We looked at factors such as availability of ready-built integrations, established/existing customer base, compatibility with our choice of tech stack and cloud provider, and ease of use. Cortex came out on top in almost every area. When it came to pricing we were expecting them to be the most expensive as we narrowed down our choices, but we were pleasantly surprised when they offered us the most competitive deal. We have had a lot of support including an intensive onboarding/adoption phase, and the product is doing well in the AI space with a MCP server and a virtual CIO capability. **What do you dislike about Cortex?** There is a lot less to dislike than there is to like. We would like to see improvements to workflows and to the UX as we are not only using the platform for developers but for engineering leaders to view metrics, KPI and compliance reporting **What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Cortex helps us with self service workflows, a dynamically updated service catalogue that pulls data from our GCP projects and becomes the source of truth for other products such as Datadog and incident.io, as well as giving us dashboards showing continuous compliance status of applications and other performance and engineering intelligence data **Official Response from Tiffany Thain:** > Thank you for the review, Mit. Intuitive, Integration-Rich Catalog—But Adoption and Data Drift Take Work **Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Graphic Design | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2026 **What do you like best about Cortex?** Cortex finally brought order to our chaos. The UI is intuitive and our devs picked it up fast, with everything in one place instead of bouncing between Jira, Confluence, Swagger, and cloud accounts. The 60+ integrations and automatic metadata ingestion mean the catalog maintains itself, and it's scaled smoothly as our estate has grown. **What do you dislike about Cortex?** A catalog is only as good as what you feed it. Once integrations start drifting or metadata goes stale, you can end up with a portal that looks authoritative but is quietly misleading. For us, tracking down and correcting bad data became its own job. Driving real adoption was also harder than we expected. Outside the platform team, a lot of developers simply didn’t open it, so there was a real risk of it turning into shelfware we paid for but didn’t actually use. On top of that, some of the configuration is fiddly and seems to assume a level of upfront investment we underestimated, and a few of the areas we wanted to customize were more rigid than the demos made them seem. Overall, it’s a capable tool, but it really expects a mature, disciplined organization to get consistent value out of it. If you’re not already operating that way, it can end up feeling like more overhead than payoff. **What problems is Cortex solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before Cortex, our biggest problem was that nobody could answer basic questions quickly: who owns this service, is it production-ready, what does it depend on, and where do I even find the docs. That knowledge lived in people's heads, scattered Confluence pages, and tribal memory, so onboarding was slow and incidents dragged on while we figured out who to page. Cortex solves that by giving us one source of truth for every service, with ownership, dependencies, and health all in one place. **Official Response from Tiffany Thain:** > Thanks for the review. How many times are alerts tied to a specific service? How recently were the commits to that service that relate to the incident? It all ties together well. **What do you dislike about Cortex?** Writing some of the rules is still a bit finicky.
