## athenaOne Reviews
  ### 1. EMR good for large groups, more cumbersome for small or solo practices.

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David B. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2025

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

User-driven evolution, constantly adding features based on feedback to stay relevant. Deep customization for encounters, templates, and workflows. Robust reporting. The fax integration makes admin a lot easier.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

RCM, price increases, poor customer support, high learning curve, long integration, poor CSM quality.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AthenaOne excels at enabling customizable workflow templates and effortless clinic flow, ensuring everything runs smoothly. As an EMR, it delivers all the essential tools needed to operate a clinic effectively and efficiently.
Initially, the company was very helpful in launching my solo practice. They offered a generous introductory deal that included RCM and billing services, which were exceptionally useful in my first few years. However, issues with billing and RCM began to mount over time. The entire system worked well at first, but the quality noticeably declined after about two years. By then, I was paying a substantial premium for the features, which I was willing to accept. I often considered keeping just the EMR and dropping the RCM/billing to save on costs, but I remained loyal at that time.
Then, around year three, a 0.5% price hike pushed things into unacceptable territory. My already pricey but valuable solution suddenly became more expensive and less functional overnight. The most frustrating part was learning last week that downgrading to a bare-bones EMR—without features like automatic eligibility checking—would cost $800 per month per provider. This felt like a slap in the face, as so many other products offer far more for less than half the price. All I wanted was their solid EMR. I now regret ever opting into the RCM/billing; if I hadn't, I could have stuck with the $200–$300 monthly long term (in theory). But after paying them enormous sums over four-plus years, I felt like a piggy bank they were happy to gouge, with no regard for a long-term user like me.
TL;DR: While AthenaOne resolved my non-EMR headaches initially, those problems have returned as far more expensive issues, now turning into a massive headache as I transition to a new EMR.

  ### 2. Easy-to-Navigate EHR with Quick Access to Key Information

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** kelly b. | School based therapist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2026

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Very easy to get to information that you need without too many clicks to hace to click through mutiple screens you dont have to do that in Athena

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Nothing that comes to mind just initial learning curve but that is to be expected

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

How we entered behavior health treatment plans as well as documentation

  ### 3. User-Friendly EMR with Excellent Scheduling Tools

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2019

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I really appreciate athenaOne for its user-friendly templates and easy-to-use calendars and schedules. I love the Athena chat feature that allows me to reach out to colleagues effortlessly. It also helps me plan calls and schedules by viewing the calendars for our providers for the day. Additionally, it has been very basic and easy for us to use since we've been using it for nearly 15 years.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

The report feature doesn't seem to be narrow enough for our needs.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

With most every software consideration, just talk to others who have used it depending on the capacity that it will be utilized.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

athenaOne helps create lists of common patients for studies and offers user-friendly templates, easy calendars, and schedules. I use the chat feature to connect with colleagues and plan calls by checking provider calendars.

  ### 4. Tech-Savvy, Forward-Thinking, and Built for Growth

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michelle G. | Owner - PMHNP, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2025

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

AthenaOne is the tech-savvy sidekick I didn’t know I needed. Having an EHR and practice management platform bundled into one streamlined system is priceless for a busy mental health practice. The ambient note feature deserves a standing ovation—it has massively cut down my documentation time and lets me focus more on my patients instead of fighting with my keyboard.

The API integration is top-notch and honestly one of the best parts. It gives me the flexibility to connect the tools I want, when I want, letting me run my practice as efficiently—and as independently—as I need. AthenaOne doesn’t box you in; it builds you up.

Another major win? Athena’s customer service team. They’re not just helpful—they’re actual partners. I connect with someone from their support team every week or two, and every time, it feels like I’m talking to someone who understands the real-world challenges of private practice. They’re fast, sharp, and genuinely a pleasure to work with. In a world where customer service usually feels like screaming into the void, AthenaOne turns it into a conversation that moves your practice forward.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

The startup process was definitely lengthy. Getting everything built out and customized took time, patience, and a little extra caffeine. That said, it was absolutely worth it once everything was up and running.

