## Unity Reviews
  ### 1. The Self Contained Game Development Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eldy S. | GMC Developer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Unity?**

It's a great tool if you wish to start learning about game development. The GUI interface and the intuitive design helps you a great deal once you get used to and know the what is where and what for, even if you don't know how to code,it's not the end of the world. You can still work around that and get started with the development.

You can buy different assets to help you out during you development life cycle and don't have to make things from scratch, inventory management, combat systems, character models items management sounds to name a few.

Its a great tool if you are alone just a few people working on it. And the best part you can really creat something beautiful and amazing.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Well The Learning Curve can be a bit too much for someone who is not really used to IDE's and interfaces like these, I myself am still learning and let me tell you sometimes things don't seem to make sense, but with time and good tutorial it can be done.

The other thing is for 3d games well you need a high end machine.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Great tool to start, if you are interested in gaming and game development. And The Basic version is FREE!

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For now i'm just trying to learn game development so i can one day make my own game, i found unity to be a great starting point since its easy to use, once you get used to it, and unit can be used for multiple platforms.

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2020

**What do you like best about Unity?**

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

bit complex and timely to learn libraries/programming structure.

  ### 3. Steep Learning Curve but Powerful for Indi Devs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Unity is a no-nonsense software that makes it easy to get the base function of a game done. If you are trying to develop a simple game, then Unity has all the tools and resources necessary. Additionally, Unity is known for its developer community so anything that the developer doesn't know how to or have time to do can be supplemented by the asset store. Whether that be code scripts, models, art, music, assets, or environments, it's on the asset store. Because of this, making a simple side scroller or a 3d adventure game could not be easier.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

When it comes to the finer tune elements of a game - elements which are pretty universal, there is a distinct difficulty in implementation. For example, some friends and I were trying to make AI characters which could path to the player around walls and obstacles. Unfortunately, this is best done with multi-threading, a thing that Unity just doesn't give the developer proper access to (the unity multi-task tools aren't true multithreading and take up too much cpu power). Additionally, environment-dependent camera controls and dynamic movement, which are surprisingly hard to code, don't have any base templates in Unity and have to be coded from scratch. Because of this, more sophisticated controls and movement require exponentially more coding knowledge. Though I'm sure there are options on the Unity Asset Store from experienced devs, just for a lot of money.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Make use of the Unity Asset Store

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making video games. Does all of the base function, code architecture, and compiling for you.

  ### 4. Unity for App Building

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** PPN S. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Ease of use, pre-made packages ( more every update too) ability to code once and deploy to multiple platforms. Great support and community to get help from, if needed.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Still lacking some polish and smoothness in the GUI. A bit of a learning curve like many other software of this type. Updates aren't compatible with previous saves and may cause issues.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are publishing our mobile apps to the various app stores while using one build environment with minimal hassle.

  ### 5. Unity is the best indie game development engine one can ask for

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Unity?**

I like the tools unity gives - apart from awesome lighting and particles etc tools like probuilder and the new 2d rigging system are super useful when it comes to small studios. Unity also enables you to create your own tools leveraging any unity feature so you can create pipelines that are super optimized producing top notch results.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Bugs that usually occur and also when we have to update to the newest version multiple bugs appear and it takes quite some time to fix. In some projects sometimes get stuck to one version due to that issue.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

There is a tutorial for everything - stop trying to re-invent the wheel

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Well if it wasn't for Unity we probably wouldn't have been able to release a game within less than a year (+port it to several platforms including Nintendo switch)

  ### 8. Unity Review

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zijing L. | Teaching Assistant of Operating System Course, Internet, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Their engine is free and easy to install, and so anyone can have a fully featured game development engine installed on their Windows PC or Mac (Linux support is also on the way) with a minimum of fuss. Just Google “unity3d download”. During the install process you can choose specific build platforms. Many are unchecked by default so be sure to read the list and take what you want. Android and WebGL are probably ones worth ticking.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Both game engines are extremely affordable, Unity gives you access to the free version of Unity, which is still a powerful engine. However, if you're a teacher Unreal Engine 4 may just come out on top in terms of pricing.

