What do you like best about Algolia?

1. Managing user search data easily and optimizing it to provide accurate results.

2. Recommend users with the exact similar products they are searching for.

3. User search analytics that gives in depth information about the products viewed and clicked for a specific time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Algolia?

Nothing as such but the implementation docs and examples need to be updated and should be easily understandable. Also pricing should be lower for first year of use Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Algolia?

It is a search tool and we haven't experienced any downtime, though hard to say if it's that much better than its competitors. We were attracted by its Startup Program, but that hasn't delivered for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Algolia?

Algolia markets its startup program as $10,000 in Free Search & Discovery Usage, which is super attractive for pre-revenue startups and puts it ahead of its competitors. HOWEVER, what they don't tell you up front is that as soon as you're accepted into the startup program, even if it's months before you launch, the clock starts on that offer, so in practice, you really won't get $10K in value. What the startup program looked like in practice for us--we set up algolia summer 2024 as we were building our product. We launched Jan 2025, 6 months into Algolia's startup program. We've only used ~$300 in credits, yet we will lose the rest of the supposed $10K in credits next month because they only give you 1 year to use the $10K, regardless of when you actually go live. As a small, pre-revenue startup, we're now locked in to paying Algolia's expensive rates until we have the engineering bandwidth to switch, which we definitely will be switching, but I wish we had known up front because we would not have gone with Algolia and invested the time to set it up in the first place. We tried contacting Algolia to explain our situation, and they said they couldn't do anything, so I'm writing this review so more startups can be aware and not make the same mistake we did! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback — we’re truly sorry to hear that your experience with our Free Startup Program didn’t meet your expectations.We understand how critical every dollar is for an early-stage company, and we never want a startup to feel misled. That’s why the terms of the program — including the 12-month usage window for the $10,000 in credits starting from the approval date — are clearly stated on the program landing page. Applicants must acknowledge and accept these terms when applying, to ensure full transparency and help startups plan how to make the most of the credits.

Once the credits expire, you’re under no obligation to continue using Algolia unless it fits your needs. We offer both pay-as-you-go and flexible annual plans to support businesses at all stages. Startup Program participants are also eligible for a 20% discount on committed plans — a benefit designed to ease the transition after the free credit period, and this is also mentioned on the landing page. We’re sorry if that wasn’t clear at the outset.

While we’re unable to extend the credit period retroactively, your feedback is valuable and will help us improve how we communicate the program’s details going forward.