The only other downside is that you really do need API integration if you want to maximize what AthenaOne can do. It’s not fully plug-and-play right out of the box if you’re serious about efficiency. You have to be willing to invest in setting up integrations to unlock its full potential—but honestly, once you do, it runs like a dream.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AthenaOne is solving the problem of chaos—the silent killer of private practice success. It brings everything—EHR, scheduling, billing, patient communication—under one roof, creating a streamlined, efficient system. No more juggling different platforms and workflows.

The biggest benefit? Efficiency and clarity. I’m able to manage my entire practice from a single platform, which saves me hours each week. The ambient notes feature slashes documentation time, so I spend less time typing and more time actually treating patients. Plus, the API integration lets me customize exactly how my systems talk to each other, meaning I can scale smarter, not harder.

AthenaOne also tackles the problem of terrible customer service that plagues so many healthcare tech companies. Having responsive, knowledgeable support that I can reach consistently has been a major stress reliever. I feel like I have a real partner helping me grow, not just a platform that took my money and ghosted me.

In short: AthenaOne fixes the tech headaches so I can actually enjoy running my practice—and keep my sanity intact.

  ### 5. We are very happy with Athena

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sheila R. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 27, 2025

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Athena is intuitive and easy for all the staff to use. Very easy to navigate the chart. It contains many more features than our small clinic needs but I will use Ahtena in a new practice that will have many more needs. We just integrated Athena with our phone system and can now see the patient information when they call into the office. Customer support is always very helpful but frankly they have not been needed much since we started with Athena in 2018.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

The reporting process is too robust for my needs and only one staff member has learned how to generate the reports that we need. Fortunately, the reports that we need are saved a library now so we can all run these reports.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

N/A

  ### 6. Aweful EMR

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex D. | MD, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2025

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The prescription writing as it gives you every option of dosages and quantitiy available.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Let me start by saying this is my seventh EMR. A whole lot. Its clunky, requires so many clicks to complete a task. It is designed for coding and for billing and NOT for physician documentation. I would never wish this EMR even on my worst enemies. I spend at lest 20% more time documenting them in the past. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. stay away from this emr at all costs.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nothing. It was chosen by a physician who should not be doctoring. 3/3 of us in the office do not like it.

  ### 7. continued interference with physicians actually working

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darren G. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2025

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The previous version was functional at minimum. They keep upgrading it which has made it more and ore difficult to use

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

continued "upgrades" that are horrible . Imports allergies from other sources duplicating what is already in the chart. Worthless. Imports fruit allergies to the med section- not appropriate

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are not solving anything, only make it more complex and aggravating to finish any charting / care of the patient

  ### 8. All around terrible for providers/end-users

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2024

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

You can see some notes from other providers the patient has visited. Sometimes you can send faxes from inside the program (when it works)

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Everything else
-notes take a long time and are clunky to complete
-unable to pull forward previous dx if encounters completed by another provider. Making notes a nightmare if you're covering for someone else.
-unable to choose your own diagnosis as something different or less specific will autopopulate
-the whole check in and check out process which many practices force providers to do. Adds 7-10 mins per note
-when putting in cases while on call, defaults to on-call provider instead of the provider who is responsible for the patient
-every time you open a note from another provider, it goes to your open documents and stays there until you close it. Hence I have almost 900 open documents in my inbox.
-many more. Just get an actual emr like epic.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None and none. Gets worse with every update

  ### 9. Its everything you need

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kimberly S. | medical biller, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2024

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

AthenaOne has every function we need to operate as a business office.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

AthenaOnes help desk can be a little slow getting back to you.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Athenaone solves all of our billing problems. Athenaone is the complete package from billing the claims out to its state of the art EMR to receiving and posting insurance payments. Its all you need to run your practice.

  ### 10. Not what we expected

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** melissa G. | Q, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2024

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

It is somewhat easy to naviage as the topics are condensed.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

It limited on the catergories which sometimes makes it difficult to find documents your looking for.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are only 2 years in with going live with AthenaOne

  ### 11. Great product, user friendly and intuitive

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2024

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

It's great - customizations are wonderful, work is easily shared and reassigned. Access tracking is top tier, and patient accessibility and understanding is quality. We've been very happy at all levels of care with this product.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Like all EMR, it takes some serious getting used to. Thankfully, the learning curve with this, like other Athena products, is so much less steep than with others. Taking a practice from paper to Cerner should be an olympic sport. Taking a practice from paper to AthenaOne is high school states.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides an all inclusive, comprehensive workspace for literally everything we're doing within the practice home - from Telemedicine to claims management, its all there, connected, funtional and intuitive. Providers like the simplified interface that they can choose to make more complex, nurses and care partners love the customization and ability to chart quickly and effectively. From the billing side, even a non clinical person can navigate easily to find needed documents, like orders, test results, etc that may be needed to work out their end of things.

