iTerm2 is my goto terminal. This is the first thing I install while setting up my new computer.
The terminal is very lightweight, runs natively, supports a multi-tab layout, split-screen layout, or both.
The kind of settings it provides is limitless. You can really customize it for your liking.
The best features I like are:
- Natural text editing keyboard scheme.
- Keyboard shortcuts
- Split-screen and window management
- Color scheme customizations Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
iTerm2 is almost perfect and there is almost nothing I dislike.
There could be a slight improvement in performance when a lot of sessions are open. Other than that, iTerm2 is best. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
iTerm2 is the defacto standard for web developers on macOS. It works well, is very customisable and has a beautiful UI. It allows for many different profiles and can be customised for different use-cases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There isn't anything I dislike, it does everything I expect from a command-line application. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It allows to save the profile names and password.I can also set shortcut for those profiles and password which is great the option in iTerm2.It's much faster compared to default mac terminal and it provides more customization options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If you have multiple tabs and dark theme then it's hard to notify in which tab you are currently working, If that can be identified by some colored dots in the heading of the tab or some good color change it will be easy for he developer. Apart from this I don't have any problem with iTerm2. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Probably the best terminal I ever used, so many customisations possible, very frequent updates that always bring something new to the table or brings you great improvements. Possible to be used with other flavours of terminals like Fish or ZSH,... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are a lot of things to configure which might be a bit overwhelming for a new user. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Being able to run my commands on a very very customizable tool, it's usually stable and helps getting things done as expected, also it runs fast and doesn't seem to consume a lof of the computer resources which is always a good thing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
From time to time it's not as stable as I'd like to, nothing too bad, bug if I had something to improve it'd be the stability Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have tried a lot of command line applications and i found this to be the best of all. Iterm2 does provide a lot of functionalities. It provides lot of keyboard shortcuts, password manager to save the server passwords. You can create user profiles and assign different setting for each profile. It also does provide various themes and fonts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It lacks the functionality to auto enter the password when trying to login to the server unlike an app called terminus which auto enters the password if it is saved. So in Iterm2 i need to go to password manager and select the password. If that functionality is incorporated, i do not have any other cons with Iterm2. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The ability to open multiple tabs and, above all, multiple panels in the same window. I am a developer and vert frequently I need to keep multiple shell opened in the same window.
I like the ability to customize the colors of the shell and the integration with ZSH and nmux that improves a lot the terminal experience.
You can set almost any hotkey combination imaginable. The value in this is improving and streamlining productivity one hotkey at a time.
The application provides also interesting plugins that allows you to speed up your work. For example you can see images within the shell with Image Plugin. Very useful when you are working with folders that contains a lot of images.
Another key iTerm2 feature that I like so much is built-in search, which makes poring over pages-long log files much easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes keyboards combinations does not work as expected and you need to do a little manual configuration before to work.
Font rendering is not the best in some circumstances but close and reopen the application solves the issue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The colours ! Lots of theme can be applied. So many plugins can be added. I use this extension called Oh My Zsh, which is a really cool extension. Gives you a lot of options like themes, auto complete, shortcuts and so much more. Its so light weight. Features like multiple windows and so much more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
So far there's nothing to dislike in it. It's all going good man. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Iterm2 with Zsh customisations are the best. Dark theme in iterm2 is a boon to the people who work in night. Zsh have many plugins such as autosuggestions and reverse keyword search to help you run the commands with ease. We can setup hotkeys to manage multiple window configurations.
Community support and Frequent releases makes me love the product more. There is good amount of plugins across the plugin generation yet still the plugin marketplace needs to mature Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Toggling between multiple screens could have had a shortcut. Integrations with system notification for many terminal actions. Resizing makes the terminal break. SSH sessions are not sustained. Integration options are custom built and are not readily available in the internet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The terminal application iTerm2 is a must-have for any macOS installation. It is an easier, friendlier, and more feature rich alternative to the bundled macOS Terminal application. The ability to have different profiles for different terminal use cases is invaluable. The timestamp functionality to know when you ran commands is quite useful. The ability to have multiple windowed tabs in different configurations is wonderful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I find that some of the command shortcuts are not as intuitive as I would expect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Visually it is much nicer to look at than Terminal and you can download skins and such. The font if easier on the eyes and most of the engineers on our team use it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Nothing really. I like it way better than Terminal. It's not very clear how you get cool add-ons. I learned about them by accident. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
iTerm has a bunch of useful features that make it an indispensable replacement for the default OS X Terminal application. It supports tabs, split panes, configurable scrollback, and a great set of visual affordances.
