"Effortless High-Quality Meshing and Seamless Optimization Workflows"
What do you like best about Altair Hypermesh?

What I like most about Altair HyperMesh is how easily it handles complex geometry and generates clean, high-quality meshes. When I’m working on topology optimization or compliant mechanism design, the meshing step can make or break the whole analysis—and HyperMesh gives me a lot of control without slowing me down.

I also really appreciate the flexibility in setting up optimization and analysis workflows. Once you get used to the interface, you can prepare even detailed models very efficiently. The integration with OptiStruct is another big plus because it keeps the entire design–optimize–validate loop smooth and consistent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altair Hypermesh?

The main challenge with HyperMesh is the steep learning curve. It’s incredibly powerful, but the interface can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to do even basic operations in the beginning. A lot of tools are buried in menus, and you need to know exactly where to look.

Some workflows also feel a bit click-heavy, especially when you're doing repetitive tasks like geometry cleanup or setting up contacts and load cases. It works well once you’re used to it, but new users can get lost easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I find the solver capabilities of Altair Hypermesh lacking, which need improvement. The solver card presents challenges, particularly for new users, making it difficult to navigate and utilize the software effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Mesh Generation with Automation Capabilities"
What do you like best about Altair Hypermesh?

I love Altair Hypermesh because it transforms what used to be a tedious, error-prone prep phase into a smooth and almost enjoyable workflow. It excels in speed and automation with features like batch meshing, allowing me to run dozens of parts overnight, saving days off a project schedule. Its scripting capabilities using Tcl/Tk make repetitive tasks much simpler, significantly enhancing efficiency. The mesh quality control is outstanding, with the interactive quality checker that highlights and addresses problematic elements in real time, ensuring high-quality meshes with improved element shapes for faster solver convergence. Altair Hypermesh offers seamless CAD integration, enabling direct import of major formats like CATIA, NX, and SolidWorks, reducing time spent on cleaning up imported files. It provides a unified environment where I can set up materials, boundary conditions, contacts, and loads all in one place, simplifying the process and reducing manual translation errors when exporting solver-ready decks for various tools like ANSYS or LS-DYNA. Additionally, its scalability is impressive, as it handles both small and extensive models with ease, maintaining performance regardless of the model size. These features collectively give me confidence that the mesh I create is ready for any analysis, making the engineering cycle significantly faster and more reliable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altair Hypermesh?

I'm glad you’re digging deeper! Here are the areas where I find Altair Hypermesh a bit frustrating or where I think it could evolve: - Steeper learning curve: The UI is very powerful, but the sheer number of menus and icons can overwhelm newcomers. A more streamlined “quick-start” workflow (maybe a guided-tour mode) would help new users get productive faster. - Scripting language: Altair Hypermesh uses Tcl/Tk for automation, which is functional but not as modern or widely known as Python. Adding a Python API (or at least better Python wrappers) would make scripting more accessible to the broader engineering community. - Performance on huge assemblies: When loading multi-million-element models, the interface can become sluggish, especially on older workstations. Optimizing memory handling and providing better progressive loading options would smooth those large-scale sessions. - Licensing cost: The software is a significant investment, and the per-seat pricing can limit access for smaller teams or occasional users. A more flexible, pay-as-you-go model (e.g., cloud-based tokens) could broaden adoption. - Documentation & tutorials: Some advanced features (like custom element quality criteria or complex contact setups) are sparsely documented. Expanding the online help with more step-by-step examples and video walkthroughs would reduce trial-and-error time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible Design Tool with Some Limitations"
What do you like best about Altair Hypermesh?

I really appreciate the ease of usage that Altair Hypermesh offers, which makes my work much more efficient when handling finite element analysis. The flexibility to create new concepts with finite elements is remarkable, allowing me to develop innovative ideas effortlessly. I enjoy using the HyperMorph tool in Hypermesh, which provides exceptional control over shape creation or modification of concept designs in FEA. The ability to draw lines using free nodes effortlessly is a feature that distinguishes Altair Hypermesh from other software, enhancing my modeling experience. Additionally, the setup process is straightforward and efficiently managed by my IT team, smoothing out any initial hurdles and allowing us to start working without unnecessary delays. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altair Hypermesh?

I find the Abaqus contact creation workflow not user-friendly, which can be a hindrance when working on detailed projects. The absence of automatic pitch adjustment for spot welds during Morphing is a drawback, as it limits efficiency in some complex design tasks. Additionally, the 1D skeleton modeling tool is restricted to Optistruct in Hypermesh, which restricts my ability to fully utilize it with other solvers. Large models take a significant amount of time to render, affecting my productivity when working on extensive projects. I also experience a lot of data loss when importing from ANSA to Hypermesh, which complicates the process and potentially leads to inaccuracies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"One package does plenty"
What do you like best about Altair Hypermesh?