  ### 12. Terrible business practices. Declining service

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2024

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Online EMR, number of features, integrated online fax

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Terrible business practices. signed a agreement for a percentage of my collections. After two years, Athena raised rates on me despite our agreement saying otherwise. Tried to force me to sign a different contract. Also terrible customer service. Constantly changing CSM. Terrible "enhanced billing" where you are still having to do the bulk of the work for backend and front end billing. Athena also makes it difficult to switch to a different EMR and essentially holds you hostage. Would definitely NOT recommend to colleagues.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Very poor attempts by athena to resolve issues

  ### 13. Disgusting implementation experience - never again

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David W. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2023

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The system itself does seem to be good once it is setup, however, setup is horrible, confusing, and the "team" assigned may know less than you do about how the system works. Support after implementation is good enough, however, it does not come pre-setup with any reasonable amount of pre-formatted tools, reports, workflows, or basically anything to operate a standard medical practice. Disgusting. I can't really say I like anything about it to be honest. It is non-intuitive in workflows and you can't even get an easy to see daily dashboard of activity, payments, etc.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Disgusting.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has not benefited us to this point. We lost over $275,000 in the transition that was totally horrible, time consuming (both on me personally, my staff, and taking over eight months). I would never go onto Athena and never would I recommend it to anyone.

  ### 14. Sinking like the Titanic....with no real lifeboats being offered.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melissa M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 02, 2023

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

AthenaOne does close loops for processes. The system intentionally directs data where it should go on clinical side. Also, it makes an effort to respond to customer concerns and ideas- which you are able to vote on in Success Community.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

All things RCM. We are an FQHC/ CHC and our business model was courted by Athena- they weren't ready then & they are still not responsive to serious concerns brought forth, to point we are financially at risk. The EHR & scheduling is fine; the billing & RCM components ( and new Dental EHR) and struggling, and customers are the ones paying ( because Athena takes first cut, regardless). I expected they would care that, for example, their system doesn't attach secondary payers- nope. Why shouldn't they? It matters when your customer is poor and secondary payer is important!

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were forced from our previous platform. AthenaOne promised to collaborate and deliver the EHR to serve our integrated PH-BH service model. Not a reality, unfortunately.
They are working on the product to improve portal, and patient engagement in at least English/Spanish. Athena's willingness to 'hear' you is there, it's having the full expertise in nuances for either your system and/or state regs that is the problem. They have vendor partners that are supposedly strong Athena users- didn't turn out that way for us, in fact, did more damage than good even after stellar reviews from other Athena users.
We are a specialty industry with a complex delivery- and they promised the moon- so far we haven't gotten out of the Earth's orbit compared to salesmanship.
If we could separate EHR from RCM, we would be happier ( and more financially healthy I have to believe after 3 yrs on product).
Finally, it is very expensive considering all other programs we have around and integrated to get full services we need.

  ### 15. Athena isn't perfect but it's pretty good

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dannielle S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2023

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I like that the interface is purple. Also, for the most part it's easy to use. I really like Athena text. The scheduling is probably the easiest part of the program. Labeling and organizing documents is pretty easy too. I also like that it doesn't take long to verify most insurances

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Athena can make things way more complicated than they need to be. The worst thing is prescriptions. Not being able to close prescriptions and instead the only option is to deny them is honestly a nightmare. replying to patient cases is also unnecessarily difficult

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating a schedule, replying to patients in a way that the message is already attached to their account, easy to navigate charts and a way for patients to easily access their charts

  ### 16. Convenient and easy to share and update electronic records

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maria T. | Medical Researcher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2023

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The sections in a patient record are well organized and common symptoms are available to click on, saving time on typing. I like there are pictures beside each patient name to make finding their records faster and easier. There is also a sign in page of all the providers so it is easy to keep track of who saw and participated in record keeping of the patient.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

There is lag when scrolling through the different pages of the record. It is also not easy to communicate with the health care provider when a scribe is finished with the chart or not. An improvement would be some type of clickable or written notification between the scribe and health care provider.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Athenaone decreases burden on the health care provider by allowing a scribe to listen in on and record the patient visit while the provider is performing physical exams.