The best thing, though, is that it's a first class OS X citizen -- links are clickable, it can be configured to treat tmux sessions as additional windows & panes, and can highlight text based on pre-defined criteria. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's so configurable that it can be hard to get setup. Once you have a workflow that works for you, it's great! Getting there can be a bit of an adventure, though. It has a ton of options and documentation to match. However, getting a good setup involves a lot of trial and error. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Iterm 2 is hands down the best terminal if you're using a mac. Period. No questions there has been a lot of though put down in creating such a beautify terminal. The theming community is great and the terminal is snappy to boot. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Nothing again. iTerm2 has never betrayed me for any task I threw at it. The timely updates do help keep it good. 👍🏼 Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If you open up your terminal at least once a week it will make your live a little bit better. If you spend most of your day in a terminal, you can't live without it. I mean you can, but why bother? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If I'd have a gun to my head, to absolutely name one flaw, maybe I'd say the customisation options for keyboard shortcuts (addig one) might need a bit of clarifications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The app is so open, there's a seemingly endless list of options that allow customisation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Still the usual limitations of working CLI. Can be intimidating to beginners. Perhaps a type of predictive text or similar would be a useful addition for newcomers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is easy to use, easy to customise and gives the user the true experience of a unix terminal, The password manager feature makes it safer to use,Being able to color code tabs makes it easier to identify your workspace when working with multiple tabs. The fact that its open source there is continuous improvement on the application. Automatic profile switching is also a great feature. If ever you loose a connection to a server you can easily use the restart session feature and this will ensure you do not loose history of the work you have been doing. The feature for showing timestamps makes it easier to follow up on what you have done and gives you details of exactly when you did it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One thing that can be improved is the update process where it in most cases does not automatically update the application.Another cool feature for this would be the ability to open a folder in finder from the terminal,This can go a long way in improving how users interact with the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
iTerm allows you to do just about anything that you would want with your terminal. You can set up different window arrangements, shortcuts, visual customizations, support for oh-my-zsh and other plugins, fonts that utilize glyphs for git, and much more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My only substantial complaint with iTerm is that it is difficult to work through the settings/preferences. Luckily, there are plenty of articles online to walk you through just about anything. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Lots of customizations, like opening new tabs in the same directory, plenty of themes online for iterm colors, fast, unlimited history scrollback. Being able to use my mouse to edit a long command in between is invaluable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My only gripe is that the unlimited scrollback for history doesn't always seem to work Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
i like alot to use iterm2, i think it brings the best from the terminals from any other unix like system, its customizable which its very nice to have, and the ability to split screen to have many windows on the same terminal, its very stable, no crashes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
theres no much to dislike, iterm2 team do it very nice, its very stable terminal, in 2 years just 1 crash, so i think its very reliable, i would like to have the option to change the color of the non focuses windows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It has really awesome built-in autocomplete feature and tabbed navigation. It is as easy to use as regular Terminal app, and it comes all ready to go out of the box without any additional customizations. iTerm2's visual style is highly customizable, so you can adjust it anyway you want it to be whether it is different colour scheme, font, transparency etc. What I also like about it compare to different Terminal replacement apps is the fact that is completely free to use, and that it is open source application with great support and constant updates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Honestly, there is nothing that I don't like about it. I wish that it was a default version for Terminal on all Macs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
iTerm2 offers lots of freedom in customization, and has the potential to look beautiful and make you more productive than with the default terminal. iTerm2 is a very decent successor to the older iTerm, and it's being continually improved, with almost weekly updates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Because there's a ton of customization, sometimes navigating the menus can get bothersome, and finding a setting you need is not so easy unless you use Google to look for help, which I often have to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
