So many competitors to Quartzy are overbuilt and overpriced for our needs. Quartzy was the incredible compromise between the two. I especially enjoy the top tier customer service and apparent willingness for continual improvement as suggested by their users. Most of the Quartzy employees I've spoke with are previous lab managers and have an innate understanding of how everything works "on the ground" so to speak. Our accounting department likes that we're able to leverage Quartzy's large purchasing power to garner better prices on our regular consumables, usually 15% or more cheaper. In times of supply chain weakness, I've been relieved to find Quartzy has available stock, not picked clean from the majority of consumers. I often use the requests tab to price shop, often finding better deals than we've been habituated to. I use Quartzy almost every day and encourage lab members to submit for seats if they want to. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** Quartzy could have a better categorization and filtering mechanism in the shop search results function. I wish Quartzy was able to ship and deliver a little faster in general. I'm aware I can pay for expediation if I need to, but just generally faster overall. If I were in charge, the UI would be more customizable and view settings could be saved to profiles. For me, I would want a much more condensed ledger of inventory items, seeing both more rows and columns. Landing me on the requests page at login probably works great for most people, but I find myself wanting a kind of dashboard answering questions like; "How many active orders do I have out? How many are backordered? Any new request activity? What's the low stock list looking like? " **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Labor intensive shared Excel Sheet for purchasing and order management, prone to error, only one person has it open at a time --->Web-based, shared application for purchasing and order management. It is great that many products are available directly through Quartzy shop often at a better price than directly through the vendor an or are quoted very quickly to match pricing. Customer service has always been very helpful and nice as well. We love the app for receiving too. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** Perhaps it is the version of Quartzy we use, but receiving packing slips can take a long time when things are drop shipped from the vendors... It would be amazing if everything came with a Quartzy barcode that could be scanned! Also sometimes there is a glitch in the app when chosing an inventory location and perhaps it could show who received an item. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quartzy helps organize our requests and allows us to find the best price. ### 3. Our less technical employees required a lot of training to be able to perform basic functions. Also, they run a credit limit on things that are requested independent of when they ship and they accepted only 1 of the 6 references we tried to send, so essentially we can't increase our credit limit and can only buy $3k at a time, which is not a lot for reagents. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's nice to have all our lab orders in one place. Also allows us to check easily if someone else already bought something we want. ### 4. The alternate buying/price options offered by the Quartzy interface is very important and by far the greatest software's feature alowing our laboratory to save hundreds and thousands of dollars on most purchased lab supplies. Importantly, this automated Quartzy's "Quotation " system creates a strong price competition to the major vendors like Fisher Scientific or ThermoScientific that have contract agreement with our university. In my observation, this emerging competition may even affect the University-specific (discount) prices we get from those contract vendors by lowering prices even more in their attempt to win us back as customets. Besides, the process of order placement for the Quartzy-offeres products through this software is very fast and easy. The system of instant order confirmation through email with the accompanying itemized transaction receipts is a very convenient feature for account management purposes and P-card payments. The ability to calculate spendings for a given period of time and numerous filters to sort those spendings by user, vendor, funding source etc and export date to Excel provided by this interface is highly valuable for accounting, general spending control or money management purposes. We are very happy with the customer support services too. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** The obvious downsides of the Quartzy software that are clearly improvable are occasional webpage loading delays and system glitches in the process of moving products from one category to another (from "New" to "Ordered" and "Received".This automated transiton sometimes does not always happen instantly and sometimes requires page reloading to occur properly. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Helps to save money and create purchasing history and inventory of purchased supplies. ### 5. The approval systems works well while there are some problems as well. We like how it is connect to the Sigma, Fisher etc database. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** It is ok to have an option that items can be purchased from quartzy but some university will not allow this options. If possible, there could be a way to hide this option or let it not interupt the regular use. The fee for quartzy is high and that is why we are leaving quartzy. There should be some better, affordable option, for example, one time purchase for the unlimited use. Or even with Ad in the software. The approval system is good but it is too simple - all admin can approve the orders - we hope to specify the funding source and corresponding approver. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quartzy makes the approval chain easier and save us a lot of time. We utilize ordering from our inventory, which is an easy way to update inventory counts. Qbot is also very convenient for us since we put in frequent orders throughout the week. The use of barcodes helped the whole team use Quartzy easily while still being organized. The Quartzy team itself is very speedy and available for questions about ordering, optimizing Quartzy, and any small hickups that may occur. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** Sometimes it is hard to switch between ordering by case and transfering to individual units for in-lab barcodes. Our lab typically unpacks large cases of items for our lab (therefore ordering by case), but the counts for min/max in the lab are by unit, so requesting via Quartzy with barcodes can have extra work to ensure the unit size when ordering. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ordering and inventory. It is allowing us to have this information tracked in one location and is easy to update/use. ### 7. We like to use Quartzy to bridge the communication between our lab members and our purchasing department. Customer support is very responsive and quick to respond. New lab members are quick to learn how to use it to request supplies. We use it daily to place orders for items. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** I wish that Quartzy's user interface was slightly better. The browser "remembers" things too often when I am trying to navigate the site. For example, when trying to navigate different labs, it will remember that I once logged into an inactive lab, and try to use that lab for rest of my session. I wish there was a way to hide this inactive lab, so I can only use it when I am trying to dig through the archive. Other times, when I want to search for an order, it will not search for it in the current lab unless I select it a couple times. Sometimes search functions are not responsive, or even navigating at the top ribbon. You have to click it a couple times for the site to load. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** We meticulously track orders using Quartzy. I don't know of a better way to manage this. My other labs use email to request items, and threads get VERY messy quickly, especially between google and outlook. When there is so much back and forth (order's confirmed, confirmation number, tracking number, order was received, invoice was paid), Quartzy is a nice place for all of that information to live. It helps us stay organized. ### 8. It has gone through multiple iterations since then, but each one has only enhanced the user experience. It has been by far the most efficient system we have used for ordering and maintaining inventory of our labs. I recommend it to all scientist that I have talked to with similar concerns. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** I do wish it were easier to link accounts so that I could see the inventory of another lab within the same organization. They may have that essential ethyl-methyl-X that I need for my experiment that I just dropped on the floor. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quartzy helps me maintain an accurate inventory and reduces my searching time when I'm trying to remember where I stored that chemical I just bought. The Quartzy shop makes purchasing easy and fast. Grouping every requests in one order and just a click away. The inventory system is very helpful. The system provides tracking information on orders and makes everything transparent and clear. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** I wish quartzy would make it earier to put in a request that's not available from Quartzy shop, such as outside venders. When requests are fullfiled from an alternative source, ourside venders, I wish quartzy would allow the user make the entry easily than mannually fill in everything box by box. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quartzy is time saving and convinient, each team members can put in their own request and that allows admin to group everying together and place an order quickly. It keeps track of shipping and allows user to know when to expect packages to arrive. ### 10. Whenever I need to cancel an order, I get a rapid response. There have been times when I was informed by the support team about the status of orders, and they offered to find replacement items for me. This gesture was very much appreciated and saved me time trying to find a replacement. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** The time it takes to receive items is long. I can order directly from the vendor and receive the items faster. I don't know the benefits as the end user to use Quartzy. Their prices are not always cheaper. I work with a lot of vendors and they offer better pricing. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** I like the inventory feature. I barely have to show new employees how to request orders because of how user-friendly is. We do a lot of work under grants, and need to be able to separate purchases based on which grant mechanism may be funding it. So its very helpful to separate them, and we don't even use some of the functionality to coordinate our inventory. Its a great tool **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** Major dislike is how often we order a product and it ends up being out of stock/unavailable/delayed. Its mostly the providers, but I wish quartzy could have a little forewarning of stocking issues before we order, rather than a day after **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mostly the marketplace allows us to have a single repository for all of our purchasing, and coordinating and organizing all the expenditures. The first time I used it, I didn't use the full amount, thinking I would use the rest of it on subsequent orders. Instead, the entire credit disappeared. I had to ask them to cancel the order and reinstate the credit. I rarely purchase directly from Quartzy since my institution usually can get lower prices or free shipping from the vendor. Quartzy's Handling Fees are also a nasty surprise upon check out, and often make me revert to purchasing through my institution, even if it initially appeared that Quartzy's quote was lower. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Tracking orders. ### 17. Keeps all of our orders/requests listed in one place (even for the orders that we place outside of Quartzy). **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** When we've had problems the support has been lacking. Due to a mistake on Quartzy's side, the first invoice that we were billed did not make it to our accounting department and when it went unpaid for two months because the accounting department did not receive it, we were locked out of our Quartzy account until the accounting departments on both side figured it out. So for two weeks we were unable to use the system that we had become dependent on. I reached out to the account manager supervisor over our account manager and requested that our account be unlocked while the bill was being processed and I received no reponse and the account was not unlocked. So, now I'm leary of being locked out of our inventory tracking again. We spend like 3 times the amount of that initial bill monthly, but we were locked out and unable to make any orders in that time. Seems like a wise business choice. Especially since during that time we had to place a HUGE order through a different vendor for an upcoming project. We made it through, but that was a very frustrating experience. **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before using quartzy, keeping track of what each lab member and scientist needed for their projects was difficult. At times we were not able to verify whether things had been ordered or not, or when they would arrive. It was messy. Quartzy has greatly simplified that. ### 18. While placing orders, some items show up as ready to ship, however this status changes a few days later to "backordered" or shipping later than expected. Quartzy keeps track of everything you'd want in a inventory ordering system. Previous requests, automatic lookup, lookup by product number. You can even order from amazon and ebay. Its just very well planned out. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** The problem I have with quartzy, is that quartzy is incredibly slow sometimes. The optimization on the website is terrible. Database management needs to be a priority because you can feel exactly how slow previous request lookup is. A lot of times, requests will time out and just be stuck on a loading animation. Even better is the fact you can do a lot of these things with your phone app they just released! **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** Getting duplicate entries and having to remoe them can be tedious and I'm sure they will solve that issue down the road! **What problems is Quartzy solving and how is that benefiting you?** It solves most if not all of our lab management issues espcially being a small biotech startup for now. It was wasy to use and the features allowed for seemless transition from item request to aquisition. **What do you dislike about Quartzy?** As an academic lab, we were intially able to use Quartzy at no-cost which was a great opportunity. They discontinued the discount, and planned to charge $500 per user, which would have resulted in an approxiamtely $5000 annual expense that we could not justify.