Hypermesh 2022.3 marks the end of an era, offering users full control over mesh creation and model setup. It integrated seamlessly with other Altair tools, forming a comprehensive suite—particularly well-suited for OptiStruct and optimisation analysis. It's clear that Altair has aimed to unify the user experience by aligning Hypermesh’s interface with the look and feel of their broader software lineup. However, adapting to the new GUI will take time—something many users struggle to find amid the pressures of client-driven project work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"user experience of HM24 and of transitioning from HM17 to HM24"
What do you like best about Altair Hypermesh?

general:

-a lot of freedom in modifying the geometry creating a mesh suited to specific requirements

- possibility to have the mesh attached to the cad surface; this makes a local remesh or a local geometry modification easier to implement

- easy to organize model with assemblies and components

- lots of options of personalization

- customer support is very good. fast and helpful replies, possibility to schedule meetings and trainings

- possibility to generate inputs for lots of different solvers

- interface has nice design and is more intuitive for new users compared to the old interface

compared to Hypermesh 2017

-faster autocleanup

-automatic feature detection (e.g. fillets of a certain radius)

-keyboard commands Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altair Hypermesh?

general:

- it would be great to have more refined mesh controls in simlab style

- the autocleanup for big components still needs a lot of manual cleanup by the user, to avoid bad element qualities (like close lines etc.)

- small inconsistencies: e.g. sometimes it is necessary to hold "crtl" to select more surfaces, other times it is not necessary

- small bugs: e.g. when the user enters in the element quality visualization the keyboard commands stop to work and hypermesh must be restarted... very annoying

compared to Hypermesh 2017:

- element quality check was a separate menu option, not only a visualization option

- modification of the mesh (freeform-interactive) was faster, more responsive and better in general

- set segments definition (like contact surfaces) in abaqus interface on HM17:

- could be defined on 2d or 3d mesh, it did not matter;

- they could also be deleted and reorganized like elements;

- the could be unmasked with the option "unmask adicient";

- definition of set segments was generally much faster than in HM24

-> all these features are relevant in a simple, small model, but in a big model they are very useful

- "unmask adicient" command seems to be missing

- measure option in a local coordinate system seems to be missing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Very Good Experiences with Hypermesh, I am using it from last 10 years"
What do you like best about Altair Hypermesh?

Having worked with numerous software platforms, I consistently prefer HyperMesh for meshing tasks.

1. The user interface is exceptionally intuitive, complemented by comprehensive and well-structured tutorials that facilitate a smooth learning curve.

2. HyperMesh offers robust and user-friendly geometry cleanup tools, making it effortless to prepare even the most complex geometries for analysis.

3. The software excels at meshing intricate parts, delivering outstanding performance with tetrahedral meshes and demonstrating remarkable capabilities with hexahedral meshing.

4. The morphing functionality is both powerful and highly practical, significantly enhancing modeling flexibility.

I have frequently utilized HyperMesh for component optimization, and each experience has been both productive and insightful.

5. The ability to customize workflows using TCL scripting has greatly improved efficiency, allowing for tailored solutions to specific user requirements.

Overall, my experience with HyperMesh has been extremely positive. It stands out as a highly capable and versatile tool in the field of finite element analysis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altair Hypermesh?

While HyperMesh offers many strengths, I have encountered some areas where the software could be improved:

1. With each new release, certain highly useful features are sometimes removed, which can make the user experience more challenging. For instance, in versions 17 and 19, users could easily toggle the "keep mesh" option from "advanced mesh" by pressing "o" during meshing. However, this convenient functionality was removed in version 2021, and similar changes have occurred in versions 23 and 25.

2. Although customer support is often excellent, there are occasions when the standard recommendation is simply to upgrade to a newer version or to modify the geometry, rather than providing a more targeted solution.

3. It appears that some algorithms have changed in recent versions. For example, I created and meshed the same geometry in both version 2017 and version 2021. In the 2021 version, more elements failed quality checks and a higher number of nodes were generated, whereas in the 2017 version, only a single element failed with less number of nodes.

4.The transition from versions 2017/2021 to version 2025 has been particularly challenging. As a result, I continue to rely on the older versions for my work.

Overall, I believe there is significant room for improvement in these areas to enhance the user experience and maintain the software’s high standards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great experience with the software, especially with the company's support team."
What do you like best about Altair Hypermesh?

HyperMesh was one of the main tools I used during my research project at Ford and I’ve had a really positive experience with it so far. It is packed with powerful features, especially for pre-processing. Setting up 3D meshes and optimization cases became a lot more intuitive after some hands-on time. I have also been using Design Explorer frequently for DOE and optimization studies, which has helped a lot. I really appreciated the Altair Learning platform. The training content was very helpful and well structured, especially for someone who is still learning and developing in the CAE field. The support team was also great. They were always patient and willing to help, offering meetings, sending reference models and even assisting with debugging when I ran into problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altair Hypermesh?

I had some issues in the beginning, mostly related to installation and compatibility with my company OneDrive system. The software initially struggled to locate solvers and open files stored on my company’s drive, which caused some delays. After some adjustments these problems were solved. I have also shared some suggestions with the team to improve the Generative Design tool, especially to allow it to run on more than 32 threads to speed up the simulation process. "The mesh of your simulation will never be a problem again"
What do you like best about Altair Hypermesh?

As can be inferred from the title of my review, the meshing engine of Altair Hypermesh is the best on the market today. I am a regular user of this and other similar software from competitors, and without a doubt, the meshing is not only consistent but also stands out for the ease of carrying out a good mesh.

On the other hand, it is noteworthy that, in case of any doubt, the customer support service will be there to help you in record time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altair Hypermesh?

If I have to point out a flaw in Altair, it's the small step remaining for the full integration of all the utilities from the old interface to the new one, which is much more intuitive but in my opinion, there are still some steps missing for its complete integration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
