## Surfcam Reviews
  ### 1. Surfcam is the simple CAD software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Viktor H. | Machine engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Surfcam?**

The best of the software you don't need another product to make program for CNC machines. It is all in one. From design to production.
- don't need to many time to learn it.
- it is simple to make postprocess program for another CNC machine
- the writing on the product it is also easily to do, just chose your font.
- program price.

**What do you dislike about Surfcam?**

No many updates. It is like have focus on 3D model and for production to make G code program to CNC machines.

**Recommendations to others considering Surfcam:**

Easy to learn and handle it.

**What problems is Surfcam solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To make metal plate for machine. Table with text. In production we make different kind of machines, so every one have different text, properties. Our engineers was unable to make it in solidwork, so I take it to make one in surfcam.

  ### 2. Not the worst software I've ever used.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Surfcam?**

First, I'd like to say that I've had absolutely ZERO training on this software, so my viewpoint may be a bit skewed. I've been using it for almost a year and a half now, and I'm finally halfway comfortable with programming with it. Once I figured out how to do some of the 3D geometry, it got a little easier. The 2D geometry functions are pretty simple and straightforward.

**What do you dislike about Surfcam?**

After using Esprit software for several years at my previous job, it's just not as user friendly on the 3D functions of surfaces.
Also, the version I use doesn't seem to do well in importing all file types, but that may be caused by something on our side of things, as far as IT file transfers. One problem I ran into recently was 3D milling a tapered hole. It was a real pain just to get one of the 3D functions to do the hole.
It would be great if there was a helical mill style function to do a tapered hole instead of the ramp in/ramp out function that I ended up using. Maybe there is one already there, but I couldn't find it.

**What problems is Surfcam solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It seems to work fairly well with the Haas toolroom mill that I program for on a regular basis.

  ### 3. Good in writing posts but not good for comfortable working

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gulam F. | Leading Design Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Surfcam?**

The most helpful about SurfCAM is good ''mini-program" in writing post processors. Also surface milling is not bad.

**What do you dislike about Surfcam?**

The program is very uncomfortable in use. It's very uncomfortable in definition of stock and MAC position. Also very hard to work with solid files for example in drilling, you have to make 2d sketches around holes to drill it, you can't just choose holes in solid file. (STEP)

**Recommendations to others considering Surfcam:**

N/A

**What problems is Surfcam solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was working in mold design. 3-axis works.
Now i use another CAM program which is really comfortable for me.

  ### 4. Easy to learn and use.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Surfcam?**

The titles says it, it was easy to learn and use. But I also liked its ability to proof a program before actually putting it on a machine.

**What do you dislike about Surfcam?**

I haven't used other CAM softwares so I can't really think of any dislikes.

**What problems is Surfcam solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There's no way I would've been able to get my job done without a CAM software and SurfCAM played a vital role in my job. I'm no longer working where I used SurfCAM, but learning it was a pleasure and I enjoyed working with it.

Program is so easy to learn. I had to say that. If you're familiar with these programs even easier. Buttons are icons are designed for all people. You can also work on 2D drawings and you can make it 3D in program. It imports variety of exchange formats. It includes top programs like Solid,AutoCad,Catia,Siemens.

**What do you dislike about Surfcam?**

Nothing especially as much as I remember.

**Recommendations to others considering Surfcam:**

If you're working with many different programs. It's so useful. You can sketch and model your part and probably you'll glad after using it. You can find so many tutorials to learn this program and it makes you learn easier. Also having book is a huge plus for me ( I like book tutorials :) )

**What do you dislike about Surfcam?**

Problems I recall with the software is mainly related to frequent crashes of the software, and time to generate the visualization of the toolpaths, sometimes the software were crashing losing half of the job. However, I believe software upgraded since the time I used it.

**What problems is Surfcam solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Surfcam was used in the university CAD/CAM laboratory (American University of Armenia) for product design projects as well as for external projects in cooperation with different companies. During 1 year of my involvement in the lab, Surfcam helped to translate the designs for CNC Milling machine, and results were satisfying.

With SURFCAM Velocity I could dynamically manage tool loads, produce smoother cuts and boost productivity on any existing CNC. True-Mill provides a revolutionary new toolpath engine that precisely controls the tool's engagement with the material, enabling the use of much more aggressive machining parameters, which in turn results in significantly reduced cycle times.

**What do you dislike about Surfcam?**

While doing both lathe and milling jobs with the same version, Vel 3 did not convert back to 3 axis mill view after I programmed a lathe job. I ended up running the lathe on the Vel 2 and my mill on Vel 3. But this bug was later fixed by Surfcam.

**What problems is Surfcam solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Everything can be customized, from tooling to the set-up sheets. You can really set it up so that you can use it the way that you want to.