**What do you like best about Unity?**

There are many good things that unity has, the interface can be adapted to any working mode, the tools are quite simple to use, it allows you to develop animations without the need to know any programming language, you can import and export your own 3D models , create your own textures, materials, allows you to create a complete environment from 0, besides this allows you to play with the camera the lighting is simply wonderful, it is a really powerful game engine, it allows you to add sound to each object separately, create an interface , add your scripts and manipulate them without touching the code, and best of all, the basic version allows you to develop everything for free.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Not everything is perfect, although the 2D camera is quite easy and comfortable to manage the environment, in 3D mode moving in the grid can be quite annoying and complex, I think it is something that still needs to improve.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

It does not matter if you are new to the development of games or animations, if you do not know much, unity is a software that helps you to create them in a simple way, the learning curve is not very long, there are many courses and tutorials, besides that the unity itself has a very extensive manual I recommend reading it, out of this the free version is for anyone and allows you to develop your free game license. So if you are looking for a software where you can make your first animation or game easily, unity is for you. But also if you are an advanced content creator it will be even more useful, because of the infinite number of features it offers.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With unity I can create animations, and manage all my 3D creations easily, put them in an environment create videos, games, without the need to get into the code, there are many libraries and scripts available that can be used in unity which saves you a lot of time , besides that when building a project, I can do it for several platforms since unity is in charge of coding and adapting the project automatically.

The best thing about Unity is that it is a software that can be implemented by both beginners and video game development professionals, Unity is very versatile and easy to use, it offers great editor tools, efficient and optimized AI, camera scripts, animations, among others and we should not worry about making our game adapt to the platforms since it is available for Android, iOS, PC (including Mac and Linux), Xbox, PS, PS Vita, Wii U, and many more , all this makes Unity a very complete software compared to others.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Unity has somewhat expensive lyncences but the prices are worth it since they offer graphic improvements and high performance.

The versatility that the Unity game engine provides is second to none. It is simple enough to learn 2D or 3D environments on and scalable enough to provide advanced development. The Unity engine has a lot of developers in the forums that can give you insight into almost any situation and provide help. The staff at Unity has also stepped up their contact and seem to always be trying to find a way that they can help you.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

The only thing that really comes to mind when I try to think of a dislike is, the vastness of what is available and the different levels of expertise makes finding information on a specific subject quite intimidating.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Unity is the standard for game engines and 3D development.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Augmented Reality applications, Virtual Reality applications, 3D and 2D gaming.

The best thing about Unity is that it offers a very friendly environment for all professionals, whether programmers, designers or artists. It also offers excellent tools for the development of 3D games on any platform such as Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux, it can also be used together with Cheetah3D, Adobe Photoshop among others and everything at really accessible prices is the reason why Unity is a tool Valid for beginners and for users who do not have many resources, as well as for large companies.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

From my point of view this is a great software so I have nothing to say against it is really very complete.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Unity can be used by any user, be it beginner or professional or for small or large companies, since it fits your pocket practically.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 41. Unity is the best general-use game engine

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicholas B. | "Assistant Research Engineer", "Graduate Research Assistant", "Student Developer", Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Unity?**

I like that Unity allows the user to write scripts in C#, but most of all that there are so many resources and such a great community around it. The documentation is exceptional and the Unity forums and stack overflow website have answers to almost any question on Unity development. This tool can also be used for simulation as well as for game development, expanding it's use cases to across a variety of fields.

Unity is also very good for 2D video game development. I often use Unity when developing 2D games on my laptop as Unity provides a robust 2D game development framework that performs efficiently on laptop devices. The documentation is also easy to get to, with relevant links inline with components in the editor.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

I dislike the package management differences between versions of unity, but with the release of Unity Hub, and its fast update schedule, this problem is being minimized for future versions.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Definitely go on the Unity website and do some of the tutorials. It has great resources for those getting started. Even if you're not a programmer and just want to get started with game development, Unity tutorials allow people with a wide range of skill sets to get started and make something. Beyond their website, there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube and other websites that would be really useful for a beginning user of the software.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I developed a non-commercial driver training game in Unity for research and development purposes.

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Unity is a great and free product for game development. Very easy to learn. There is support for all platforms. There are many blanks.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Do not like a long processing time. It is also the fact that very often people use this product to create junk games.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

If you need a free product to create games, then Unity will help you with this.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps develop game prototypes and create models...