  ### 17. Good product with ways to customize

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fran S. | Chief Operating Officer & Practice Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2022

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The clinical side of Athena is excellent. They also work closely with their clients to grow the product and improve and modernize the workflows. The product is fairly intuitive once you start working with it. The team works hard to ensure that the community is succeeding.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

We are a direct pay practice, so our metrics differ from what Athena usually watches as part of their KPIs. We've worked with Athena customer service and direct training to find ways to work around this, but we had to do it all on our own. We found workarounds to make the system work for us. It was challenging and exhausting at the beginning and during implementation, but it's worked out that we have efficient workflows, so it is all good.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows us to keep the patient's information together - demographics, financials, appointments/scheduling, and clinical documentation all in one place. It makes the providers' lives much simpler. They spend less time documenting now that we have templates, and they can be more productive and spend more time with patients. It's also allowing us to make changes as needed "on the fly" to meet our needs as a specialty direct pay practice.

  ### 18. Difficult to navigate

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mitchell K. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2023

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I loved the use of systems combined with the amazing customer support staff. Anytime I had a question they were there to help immediately

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

The cost and difficulty navigating what I needed for my practice

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AthenaOne was helping me to navigate the world of insurance

  ### 19. Billing Issues

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2022

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Athena Health lets you know which codes to use when working the task manager list; However, that is the only upside to Athena health

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

The billing area of Athena health needs serious reconstruction. There are about only 25% of the codes that we need to create cost estimates for patient surgical procedures. Without the CPT codes in the Athena Health system, there is no way to generate the cost estimate that the patient pays to the surgeon.
This causes more claims to be processed, and the facility will have to refund the patient what the patient paid to the facility and then pay us the amount.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

almost none

  ### 20. I do not recommend this system. That is my personal opinion

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2023

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The or registration aspect is great. That's where it ends for me

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Payments are NOT posted timely. they post payments sent directly to THEIR lockbox back to tge iamractice to verify the deposit. The pint of hBmvubv payments sent directly to them is for the practice to be more hands off. The " billing follow up" is horrible. The can't go off script or use critical thinking. If they do post a payment on time it's posted wrong. I can't even write it all here.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You have to create cases for everything. HOW ABOUT YOU TRAIN YOYR STAFF. 100 cases later and the same mistakes are being made

  ### 21. Horrible training

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2023

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Font size...LOL. I can't think of anything

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Everything. The training was the absolute worst-no training at all

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its only been 6 weeks, we have $90,000 of claims on "hold"-can take up to 30 minutes to get one to drop since we have no idea how to release them

  ### 22. Great EMR system

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ana S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2023

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

User friendly, easy to keep track of patient records on a daily basis, great EMR system

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Sometimes the Athena app doesn't save the information we added and then we have to retype everything again

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Athena for scheduling patients, keeping patient information, and billing

  ### 23. Poor UI for physicians

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2022

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I have found AC is only slightly better than writing everything by hand. Theres very little upside.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

It feels as though the interface was designed by someone who has never had to be a specialist and see patients. The company will not take feedback and improve its product. Youre allowed to submit ideas and people "vote" essentially. Which of course is ridiculous because the people who have time to do that are the ones least affected by the problems. The software intermently glitches the effectiveness of my dictation software. The order entry user interface is worse than writing by hand for me (I keep paper order sets in my office and just use those instead). There are trivial fixes that could address a lot of the problems but again - it does not appear tha t they are open to making the physician experience better. If I leave this practice at the end of my current contract it will be because of this institution having athena. The output is also pretty terrible and not customizable - not output sent back to referring doctors is unprofessional in appearance and nothing can be done about it. Athena forces you to not have a fax machine (everything coming in gets gobbled up into athena) which causes a lot of important information to be lost - its probably somewhere available to review but my staff still after a year has no clue how to find/collate.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None - things are worse than ever. I'm forced to use this by my employer.

