Buttered Toast Reviews & Product Details

Buttered Toast Overview

What is Buttered Toast?

70% of venture backed startups fail. We're improving the odds. There are three primary failure points; go to market, brand messaging and positioning, and driving qualified demand. How do we know this? Because tech startups is all we do. We have been founders and have worked for some of the most prominent tech companies in San Francisco. We've lived it, so we know how to fix it. That's why we are referred by the most prominent VC's in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Vancouver and New York.

Describe the project or task the provider helped with:

Buttered Toast helped us with product marketing / positioning. We have always struggled to differentiate our product in a very crowded space, and David did a great job of interviewing people at our company, interviewing our customers, and using a smart, structured methodology to refine our positioning. We also got a lot of great, candid customer feedback which we hadn't heard ourselves. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

When we worked with Buttered Toast, our marketing team was only one person. We had very few resources, and they were able to work around that. Other firms we've worked with in the past have been more restricted in what they're able to do when we are resource-constrained. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I can't think of anything that I would say we disliked. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the provider? What benefits have you realized?

We were iterating on our product marketing and positioning. By working with Buttered Toast, we zeroed in on a brand promise and positioning that resonated more strongly with our customers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Describe the project or task the provider helped with:

I've worked with David Baeza for over ten years now across a multitude of organizations, watching him help early stage technology companies build successful marketing teams and programs from the ground up using frameworks and leveraging wisdom couched in his vast experience of almost 30 years in this space. The didactic approach that Buttered Toast employs in developing demand gen strategies, content development and integrated marketing campaigns is incredibly refreshing in a world that seems to bow at the altar of competitive emulation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Sometimes companies that are really good at what they do aren't really great to work with. Not so with Buttered Toast. My experience with David and his crew has always felt as though I was working with family. You always feel like you have a true advocate who values your success as much as you do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

That it's impossible to work with Buttered Toast on every project. If I could, I absolutely would. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the provider:

Get Buttered Toast on board as early as you can in the process of developing out your marketing plans. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the provider? What benefits have you realized?

The distinct problems have been all across the board, but have essentially have one foundational commonality. Helping early to mid stage technology companies architect successful marketing and demand gen teams and programs from the ground up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Describe the project or task the provider helped with:

Buttered Toast helped Aporeto think through the voice of the brand, company's positioning, and growth strategy. In a set of short and focused conversations, David Baeza added significant value. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

David has an engineering-like approach to marketing. He has a method and can walk through the details of his process, the inputs at each step, and what to do at each stage depending on the output. Because of his observable and repeatable process, marketing's value to the overall company becomes apparent and, as such, it becomes evident where to make investments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Buttered Toast has a very high-quality network of consultants. I dislike the fact that this network cannot be your permanent employees. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the provider:

Engage with Buttered Toast and have the discipline to make their consultation advice into company practice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the provider? What benefits have you realized?

The business problem was getting a high-quality marketing organization off the ground. The benefit was that Buttered Toast provided a solid foundation - in terms of processes, outsourcing firms, and a thought framework - to make it happen.

A good analogy to describe Buttered Toast is that of a world-class fitness coach. You will get excellent instructions to have a more fit marketing organization, but it is up to you to put the fitness coach's theory into practice with discipline. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Describe the project or task the provider helped with:

David helped us build out the messaging framework for not one but two brands. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

David is definitely in demand, so sometimes it was hard to get his time- but he frequently volunteered to be available evenings and weekends- David is very results oriented and driven. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Describe the project or task the provider helped with:

We recommended Buttered Toast to one of our portfolio companies - -a high growth, venture-backed SaaS-based startup. Buttered Toast helped this startup define their differentiated category, POV, messaging and overhaul their website design/content to include optimizing the website. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

This company grew from approximately $10M ARR at the time of Buttered Toast's initial engagement to a late stage startup - -$50M+ ARR with iconic logo accounts and established verticals. They raised follow-on funding and have won numerous awards in their industry category. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I wish Buttered Toast could have been brought on board on a permanent basis! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the provider:

I highly recommend Buttered Toast. As former operators from technology companies themselves, the Buttered Toast team understands and can empathize with their customers' business issues - -and help them to solve them in unique and effective ways. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the provider? What benefits have you realized?

This startup was initially positioning themselves technically to its customers. Their messaging was confusing and it didn't reflect the business issues that the company was solving for its customers (Ex - bringing down operating costs through the use of their software).
