"Rapid7 - A platform that creates more problems than it solves for your business"

What do you like best about Rapid7 Security Services?

Their CRC Essentials license is absolutely value for money as it includes three of their products - InsightVM, InsightCloudSec and InsightConnect, giving us a nice package for all our needs including vulnerability management, cloud security and compliance and to some extent security orchestration and automation capabilities. What do you dislike about Rapid7 Security Services?

Whilst the package is great for a business like ours, considering we are a small security team, we got a wide variety of various services from Rapid7 in a single license, However, it has made our work significantly more which is pretty annoying. The InsightVM product is supposed to give us a nice coverage for vulnerability management but it seem to have missing coverage for some major softwares, including Visual Studio and NVidia which is a massive drawback especially for a games development company. It asks for a lot of administrative efforts to achieve a simple task. It lacks some no-brainer automation options for many stuff that we' currently have to do manually and there is limited options for integration to external tools/platforms which is also very disappointing. InsightCloudSec is a good platform in terms of identifying security misconfigurations and vulnerabilities but its a bit challenging to work with due to the lack of integration and automation options, leaving us to work more and more on excel sheets than Jira etc.

I've been using the platform for more than a year now and I think I raise more than 3 support tickets each month due to technical issues with the product and almost all the time I hear back 'we have never seen this behaviour with our tool before' from Rapid7 support which gets very frustrating as a customer. Recommendations to others considering Rapid7 Security Services:

Thoroughly review their vulnerability coverage to check it matches with the types of softwares related to your business or being majorly used within the business.

Always take the demo for all their products. Create a test environment and validate all the features/functions it offers before moving on to buy the product.

Go for a cloud-based console for InsightVM. We have struggled a lot managing our on-premises server and most of the time R7 supports just blames that something is wrong with our cloud infrastructure rather than investigating if it could be something wrong on their end.

If you want automation, thoroughly evaluate their API as it provides very limited functionality. For more than a year I've been hearing them say API improvements is on their roadmap but I see no change anywhere. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Rapid7 failed to scan our site and was unusable for the first 2.5 months of our subscription. We brought the issue to our account rep and to their billing department. They refused to discount our invoice for the time that the scans didn't work. We made multiple attempts to resolve the invoice with them. We were ignored. Then they initiated collections.