  ### 24. Ease of scanning integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julie K. | Administrator - Sleep Disorders Center, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 21, 2020

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The latest updates allow seamless integration into Patient Charts

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Seems to work well for our practice. There is some slowness when multiple users are working .

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

You will not be disappointed the Billing is almost seamless

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our Medical Records are completely electronic. The ability to print forms that include a patient scan code and then be able to scan directly into the chart has been a true time saver.

  ### 25. Very Good EMR program

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I feel that it is overall pretty user-friendly. Athenahealth seem to strive to work towards streamlining their software regularly.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Some faxing abilities and search functions. It would be nice if when faxing within the program to other Athenahealth providers, that there were page breaks between encounters. It makes the ability to sort patients' charts complicated when trying to label the documents correctly. I believe there should be more proper training to maximize the different facets of the program. I feel that we do not use all of the available tools to streamline our practice due to a lack of knowledge.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

Definitely use it to its full potential. It can be a great program.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Athenahealth maintains our patient records and financials for the doctor's office. Many aspects of the program are beneficial. We just recently received an update that allows us to track authorizations much better for any ordered studies. There are many facets of the program that our practice can utilize if we explore them. The report builder is beneficial regarding getting down to very minute details that we are trying to assess.

  ### 26. Very quick to navigate!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2022

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I like that it is very easy to navigate around the Athena website. It is very straightforward when accessing a patient's chart/demographics/visits/imaging results.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

I dislike how when I copy and paste into Athena, regarding the patient's visit, it pastes in a format which I have fix, deleting extra spaces. This is difficult when the Assessment/Plan is long and has a lot of pointers since I have to fix it for every line.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to enter my transcripted visit note into each section into Athena, whether it's the HPI, ROS, PE, Assessment/Plan, Discussion Imaging, injections, and billing information. Anyone who has access to the chart can then review that information.

  ### 27. DO NOT BUY ATHENA! VERY EXPENSIVE! POOR CUST SVC!

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott W. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2021

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

There is very little to like about them. I can't think of anything I like about them.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Very poor cust service - takes weeks for them to do anything for you. It's extremely expensive and all you get are headaches. It literally takes months to train on it. I've used several other EHRs and no one comes close to their price. They assign a rep to work with you, but ours was useless. A typical response to our requests was, "please call customer service", which meant weeks before anything would get done. Sometimes she'd tell us something like, "I've talked to my team and we can't fix that for you." To get anything done is a chore. My team hates them.

Also, they require you to set up a separate bank account at US Bank. If you're used to Bank of America, like we are, US Bank is crap.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

Avoid.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is the case of the "grass is greener..." We'll, be carefull with that attitude. We have realized no benefits and have only felt frustration. No one at the office likes Athena at all. It takes forever to get anything done. They assign you a rep to work with you, but ours could never get anything done.

Ease of use
Reporting functionality

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chukwudi I. | Webmaster, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2021

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

It's modern and is a lot more efficient and straightforward than the *vast* majority of EMR systems and doesn't have a self hosting element which makes it a lot cheaper and simpler on practices logistically.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

EMRs all have problems and are all cumbersome to an extent: Athena is better but make no mistake, it's frustration-less, not frustration-free. There are enough bizarre technical quirks to satisfy anyone here.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is an EMR

  ### 30. Sometimes I really struggle with the lack of empathy

**Reviewed by:** CAROLINA DE LOS ANGELES L. | NYCx Fellow, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The dashboard with the claims has a very good usability and center all the information in one place.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Your services is intergrated with so many other services. But it is hard to understand when to contact the providor, when to contact Atena. Anf I would say it is user friendly every time I have a question for Aetna

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

Be prepare to study and search a lot of information

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed a health insurance. And Aetna provides good quality but informations is often parcial and it is hard to understand the steps. I gues I solve a health services, but not a human service

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I love the details on claim information it gives you.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

It could be that maybe we dont have the right connection between our system and Athena but I ma having to do a lot of manual configuration on reports because our system shows one thing and the Athen system shows something else.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

time management on claim/payment submission

  ### 32. A very deceiving group.

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2020

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I like the Electronic Health Record system

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

I don't like the way that they conduct business. Nothing has gone as promised by the sales and onboarding team. There is no connection with our day to day activities. No change is easy and now they are backing our of the offer to allow us to use their system to do our billing without using their inefficient and unresponsive team. It's been one disappointment after another. We regret selecting them to help us start our solo practice.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use them for our electronic medical records and billing.

