Y!" They won't budge. It's down right dastardly. You almost have to respect thier commitment to doing nothing and tiring you out so you live with whatever is broken. 

They will raise rates and fees and when you ask them to not break the commitment they made on pricing they will blame whoever else they can or respond with something semi-related but not actually addressing your concern.

They might get an account rep to engage you and talk about your problems for months that will promise things and by the time you've said all you can about it nothing will have changed. At all. I almost admire thier cunning methods of doing nothing and changing nothing.

I wish I never started with them.

BigCommerce does everything.

Absolutely nothing. BigCommerce is a money pit.

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

Their servers are likely to be retooled DOS 386 machines from the 1980's.

Our site is constantly going down, experiences server errors, or slow as molasses.

I'm on one of the higher "Pro" tiers so, per their messaging, I'm supposed to be on a better server. Not a chance. They "escalate tickets" but, in the end, refuse to do anything. And I'm stuck with them for a year.

BigCommerce is absolutely AWFUL! Our conversion rate is around 40% lower than it was on our trusty (yet very dated) NetworkSolutions store.

I am beyond dismayed, and it's not looking likely that my business will survive, thanks exclusively to the wretched infrastructure of BigCommerce.

STAY. AWAY. At all costs!

BigCommerce should be shut down for misleading their customers and failing to deliver on what they advertise.

In their API document they have explained each and everything and it is very easy to find API's. Store management ,product management,paymanet gateway  and online business is good.

I think product pricing is more for online products.

They offer integrations with many plug ins and apps which makes your life as a e commerce professional much easier and they have 24 hour support available to customers

You do not get to speak to developers about your issues, only support staff and their multi store product is not fully developed yet and has lots of snags and issues.

E commerce needs are fulfilled with campaign linked to google and social marketing, automated emailing to customers as well as video and image options and badges for products to entice shoppers.

Started off as a great system for a small business, but within a few years they stopped fixing issues, broke their own search, ignore requests in their forum, and just left their customers.

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

They won't fix issues. Act like the issues don't exist. Worse is when they break their own stuff so that you are forced to go find an app to do it at a monthly fee while they still increase their own fees.

Mostly works well! So much easier for us than our old platform, Magento. The direct customer support and regular cadance was nice.

Sometimes it goes down, the rates are going up significantly and the level of service available is going down.

It's very good for small retail business who want to jump in online business. Security, payment & checkout process are very smooth and easy.

It's not open source so security is very good and not provided much customisation so Speed is good.

BigCommerce has many of the features that you'd expect from a professional ecommerce shopping cart system, including SEO tools, multiple product images, the ability to add navigation and search to products, easy categorization, and lots of add-ons.

Status codes can't be customized to your specific business. Blogging system is very limited. When our sales went up, our pricing jumped up without warning and was not negotiable.  BigCommerce is not good for businesses with slim margins.

BigCommerce integrates with many of the major online sales platforms, including Amazon, eBay, Etsy, and others. Many of the comp technical aspects of running a business are handled behind the scenes with BigCommerce's cloud setup and team of technical staff.

I work at an e-commerce company in the tactical industry, and BigCommerce will still do business with us, unlike other companies such as Shopify and WooCommerce. Happy with that.

The user interface is horrible. Glitchy and often down. Customer support rarely has a clue on how to fix issues. Beyond that, any plugins they usually recommend either do not work or are much harder to implement than BC would lead you to believe, severely limiting your options for customizing your website.

It gives us a website on which we can sell products, which is excellent. That is just about it. It creates many more problems than it solves. Again, if we did not HAVE to use them, we definitely would not.

I disliked that you would have to go into so many different tabs to be ablento view the customers information. You would have to click on the orders tab, then customer information to view anything. I wish they had just put it all on one screen to view at one time.

It's intuitive and constantly being updated, which I like because it means attention is being put towards it, and it's not being let go.

Sometimes some features don't work, like I can't access the apps within the back end, or new updated features are incompatible with my setup because I've been using the older version, but I have been using BigCommerce for years. Its like I'm being punished for setting up my products in a certain way, when that's all I had available. Also, not being able to have more freedom with product options, for example, removing an option if a customer clicks another option, or removing a product option from view if out of stock for specific items (not across the board)

We wanted to offer more variants than the product page would allow and there was no way for a developer or an app to make the limit higher. We had to change our product strategy to work around this. Some more flexibility would be nice from time to time.

BigCommerce has a lot of great features out of the box, however, if you need something beyond the main platform's capabilities, there are lots of third-party apps (extensions) that can help customize the experience to meet your needs.

The plan can be quite expensive, especially for small businesses. I might consider sacrificing some unused features for a lower plan price if it was an option. There is also a bug in the code that they have not been able to fix regarding customer street addresses. This seems like something they should be capable of fixing.

One thing that attracted me to BigCommerce is that it isn't open source so there aren't frequent patch updates as required by platforms like Magento. There are many plugins and apps that integrate right with BigCommerce to make for a robust experience in order management, store setup, marketing, and website customizations.

BigCommerce doesn't have a lot of flaws. We have a dedicated account rep that checks on us from time to time and does evaluations for us. It's easy to grow our business with BigCommerce and not feel too many growing pains.

BigCommerce platform reflects the best engineering practices combined with the product that focuses on the best possible shopper experience. Rather than building a monolith, a BC team forged a reliable shopping cart that scales as your business grows. It provides an expandable platform for partners and developers to innovate on. The API documentation is excellent, and developers share a lot of knowledge/know-how in open forums. The BC customer and partner support teams are world-class, simply unprecedented amongst eCommerce platform leaders. Many of our clients choose BC over other platforms due to its lightweight, quicker time to market, and less cost of implementation and integration effort than other platforms. The platform roadmap of features and innovation is rich, filled with fundamental merchant enablers, such as omnichannel, multi-storefront, and international commerce features.

**What do you dislike about BigCommerce?**

With its passionate focus on being the best-of-breed shopping cart, BigCommerce also is relatively standardized in its core features. Customization is possible but comes at a cost when one has to build a unique integration or s set of business rules. We usually build cloud custom serverless apps and connect them to the back end of a BC store for our clients when something advanced is required. However, for most use cases, there are plenty of apps and extensions available through the BC marketplace. They cover a broad range of B2B and B2C functionality and integrations with the most popular eCommerce products and services, such as marketplaces, payment gateways, shipping and financing methods, tax services, personalization engines, and others.

**Recommendations to others considering BigCommerce:**

People often confuse BigCommerce with Shopify or Magento in terms of their architecture / similarity, but all three represent entirely different approaches to engineering a modern eCommerce solution. BigCommerce is an excellent choice for merchants that have both needs and means to grow their online businesses and who want to get up to speed fast.

**What problems is BigCommerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BigCommerce works in both end-to-end as well as headless deployment options; we have implemented both quite effectively. We have successfully deployed custom business logic and rules to enhance and expand BC functionality for our clients. It worked for clients of all sizes ranging from a regional B2B music accessories manufacturer and distributor to a national auto parts retailer. We work with Fortune 1000 brands that use BigCommerce in their DTC / direct-to-consumer channel experimentation and are building great-looking sites leveraging its OTB templates as well as fully custom storefronts.
