The only thing I would like to see more of as a developer is a more in-depth documentation and walkthrough guides to service problems independently. As a smaller company, the price to get the full support suite was a bit steep, so maybe a pay-as-you-go support model for when you need it would really put their services to the next level. **Recommendations to others considering Solodev:** If you are not familiar with the AWS environment, setting up Solodev will be challenging. The getting started guide helps, but we ran into problems multiple times when standing up a stack. If you pay for their support package, the support team at Solodev will get you running and answer any questions very quickly and effectively. **What problems is Solodev solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are building a full suite of old websites being modernized to a new cloud environment for our customer. They have never used a CMS before to edit content on their websites, and Solodev has sped up the review and collaboration process for making changes. The ability to have our individual departments manage their own pages because the system is plug and play. I no longer have to worry about my team messing up the look of individual pages. The system takes care of that and is so easy to use! **What do you dislike about Solodev?** My least favorite thing so far is that now that my website is live I have to publish in two places in order for content to immediately show up. **Recommendations to others considering Solodev:** If you are looking to create a whole new look and feel for your website I would HIGHLY recommend Solodev. They gave us a superior design, listened to what our needs were, and completed the job in a very rigorous timeline. **What problems is Solodev solving and how is that benefiting you?** The use of a module for staff is really going to help us minimize the issue of an outdated staff list and provide a great directory! The NEWS module is a feature that we look forward to helping get stories out about our district before anyone else has the opportunity to. The calendar module gives our community a great way to sort our events to find the information they are looking for. The I Want To Module is already a big favorite of the community as well. The superior design makes it so easy for our community to find what they are looking for. They have also been absolutely fantastic with communication from the design team to the back-end developers when we have something that needs so be tweaked. ### 4. Everything is 100% custom, so if you dream it, you can do it. This is easy. Drag & Drop feature to the design and development of your website will help you move things faster. It is compatible with all devices. It is by default in the AWS marketplace. Also, it has excellent integration with salesforce, and it works perfectly with Marketo digital marketing app. **What do you dislike about Solodev?** As I said, this is 100% custom. Everything is custom, which will be a problem when we want to make minor adjustments without coding. That's it. There is no other dislike option or features in Solodev. **What problems is Solodev solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's easy to navigate through the back-end, and the pages are straightforward to update. So there is no problem with this as a web developer. Their staff is very knowledgeable and is always very willing to explain why something is happening or how something helps or what issues there are in a way I understand, which helps me be able to explain it to others who have less knowledge about website maintenance. **What do you dislike about Solodev?** Their system is not user friendly. It's often hard to find what your looking for and can make things like updating numbers on web pages take longer than it should or would in a better organized system. Other changes are just completely unavailable and requires the team's help even if you know how to solve it yourself. **Recommendations to others considering Solodev:** If you think you're doing to need a lot of support managing your website and want more control over it than something like WordPress or SquareSpace will give you, you may want to consider Solodev. However, you're going to pay for all those services, so really think about what your needs are and what kind of budget you have. **What problems is Solodev solving and how is that benefiting you?** Solodev helps keep my company's website healthy. I do like having a team I can reach out to, especially about larger problems. Their team is very quick to respond and very knowledgeable. It's nice knowing there's a team out there who can solve issues that arise. It's good website insurance, so to speak. One thing I do think Solodev could improve on is explaining exactly what they're doing behind the scenes. I have enough technical knowledge to know there's a lot that goes behind keeping a website up but not enough to understand it or explain it to anyone else when they ask about it, which leaves me and others wondering what the day-to-day is. **Official Response:** > Thanks so much for your input! Their team of dedicated professionals is highly responsive to emails and prompt to resolve issues. They listen to concerns and needs. I'm especially appreciative of their willingness to show corrective steps taken - so you can learn as you go along. They treat all levels of CMS knowledge with kindness, patience and respect. They also bring helpful ideas and solutions to the table. **What do you dislike about Solodev?** Navigation and layout isn't always intuitive and the site is not as user-friendly as WordPress. Solodev recently made upgrades - some good, some bad: Being able to drop and drag photos for uploading is a notable improvement as is the updated layout. Other features I frequently used and relied on were removed, for example the button for embedding a YouTube video - it now requires the video to be added through Source. **What problems is Solodev solving and how is that benefiting you?** I cannot say enough about the benefit of having Team Solodev support! I am confident that they will handle an issue and follow-up with me without my having to ask for a status update. This is a big time saver and allows me to focus on other work. ### 13. I also thought the one-on-one training of the CMS was helpful. The staff got back to our concerns quickly. They are timely with responses. **What do you dislike about Solodev?** I felt that we did not receive the best customer service for the price that we paid. I also feel that there were issues with the CMS that made the back-end difficult to edit. While I loved the overall website design, I don't know if it was worth having to work-around the difficulties of the CMS. I felt like much custom coding was needed for simple functions. **Recommendations to others considering Solodev:** I would agree that Solodev is timely with their projects. I have enjoyed working with members of their team. They have done a good job at training us how to use their CMS including bringing us to their corporate headquarters to learn the software. Sometimes their CMS feels clunky and I have trouble finding things, so it might not be good for beginners. It takes time to learn but its unique features make it worth it. I hope that eventually, they will fix bugs that are in their system. **What problems is Solodev solving and how is that benefiting you?** Problems mostly deal with the CMS back-end. I do not like how you are unable to custom change URL. Solodev did not have the most intuitive back-end, because my co-worker and I had to find workarounds to change small things. We also would have trouble finding the location of files, etc. ### 14. We’re also able to manage users really effectively and review drafts before publishing. Finally, their service is awesome! I wasn’t expecting to get the kind of dedicated support that helps us solve problems quickly. **What do you dislike about Solodev?** The online documentation is pretty solid but there are few articles that could use additional guidance. They have a built-in library of managers for adding features like a blog, but it helps to have a developer handy if you want to style things a specific way. Some integrations are easier than others, and a few require custom help. Good news is they offer support to do more advanced API work. **Recommendations to others considering Solodev:** If you’re looking for a platform that solves a lot of the problems and headaches of WordPress, then this is the closest you can get. I needed to rapidly update the content but my hands were full. Not only did Solodev’s support team take it on, but they made several recommendations to help improve the mobile experience. One of the biggest advantages of Solodev is the integration with our martech apps, including Salesforce and Pardot, which are essential to our marketing and sales programs. I like how we can set permissions, so a lower level a user doesn’t accidently break our website when updates are made. I have found this to be problematic with other platforms. The service is probably the other winner for me. When I have questions, I have someone responding quickly and they’re usually familiar with my project - it’s not just a call center.