  ### 33. Works like an EMR but navigation is difficult

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeramy F. | Applications Systems Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2021

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Web-based, this makes no onsite hardware requirements.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Navigatiating the chart can be cumbersome at times

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At the time it was moving away form an aging EMR to a newer web-based model.

  ### 34. Helps both patients and staff with scheduling.

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Helpful for both office and patients. Easy scheduling.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

There does not seem to be anything that I don't like. Everything works fine.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

Billing is a huge plus.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Appointment reminders and telehealth.

  ### 35. Exorbitantly Expensive. Bait and Switch. AVOID!

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dr W. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2021

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

You can run reports tailored to each practitioner.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

They overcharge for what they provide, promising you fully functional billing capability but all you get is the electronic portion. They promise someone would be "working your claims" when all they do is send one or two emails and nothing extra is collected. I have to employ two extra people where Athena promised we would need nothing more than them. Bamboozled!!

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cost! Also people who don't know anything about their "field of expertise" when you call, treating you like a number. They are reluctant to negotiate, even though they bring in nearly 6 figures a year from my practice without doing much. It's a sham, created by computer people to charge you monthly for automated services without a human component at all.

  ### 36. Overall great but used wrong

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2021

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I like that you can have tasks assigned to multiple departments.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Sometimes duplicate tasks are created on same invoice results in inflated AR.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to place more responsibilities on our coders and payment posting teams.

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2021

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The EMR is ok...much like all the others

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Poor customer service. Was grossly misled when I was sold on the product, namely AthenaOne. The. Upon leaving after 3 years, not able to transfer data from patients to new EMR. Have been trying for the last 6 weeks to get this info transferred at least to a Zip drive. They care not since I'm leaving.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None

The site makes finding information in a patient's chart easy

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

This site changes so much during updates

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a very large complete family care practice having physical charts is impossible and this solves that problem.

  ### 39. Intuitive backup of moderated patient data is handled with anthena collector.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

The athena collector software has in its possession a supply failure of purchases adjusted to the company's supply chain, followed by erroneous organization and prioritization plans of customer technical support, deficiencies of input production costs, simplifications of commercial valuation of electronic prescriptions, disproportionate centralizations of web understanding seminars of electronic accounting books, network mismatches of commercial efficiencies of sales of enabled medications, control indispositions of network servers of report traffic, prove the deficiencies found within this programming.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

It is the provision of technical billing applied by the athena collector system that is responsible for the medical care of patients with prioritized consultation specifications. ### 40. athenaClinicals the perfect platform to increase clinical control.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2020

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

athenaClinicals is a software born to help users increase clinical control, increase medical efficiency and revenue streams. Through athenaClinicals users can perform electronic health registration, medical billing, care coordination, mobile capabilities, among others. An advantage of working with athenaClinicals is that it has no learning curve, since it has a very easy to use interface, is very stable and allows to work quickly, the reports provided by this very complete system, provide accurate and useful information.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

A defect that I can say that has the interface of athenaClinicals is that it has clear colors and sometimes it becomes complex to find functions because the contrast of the interface does not help, I see necessary to make some updates to help make corrections to this deficit, when you run changes of drugs or doses for patients the page is not updated and this has brought me some confusion, it is really necessary that the developers implement solutions to this kind of problems to avoid users have frustrations with this system.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

athenaClinicals is a complete system created to increase the medical control, the service is very easy to use, it has a very robust system with very high capacities to attend the needs of its users. its price is quite attractive, the experience it offers is of complete professionalism, its support team provides fast and very satisfactory attention, athenaClinicals is a very updated platform, I can really guarantee that it is one of the best options available.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We currently use athenaClinicals as our primary clinical registration platform for our patients, performing medical billing, care management and income monitoring. Currently we have been able to improve work efficiency by 70% compared to previous years, we work more easily and can perform complete management, the service is quite cost effective and fully addresses all our usage needs.

