For example, scripts can be implemented and applied directly, which provides a high level of flexibility. In particular, the designer tool supported by the IDE allows individuals with basic IT knowledge to learn and use it with ease for maintenance and management tasks. Additionally, the system demonstrates a very high level of stability. Our company continues to operate in an on-premises environment and interfaces with other systems such as SAP and WMS. There have been no critical errors when integrating with legacy systems, and most LIMS-related issues can be resolved by the IT team through error log analysis without requiring support tickets. Therefore, its compatibility and integration with legacy systems are highly effective. Finally, another advantage is the strong level of security and control. Since the system is managed in-house, sensitive data can be handled more securely, and administrators have full control over configurations, access, and updates. This makes it easier to enforce internal policies and quickly respond to any potential issues. **What do you dislike about STARLIMS?** From a total cost of ownership (TCO) perspective rather than a technical standpoint, the licensing and annual maintenance fees (AMP) are relatively expensive. Our company uses SAP, where options such as PMC (7-year) user licenses can be selected depending on the company’s situation. However, in the case of LIMS, there are only FCL and DCL options available, and the cost of upgrading from DCL to FCL was about three times higher compared to SAP. Additionally, I believe the AMP should be adjusted based on the actual level of effort required, as it tends to increase every year. **What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** LIMS is a compliant system recognized by the Australian TGA, which provides significant benefits in terms of audits. One of the key considerations was its ability to interface with legacy systems, and so far, it has been communicating with them without any issues. As mentioned earlier, the system is easy to maintain, requiring minimal IT resources. Additionally, since there are relatively few issues that need to be handled by the quality department, day-to-day operational processes run smoothly. In a manufacturing environment, departments and processes are highly interconnected, so a problem in one process can disrupt multiple schedules. However, there have been no major issues in the quality control area (laboratory testing) where LIMS is used. From our company’s perspective, this is the greatest strength of using LIMS. ### 2. It is well-focused on laboratory management and quality assurance. The main advantages are: - Its high level of data integrity (Electronic signature 21CFR Part 11), efficient and easily exportable audit trail, relevant blockages, and logical flows in the processes of material and product release. - Ease in managing samples, analyses, methods, and associated specifications. - Management of software access allowing a combination of multiple profiles and laboratories. - The possibility of authorizing certain people for multiple analyses. - The possibility of interfacing with many other systems. - The different available modules (stability management, equipment, reagents, Environmental Management, Electronic Laboratory Notebook, OOT detection, etc.). - Fully customizable reports via Crystal Report. **What do you dislike about STARLIMS?** Starlims should be further developed to meet the needs of the pharmaceutical industries. It lacks certain basic features regarding the configuration of results, analyses, or certificates: - Support for results preceded by the signs +/- or <> - Support for standard analyses from Pharmacopoeias (such as Dissolution or Content Uniformity for which one must configure the calculation formulas and specification schemes themselves) - Support for issues of fluctuating decimals in the case of analyses of ICH Q3 (A and B) guidelines - Absence of necessary fields for the Pharmaceutical industry for certificates in certain tables (Manufacturer code, manufacturer address) **What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Starlims listens to the improvements requested by their clients and integrates them, when possible, into future versions. Multiple OOTB applications provide many functions to carry out simple to complex lab workflows without the need to customize. Ease of access which can be controlled via configurations and application settings. It is also easy to integrate and communicate with other applications via APIs. **What do you dislike about STARLIMS?** SDMS and ELN components of STARLIMS are not very user friendly and comes with certain limitations. SDMS is susceptible to very minute changes in the files for instrument integration and parsing. It is a bit tedious to troubleshoot issues in ELN/SDMS. Performance is slow for the Results Entry module. It takes significant time to perform manual results entry. **What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** STARLIMS has automated many of the complex lab workflows and reduced the need to work with multiple small applications such as Excel and different databases.
