It is a search tool and we haven't experienced any downtime, though hard to say if it's that much better than its competitors. We were attracted by its Startup Program, but that hasn't delivered for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Algolia? Algolia markets its startup program as $10,000 in Free Search & Discovery Usage, which is super attractive for pre-revenue startups and puts it ahead of its competitors. HOWEVER, what they don't tell you up front is that as soon as you're accepted into the startup program, even if it's months before you launch, the clock starts on that offer, so in practice, you really won't get $10K in value. What the startup program looked like in practice for us--we set up algolia summer 2024 as we were building our product. We launched Jan 2025, 6 months into Algolia's startup program. We've only used ~$300 in credits, yet we will lose the rest of the supposed $10K in credits next month because they only give you 1 year to use the $10K, regardless of when you actually go live. As a small, pre-revenue startup, we're now locked in to paying Algolia's expensive rates until we have the engineering bandwidth to switch, which we definitely will be switching, but I wish we had known up front because we would not have gone with Algolia and invested the time to set it up in the first place. We tried contacting Algolia to explain our situation, and they said they couldn't do anything, so I'm writing this review so more startups can be aware and not make the same mistake we did! There is no customer support, so when things go wrong you wait days for a response. Also their billing platform is buggy af, and has no notifications. So your service can be cutoff without warning, even when it's their fault for lack of adequate error detection systems. It would be fine if there was a support team to swiftly respond and resolve issues, but there isn't, so lack of infrastructure and lack of support is a double whammy. Despite the much bigger price, customer service is essentially non-existent. When you have a problem with billing and you get cut off, you are entirely on your own. While the AI/Machine Learning element might seem interesting ours just ended up with a completely unintuitive search where you would type in something expecting a certain result but instead see prioritised, something that was completely irrelevant. The downfall of the AI system is they make it easy to integrate, and you think "great, I'll be leveraging AI", but the reality is a bad experience for your users. Algolia search is easy to implement and manage provided that you don't try to do something complex and do not need to involve customer service. Inexistent customer support. I got a good amount of seemingly automated informative and follow-up emails on signup which should imply there is great care and interest in their customers. My experience however proved that, once I needed help and engaged the customer service, I got completely ignored. My reminders and requests for follow-up and feedback got ignored as well. Algolia was the only search plugin I could easily integrate into Docusaurus with a good amount of features out of the box. What do you dislike about Algolia? Been screwing around with trying to implement this for several months. Supposed to be a less complicated and non-developer friendly alternative to elastic search. It's far from it. Our search is now riddled with bugs and our collection pages have clusters of similar products on them with no rhyme or reason. Waste of time.