  ### 41. Athena

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2021

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Easy to use to create reports and access patient info.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Not currently integrated with billing which causes extra steps.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

System leakage.

  ### 42. Athena - pretty good.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Whitney Y. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2020

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I like that it can be used hospital wide, as well as in the practices. I did like all of the training videos although they were a bit time consuming.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

training videos were not very exciting, they were kind of boring but educational.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

Athena is a good system once you learn the ins and outs of it. It requires a lot of training. My company had us go through several months of training before we went live and there were still things that people had trouble with. you just have to have patientce with this system.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Practice management including patient info, insurance verification, check in, check out, vitals, etc. it is a one stop shop for all things medical.

  ### 43. An easily understood EMR software that continues to improve w/ excellent tech support.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sascha M. | Social Media Communications Manager , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2019

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

As with switching to any new software our office experienced a period of adjusting to this new method of EMR. But with a little assistance from some educational videos provided our staff became more familiar and now 6 months later after changing from our previous software we consider this to have been a successful transition. Whenever any problems have occurred we greatly appreciated the ability to call the helpline or use the message boards where we would have the opportunity to go through it with an actual person. No one ever wants to have to discuss IT problems, but the staff members of Athena's help line always seemed genuine and made the situation as tolerable as possible. Thankfully we have not frequently had to do this, but have considered the times it has been needed to be a pleasant experience. When it comes to the actual office use of Athena, it has greatly streamlined the process of patient check in and therefor improving our door to doc time. Our providers find it easy to see a complete view of a patients history and previous imaging therefor having a complete picture prior to seeing patients all within minutes. We have been grateful for the billing aspect of Athena, it may not cover every aspect of billing but has streamlined the process. Overall we consider it a very successful transition at our neurology office with a staff of 16.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

It has been a costly change, but so far at 6 months of use appears to be a worthy cost but will continue to monitor the staffs opinion towards Athena. We have moments where the software appears to running slow with a lag time. It has frequent updates, which I'm sure are for the better, but at times can make it challenging while we are still adjusting to this new software.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

Read in depth between different softwares, understand the cost of AthenaClinicals as well as the separate extra fees. Mild adjustment period, but this will come with most changes. Take the time to watch videos to become familiar with the software.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The primary way that we have seen an office improvement with Athena is with the use of patient check in and check out.

  ### 44. Great software, horrible support

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2019

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The software works for managing a clinic and PHI but you need an in-house expert to navigate the nonsense that is the back-end UI. Communicator is decent, but no images are allowed to be used. Every positive comes with a negative it seems.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

The way user roles and rules are handled is often nonsense. There are proprietary languages used to code documents and other elements that can be frustrating.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

Do your own research and confirm in writing what sales promises you.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workflow has certainly been optimized and data entry is easier. Offsite data storage, HIPAA compliance, and IT is comforting as we are not directly controlling the servers with PHI.

  ### 45. Extremely Easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Barbara D. | Scheduling coordinator , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2019

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Its very easy to navigate around the program , I use it to check previous billing and Previous appointments and we are able to receive incoming referral from other Doctor offices much faster . With Athena we are able to be reached by patients through their portal which gives them a faster response time.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

There is very little i dislike about this program , like i said its very easy to navigate and teach yourself how to use the program , it does however come with videos for self help .

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

patient contact is much faster, we are able to get referrals from doctors office for patients a lot quicker and efficiently . Its very easy to understand the billing area even if you do not work in that department.

  ### 46. May not be perfect but it's a superior system

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2019

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The process in which Athena creates an order and tracks its status until the order is considered complete is fabulous. This helps the practice ensure patients comply and follow through with testing, doctor's appointments, etc.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Appointment reminders do not have an efficient way of giving instructions for the appointments. Patients always complain that they didn't remember to arrive early because they only paid attention to the final text reminder with the time of the appointment and no mention of a check-in time. The patient portal does not have an easy website address to reference.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

Make sure you reduce your patient schedule by at least 50% during o-line. There are many questions that arise specific to your practice that you can't answer until you start actually using the system during go-live. It is critical that you have the time to learn the system so patient volume must be drastically reduced during the first few days.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Patients are getting plenty of reminder calls when they are due for routine appointments, follow-ups, or when they no-show. They are also getting calls and emails for balances due. This has created efficiency for our front office.