  ### 44. works well for indie games, less so for AAA

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Unity?**

I like how easy it is to build prototypes using C#. This seems much quicker than UE4s blueprints. I like the direct access to shader code.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Editing materials was a lot more difficult than unreal engine when I last used it.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Consider the expertise of your team first, and make sure that whatever game engine you end up using does what you need it to do.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Unity allows for quick prototyping, which is what I tend to use it for.

  ### 45. A Great Game Engine Program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathan M. | Multimedia and Audio Visual Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Unity?**

It's fairly easy to look up tutorials and plug and play code to make your project work, and the majority of presets really help out in those situations.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

It can still be hard for a beginner to clear out bugs, but the error message can be looked up and used to troubleshoot.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Great for easy app and game programming. A little difficult when it comes to extreme programming but that's based on the person. If you know code or have the ability to look it up, this program is great

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Worked on an App for our company to show news and stocks.

  ### 46. Best tool for game development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ferran G. | Desarrollador de videojuegos, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Unity?**

It is an easy, versatile tool. Anyone with basic knowledge in programming can learn to use it in barely 1 month. The learning curve is appropiate and the possibilities are infinite.
The comunity is insanely wide: you will always find someone in the official forums, or internet blogs, where you will be able to find any answer you need.
The retrocompatibility with its own version also helps.
Very practical for group working using git.
Wide roaster of integrated tools that eases the works, for example: terrain generation, particle emiters, etc.
Very good for companies that are beggining to work in the videogames. Better than other engines, which provide less comunity and less tools.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

The actualizations can be quite tedious due to the limited download speed from their servers.
Monovdevelop, the IDE provided for programming the scripts is quite bad.
You need Unity pro for a dark theme. That is no problem for a company, but for indie studios can be.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

Learn the bases first before trying to do anything.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a great tool for people that starts with videogames, and also good for experienced people and small/medium companies.

  ### 47. The biggest and the greatest

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marti S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Lots of tutorials around for beginners, what makes it easier to start.
Unity Free allows you to publish games for Android and IOS wihout any limit.
You can develop games and projects for lots of different platforms.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

The graphics are not as good as other engines like UDK, which is way better.
Limited functionalities comparing to UDK and CryEngine.

**Recommendations to others considering Unity:**

I think you have to start with Unity to see if you are able to develop or not. You have to test your own skills and Unity offers lots of facilities and tutorials around it.
Unity community is massive, so it may be easier to start with it than with othher engines.
You can work for free, but Unity Plus and Unity Pro are expensive.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basically I found it easy to start, and it allows you to have a good idea of how games are developed.
For small projects is perfect.

  ### 48. Interesting fast software for creative games

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Unity?**

Best application compared to others , effective for 3D rendering , easy to use and learn , reasonable price and visual platform is considered wonderful and that makes it love it

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

Movie texture is dealing with some issues as well as there is no current update for OpenGL Fir 4.0X. And the worst thing is it outdated documentation which I hate it most

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The game development feature lets you build design and update the games in short time and effectively.since it is cheap compared to other apps , it’s movie texture has some issues which is considered important in development of games

  ### 49. Powerful video game engine for both professional and educational use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ramón T. | Instructor y responsable de comunicación, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 25, 2018

**What do you like best about Unity?**

For my use, educational, it is a great tool that allows teenagers to learn the basics of programming with a real work environment in a field that is very motivating for them, such as video games. Having free educational use makes it accessible to anyone who wants to learn. On the other hand, by using languages like C#, it is a good introduction to "real world" programming, unlike most that are used for educational purposes. It also has an immense community of developers where you can solve practically any doubt.

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

That requires 64 bits. In many educational centers, with old equipment, they have remained on 32-bit versions.

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Teaching programming in Secondary and High School from a playful approach that is attractive, unlike the curricular teachings that are usually imparted. It also allows for encouraging vocations among teenagers, as it is a real tool that has been used to develop video games they are familiar with.

  ### 50. love me some unity

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Program Development | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Unity?**

i like how customization the interface is and how easy it is to get prototypes rolled out

**What do you dislike about Unity?**

its not the easiest to use if you are an artist compared to unreal. only because unity is setup to "build your own"

**What problems is Unity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we are engineer heavy so it works great for us no issues for unity specifically
