Entity Framework Core

26 reviews

Entity Framework Core is a lightweight, extensible, open-source, and cross-platform version of Microsoft's popular Entity Framework data access technology. It serves as an object-relational mapper , enabling .NET developers to interact with databases using .NET objects, thereby eliminating much of the boilerplate code typically required for data access. EF Core supports multiple database engines, making it a versatile choice for various applications. Key Features and Functionality: - Cross-Platform Support: EF Core runs on .NET Core, allowing applications to operate seamlessly across different operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and macOS. - Modular and Lightweight: Designed with a modular architecture, EF Core provides only the necessary components for object-relational mapping, with the flexibility to extend functionality as needed. - LINQ Integration: Developers can utilize Language Integrated Query to perform database operations, enabling expressive and type-safe queries directly within C# code. - Change Tracking: EF Core automatically tracks changes made to entities, simplifying the process of updating the database with modified data. - Migrations: The framework supports code-based migrations, facilitating the evolution of the database schema alongside the application's data model. - Lazy Loading: EF Core provides lazy loading capabilities, allowing related data to be loaded from the database only when explicitly requested, which can improve application performance by fetching only the necessary data. - Support for Multiple Database Providers: EF Core is compatible with various database engines, including SQL Server, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and more, offering flexibility in database selection. Primary Value and Problem Solved: EF Core streamlines data access in .NET applications by abstracting the complexities of database interactions. It allows developers to work with databases using object-oriented principles, reducing the need for extensive data-access code. This abstraction enhances developer productivity, ensures type safety through LINQ queries, and provides a consistent approach to data access across different platforms and database systems. By managing tasks such as change tracking and migrations, EF Core enables developers to focus more on business logic rather than the intricacies of database operations.

Personal review of Microsoft 365

Although 365 is a form of SaaS (which I very much dislike) it is my opinion that Microsoft always thrives to provide as much value to the service as possible. For me personally this boils down to 1Tb of (reliable) online storage courtesy of OneDrive (which I even use for offsite personal system backups), as well as the somewhat recently added Copilot 365, which also turned out to be quite useful during my Azure evaluations and studies. In addition I'm also very pleased with the expanded functionality of the different Office programs.

Azure pleasantly surprised me as systems administrator

The Azure infrastructure is easily accessible for both professionals as well as hobbyists who like to expand their expertise (where I'd like to mention the $200 free credit use, but _also_ the failsafe of not charging credit cards without permission). The portal is easy to navigate and once again: if you're familiar with the consumer 365 environment then the experience will be very similar courtesy of a default UI setup: access to the different apps in the upper left corner, access to different options from there as well and the "admin options" in the lower left corner. I'm also very pleased with the fact that I could ask Copilot 365 about specific Azure features.

"PowerPoint Made Performance Presentations Easy and Professional"

I have used PowerPoint as a supervisor and RTM to create performance presentations, training decks and KPI reports for my team and management. Few things I liked most: - Ready made templates saved a lot of time when I had to put together a performance or training presentation quickly - Charts and graphs helped me present agent wise and team wise KPI data in a visual way that was easy for everyone to understand - I used animations and transitions during training sessions to make the content more engaging and easy to follow - Pulling data and charts directly from Excel saved me from manually copying anything, everything linked automatically - Exporting to PDF made sharing presentations with management very quick without any formatting issues - Multiple team members could work on the same presentation at the same time which saved a lot of coordination effort
