Who is Panopto pricing best suited for?

Based on G2 reviews of Panopto, its pricing is best suited for mid-market and enterprise organizations in higher education. The overwhelming majority of G2 reviewers come from universities and colleges using Panopto for lecture capture, LMS integration with platforms like Canvas, Blackboard, and Moodle, and accessible video delivery at scale. Enterprise reviewers highlight Panopto's reliability and deep integrations as worth the premium cost. G2 reviews also show adoption in corporate sectors including IT services, aviation, automotive, and healthcare for training and internal communications, suggesting Panopto's pricing works well for organizations with high-volume video needs and existing LMS or conferencing infrastructure to integrate with.

What are the key differences between the free and paid versions of Panopto?

Panopto does not offer a permanent free tier but provides a free trial for both its Higher Education and Enterprise plans, allowing prospective buyers to evaluate the platform before committing. According to G2's pricing data for Panopto, both paid tiers include core capabilities such as recording, editing, live streaming, video on demand, automatic captioning, in-video search, storage, archiving, and smart chapters. The primary distinction between tiers is that Panopto's Enterprise plan includes broader translation capabilities compared to the Higher Education plan's caption translation feature, reflecting the different deployment contexts and organizational needs each tier is designed to serve.

Is Panopto considered good value for its pricing?

G2 reviews of Panopto present a mixed but generally positive value picture. Many enterprise and higher education reviewers rate Panopto highly, praising its reliability, LMS integrations, automatic captioning, and searchable transcripts as strong justifications for the cost. One G2 reviewer explicitly called Panopto's pricing structure economical for large-scale video storage. However, cost concerns surface repeatedly: multiple G2 reviewers describe Panopto as expensive, with one mid-market higher education reviewer noting the cost is prohibitive based on user count, and another flagging ongoing price increases. One reviewer also noted that enhanced features sit behind additional paid walls, making value harder to justify without user testing access.

"Great LMS Integration, But Course Setup and Pricing Need Work"
3/5
What do you like best about Panopto?

I like how the software integrates with our LMS to automatically record and store the lectures. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Panopto?

I dislike having to manually set up ever individual course and the pricing structure Panopto currently uses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Olivia Andrews of Panopto

Hi Adam, thanks for the feedback, especially on the LMS integration doing its job automatically, capturing and storing lectures. On course setup, that's fair feedback. I want to mention that Panopto offers a Bulk Scheduling Tool for Remote Recorders that lets admins upload recording schedules in one pass instead of configuring each one individually. If that's not already part of your workflow, our support team can help you get it set up. On pricing, that's specific to your account and best handled directly, so I'd encourage you to connect with your account manager to talk through options.