  ### 47. Good for small operations

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 03, 2019

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

The most helpful part of AthenaCollector is that you have a team within Athena that does a lot of the leg work for your denials. They sort through them first and only transfer the ones they need your help with.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

I dislike that they have moved a lot of their customer service overseas resulting in wrong or misleading information or long waits to figure issues out.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

I would recommend this product especially for its collecting features. If you have a large staff, I'm not sure how easy it is since we are a smaller office but it works well. Their reporting features are all at your fingertips and you can run collection reports with ease.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are collecting more money with AthenaCollector because the process of appealing and submitting claims is all done electronically making it faster and easier.

  ### 48. Could be better

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brianna U. | Office Coordinator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2019

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

Since they updated, you can search by name and it brings multiple options where you can go to their main patient screen or you can go to their chart, add a document, etc. That aspect has become more user friendly.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Scheduling is a pain. You cannot select multiple days to schedule at one time.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Finding a fax by typing in the patient ID is helpful

  ### 49. Great reports

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Billy M. | Healthcare Management Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2019

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

I like that athenahealth is continually advancing beyond new changes in the medicinal network with the goal that we are effectively progressed into, state, ICD 10. I like that athenahealth is actually professional dynamic in helping the restorative practices to streamline their office to meet these progressions head-on without dread of being forgotten hanging to dry on, state, getting paid on schedule. I like that athenahealth furnishes you with a tremendous care group of CSC people who will accept your calls or read your inquiries/request and discover the responses for you. That is to say, truly, I as a rule don't have room schedule-wise to proceed to search for the appropriate responses myself in the library and preparing recordings (in spite of the fact that for the individuals who do have room schedule-wise, these are extraordinary devices) so I am so, happy that I have an incredible help group behind me. I like that athenahealth enables us to share restorative data for our patients, after their assent, to other medicinal practices as well as clinics effectively in light of the fact that the patient's therapeutic consideration is the most crucial angle in this administration network. I like that athenahealth is actually quite aware of the scarce difference between helping the training thrive and not venturing on toes or violating their job.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

Of late, when utilizing the message board for posing inquiries that aren't excessively earnest, I find that the reaction takes in excess of half a month. It used to be that the turnaround time was seven days and no more. At the point when the reaction is so late, I overlook what my inquiries were and I need to return to re-examine so I can resolve the issue. I've perused a ton of different posts about bringing in and being put on hold for quite a while. When we initially began with athenahealth, I didn't have that inconvenience and I was calling upwards of 10x every day once a day for some time. Recently, I infrequently call yet fortunately, I haven't been put on hold for over 5 minutes. Despite everything I do like being able to consider when my inquiry is critical and I can get the assistance I need immediately.

**Recommendations to others considering athenaOne:**

Negotiate the price. What may sound reasonable probably is too much. Be sure your billers are well oriented to the process.

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

3 years back, amid the quality revealing for repayment, Athena made it so basic and simple that I was stunned to discover that it took a kindred companion 2 months to finish her announcing where it took me 30 minutes. furnishing patients with nitty gritty data on their protection benefits and the life of case makes better correspondence and attachment for the center/quiet relationship. as a supplier, the simple customization for layouts, utilization of formats and the capacity to effectively pursue therapeutic requests (referrals, lab orders, pharm contents) and their request made outcomes got "roundabout fulfillment" making snappy reaction amendments simpler too. having on the web specialist data, ascertaining by kind of doctor, practice, separate from your area and simple looks is a brilliant element for recorders and doctors alike. I have utilized a number of EMR frameworks, electronic and on the web, and this is by a wide margin the best I have ever utilized.

  ### 50. Athena health is an excellent EMR database for clinical providers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan C. | Nurse Practitioner, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2019

**What do you like best about athenaOne?**

excellent EMR database for clinical providers Excels in notetaking and clinical management including orders, point of care service with the provider and patient, radiology labs, bloodwork, immunization schedules and documentation.

**What do you dislike about athenaOne?**

There isn’t much to dislike. I wish you could access labs easier via point of care service

**What problems is athenaOne solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faster documentation and order entry and management
